American Fat
I am still accepting new friends on xanga’s new feature. Go back two post if you want to know about it.
I want to discuss an issue tonight that I can’t remember if I discussed before. I talked about body image before but I don’t think I have talked about American fat. I was hearing Oprah playing in the background today and I heard them talk about the topic of the book “French Women Don’t Get Fat.”
On the show they were talking about how we as Americans are fat. In fact, it is hard to go very long listening to the news without hearing how fat Americans are getting. I have looked at those BMI weights at the doctor’s office. I don’t think I will ever hit them.
Are we as Americans fat?
Comments (191)
Yes.
(First.)
Yes. We even put things in our foods that make us eat more than we actually need.
heck yes
generally yes
Most are: luckily, I am not one of them.
6th? and yes most definatly
Yes … obesity is a huge problem in America!! Too much fast food …
yup
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes……in the UK the diet is very similar…yet they are not as fat why?
well its all about portions.
even if you go to macdonalds…the UK portions are much smaller compared to the united states (for the same type of food)
Yes.
Take a look around. YES.
There is an obesity epidemic among our children. CHILDREN are getting fat!!! It’s just sad.
yay go audrey! i love you
peace max
Yeah.
At least me/my family is
mostly.
we’ll be telling our grandchildren about it… the great obesity epidemic, there was porkchops & cheesecake everywhere. (lazyboy)
Without question.
Of course, when I think back to the prophets of doom back in the seventies — who were saying that the world would run out of food in twenty years — I have to chuckle a little when I see all these headlines about the obesity epidemic.
The UK McDonalds not only have smaller portions, but they have literally like NO salt on their fries, and everything tastes a bit bland. Their food tastes like crap, therefore, they eat less of it. Seriously.
Overall yeah, I saw somewhere over 60% of America is overweight
I’m fat. I won’t speak for anyone else.
Heh I am
yes
Yessir.
What job do you have that allows you to be online so often?
yes. i think it reflects our greedy consumerist culture and how we’re always wanting, how we’re always hungry for something to fulfill us.
Europe bmi averages i think are increasing (britain is too)
blame it on every damn fast food around the corner. People don’t make dinner anymore, they satisfy theirselfs with a wendy’s around the corner. And it’s also lazy that many don’t care about how fatty that food really is. Its a wonder that they don’t have natural food restaurants in every corner and the people will come, so yeah, we’re fatter as a mass, but when you have big options like these here what do you expect.
you can see where iraq will be going. Then their people will be fat too, bleh.
We are in Canada too, but we need it for insulation.
I guess so. Most people at my school are sticks, though. Must be the all-girl thing coming into play.
yes in a way because of all thet fast food places, tv commercials about junk food, and etc
heck yes : /
Most definitly
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I actually can think of very few fat people I know or have even seen in my town.
But that’s just my town
heck ya
Yes very much so.
Amanda
Europe is fat too.
YES, fatty fat fat!
Absolutely.
HELL FUCKING YES. It’s so disgusting.
actually there are ALOT of severely underweight people in america now.. trying to follow after starving models and such.. but there are also alot of severely overweight people.. so it evens out i guess =
we consume everything they shovel into the trough
My grandma weighed around 400 lbs at one point in her life. That’s exactly 4 times my weight. I attribute my skinnyness to me growing up in Asia and eating GOOD, HEALTHY food every day. Long live rice!
Unchecked, unregulated consumption is the American Way!
No wonder the world is thrilled with Western global expansion!
Yeah, compared to other countries probably.
There’s just not very many truly healthy food restaraunts in America and there’s fast food joints around every corner.
It’s hard to keep a healthy diet in America.
I’m fat.
But america’s pretty phat. 8)
Yeah, that was my corny joke of the day.
Definitely…we are the super size world
I’d much rather be too thin than too fat. I think I would throw a fit if I went up to 110 lbs (I’m 5’6). That’s too heavy for me. (Notice I said “for me”, not for others).
Yes, but its sterotyped way to much
yes
generally…. oh yes….
