not really… there haven’t been any recent major terrorist attacks in the US, but there have been many in other countries (Bali?). terrorists seem just as likely to attack as they did right before 9/11.
No, its like the war on drugs. I don’t think it is winnable without nuclear weapons, lots of them! I say that in jest because I don’t believe that is the answer. The fact is there will always be people who want to hurt others. How do you know where they are or who they are? A person willing to die for their cause is not going to be easy to stop.
Tim
I’m not sure. I think we have improved our awareness on terror, but I don’t know that we will ever “win”. Does that make sense?
Casey at bat is right
I don’t know. Are you mad at me for what I said about your profile picture? I’m really sorry Dan. Sometimes I don’t think before I speak.
Nope! This war isnt about terror any way its about oil. Just ask any Liberal like myself.
I think I asked this before: how do you win a war on terror?
As long as there are differing opinions and those willing to do anything to prove their opinion is the right one, there will always be terror.
I don’t think a war on ideas is ever a good idea. It’s unwinnable. The war on drugs, the “war” on homelessness – these didn’t work, either.
i dont know
i dont think so, we just keep killing people for no reason
“war on terror”….that is just a slogan. war can’t be waged against an emotion. with or without political agendas, there will probably always be “terrorists”, and people will be terrified!
my point is that declaring war against terror is kind of a vague statement. “ok, people….we’re going to be doing a bunch of STUFF in the middle east for awhile. but don’t worry. it’s a war against TERROR. terror, bad.”
No. We’re just making the other countries that used to feel ambivilance towards us want to shove our own conceited egos down our throats.
No. I think somehow, thigns are getting worse :-.
dont think so..
I know what you mean Dan. I say on the whole we are winning it. Of course to see in interpreted in the media and by the forked tongue democrats is a whole other story. If quit/retreat/give up in Iraq we’ll began to lose it. For it will show our lack of a backbone. The terrorist will interpret this as victory and wage on. This is not Vietnam. The radical islamist have a vision.
The “war on terror” is an unfortunate name. It should have been framed as a war on terrorist. But, I don’t have to have things spelled out for me. I know thats what it means. Kinda like the war on pirates in the Barbary Coast in the 1800′s.
no- i don’t think its a war that can be won
if by winning you mean perpetuating… but that’s easy to say isn’t it. i know something had to be done, but i don’t think they declared war for the best reasons, and i really don’t htink they’re goin about it the right way, AT FUCKING ALL. vetoing a bill against torture? killing civilians? congressional meetings that resemble nothing more than elaborate prayer meetings?!?!
you know, i’m not american? but i live next door, and we have an election coming up. and i want to stay as far away from your country as i can, and that includes voting liberal. your gov’t scares the fuck outta me, and i aint the only canadian to say so. go ahead and start flingin shit my way people, i’m mean enough to take it.
Nope…Just dragging it on for the oil…
No, our president is turning us into terrorists, and what does Iraq have to do with the war on terror, it was supposed to be because there were wmds but we still haven’t found those have we? It should be called the war for control of the oil.
what a great question. unfortunately, one that i can’t answer. I consider my self a pacifist, because I am Christian. And…The Bible tells us to “seek peace, and pursue it.” But…at the same time- I don’t have an answer as to how our country should protect itself. It’s such a hard issue. Thanks for posing it to the xanga community. molly
no
and the concept of a war on terror is laughable.
The “war on terror” was just Bush’s reaction to the public’s need for action after the attacks. It was his last effort to salvage at least a bit of public support, and sadly enough people were gullible enough to give it to him.
No, I don’t think so. I like the person who said it’s like the war on drugs. It’s unwinnable. But I think it’s commendable to our president for trying. And I”m tired of saying this… we did indeed find WMD’s.
that popublog banner/icon on the left side of your site is annoying me. please get rid of it since the image doesnt work, and popublog shutted down
No. Nobody is winning that war. Neither us nor the terrorists.
