Angels
A lady one time told me a story about standing over a grave. She said she was standing over the grave alone. She told of how a little old man stood and put his hand on her shoulder and she felt a peace. She said he got in his car and drove away. She said she followed him and he turned. She looked down the street when she went past it and the car was gone. She said there was no place for it to go. She was convinced that the individual was an angel.
Do you think it is more likely that this woman saw an angel or that she was overcome with grief?

Definitely an angel

angel
Angel.
Life is full of angels and experiences. Her grief probably allowed her to experience this, because she was vulnerable.
Too often we don’t allow ourselves to experience this because we don’t trust.
I dont’ think it was necessairly an angel but possibly a spirit of some sort
I need to add to my prior post. I believe in God, which means that I believe in angels and demons. I think we live in a time of spiritual warfare. I think this also means that the presence of angels and demonic beings are very valid and real. I also believe in guardian angels and the sense that sometimes God chooses for them to reveal themselves to you if necessary.
Could be… He sends us help all the time…
The benefit of the doubt goes to the lady’s side of the story.
It could’ve ust been a random stranger.
It was an angel to her. Even if it wasn’t “actually” an angel, it helped her in a time she needed it.
Angel.
I believe it totally!!!!
I think there is a huge chance it was an angel.
God works in mysterious ways..
I have no way of knowing. If it makes her feel better to believe it was an angel, then let’s go with that.
I really don’t know. I am always a little skeptical when there is no one else to back up a story.
No telling. It could have been either. I don’t believe in “angels” but I believe in spirits or ghosts. Angels make me think of bright shiny celestial beings with wings and such.
grief
peace max
grief
peace max
That’s really tricky. I’m gonna say she was overcome by grief.
Angel.
if it was an angel to her, it’s an angel to me.
I don’t think one can conclusively say either way. In my mind they’re equally likely.
I totally think it was an angel!!
Candy
It’s entirely possible that it was an angel. It may have just been some stranger, but even if it was, God would have been using him to give her peace.
My money would go on grief, but you never know.
I went to a funeral once and as the widow was approaching the closed casket (motorcycle accident) of her husband, I swear I saw her husband walking with her holding her arm and kissed her then disappeared just as she touched the casket.
I figure I was hallucinating, but the guy didn’t look at all like what I always thought of as a ghost. He was of Irish descent and his hair was fiery red just like in real life and he looked pink around the edges from blood pumping beneath his pale skin just like when he was alive.
It was a long time before I told anyone and I never let on to the widow at all.
It is funny that now that ‘Touched By An Angel’ has aired on TV, everyone is seeing angels. Where were they before?

angel
Actually I think it was just a tall tale.
who knows…our brain is a powerful thing.
I was sleep deprived this past weekend and I started seeing things on the freeways….like the reflectors on the side…i kept thinking those were people popping out of nowhere.
I don’t know…it’s possible it could have been an angel….
I think she was overcome with grief. To her, it might have been an angel. but God no longer sends angels to earth. It may have been her eyesight or her longing to “see” and angel. I dont believe though that God sent a physical angel to show her the way.
God works in mysterious ways.
I’m on the Angel side of this debate. Unless the woman was not only grieving, but also on some kind of hallucinogen.
umm it may be possible…
you were late today!!
This is definitely not 9:30…
What ever you want to call them, it was someone sent to help her grieve. 12 years ago after my uncle passed away I had the same dream. My uncle and my grandpa are standing with me telling me everything will be OK. I never saw the person in the casket. Two weeks later I found out I was pregnant with my son, my husband was still laid off. 6 years later my brother passed away and now he visits me in my dreams, was that the message I got from my first dream. IDK but it really makes me wonder.
I believe in miracles and angels and all of the amazing things that come with them.
I do think it was an angel. Not in the form we picture an angel to tradtionaly be in, but still very likely an angel. I feel that we encounter angels all the time, that God has them there for us, but we never see them because they look like ordinary people. We see miracles everyday..we just don’t open ourselves up enough to realize it.