We are the fattest country in the world, and we’re getting fatter. But so are the rest of the world’s industrialized countries. It’s too easy to get food with all the convenience, fast food, healthy foods being expensive, and general laziness because of drive-thrus and being able to do more things without leaving our la-z-boy chairs, thanks to the internet. We need to do two things: get off our fat asses and lose some weight, and also be accepting that people are fatter than ever, and we don’t all fit neatly into standard-sized places, like airplane seats. I know I sound like I’m contradicting myself, but as a fat American, I take both sides.
yes yes yes.
yes.
I would say… YES. Thankfully, I’m not overweight, but our society as a whole is definitely overweight.
Yes, because of fatty foods, soft drinks and television slothfulness. My aged father who is old enough to recall the 1950′s was quoted as saying: “what’s with all of these fat women these days, you rarely saw girls that looked like that when I was growing up(gesturing towards some jogging fat chick)”. It’s a sign of the times. I can guarentee you people in Ethiopia have better figures than the average American in this day and age.
YES!
Americans are lazy and want everything fast. Which makes us fat.
Nicholas
Yes
psh no. we’re healthy. everybody else don’t eat enough.
buuuuuuut, eh, a good amount of people in the U.S. are fat.
i can’t get fat. even if i tried.
i burn off all the fat wlaking aorund skool.
i gained 10 pounds over spring break.. and lost 5 pounds the 1st week of skool… just from walking…….
high metabolisms. love em.
<3 Catrina
we’re definitely fatter than any other nation
yeah i think so.
We all eat too much.
mhmm.
Yeah, we’re friggin tubs of goo these days. No one exercises and everyone eats too much.
NO!!! We’re just… big-boned.
I’m Canadian. I think both of our countries could be classified as “fat”.
including europe as a whole, who is no less developed than us. yes, more people are getting fatter, but not at the same rate as the US
The minority of overweight people is certainly larger than in most contries, but I doubt it’s any more than a comparitively large minority. I know of extremely few obese people in my neighboorhood. More common, people I know are slightly overweight, but it can hardly be seen has heavily limiting their mobility and health. As for childhood obesity, even being overweight is very rare. My school is definitely on average a healthy weight. A more pressing problem seems to be all the bony little nerds (Twig-boy pride!) and stick-thin prep-girls.
On a related note, I remember seeing very recently a news story about how Japan is following in our footsteps and becoming slightly overweight as a norm. Maybe it’s not all that bad?
I believe the stat is 63% of americans are classified as overweight
yes
Yes. I think our portion sizes are out of control, as are our eating habits.
Pretty much so, yeah.
Hahahaha.
Not really sure what the laugh was all about.
Sorry.
a lot are.. yes.
I’m not.. takes a lot not to be..
i guess whatever nationality have fat people…
Yes. It’s all the fast food. I’m not, and I consider myself lucky for that. maybe the new generation will be more knowledgable about it, or we’ll just puff up and be the fattest ones of all. Who knows?
YES YES YES
yeah, afraid so
:/ ha. haha.
I believe that Americans are not genetically predisposed (for the most part) that causes us to be the fat. It’s our lifestyle that is fat and is what makes us fat…
So I hear…..
That French Women Don’t Get Fat book is really good, by the way. I enjoyed reading it and have incorporated a couple of the concepts into my daily living.
And thanks for being my friend. I still haven’t figured out how to Nudge, but I’m very excited about all the possibilities. (heh)
Yup. Absolutely. Not only do we have fast-food chains at every corner, but we put things IN the food to make it worse for you.
i weigh pretty much nothing according to my doctor, haha. im in new jersey right now, eww.
peace max
Yes. And I’m sure there’s a logical reason for it. And of course, not all of us are ‘fat’.
Logical reason:
Sheer laziness. And lack of self control.
And people worry about all the Ana’s and Mia’s?
They’re just about equal to all the Obese, except more self control and a helluvalot less laziness.
I guess, whatever.
Not my problem.
Well, there is a difference between being overweight and obese. A bit of these commenters are getting them mized up.
And I think the main problem is the growing gap between the dangerously underweight and the dangerously overweight. The anorexics are told to gain weight and that you don’t need to fit the model image. And the obese are being told that they need to fit model image. There is not nearly enough focus on HEALTHY living. People are getting mixed messages. And so, what happens? The skeletal get thinner and the obese get bigger. The growing gap is the problem, not just the obese.