RYC: I’d appreciate your announcement of my baby when the time comes. Maybe I’ll make Featured Content!! hah – like that’s totally my main concern…. I’ll let you know as soon as is reasonably possible. The baby dropped about three weeks ago and I’ve had some pelvic pain, so I think things are going to happen a bit sooner than the last sonogram’s prediction of Christmas Eve.
The US government would say yes because we haven’t incurred another major terrorist attack. The leaders of the terrorists could also feel they have because their existence and the ability to disrupt the lives of the countries they’ve targeted have been substantiated. In certain regards I’d see it like the “War on drugs” that began in the 60′s but I hate that because it almost rationalizes and belittles what it is we’re doing … I supose the key word to your question is “we” and which side I see myself on. I’d have to say no.
a war against terror is like blowing out a growing flame… the battle itself intensifies the combustion… until we are all consumed.
Yes, because ppl are so fed up with the whole deal, and so fed up with war, that they are ready to exclude it from their vibration
No, I feel very strongly that we are not.
well first, what IS the war on terror. I don’t think Bush has fully explained what that is. Assuming its the big hoooplah in Iraq, no.
Ha ha ha ha ha…. Good question!
I cant beleive what i see here. This isnt a war on terror someone decided to make the worst name possible. however it IS a war for freedom. If anyone thinks this is bushes fault they are sadly mislead. But bush is responsible for his compassion. what kind of sick person would sit around here in our obece media fed country and watch thousands of innocent men women and children being put through a meat grinder. Bush is acting biblically becuase he is a christian, he is helping other poeple.
I would also like to remind everyone that the so cold “War for oil” is a pathetic idea that the liberals made up so they could blame bush for something else. Backing out now would mean defeat and losing. the terrorists would win. and henceforth know that we have no will to finish everything. and they will keep harassing us and the entire world. none of you poeple can see into the future so you wouldnt know what would happen.
On a lighter note. i hope everyone has a merry christmas
ADDD MEEEEEEE
NO. There’ve been terror attacks in other countries such as in London and China. So far we haven’t won anything.
As long as there are bad people in the world that are willing to fly themselves into buildings and leaders that kill their own people through torture and massacre, then, yes, terrorism will continue.
I’m not Pro-Bush by any means. But my husband is a Marine and I support our military 100%. These men and women are doing their best to assure that our country retains its liberties and freedoms. And through them, I think we’re winning through doing what we had to do.
Either way Bush was f*cked. Should he sit back and say “Sorry American people. These terrorists killed our people on 9/11 – but that’s just not a good enough reason to hunt the sorry son of a bitches down, even though we do have reason to suspect that Saddam Husein had a hand in it and a lot of other shit”?? Or he could’ve done what he did, attack the core of the problem, attack the person possibly funding these terrorists.
I don’t watch the news, and I don’t claim to know all about the war, and I don’t even really want to know. And there will be people telling me since I don’t plant myself in front of CNN that I have no right to an opinion. The main reason I don’t watch is because it’s hard for me to see our troops over there. I’ll be the first to stand and cry for them to come home – I’ll be the first to say war is against God’s will – I’ll be the first to say that it’s breaking my heart to see Marines I’m acquainted with come home to their families wounded or in body bags.
But I’ll also be the first to say no one can have any idea how hard it is to make a decision on whether or not to wage war – and that was placed in Bush’s lap. And American people – you elected him to that position, so don’t complain that he was there.
Don’t trust the media, because they are merely entertainment anymore.
Pray for this war to put a dent in terrorism and scare future terrorist attacks away.
God bless our troops and God bless America.
PS sorry so long.
I think we are. As the sister of a soldier currently serving in Iraq, I get to hear stories that the media doesn’t like to share. I have heard about how many schools, hospitals and homes have been built. I hear the stories of how these people who have lived in terror for so many years finally feel free to move around their own towns. I know that we have lost many soldiers and civilians during this war, but I can tell you that a lot of good is coming out of it too. I won’t say that everything is perfect, because I’m smarter than that, but I do think that we are winning. Because to me, winning means leaving those we are helping with a safer enviroment, and I can already assure you that we are doing just that.
