Stealing Part 2
Just a quick note. There is a xanga party over at mafrenzy’s site. Everyone is invited.
Here we go:
I was with my dad in a grocery store when I was a kid. A few young people who looked like teenagers were stealing stuff and sticking it in their pockets. My dad informed the manager that the people were stealing a few small items.
If you were in this same situation, what would you do?
# 1 Report it to the manager.
# 2 Ignore the young people and mind your own business.
# 3 Tell the young people to stop stealing or you will report them.
# 4 Help them plan the getaway.
Comments (126)
first
hell yeah
#3
ooOOOOoo
And I was the third post too! : )
plan #1
no you’re second
and third time as first!
Now, I would do three, but I saw a poor woman stealling snowglobes once, but I didn’t say anything.
I used to have a store… and if the were teenagers (as opposed to younger) I’d probably tell the manager. If they were younger, I’d prefer telling a parent.
i would report their asses.. crime doesn’t pay.
damn you and your owning of featured content! stop posting to many times per day! lol
I wish I could answer with #1, but most likely I’d pull a #2. I actually have been in that situation. I was with a group of people, some I knew and some I didn’t, and one of the guys that I didn’t know pocketed some stuff at a convenience store we were at. I still feel bad about not doing anything.
Thanks for the message. You were gone when I got back.
I would tell the manager.
And why do you have a get together when you are in another state that is not bordering mine? lol
Well, I was something like #8, but SOMEONE deleted my comments because of a change in plans. Okay, so I’d probably tell the manager if they were punk kids. If they were little kids I would bemoan the fact loudly that no one is raising their kids properly today and that parents are just letting small children run free. G hates it when I do that. I think he thinks I’m going to get beat up one of these days. Not likely. I can take other mamas on….. Hey look, I made this answer about me. Hmm…..
RYC: Now I’m curious about your peeing story.
….Number one, I suppose.
XO
I would probably go with #3.
Question: Do you read all of your comments?
Report it like your Dad did. BUt I might talk to the kids first…
numero uno
numero tres
gosh #4 sounds so much more fun…
but if thats the case, then i probably should be the one stealing; at least that way i’ll get some stuff…
but i think i might just stop and stare to see if they pull it off… so subconciously i might be staring as my way to draw attention to them for them to be caught… go me! i’m subconciously reporting them…
Report them.
nOWADAYS YOU’RE LUCKY IF YOU DON’T GET CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE AND GET KILLED. BY TELLING THEM YOURSELF sO YES, TELL THE MANAGER, THOSE KIDS HAVE TO LEARN BETTER SOONER THAN LATER AND WE DON’T WANT TO GET STUCK PAYING THEIR BILL WITH HIGHER PRICES LATER ON
1 or 3
# 1 if I’m feeling mean
# 2 if I’m feeling selfish
# 3 if I’m feeling judgemental
# 4 if I’m …I mean, never.
i think i whould mind my own bunsiness
i don’t really know why thouh
Thomas~~~
#1 most likely
#3…
i’d rat em out to the manager. i had a man confront someone who was stealing in our bookstore, and he almost got stabbed. it’s not worth the confrontation, man.
SOMEONE KINDLY EXPLAIN THE CYBER PARTY INCASE THERE IS MORE THAT I HAVENT FIGURED OUT FORMYSELF ITS A CUTE IDEA BTW LOL
if it were a grocery store, though? i wouldn’t say shit. you never know why people need to steal food.
Dan you have a few request for the pee story … ha ha
It depends on how obnoxious these youths are. If they’re dumb punks acting like they need to be taught a lesson, I’d report them. Otherwise I would generally mind my own business. Really, though, there is no excuse to be seen stealing in a store. It is much too easy for that.
I’m telling. Stealing is bad.
Number 1 if the manager was accessible.
the first.
#1 or #3
1 1 1 1 1 1
If the guys were cute, I’d help them get away with it ! Ha…j/k.