Very fat.
Many are, yes. I think it’s more about the ease of our society than anything. Desk jobs, tv, and ready-transportation. Not to mention on-the-go foods. Many keep themselves busy with everything but personal care. There are obviously those more taken with their care than others.
generally speaking yes
Yeah, it’s all about portion control and we sadly have missed this boat…
Pesky
yes
very much so.
i don’t know if all americans are fat, but i think that we need to realize a problem when we see it. we can’t just give up the food we love and its not like the government is about to put restrictions on it, i think that we need to try to emphasize more actual playing time running around and having fun more than who can win the next computer game!
French Women Don’t Get Fat is a really good book. A lot of the things the author said made perfect sense. If you just eat good food that tastes good, and get some exercise every day, you’ll be fine. Since I read the book I haven’t really eaten things like bagels and other really bland foods that would tempt me to eat too much.
It’s remarkable that in the United States people can be fat and malnourished at the same time. We’ve got an abundance of cheap food with no real nutritional value. There’s no quick fix, either.
yes.
Yes. I think they are the majority. But we aren’t the only country. I don’t think at least.
yes, i mean, even though i guess we should really be basing weight on body fat percentage instead of using the scale since muscle weighs more than fat, americans are getting fat. i watched the Oprah episode today too, and i was pretty surprised at the fact that 67% of Americans are fat. it’s an epidemic!
heck yes
First of all I don’t think you should be looking at the BMI charts as the “End all and be all” interpretation. I am working in Exercise Science and know for certain that the BMI charts are just a common range to see where you are … To tell the truth the most accurate way to calculate % body fat is actually to do underwater weighing. Another method, not as good as underwater weighing but much more convenient is BIA, or Biolectrical Impedance, which actually measures the amount of fat free mass. (However, conditions must be consistent for results to be accurate. Also a great amount depends on how hydrated a person is.) Remember I am just studying this so I have only a limited “inside scope” of intelect, there are still many things I have yet to learn.
As far as Americans being FAT… are you speaking in terms of being “obese” which in scientific terms means that the excessive fat on your body is detrimental to your health… or are you speaking of being “overweight” which consists of people who have 30% fat … These are the two terms that Exercise science people will use instead of “fat” since there are different levels for such a physical state. I also have to input here that you should consult your physician about such a topic, as they are specialists working directly within the field!
and they are always happy to assist.
(In my personal opinion, … yes, we Americans are fat. BECAUSE we no longer know the definition or concept of moderation. Our lives are fast paced, we have little patience and we want things to taste GOOD. Fast food served NOW, and it better have lots of fat in it so it doesn’t taste horrible. (Remember, what makes food taste good a majority of the time? The fat in it, think of steaks, they are purposely cooked with marbling and fat on the sides to make them taste all the better. That is fine as long as you trim the “grissle” off after it’s been cooked before you eat it.) Your body has natural fat that it uses for energy, but when you overload (which we all do) the fat , the body stores that because we don’t expend it. KEY CONCEPT FOR ALL: Balance!! Calories in vs. calories out, make sure that you intake only as much as you will use … you will be better able to maintain healthy body composition.
Yes, we Americans are fat… for numerous reasons. There is, as other people have mentioned, problems with portion size (we always want more more more), as well as high-calorie fast foods. There also is our lifestyle in general–we live in a culture that’s on the go constantly. Making money is our number one priority, which leaves little time for physical activity and creates a lot of stress. This all wrecks havoc on our bodies and immune systems–so not only are we fat, we’re also stressed out and in general poor health (physically and mentally).
Yes we are. Trust me, I’m a health major…we, as a whole, are Obese.
Yes, sir. We are.
Yes.
when the little 9 year old boy at my church can barely reach his hands to each other and fold them while praying… i would say that america is starting to get slightly overweight…
OMG. Aericans are known for two things: Obesity, and the power of suing.
yea
I’ve seen skinny fat ppl too, it’s sorta funny, they’re skinny, but the little fat they have wobbles on their bones, just like JELLO.
LoL
YES!!! Pass the Big Mac, fries and apple pie…oh…and a Diet Coke.