*On a side note, thank you all for not bashing our soldiers. Please feel free to disagree with the war or the President, but please keep our soldiers in your thoughts and/or prayers. Thanks*
the war on terror would have been a lot easier to analyse had the U.S. not invaded a sovereign nation based on lies..who’s to know?..imagine if ALL the resources had been funnelled into JUST finding Bin Laden and his gang..don’t you think that with BILLIONS in reward money, someone woulda coughed up that Saudi stringbean??!!..to answer the question..losing the war, because of a wrong turn that is very difficult to get out of..Scott
That’s a hard question to answer. I’m convinced there will be terrorists as long as there are humans. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have gone to war. We had to.
After 9/11, there was only one thing Bush could have done. It was exactly the same thing all the democrats supported back then. And I am convinced there were WMD’s in Iraq, too. I think they were shipped out to Syria, and that is why they weren’t found. Our Intelligence was sound. It was matched by the Intelligence in countries the world over.
I think there will always be terror, but the fact that we have not had another terrorist attack on the US since 9/11 is more than just a coincidence. It means that the War on Terror is as successful as it could possibly be.
I believe there will be future attacks on the US, in part because we will have policy changes and also because you can’t possibly catch everything ahead of time, but the number can be minimized, and I believe that is what is happening thanks to the War on Terror.
nah.
Wars never end until the world ends.
We aren’t winning at all. In fact, we are just making human sacrifices (soldiers) to a monster (terrorism) that cannot be eliminated.
Hmm, I don’t know. I hope so.
wow dan…highly debatable issue here…i don’t think there is a winner and loser persay bc there will always be terrorists and peole fighting terrorists…but i do think standing up for yourselves is the best thing to do..if we had done nothing then we become an easy target without reprecussions.
Rachel
wow! posting on a saturday night! two hours later and im in the top 100! thats a rarity! ; )
nope, you americans arent.
Hard to say right now. Since 9/11, there’s been no attacks over here.
larry
Yes. Good question, man!!
Ha. No.
As long as we are on this earth, there will be terror. Fear is a part of life, regardless of the current president or political climate. The question is, are we going to live in it… or in spite of it?
the war is by definition different, our objective is to find terrorists, and by that definition we are winning, we caught sadam and have osama in recluse. although we are not carrying the war out in an appropriate manor, american leadership is doing a really good job of making us look like a bunch of imprialistic asses. michael
No. The “war” is just making everyone paranoid and taking away our freedom. Just because we get screened for scissors and guns at the airport just deters terrorists from violence involving airplanes. They can still bomb the hell out of whatever they want to.
Can you ever win a War on Terror? There will always be something that falls under that catagory, the world isn’t perfect. Not even close.
I would say possibly we are, but how are we to know for sure?
ive said it time after time…how the heck do you win a war on terrorism?? terrorism is a concept. you cant declare war on a concept. the Bible clearly states that peace will never be present until the return of Jesus Christ. so to be honest with you, it seems a bit pointless, does it not?
yes
No. Terror, by default, is out of control.
You can’t win a war against an ideology. Trying to suppress an ideology only causes those supporting the idea to believe even more that they are correct.
Yes, we’ve taken out the Taliban, the majority of Al-Qaeda has been destroyed. Two-thirds of their leadership has been captured or killed. We’ve ended the reign of an evil dictator who had prisons with rape rooms, acid baths and plastic shredders (and they weren’t used to shred plastic.) to name a few. His sons, who were eagerly following in his footsteps, are dead. We’ve had two successful elections and one more coming up soon. And there is much more that has happenned.
It’s just a shame the mainstream media is so biased and that the people who are getting the most attention are huge liars like John Kerry, Ted *hiccup* Kennedy and Michael Moore.
its not something to “win”… its something to succeed in… and yes, we are… ask our troops, not some liberals…
Has there been a terrorist attack on U.S. soil since september 11 2001?
Hmmm…no, does that answer the question?
Ha ha ha ha ha!!!
Oh. Were you serious?