Hmm..I’d probably do what your dad did.
it would depend on if i was certain i saw what i was seeing. i’ve been known to see things wrong. if i saw they were doing something wrong and there seemed not to be a threat to me then i would confront them myself. if there seemed to be some kind of danger to me then i might or might not tell the manager. depending on the varity of degree of threat. i might just ignore the entire situation then.
probably #1….I try to avoid confrontation with people
I’d own them o/
(none of abovE)
thirty years ago # 4 now #1. Wow, I’m old. Going to the party now.
number one
anyways..how come ure always on the featured content?? ure almost always there! are you like, popular where u live or something?
#1, definately.
Usually glaring at them works.
Hey, somebody up there^^^^^^^has on my tiara!
tell on ‘em
narc narc narc
Do you know what happens when you bail at aslumber party?????
TP
1 and 3
The first choice! The worst thing about stealing is that it increases the prices for the rest of us!
(good for your Dad! I’m glad he set such a good example for you!)
#! cause that’s wrong and I’m a total do-gooder. I might tell a cashier, not the manager.
#1, obviously.
Morals are kind of cool I guess.
#1… probably.
ignore them. snitches are bitches.
#2 normally
unless I knew the manager/store owner and then I would do #1
or if I knew the shoplifters pretty well then it would be #3
I would like to say #4 to be funny, but I know I would do #1 unless I felt like yelling at little kids then I would do #3
Number 2….I know its wrong but I don’t think I could be the nark as they say.
Amanda
Report them….I have no tolerance for stealing…it hurts all consumers and that makes me angry.
likely I’d call them punks and tell them to put the stuff back … would have to decide from there whether or not to get the management involved. if they smarted off, I might; if they looked remorseful, I’d send them on their way.
#2. I’m very shy and not at all a “people person”
I should hope that I’d report it to the manager, but I tend to be shy, so I might just ignore them.
everyone is missing the party
Help them getaway to the police station for questioning.
I would do either #3-to give them a chance to reconsider the consicuences and take back what they did, or #1- so they don’t have a chance to just take everything and run.
#1
#1 all the way!
2! Jesus Christ I take the occasional thing, it’s totally not a big deal, and I would be pissed if someone ratted me out. If you tell on the wrong kid, they’ll pop a shot in your head, and you don’t want that kind of shit.
#2… it’s none of my business. You need to watch your store more closely if you want teenage thieves to stay out.
- Jacob
# 1 if I’m feeling important
# 2 if I’m feeling casual
# 3 if I’m feeling foul
# 4 if I’m feeling really insecure
I’d give them a chance to do what is right, so #3. Then I would repor them if they didn’t stop stealing.
#4, no doubt.
I work in a grocery store and we have been doing better on stopping shoplifting, and what do we spend the extra money on? New plasma tvs to show ads to the customers.
The savings are not sent down the customer or the underpaid worker, its just used to make more money for the bosses pocket.
Shoplift all you can.
I’d mind my own business because if they find out I reported it to the manager, they’ll hunt me down and shoot me. I can’t tell them to go away because I don’t exactly look intimidating. They’ll probably tell me to bugger off or something.
i know it’s prolly not right, but number 2
#3, because I can scare teenage kids. I’m not sure why. Usually I’ll make things up. At work the other day, some teenagers were throwing candy mints around, and one landed right at my feet, and they all just stared at me. So I picked it up, walked over and said, ‘If this would’ve hit me, I would have been PISSED off.’ They just said sorry and went away. Haha.
1 and probably 4 oh i mean 3 well goodbye
the one and only
jacob walker
ps tomorow is my 15th brithday
#1
definitely 2.
i have a problem with shoplifting myself. i know and understand the rush. judge me if you will, but everything in stores nowadays in terribly overpriced, and i usually buy something from that store when i take a few things. you know, to even it out. i think that’s relatively just.
and no i don’t think people should shoplift. if too many people start to, it could become a really bad problem.
but i’ll stick with it. ;]
eternity_awaits_us makes a good point though.
if i was good friends with the manager, i probably would say something
#2
1
#2 it’s none of my business.
#1
Of course I’ll do the right thing. Help them plan the getaway.