America is fat because:
O we are building less and less communities that require us to walk
O we are taught that faster = better and that if it takes more than 30 seconds in the microwave, it’s not worth it
O we expect instant gratification, so when we go on a diet and don’t see immediate results, we bomb out.
O we are taught that health foods such as tofu and soy are “gross” and people that eat those foods should be made fun of
O we’re so darn lazy
And a million other reasons.
Yep we as americans are getting much fatter. In a world of go there do this do that and do it as quickly as possible it is very hard for many people to sit down and eat healthy, it is much eaisier to get some fast food which is pretty much always much more worse for you than the food that you could cook for yourself. Also with the invention of video games children start to get fat much earlier than before. I know that is one of the reasons that I am fat. I sat down and played to many games when I was a kid and didn’t do enough physical activity. Also I do believe that corner coffee shops cause alot of problems also. Alot of people like their frappachinos and things of the like and those are extremely high in calories, soft drinks are also very high in calories for somethings that are just beverages and many people drink several a day. I know I used to drink about 3 42oz. Dr. Peppers a day. Now I mostly drink water and tea. I do miss Dr. Pepper. :( I watched a video the other day and a professor at some university said that the population will have caused a food shortage between 2030 and 2050 I have more on that posted on my xanga if you want to read more. But yeah americans are fatter than ever.
Ohmagosh! Of course Americans are, in general, fat. I didn’t realize how much until I moved to a different city. All of my friends (from back home) and I, are skinny. But I have seen so many significantly overweight ppl here! It grosses me out! And the sad part is that most of them don’t care.
yes. i was watching this interesting movie today called Children of Heaven about this brother and sister who lived in Iran. as i was watching, it hit me– you never see an obese Iranian. why? their lifestyles are so different from ours. we have the luxury of opting for vehicles to transport us instead of walking everywhere and all of the toys we buy take a majority of the physical load off of us, not to mention most of us aren’t worrying about how we’re going to get our next meal. basically, americans are so fat because we allow ourselves to be by creating shortcuts to everything we do.
p.s. here’s IMDb’s link to the movie if you’re interested.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118849/
Society has taught us to take shortcuts to get places faster…. with that being said we get lazy – so driving through the drive-thru picking up some nasty greesy crap is much easier then standing in the kitchen making a meal that won’t make you want to puke after you eat it and regret it when you stand on the scale the next morning. We live in the moment instead of looking ahead. And hey for only 5 cents extra you can get twice as much food by super-sizing it, what a bargain! Too bad we’re not willing to save that 5 cents and 20 years of our life.
Maybe people would be willing to eat better if the cost of “easy healthy food” was cheaper. Who wants to spend $6 on a container of already cut produce (when you can buy the whole fruit for much cheaper) when you can go across the street and get a meal for yourself that could actually feed about 3 people for the same price? For some reason we only become budget-concious when it comes to food…..
oh, and don’t be fooled by those salads at mcdonalds – the Bacon Ranch Salad with Crispy Chicken is 340 calories and has 16 grams of fat and 1140mg of soldium!!! (that’s NOT including the salad dressing!) So compare the “healthy” salad to a cheeseburger that is 310 calaries 12 grams of fat and 740mg of sodium….
loads of us are.
Dan, you should take the Nazi quiz I posted on my site. XD It’s fascinating.
My dad was a treasure seeker and it would take him to lots of places around the world… he was into finding gold ….while on his trips home he would often remark how America keeps getting fatter….we drive everywhere…and supersize everything and we live to eat rather than eat to live….it would seem the heart attacks, diabetes….and cancers that they are connecting to diet seems to continue to climb so I would say I guess that we are…
That book you referred to talks about how french women do not deny themselves anything they want to eat but they do it by taking only 3 bites of it… they walk everywhere…and they smoke….so they may be thinner but I don’t think smoking is going to help them live longer even if they stay slim…
thanks for inviting me…btw : )
Kerri
Yes yes and yes. And if we aren’t fat, we feel fat.