HELL no. What we have done is devolve ourselves into terrorists. Our so-called War on Terror and all the Xtian bullshit spewed about has made it far more LIKELY that terrorism will continue and grow more and more extreme.
Creed, I (almost unwillingly) like you–but your saying it don’t make it so. At this point, it doesn’t matter whether we stay in Iraq and kill every last mother’s child or whether we leave today. The war on terror is lost. And so is the Honor of the United States of America.
What we need NOW is a war on the souless bullshit of the current administration. And we need people from BOTH sides of the aisle to stand up and fight the battle against fucking idiots who approve of lying and torture as a means to getting what they want.
I am so amazed at how quickly people seem to forget WHY we are at war against terror. Doesn’t surprise me though, since we live in a society that has to fix everything NOW… you know… that fast food society that gets everything instantly at a drive thru… I guess we should drive thru Iraq and instantly solve their problems… *sigh* Patience is a virtue, folks…
Does anyone win in this kind of thing?
HA!
RYC: I am at the same weight I was when I was 16. It wasn’t pretty then and it’s not pretty now.
No. We can’t beat terror with war…their, like, best buds. We can only stop terror by ending it, here, with us. I think there are times when war is appropriate, such as to defeat a power of evil that can’t be controlled another way…say Hitler, maybe Saddam ??, but we need to be suspect in our use of war. We can use it to build a nation, we can’t use it to fight an ideology. The best policy is bless the world and reap what you have sown.
The problem with the term “War on Terror”: What’s in a name? It’s not like we actually plan to wipe the emotion from the earth. No one in their right mind would think that. We all know that this term means that we’re going to try to beat down on these guys starting problems in the world.
Reasons for war in Iraq: (1) No matter how many times you say “there haven’t been any WMD’s found in Iraq” doesn’t change the fact that there was very good evidence that there might have been at the time. All the intelligence sources said so at the time. Hindsight is 20/20, but unfortunately foresight isn’t as good. (2) We were technically still at war. There was a ceasefire signed after the war in the early 90′s. It stated that if Iraq didn’t follow certain U.N. sanctions we’d do exactly what we did. Saddam stopped following 11 of these sanctions so we went in. (3) Then of course there were all the mass killings. Granted a few hundred (not sure about this number at all) innocent people in graves don’t give you merit to start a war, but it’s nice to know it’s not gonna happen anymore. One might say “what about all the civilians that died as a result of the U.S. invading?” Personally, if I were faced with a choice between life where my future family (since I don’t have one yet) were to live in constant fear of execution with their father or without fear and without me, I’d choose the second.
Reasons to stay in the war: (1) As stated above a few times so we can show that we have a backbone. If we simply back out without setting up a functional government we condemn ourselves to more attacks from the “victorious” (in their minds) terrorist groups. (2) If we back out now, we make sure that the life of every soldier that’s died up until now means nothing. (3) The war isn’t nearly as bad as the media portrays it. The media wants money and turmoil brings in better ratings than victory. Ask any of the troops over there. They’ll give you a straight forward answer based on experience rather than the desire for money.
The U.S. “War for Oil”: For all you France fans out there, that’s exactly the reason they didn’t want war. Attacking Iraq for them would be like investing in the stock market for years and years only to voluntarily rip up all documents that would give you a return on your money.
I dunno.
To a certain extent we have, but to another extent we never will. Terrorism is an idea and ideas are impossible to totally eliminate.
Just wanted to compliment you on a really cool site and very thought-provoking writing. It’s really refreshing when, after reading all my friends’ “blah blah blah” xangas, I finally get to read a xanga that is intellectually stimulating. Keep it up.
Nope. Absolutely not.
Yes.
Wow, most people on here have a pretty poor outlook. I read the comments and it seems we should just give up and wait to be killed because there “will always be terror.” And I must add that we would be killed with the non existant WMDs that everyone lied about. I’d rather go to bed at night knowing that someone out there cares and is fighting to keep evil people like our enemies from harming us.
