Month: January 2006

  • Abstain

Some things are difficult to give up.  For different people, different things are more difficult than for other people.  For some, it can be caffeine.  For others it may be talking on the phone.  I heard of a family that gave up watching TV for a complete year.

Excluding basic needs, what would be the hardest thing in your life to give up for a complete month?

  • Visiting Places

When I was nine years old, I visited Washington DC for the first and only time.  There was so much to see.  I went and visited the Washington Monument.  I visited the Smithsonian Institute.  I visit Capital Hill where Congress meets.  I was so impressed with the size of that building.  It was during that time I started to get interested in politics.

I also visited Ford Theater where Abraham Lincoln was shot.  There was a little display set up in the basement of Ford Theater where you could see some special memorials from that fateful night.

The one place we didn’t get to see was the White House.  At the time, it was always closed on Mondays.  I really wanted to see what it looked like on the inside even if it was a two hour wait.

Don’t mention a state or a country.  Name the one place you would like to visit.

  • Laundry Part 3

We will try another hypothetical. Pretend you are at the laundry place drying a large comforter. You place the comforter in the dryer and you now have some time to kill. You make sure your daughter is safe and clear from the dirty toys they have laid out. Pretend you walk up to the soda machine. Pretend the soda machine is an older model. Pretend you place two quarters in the machine. Pretend you look over the selections. Pretend the laundry management has placed the drinks in this older machine themselves so it has both the Coke and Pepsi option.

    Coke or Pepsi?

  • Underage Drinking

I was at a party when I was 16 years old.  My parents told me to never drink.  At this party I thought I was going to drink for the first time.  So I took a few sips of the drink.  It gave me a slight buzz.  I then got in my car and drove home.  My mom figured out that I had drunk alcohol when I got home.  It was the only time I drank and then drove.  I probably wasn’t legally drunk but I was certainly a little buzzed.

I was at another party when I was around 17 years old.  The mother was leaving for the evening to go to work.  She told us that she didn’t care what we did but we could not leave the house if we drank any beer.  She did not want us drinking and driving.  We all said “Ok.”  I called my mom and told her I was spending the night at a friend’s house and we drank but we followed the woman’s instructions and didn’t go out and drive.

Is it smarter for a parent to let their son and daughter to drink in front of them to avoid the chance that they drink and drive?

  • Strip Clubs

I have never been to a strip club. I had a friend who went once and he said he was not very impressed with the girls. He did not think they were very attractive. He said he would have preferred to stay home and watch his wife dance on a table.

Why do guys go to strip clubs?

  • Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

I have always been shocked by the varying degrees of what people will allow their potential spouse to get away with at a bachelor party. I knew a lady who said to her potential spouse, “Do whatever you want just as long as you get it out of your system.” I have heard others say “You can look but you cannot touch.” It is surprising to me that these type of actions would be the type of actions a person would participate in the day before they pledge allegiance to another person.

What do you think is allowable at a bachelor or bachelorette party?

  • Steroids

Should a player who admits to steroid use be disqualified from the Hall of Fame?

  • Bed Sheets

In my opinion, it is better to take a bath before you go to bed.  The reason is that I am clean before I get in the bed.  Then I am clean when I wake up.  My wife said it is better to take a bath in the morning because then she will be clean in the morning.  The advantages to this system is that we don’t use up the hot water leaving no hot water for the other.

You can probably see the problem.  She is going to bed dirty and therefore making the bed dirty.  I therefore think that the sheets should be cleaned more often than she thinks they should be cleaned.  So I must make it a priority to make sure the bed sheets are clean.

How often should bed sheets be washed?

  • Homeschooling

I have always wondered about the quality of education given to a child that home schools.  It appears to me if a person was experiencing primarily one teacher, they would be limited at some level.  It would have an impact on their social development also.  Social development is helped by contact with others.

Is the typical quality of a home school education inferior or superior to the typical quality of a public school education?

  • Angels

A lady one time told me a story about standing over a grave.  She said she was standing over the grave alone.  She told of how a little old man stood and put his hand on her shoulder and she felt a peace.  She said he got in his car and drove away.  She said she followed him and he turned.  She looked down the street when she went past it and the car was gone.  She said there was no place for it to go.  She was convinced that the individual was an angel.

Do you think it is more likely that this woman saw an angel or that she was overcome with grief?