We are and I think one of the reasons why is bc food that is bad for you is cheaper than food that is good for you. I noticed this when I was in London (I think when you’re a student, you notice this a lot more). A dinner of say fish and chips costs you 2 pounds, whereas getting something like a salad or something healthy is more than twice that. If people don’t have the money to get the healthier option, they wind up eating what they can afford, which most of the times is not very healthy. The same thing occurs here in the US, fast food and unhealthy things are just cheaper, faster, and fill you up. I think one of the huge differences between here and Europe is that over there, everyone walks, cities are smaller and things are closer together. There’s no way I can walk anywhere here, living in a suburb basically isolates you from everything and you’re forced to drive everywhere. Portion sizes are also a factor, they don’t know what it means to “super size” things over in Europe. So, yes I think we as Americans are fat, but the rest of the world is slowly catching up to us.
yes i think we do…look at the chinese people. they look inerexic.look at us ..WE BEAT ANOREXIA!!lol. ( says the fat dude)
~Sign~
yes
YES
Americans are fat because we are rich. Rich=fat
Even the poor people are fat, because they aren’t really poor. They eat all they want at shelters.
But, I think, another reason we are fat is because of the quality of food. Face it, our food is awesome. Compared to raw fish (no offense) unleavened non, and other rather disgusting foods of the less food-based societies of the world, Mcdonald’s is friggin’ sweet!
For example. Houston is the fattest city on the face of the planet. Because Southern food is good. Salty, buttery, steak, seasoned with salt in 10 different forms. It is good.
Go up to Missouri, and you will find that the steak is bland. (compared to ours, I am sure the native Missourians find it delectable), and you look at the standard Taco Bell and there isn’t quite so much greasy goodness. Down in the South, food is good. That is what it is like in other countries…I am sure they find their food alright, but they aren’t infatuated with it. My mother can’t go without a meal, or she gets headaches and complains of stomach problems. I think your average Indian (from India, that is) good go a day or two without food and still be ok…
Well, depends who you look at. But I think our anorexic starving friends and our McDonald’s junkies balance each other out, so we’re relatively average.
We have the beginnings of an obesity epidemic. As does Australia. It’s was in their papers and stuff when I was last over there.
Someone was talking about how the UK McDonald’s are alot worse so they don’t eat so much – I was in Paris and had to go to a McDonald’s for my little brother [he wouldn't eat anything] and the food was actually good, and seemed pretty healthy for restaurant food. Just kind of came to mind..
There’s also the whole anorexic/bulemic thing going around.
I think we just can’t get it right.
I’m fat and like youroutercritic I won;t speak for anyone else
Thanks for informing us about this. I wouldn’t have known otherwise. I’m excited and am gonna go check it out now! pete
yes. Learning about it all in exercise science freaks me out a little. But then all I want to do is NOT eat, and that’s just as equally unhealthy.
If people would just exercise and not consume so many calories from fatty foods and sugars – we’d be fine.
=)
*A*
we’re the fattest of the fat
Not sure. Canadians probably have weight troubles too. I have the opposite problem. I’m too skinny.
It’s due to the portion sizes and lack of exercise. Yes, generally americans are fat.
I’m skinny, but in my head I tell myself I’m fat. It’s a constant battle with myself.
I think most people have given up and they are eating their emotions.
yeah, we as americans for the most part are lazy bitches
That is a stupid question
yes, America is the fattest nation in the world
look at statistics
you might of had decent posts in the begginning, but now theyre lame
and you are still being featured
your posts hardly qualify as ”content worth being featured” anymore
yes definitely.
Yes, definately. Aren’t we like the most overweight nation?
I’m not fat, but America is. That’s because we have so much food we don’t know what to do with it, even after exporting and such.
God Bless America
As a whole, yes.
As a side note: America is the first country to simultaneously have an obesity problem and a poverty problem.
- Cat
I would definitely feel that as the country as a whole, obesity is a fact today. There are so many contributing factors to this. Fast food, ease of getting junk foods instead of something more nutritional. It bothers me to see a child of 5 or 6 years of age with a weight problem. We (as a national whole) are not as physically active as we were 5 or 25 years ago. Times require for most families that both parents work in order to support the monitary and material needs of that familiy. Children are left more to their own devices both with regard to their activity or what they eat. Adults as well are not as phycially active as they once were. Yes, there are many that view their appearance and weight as their focus to maintain. I do not believe that fits the majority of national whole. Wow, as I said in a previous comment… the topics here are thought provoking and definitely worthy of thought out responses.