And do you people really think that the rest of the world is going to sit there and watch us take all the oil for ourselves? Give me a break. Oil is not the reason we started this war. But, it is true that the US has a great interest in keeping the oil safe, as does the rest of the world. Since all the industrialized nations depend on it greatly.
Lets just suppose we were to take over the entire country, we may even make it the 51st state, and we shipped every last drop of oil from there to our refineries. The price of everything made using this oil then drops by a great percentage. We would have to build numerous new refineries in order to efficiently change the crude into the many forms it gets made into, creating thousands of new jobs, greatly boosing our economy. Now the “only there for the oil” scenerio doesn’t seem so bad does it? Except that we would piss off every other nation that inhabits this planet and they would eventually try to destroy us.
I would have to say no…..with the amount of people, all over the world, dying, how can anyone be winning? ’til the next
nope:(((((
So to answer the question, we are winning against this current foe, but the world lives always in a status quo. Just as over excitement leads to fatigue, power leads to it’s own defeat. Sooner or later our great society is going to fall from one force or another. It’s not gonna be terrorism though. It’ll probably happen by some country out producing us economically rather than a fall by the sword. My bet’s on Japan for a while then China if they ever adopt adopt a free market economy.
No. Evil will prevail until the Lord returns.
I hate to think of the consequences of losing. I don’t think most people realize what is really at stake here. It’s going to take years. Are we winning, right now? Yes. Have we won? No. We have however, rid the world of a torturous dictator and started the long process of changing the ideology of a people that were taught to hate Americans. That is not to say that all Middle Eastern people do hate Americans, but it was being taught to elementary school age children, not anymore. It could take not only years, but another generation.
As for the comment above mine – Resolution 1443 states that it was up to Saddam Hussein to prove that he did not have WMD, not for the US to prove that he did. According to Hans Blix UN Weapons Inspector, Iraq did have WMD unaccounted for, so that was already established.. Funny how everyone things “Bush lied”. The real question is where are they now?
we’ll never win the “war on terror” b/c terror is everywhere not jus in Iraq.
stalemate
It’s impossible to win a war on terror, even taking into account that by “terror” we mean “terrorists.” Terrorism is an idea, not a nation. You can’t simply invade a country and then call yourself safer. Wherever you go, there are terrorists, and they do not call attention to themselves. Even if it were possible, it would take an insane amount of time and resources to ever stomp out the people who think this way, and in the process we would very likely become all too similar to the people we profess to hate now, and would make ourselves a lot of enemies.
The President should have realized a long time ago what a waste of time and resources this would become. Oh wait, what really mattered was him staying in office. Talk about good leadership.
So is that what we’re fighting over then?
Dan, I saw something funny tonight. I was looking at a womans site that you had left a comment on. Someone else left her a comment about your visit. Here is part of what she said: “I can’t believe you get a personal visit from the TheologiansCafe guy Dan. Wow, you know he has to pick and chose who to comment.”
Wow Dan. You are like the president of Xanga or something. Or maybe the Xanga god. I’m impressed. I thought you were just some guy!
Oh, by the way, you haven’t graced me with your presence in three days. THREE DAYS DAN!
I’m hurt. Really, really hurt!
Hello i found this xanga from kevinisheavin and i just wanted to post here cuz it looks popular. Well this is it:
I AM GAY! so if u r a gay and is looking for some dick sucking action come over here and i will suck it for free so come over and enjoy and look at my site (iknow u will like it) and leave me a message and let me know if u want 2 hook up!! :^D
yeah. i think we are all making so many mistakes that we’ve gave up on taking just one mulligan and it’s turning into sort of an experiment war. a tester. like we are making all our mistakes now so that the president to deal with it next knows what to and what not to do….
its hard to say but ill try without getting all political like how everyone else does its about the war not politics we can discuss those later. weve won afghanistan thats for sure and guerrilla warfare is how you fight when your short on manpower and weapons so if you can lose one man for every twenty that they lose then theyll win. however. where taking most terrorists prisoner before they can strike and im not trying to insult or dishonor the two thousand men that have died but thats a really good war for us casualty wise. but heres the problem. we cant stop now if we do then we open ourselves up for a massive terrorist counter attack right now the war is on their soil so there more concerned with expelling us from there then attacking us on our own soil. so we can really only go forward
We are winning the war on terror
To win we need to cause Terror to the world right?