grief
Not really a question we should spend a whole lot of time trying to answer, don’t you think?
We only see them when we believe they are there. It probably wasn’t an angel, but I totally believe it could’ve been a spirit there to comfort her. Most people don’t ever feel them around us because they don’t believe, they aren’t open to it. If you let yourself be open, and believe.. and feel them.. they are with us when we need them. I feel my dad around me all the time.
i’m pretty sure that angels don’t drive, but if it helped her at that time, then it was an angel to her no matter who or what it actually was.
40th!!!!!!
hmm. that’s a toughie.
im thinking that it was
her grief. i believe in angels
but it’s so rare that anyone is
really visited by one, and my point
was good until it started to suck…
I think its likely that she saw an angel.
It was an angel to her. Even if it wasn’t “actually” an angel, it helped her in a time she needed it. -ClearlyNaive
Agreed.
It’s credible either way cuz God can send peace either way. The bottom line is that she’s comforted by God. He’s just that kind of Person — doesn’t delight in our pain.
I’m sure in her mind she saw it….i guess “angels” to me wouldn’t drive a vehicle…. i don’t know…could’ve been grief….
angel
We don’t have enough information to know for sure. But as I have mentioned in an earlier posts of mine, the curtain drawn between the physical world and the spiritual is not as solid as we often think. God blows it aside with His very breath and steps into our world in a dramatic way, more often than many of us realize.
what ever gives us comfort.
I’m sure it was an angel. I have an experience that’s a lot like that.
i think that lady’s been doing a little you know what…
I would have to say angel…and I agree with a previous post…it could have been that he was not an angel to anyone but her…but he was her angel…on the other hand, I believe that we are always going to be introduced to angels unaware. They are on the earth for a reason…
She didn’t see the hidden driveway he pulled into.
I like this answer given by LCCInsko. I agree totally so I’ll just copy and paste:
It’s entirely possible that it was an angel. It may have just been some stranger, but even if it was, God would have been using him to give her peace.

I agree with what others have said about its possibility of being an angel, but regardless of real or not, it still brought her comfort and that’s the important thing so in my eyes, it was still a Godsend.
saw an angel.
i’m pretty sure i saw one once.
it was an angel.
It was an angel. They help us in our times of true need, no matter how great or small.
A benevolent spiritual being…a messenger sent to absorb all the grief she carried within…..her angel
Both
Same thing happened to my Grandma when her husband died.
Angel. My nephew was recently murdered and I know that an Angel has been with my 5 year old son. Are we all grief stricken ? YES! but I know for sure that he has been talking to an Angel. Is it my nephew? His cousin? Not sure about that! But someones there for sure!
We PCA folks tend to be a little cerebral about our faith– not so touchy, feely-ish, but the Bible DOES say that we might “entertain angels unaware.” So it’s definitely possible.
Dan-o: You have been spoofed. Carry on.
I’d like to say that the physical reality of it doesn’t matter and that if she believed it was an angel, then God gave her an angel. This isn’t true of all things, but I’m a pretty subjective gal.
Overcome with grief.
But there’s no reason to tell her that.
Let her think it was an angel.
I most definitely beleive that it wasan angel.I’ve had experiences where people havecome to me in times of need and sometimes, I haven’t a clue who they are. God helps us all out in ways we would never imagine.
A angel to her, but in actuality, who knows?
It could be an angel. My friends in high school were convinced that an angel drove me home from work one day. My boyfriend was supposed to pick me up, but his grandpa wouldn’t let him have the car. I couldn’t get a hold of anyone and I was really scared. I was crying really hard and this guy came up to me and asked me what was going on. He worked at the pizza place as a delivery boy. I told him what happened, he got me a diet coke, and told me he’d make me one of his deliveries. I’m usually a cautious person, but for some reason I felt really at ease with him. He dropped me off safe and sound. Later my two best friends went to the pizza place to thank the guy (and because they suspected he was an angel). The manager assured them that no one by that name worked there. Whether or not he was a messenger of God, he was my angel ’cause he kept me safe in a potentially dangerous situation.
Angel…I am a definite believer in Angels…I think that they exist all around us, all the time; but we can’t always see them. A lot of times…I think that babies and small children can see them–like when they are smiling about nothing…and looking off towards nowhere. Maybe I’m crazy!
Probably both. Surely she was overcome with grief, and also she was comforted by an angel. I have met with an angel before who comforted a group from my church as a youth. ~blessings.
I believe she saw something. Could have been an angel..I’m not sure. I’ve seen a spirit (I called it a ghost) before…and my husband was with me at the time and he saw it too. I do believe it’s real.
Overcome with grief.
angels don’t exist.
both