YES! Americans are overinduldgent SLOBS. It makes me wanna hurl.
oh yaa. I’ve hit them by the way
most of us. Especially Houstonians… regretfully.. my city is full of Bubble People, as I call them.
<3
hey, just a random comment, i think people should stop claiming first, its really not that cool to be the first commenter, in fact its downright annoying
Yep, for my height I’m 5-10 lbs. overweight, and still considered petite. Not only are we fat, be people no longer think that they should hit the ‘right’ weight, but they are compromising so much that the ‘right weight’ is now 20 lbs overweight!
America is fat.
Without a doubt, we are fat. Most likely due to our love for fast food and its conveniency, and sitting down for long hours at work. I actually grew up fat. I was 120 in 3rd grade and my family thought I had no hope of losing my weight later on. My doctor suggested fat camp and serious diets every time I visited him for illnesses. However, he was fat too. When i visited Korea, I saw no obese person in my two weeks there. In one day of school, I see about ten. Which is scary because adults tend to be more overweight than teenagers. I eventually lost all my fat by running 3-5 miles a day. I didn’t want any more of the teasing. However, it does affect the person. Being fat is not easy. Even I, after 3 years of not being fat suffer from self-consciousness. I step on the scale about six times a day.
“Face it, our food is awesome.”
You’re kidding, right? American food is not only fatty, it’s gross. Slimy and greasy and yuck. I’ll take some pansit or chicken curry or anything with RICE any damn day.
The vast majority of Asian food tastes great AND it’s healthy. No greasy burgers or miles of candy aisles. Blech.
I believe some of the fatness is caused by additives to our food. Something is going on since look how young our children are developing now. Fourth and fifth grade girls that are wearing young women’s bodies. I remember a time when most girls started menstruating was about 13 yrs old. We are now having 10 yr old girls starting. They say the growth hormones they give the animals can not be transferred but I am beginning to wonder.
its a weyrd mixture of extremes. people strive to be unhealthyly (and almost impossibly) thin while most are the polar opposite. the problem is that weight, although an important factor, is not the only factor in health. the problem with fast food also lies in nutrient intake…etc.
It seems to be the common thought that Americans are because of junk food etc but I feel that’s just a label as the americans I know are not
Everyone assumes Americans are fat. I have been America but I don’t think there’s much different then other country. I just think the reporters tried to develop an imagine that Americans = fat.
Yes, Americans are fat. But the general rule is they can get away with it, sadly enough.
Yes. Much more so than other countries.
Yes, both men and women
As a whole, yes! Too much fatty fast food, snacks and a sedentary lifestyle for a lot.
yes
quite a few are more heavier now then before and their are some who are not. I say mixed…. Most of America in my opinion is not FAT!
Probably, yes. We are lacking exercise and nutritional foods.
i’m not american O_O
but yes. i read that canadians and americans are among the countries with the fattest kids
yes the american public is getting way too big…our portions are growing and everyone is lazy so they pick up the phone to order out or go to the nearest fast food place….poor people seem to be heavy…i was watching a show on it and they said that poor americans are heavier cause cheaper food have more stuff in them to make you heavy or they buy in bulk things like pasta that make you heavy…people need to be more comcerned about their health…9 out of 10 doctors say that you should never eat fast food in your life time..and if you do only a few times in your lifetime cause it is just bad for you….well anyways have a good one dan
Speaking as someone living in a different country, yes, I would say a larger percentage of Americans are fat as compared to the percentage of people here that are.
American THINK they are fat more so than european. Women more so
Yes, we are. I think it’s interesting how many people (especially young women and girls, but also fellers) are utterly obsessed with their bodies and with the way they are physically viewed by others. Maybe both obesity and too-thin-ness are both symptoms of the same root problems?…
America is fat…France is not…Maybe we should legalize wine drinking for everyone…It’s gotta be something in the wine
yes i want to know about itt.. please and tnkas
not fat. just a little too pudgy. as in, if there’s an American, an Egyptian, and a Japanese person all stranded on a desert island and one of them has to be eaten in order for the others to survive, the American will go first because he/she is too fat to defend themselves and will provide more substance than either of the others.