Oh that War on Terror. No we are not. Bring our boys and girls home soon please.
it’s a work in progress…
Yes we are winning.
and as for all you ” where the hell are the WMDs” people look up the facts when theres a chance one of those could go off we cant meess around. you all just hate the bush administration if a nuke went off in new york it would be there fault so they take preventitive measures to make sure it doesnt happen and there critizied. im not saying there perfect but this war is necessary
It’s impossible to win the war on terror because there’s so many terrorists around the world in so many different areas!!!!! they are all so hard to find!!!!!
Yes, I think we are. Things are getting better and they can’t just quit the war now because it would just ruin everything we have done. So the people that say “Let’s just pull out” are wrong because you can’t just stop once you’ve started.
Just my opinion.
Hey are you getting to post another time tonight?
No..but then war and havoc will continue to reign until this world passes away…we are, as a human race, incapable of perpetuating world peace.
The war on terror is a clever phrase used to create state of fear, opression, and a slow move toward a theocracy. There is no ‘war on terror’ in a true sense, it’s a war on freedoms, and basic human rights.
Reply to my ‘blog’
Nope. Hard to win when there’s no measure of a successful outcome. Will we have won if there are no terrorist attacks for 5 years, 10 years? Will victory mean nobody is thinking of commiting an act of terrorism? The “War on Terror” was both a necessary post-9/11 symbolic jesture and empty rhetoric. We needed to do something, but we just didn’t know what. “How about a war? That solves everything.”
“Okay. On whom, though?”
“The terrorists who attacked us, silly!”
“But they’ve already died.”
“Oh. Shit. Bad luck there, eh? So, pick someone else.”
unsure. i think we should pull out, in any case. i hate war. i don’t want to sound like some sort of peace-obsessed hippie, but i do. seeing injuries and death makes me feel sick. it’s not meant to happen, it really isn’t.
::elf
It’s like crime in America. It’ll never be stopped entirely. We have to accept that and try to keep it under control.
im gonna go with pretty much everyone else and say
NO
this war isnt on terror its on oil
To all those who answered definitively yes or no, what did you use for a measure of whether we are winning the war on terror?
no
No, I still feel terror all the time. Sometimes I still feel terror when some idiot attempts to run me off the road in thier SUV just because I drive a 4 cylinder Honda Civic.
If you mean the war on TERRORISM, no we aren’t winning that either.
Erika
Were losing the war on terror
No, but the war on the middle class seems to be going quite well.
no, we’re only giving them reason to do more terror
That’s like asking if we’re winning the war on drugs, or the war on poverty.
We declared a war on terror in Iraq. We don’t seem to be too concerned about terror in any other part of the world.
Oh, and once again… where is Osama? If we were really were waging a war on terrorism, wouldn’t our first objective be to capture and destroy the person responsible for the terrorist attack on us? But apparently this doesn’t make sense to anyone else….
There was no declaration of war by the US Congress. There should have been, but there wasn’t. And winning or losing doesn’t much matter until its won or lost. If it were lost we’d know it. There’s always hope.
not even close. if anything, we’re modelling –like we always have– that, in order to get what you want, you do it through violence. violence begets violence. it’s as simple as that.
Of course not.
we can never win
No not the WAR on Terror but prolly many battles … I am sure it could be a lot worse for us on our home land … we are too spoiled as Americans to really notice.
Not at this point in time.
We will neverrr win the war on terrorism…this war is about a million other things besides what its supposed to be…what a shocker…
Oh god, who knows?
i think we are improving that country over there and letting them move to a more peaceful environment, after we leave. i think the war is for a good cause. i support bush!
No
If by winning you mean furthering, then yes.
No, definitely not.