also, i think you’re infected with a virus. i got redirected to a “zangastats” page where i was prompted to enter my password and username.
The problem with society is at first glance we either choose one or the other never contemplating that it could be both or neither.
Grief
an angelll
Grief
I think we all have the potential to do a good deed and, through being in tune with God’s will, be an “angel” to someone in their moment of need.
An Angel. God sends them to comfort us. He sent one to wake me up by forcibly shaking my shoulders as my house was burning down.
((( GRANDMA HUGS )))
Lori
I believe in angels.
I firmly believe in angels, but I don’t know for sure if this was an act of God sending an angel.. or just a moment of grief or exagerated story. It wouldn’t surprise me either way.
Im a little suspicious of stories like that. A friend once told me that demons visited his room, and were taunting/teasing him, and they physically picked up his bed and were spinning it around, but that when he cussed them out they left. He was being serious. I didn’t believe him. Who knows if demons might be able to take on physical form? Any oppinions I have are just that, oppinions… but I’m pretty sure a demon wouldnt be scared off by a human teenager cussing him out. I wouldnt even be scared off by that, and I’m a fairly timid person.
i do think that angels and demon’s exist… just most of people’s stories about “supernatural experiences” seem to have a little too much hollywood or cheese factor to be taken seriously.
Grief; possibly a lie, or just her imagination.
Nicholas
I beleive in angels.
grief
ryc: yeah i’ve already graduated though and been out in the real world working my butt off and i’ve interned three times already through undergrad…so I guess I just feel like I’ve paid my dues and moved on so it’s more of a regression feeling than anything…thanks for the encouragement!
And yes I definitely believe in angels.
i so believe in angels…. i see them often!!
I believe in angels, but I don’t think they show themselves all that often. In any case, I think that yes this would be an angel, but there’s no way to tell.
-Jared
angel!
angel
I belive that it would have been an angel. Angels are everywhere aroung use. Conversly so are demons……..
I say angel
I say angel
It’s was definitely an angel. God works in amazing ways and when he sees his child struggling, he will surely help! Also, I believe that angels are all around us whether we acknowledge them or not.
Pesky
I believe in Angels.
Erika
It could be either one. I’m more inclined to believe it was an angel or a real person. Maybe the car did have somewhere to go and she just didn’t see it?
It could be either. One reason I love the movie Wings of Desire is that it shows angels and how they interact with humans in a way that I thought was beautiful. It’s like they are the supreme witnesses of the human experience. It’s a great movie. Grief tends to open doors that are usually shut. That’s what I think.
nothing supernatural
so, probably a hallucination
-Shrugs- kind of odd.
Angel
I would have to agree with LarsThunder on this one. I would definately say angel… In any sort….the important thing is that God gave her comfort in her greif. Do any of us really know what angels look like? They have to be bright to be in God’s presence as they are, and The Holy Word of God tells us that they are almost firey beings, strong and all…Kinda reminds me of a flame comsumed G.I. Joe with wings! But there are different types of angels as well. My knowege on this is limited, but as has been said many times, “God works in mysterious ways”. I believe she needed comfort and God gave her comfort..he works in ways we can not fully comprehend, leaving us in awe and sometimes, simply speechless. In any case…I am glad the woman found comfort.
God Bless
If God is angry at America, which could be feasible, he definitely has a reason for it, we’re the world leaders of moral degradation and downfall. What do you think people round the world watch and hear and are influenced by everyday? America. And it’s our fault that many tragedies occur today. The last 60 years have made the ground we stand on now, with nation sworldwide hating us, peoples believing false truths and creating stereotypes, fighting because of those stereotypes and so on. God has a reason to be mad at us, we screwed the world up, and we were supposed to be a beacon of truth. Man, have we screwed up.
And I believe she saw what she needed. Angel, possibly, I don’t know. But if it brought her peace, then that’s what matters.