America doesn’t need gastro-intestinal surgery, just a new balanced diet and exercise
yes
Yes
i think americans are far to fat we just dont know when to stop
indubitably. It’s been getting worse and worse since 1940 or so. It has to do with being so well-off. When your country is one of the richest (best is Japan, second best I believe is EU — although they’re more of a conglomerate than a single country, eh?) your citizens for the most part are well off.
DO NOT misunderstand. We have poor. A good percentage of poor (or a bad), but even they are overweight! We have fattening, quick, inexpensive food for sale everywhere. And not enough money put into medical research or medical care to account for it.
YEP!
yes, many americans are fat… part of the problem is that it is more expensive to eat well than to eat junk > when i was unemployed for 8 months, i wanted to eat soy burgers and fruit, but it cost $4.00 for a pack of 4 soy burgers, and $1.29 for a package of 10 hot dogs.
another problem is the size of our country > in order to walk to a grocery store i would have to walk 5 miles one way, and so most of us must drive everywhere we go
i think for some yes others no.luckily im not one of them either,im not fat but im not skin and bones either
Yes, and I think it has something to do with us all being in a hurry ALL THE TIME. Next time you go to a restaurant, check out how fast everyone shovels their food down! Hey, I do it too, but….It’s not good.
Pretty much – yeah. But if you spend much time in Mexico you will find a significant portion of the population is overweight there as well. Those that aren’t are the very young and the very poor. Middle and lower middle class Mexicans are often fat.
How do the French avoid it?
L,r
Yes.
heck yes, but the media has blown it way out of proportion. if people want to be fat, let them
You betcha. We don’t excersize, and we have unhealthy eating habits. I am guilty as charged. I’m not fat, per se, but I’m no size 0… but it doesn’t bother me that much.
The average woman in America is a size 10, and counting. Junk food tastes too good.
fuckin @ were fat.
YES
Yup~!
We as Americans are individuals. A great percentage of those individuals are probably fat. I’m not. So I’m not going to say Americans are fat…just certain individuals.
Yes…the age of convienence is killing us. We can literally sit down and do any and everything we want without having to move.
PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE POST. IT’S SO DANG TRUE*
1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you.
2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you is because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to someone.
7. If not for you, someone may not be living. 8. You are special and unique.
9. Someone that you don’t even know exists loves you.
10. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good comes from it.
11. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.
12. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won’t get it, but if you believe in yourself, probably, sooner or later, you will get it.
13. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.
14. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know.
15. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

vyvy 310, I agree with you! All we hear is how fat America is! Ya hear something long enough, ya believe it. Unless you think about it. My doctor says that truly obese people are that way because of a metabolic problem. Lick the metabolic problem, lick the obesity. I am overweight, and my doctor put me on a diet. However, my “obesity”, which is not even 200 pounds, is because I have had a difficult time getting around and getting exercise. I have always had to starve myself to lose any amount of weight. On my doctor’s diet, I am never hungry, take no pills, just eat what he recommends, and he recommends no sugar at all. I feel better than I have ever felt, and I am eating more protein with more fat content than I have eaten in years. I have also lost 10 pounds. Never hungry. I used to eat and never get full. Now I eat, and am satisfied. And yes, southern food is awesome! I love it all. I’m giving some of it up to be healthy. Asian food stinks!!!!
Let me reprase that. Hot Asian food is the pits. I wind up drinking more than I eat, which is next to nothing. But if Bittersunday likes it, more power to her skinny little self. If Jesus Freak likes her southern food, she knows what she’s talking about. But then, bs’s mouth is so hot anyway she probably doesn’t even notice the spices.
“I’m not fat, I’m big boned!!!” …………… lol
hell yeah!
im not, but as a whole, yes
Hey man you got a cool site.
yes. some americans are fat, but there always people who are skinny and average too. but we’re also a tall race so that makes up for some extra weight.. i think.
Americans are fat… but theres a huge community that feel this way (see below)… p.s. feel free to be disgusted.

whenever a friend of mine comes back from a different country, they’re just amazed at how fat americans are. not that other countries don’t have fat people, just that americans are fatter, as a group. the universal american is fatter than the universal german, and so on.