“War on Terror,” a nice political slogan. Some very intelligent adviser made it for the survival of not so intelligent incumbant of white house. Does there exist such a war, i dont think so. People ask, then what’s happening in Iraq. Well ask your self, wouldn’t you defend your country against a declared foreign aggressors, be it our current best friend, the Britains (we did that once, remember).People ask, then what about Osama, Zawahiri and other big fishes. Exactly, thats how our government wants us to think like, outside the box (thats outside US), keep our self and our troops (and their families) busy outside for the duration of incumbants Presidency and wallaa, a successful double term President, lol. There are millions of Binladen like outcast, abnormal, psycho people all over the globe. Do we go and catch them and kill them, why not sit with them and treat their sickness. There are hundreds of thousands of crazy Terry Mcweighs (Oklahoma bomber) in US alone, who are more dangerous than Binladen or Zawaheri. Why the heck do we need to catch them from outside then? Reason is simple, keep our minds busy in outside problems for next eight successful years of presidency. We are not winning any war, forget war on terrorism. Wars are won when you are defending, not when you are the agressor. We are however very successful making millions more hate our marines, hate our ways, hate our next generations, hate our policies, hate our flag, hate our troops, hate our civilians, hate us. Thank you.
lol, did i just write that long comment, sorry guys.
wow, almost all of these comments say “no”
i agree
Terror cannot be beaten, only suppressed. You cannot wage war against something you can only be in conflict against. Isn’t it stupid that this country doesn’t declare war against countries anymore?… and that it declares war against things that have no location or face…
We’re definitely foiling some plots, so that seems like “winning”, but you never know. I don’t know.
“The only way to stop someone from doing something is to convince them they don’t want to do it”- Orson Scott Card. When someone is determined to give their life to a cause, its almost impossible to stop them from doing it. You can’t win a war until the other side gives up; decides its not worth it. When your ready to die for something, you’ve decided to give everything up for it. And then nobody’s going to convince you not to do it.
I lived in the Middle East last year and saw first-hand that our “war on terror” is just a terror campaign of its own.
No
What war on terror? It’s all propaganda. Refer to the latest post on my xanga. I address this issue.
we’re kicking ass and taking names, hell yeah we’re winning. to you those protest the wars, go to hell
are we even fighting it??
I am reminded how I felt when people were protesting having no women members at Augusta National Golf Club. Meanwhile there are women being held in virtual slavery to their husbands or being sold into actual slavery all across the world. The point is, being for “peace” misses the point. Peace is not in fact a warless state but a state of justice. There is no peace anywhere since injustice rules the day and instead of being concerned for people who are forced to live under tyranny there is a concern for an ideal. Peace does not exist on the earth. Actual peace is something worth working for, but protesting war is akin to protesting the blue sky.
Are we winning the War on Christmas! Oops, wrong thread…
Winning Bush’s preemtive war against Iraq? The 700 Club tells me so…
no…there is no win…
one word: NO. not even close
nope
not sure..prob not
yes..well we’ve improved at least. but terrorism is a sin, and i don’t think it will be won until the of the world. then christ wins.
Well, they haven’t bombed anything here in the USA since we took the battle to them!
((( GRANDMA HUGS )))
Lori
Yes
No we aren’t were killing people for no good reason and we will always have others countries planning to attack us and we’ll never be completely safe!!!!! The war won’t end till 2010 or maybe later!! I want the soliders to come back NOW!!!!! But bush can’t see that it’s over, over, over!!! The war is over!!!!!
KATIE
Hell no. Just making it all worse. Like bombing some poor country because of a few people is going to win the US friends.
It sort of depends on your definition.
If you have decided that the “terror” the war is waged upon, is any and all terror acts, a war on it would be both costly and futile. A war on large terror networks, such as Al-Qaeda, Taliban, and the regime of Saddam Hussein, are, and have been successful.
Although a noble cause, the war on terror was fiercly misguided.
To those who would argue that the war is about oil, I would present the following.