Probably #2, unless someone pissed me off… then #1
I know I should report them, but I was in this situation last month and did nothing. I don’t know why. I’m just not aggressive (wrong word, perhaps) enough to do anything about it.
I think it really depends on the situation. If its a fairly young child, I would go to the parents. If its teenagers, I would tell the manager. But think about this…What if the person who was stealing was homeless and hadn’t eaten a meal in days? I would turn the other way, or help them plan the getaway.
report them… I used to be a floor walker for a dept store…I can sense shoplifters when they walk in the door…and yes, I love to rat them out.
I’d tell them this was their first chance. Their second chance only came if they put back the stuff and got out of there… If not, I’d sing like a canary.
# 2 Ignore the young people and mind your own business.its none of my business…
I almost want to say #3, but kids today pack heat, so I’ll say #1 [very quietly]…
I would report to the manager.
Report them to the manager; I would be too afraid to tell them to stop myself. Thanks for the comment, by the way!
I would report them to the manager and, if they needed it, assist the security guards in capturing the theifs. If a someone catches a thug violating his property rights, I see nothing wrong with the owner meeting the theif with deadly force.
If the store is some big mega-corp like Wal-Mart, probably #2. But if it’s a mom and pop store, #1. I stick up for the little guy.
Number one … and quickly!
The older young people get the more bad habits form out of little things.
God bless,
Shohna
First, I’d help plan the gettaway. Second, I’d tell them that if they actually did it, I’d report it.
Then I’d report it to the manager if they actually did it (cause i’m cool like dat). And lastly, I’d ignore the whole thing and go about my own business.
(If they cited me as an accomplice…I’d tell them that I told them not to do it and that I’d report them…after all…I wasn’t lying to them. Of course I’d have it on tape for protection).
REPORT IT!
((( GRANDMA HUGS )))
Lori
#1 – Report them.
#2 isn’t an option because if I don’t report what I see, I’m saying through my inaction that it’s ok.
#3 doesn’t really work in my book because you don’t know how they would react to it (ie…violently) and they should know better by this age.
#4 not an option.
In my candy store, when and if I see someone stealing, I walk over to them with a small shopping basket and tell them that its a more convenient way for holding their purchases (‘than your pockets’ is implied). I give them the chance to be honest and repent.
I’ll go for minding my own business, unless I know the person who works at the store personally.
Unfortunately, in these times, everything is judged by time, and therefore like me, many would go with option 2.
tell the manager…
#1, is the way to go.
#1, I’m an uptight goody two shoes oldest child kind of thing!
#1
Nothing irks me like a theif. Being a theif includes stealing and cheating to me. I hate it I hate it!!!
Hmm it depends if they were just doing it because they were hungry then I would most likely ignore it. If they were just doing it for the hell of it I would most likely report them.
Today – #1. Earlier in my life – #4.
It is not my place to counsel them. I could offer to buy the items that they had stolen if they were not too expensive, but I really have no responsibility to do that either.
My responsibility would extend to reporting the event to the owner/manager and letting him take whatever action he deemed appropriate.
L,r
Report them. I don’t condone stealing at all!
I have actually seen people stealing before when I worked at a grocery store. I reported it, but I don’t think the police ever found the items the people took because they got there too late.
Tell them to stop or i’ll report them.
This gives them a second chance
numero dos =( sorry lol <3
If they are kids I would go with #1, but if it was an adult I would go with # 2. You never know what the adult is capable of doing. True story, a clerk at CVS was killed because a guy wanted to steal toothpaste. The clerk went after him and the guy stabbed him 30 times and left him for dead on the street.
iM CONFUSED
# 3 definately
Let Karma take its toll.
i wud do #1 but in reality i wud pull a #2
1
Yay for decent featured content! 1 or 3, people stealing pisses me off like no other.
#2 or #2, depending on my mood.
whats up home
1
im last to post
#3 Because being caught by someone, although not the manager, can scare the heck out of them HOPEFULLY scaring them straight, but if I got them again I would just go straight to the manager.
YBIC
Larry
i’d kick ther asses. i’m a hypocrite though, cuz i would steal too.
2
Number two.