Possibly an angel…but we may never know…
Grief.
I think I’d have to know the woman….I don’t really know. I don’t believe that angels can take human form. But I’m sure it was a sign from God in some sort….this is a hard one.
we are all angels
it was an angel
or an ancestor comforting her…
Angels and miracles are not impossible.
Me and my little sister (she’s nine) were riding my atv on a lonely, empty mountain trail, and the back wheels of the four-wheeler slipped off of the trail. We were VERY lucky that neither of us were hurt or killed. There was still the problem of getting the atv out of the small ravine it had fallen into.
It wasn’t long before a man came along. On the front of his atv he had a winch. In no time, he had my atv out of the ravine and me and my sister headed back to camp.
I am convinced that that day was full of angels and miracles.
-Chris
this could be my atheism talking, but i’ll go with grief.
The first, BECAUSE of the second.
actually…I doubt it was even luck that we weren’t hurt…something much more powerful
why not both?
Figment. Not a Fig Newton. A figment of her imagination. Or a ghost.
But, between the 2, I’d say angel.
don’t angel’s have wings
Hard to say w/o knowing the precise details of the incident, but angels do exist so it is not outside the realm of possibility that it was an angel.
I don’t think it was either of them…I think maybe that there really was a man, and he really did put his arm on her shoulder. Someone doesn’t have to be an angel to offer condolences. She may not have known the man, and he may not have known her…but I think he really was there.
Eva.
this post probably wasn’t suppose to be spooky…but. yah i am a bit spooked.
it was probably an angel…God sent angels to Abraham and Sara in the Bible…they looked human to them..so it’s possible
She saw what she believed in.
I believe that God reveals His angels to us, when we most need them, and when we believe! I believe she saw an angel!
I believe in angels and I believe the lady if she said he was there. Judi
prolly an angel…unlike a lotta people that i know…i do believe that angels do exist and that they do help you in times of trouble like that!!!!!
An Angel…totally an angel.
It could very much be an angel. She was at peace and thats all that really matters. I believe angels are among us though.
:sigh: I believe it. My mother offered me similar stories. She’s a pretty spiritual person and definitely not a liar, so I believe it. I half wish something like this would happen to me, but also not, since something bad usually triggers these occurences.
Reading this made me smile. =]
“See, I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
I dunno I spose its a bit of a mix of both… angels come to you in times of need dont they? and whats grief if not a time of need?
Hey, it says somewhere good, “sometimes you are entertaining angels unaware”.
Sounds like an angel to me
Another vote for Angel…
the cynic in me says grief. but i suppose a delusion or hallucination could be an angel to someone. angels are what you want/need them to be at a given time. anyone and anything can be an angel i suppose.
but we all know REAL angels wear robes of white, have halos, play harps, and migrate from cloud to cloud in herds called “choirs”. except the angel of death. he’s the rebellious one.
i totaly think it wuz an angel aaa thats so cool!
could be either, although i’d probably have to go with angel.
God knows.
But I liked the story.
It was an angel. There are angels everywhere. I have an angel experience that I will never forget and the memory is about 10 years old. I know there was an angel with me and that there may have been other times too.
Jen
It’s very possible she saw an angel. (I could go on but I have to get up at six tomorrow. Night)
she was living life
I wouldn’t say the man was an angel, but definitely believe that she was visited by a comforting spirit. I am a firm believer in the “spirit guide” concept that we all have spirit guides that are with us, witnessing in our joy and pain. Some are ones that we know (i.e., loved ones that have died) and others we don’t know that attach to us for some reason.
Angel
Grief. Things that are beyond our comprehension are in fact… beyond our comprehension, and most likely, our senses… angels are a projection of human traits, physical features, emotions, even consciousness. To attach such traits to the creator in any manifestation, to attach HUMAN traits to the creator and its manifestations is blasphemy. As the bible says, “I am what I am – I am unknowable” I may have gotten the quotes wrong, im not much of a biblical scholar, they are out of context and not quoted together.