1. Afganistan had little to no oil interest. Why did we start there? 2. At the declaration of the war on terror, gas was not in such a shortage. I could understand if we were starting on Iraq now, but, honestly….
It is unfortunate that we are stuck in Iraq. The stark reality is that we are stuck there until the government is able to retain the insurgency itself, or by some miracle, pacify it. If we pulled out right now, the state would deteriorate into an anarchy that would be more dangerous then the dictator that preceded it.
And remember that there is no draft. All the soldiers signed up voluntarily.
LOL…War on Terror as in War on Crime…or War on Evil? This isn’t a war on terror..its a war for a resource..oil. You can’t rid the world of Terror just like you can’t of Crime, Evil, or Sin. The simple fact that they used War on Terror for the name automatically proves that the US will not win…not because we are not willing…but because we are too stupid and foolish to see that Christ is the only one who can defeat Sin..the cause of all the other things I just listed.
how can you win a war on terror, when war is terror
Havaashna said: 1. Afganistan had little to no oil interest. Why did we start there? 2. At the declaration of the war on terror, gas was not in such a shortage. I could understand if we were starting on Iraq now, but, honestly….
1. There is a huge pipeline being built through Afghanistan as we speak. US soliders are guarding it. 2. Why would there have to be an gas shortage to go to war with Iraq? It doens’t mean Haliburton and Brown and Root havn’t profited from it along with the Carlisle group and all the weapons manufacturers. The oil isn’t the US’s…its the corporation’s now. The US military works for them now as Cheney is running things.
You can win a war on terror if a computer can beat itself at tick-tack-toe…wait, that is for nuclear war. We are aggrivating terrorism-prone people.
The Theologian’s Cafe. .. cool name.
// ParadisEMann //
I don’t believe so — I don’t believe that we’re really fighting a ‘war on terror.’ We’re fighting a war for oil.
trailertrashprincess needs to know that in the months before the war, there were satellite photos taken of numerous convoys of trucks out of Iraq and into Syria. so, this is NOT a war for oil, this started as a war against an evil dictator, and has turned into a war to get Iraq stable.
This war will never be won. But we CAN win some battles, and attempt to protect ourselves.
i decided to comment on ur first post… just b/c no1 will realize… the war on terrorism will never cease. never… as long as there are ppl willing to die for their beliefs… there will always be extremists

first!
no
Nope.
We’re falling deeper into the war, infact.
Wow, third. =D
no, we’re not.
not really… there haven’t been any recent major terrorist attacks in the US, but there have been many in other countries (Bali?). terrorists seem just as likely to attack as they did right before 9/11.
No
http://i.euniverse.com/funpages/cms_content/6489/a-maze-ing_new_cursor3.swf
No, it’ll never end as long as people are people.
Kinda like the war on pirates in the Barbary Coast in the 1800′s.
no- i don’t think its a war that can be won
if by winning you mean perpetuating…
but that’s easy to say isn’t it.
i know something had to be done, but i don’t think they declared war for the best reasons, and i really don’t htink they’re goin about it the right way, AT FUCKING ALL.
vetoing a bill against torture?
killing civilians?
congressional meetings that resemble nothing more than elaborate prayer meetings?!?!
you know, i’m not american? but i live next door, and we have an election coming up. and i want to stay as far away from your country as i can, and that includes voting liberal. your gov’t scares the fuck outta me, and i aint the only canadian to say so.
go ahead and start flingin shit my way people, i’m mean enough to take it.
And…The Bible tells us to “seek peace, and pursue it.”
But…at the same time- I don’t have an answer as to how our country should protect itself.
Things are getting better and they can’t just quit the war
now because it would just ruin everything we have done. So the people that
say “Let’s just pull out” are wrong because you can’t just stop once you’ve started.
::elf

The Theologian’s Cafe. .. cool name.

But we CAN win some battles, and attempt to protect ourselves.
i decided to comment on ur first post… just b/c no1 will realize… the war on terrorism will never cease. never… as long as there are ppl willing to die for their beliefs… there will always be extremists
nope just wasting time
