Becuase they come through here later in life, suck up the welfare money, social security and other government programs that they have never paid into, such that we now run the risk of not being able to pay-up to those who have paid into the programs for their entire lives!
And the Irish.
because they are destroying the healthcare system?
We’re not specifically trying to get Mexicans out of the country, it’s just what circumstances have dealt us. If millions of Russians were living illegally in the US, we’d be seemingly out to get all Russians. It’s the act of mooching off our country illegally, not the nationality, that America needs to fight.
We don’t try to keep legal Mexicans out.
because, it’s a popular subject for the republican party. It makes it look like they are doing something. Even though there isn’t much they can actually do. for example. More border patrol means? more illegals caught perhaps, but those that are caught and sent back….umm what do they do? They try crossing again. That was my point yesterday. 1 person can try crossing over multiple times. But when they count, they count that one person multiple times.
It’s basically a political move, to gain votes. majority vs minority.
If it was really about terrorist threats we would be more focused on our canadian border.
Uh, we are?
Aren’t they just trying hard to get in, but just not the legal way?
I really wish I knew
We’re in a state of transition between a traditional national market and an international international market. The backlash against immigration is a temporary bout of confusion that will iron itself out as our economic incentives clarify themselves.
i think if u lived in socal you’d know why. hehehe =P
because they’ve lowered the standard of life in the areas that they have large numbers.
RYC: Thanks, Dan!
It’s not because they’re Mexican, but because they come in illegally instead of using the proper means to become a citizen. Yes, citizenship is hard to attain and yes the bureaucracy needs to be overhauled, but the law is still the law and it needs to be followed or changed. Also, most politicians in favor of making it easier to attain legal status recognize that we cannot simply allow everyone who wants to live here instant citizenship. It would then be too easy for criminals to escape the law of their own countries.
It’s not just Mexican’s; it’s all illegal immigrants. Illegal be the key word. Illegal’s suck up the resources the American citizens could be using. I work in health care, and the benefits I see illegal’s receiving, and American Citizens unable to receive would curl your hair. It’s an atrocity.
hmmm i have no clue
beats the queso out of me. seriously, I don’t get what the big deal is about illegal immigration. so you weren’t given “permission” to come to our country?! So what?? If you follow our laws, what’s the problem? Taxes? It’s always about money, isn’t it! geez. let them be.
ryc ~ awwww, you didn’t want to join the club?
ROFLMAO – somehow, i can’t imagine you with that title.
I think we should definitely regulate anyone crossing our borders in large numbers. It puts a major strain on our economy.
Why should people who were born here, and grew up here lose jobs to someone who isn’t a legal American citizen? Isn’t it bad enough that we outsourse jobs to other countries?
well if they would quit coming in illegially (?sp?) then maybe things would be different… and have you ever noticed that in the places that they are most of the population the crime rate is like a billion times higher… so yea i dunno…
ROFLMAO – i might have to quote your last comment – FUN-NY. Thanks for the mad laughter this morning.
Being a Hispanic from South Texas who has plenty of illegals as part of my adopted “family,” this is a topic very important to me. I feel like if there was some efficient way to get Mexicans to pay taxes and EARN the rights of Americans, than I would feel better. I hate the thought of people (in this case, Mexicans) having to live their life in fear…paying cash for everything… not being able to do things legally… and then, when they need medical care or food, they use OUR (AMERICAN) resources. If they want to be here, they need to contribute and I hate that there are barriers stopping them. If they do not want to contribute to the American economy and government (TAXES!), then they should be deported and criminally punished.
because as much as we want to be able to claim that we’re an accepting, loving, melting pot, we don’t like it when people are different from us in any way shape or form, and thusly reject them because they are different. Claiming that we are a melting pot is just a PR move.
We’re not. We let thousands upon thousands of Mexicans come to this country, many of them without our permission (i.e. illegal aliens).
Because they’re taking all the labor-intensive jobs that our lower class whites are too lazy to go out and get, causing them to draw from welfare and making our taxes higher. It’s a conundrum
I agree with Kim! I don’t want to keep them out in general but I can’t stand that there are so many of them here illegally and I’m the one paying taxes while they’re driving the fancy cars and making the money in our jobs and using our healthcare. If they want the US luxuries, they should make it legal and contribute like the rest of us!
The US is not trying to keep Mexicans from entering; we are trying to keep ALL illegal aliens out, whether they are Latinos, Asian, African, etc. Mexico is just the route most of them take to enter the USA.
Why? Because it is against the law! Hello?! If I, as an US citizen, were to go to another country, I would have to follow the laws of that country. If I did not, I would be kicked out or thrown in jail. It is the same here is the US.
I am all for folks immigrating to the US – shoot, part of my family did 200 years ago – but they need to follow the laws and rules but in place by our government. If they broke this law – what other laws are they going to brake?
i don’t know ryc – dan you are our leader…your posts must be ultimately strong!
I didn’t realize we were. I live in Minnesota which has the largest population per capita of Hispanics and Somalis and Hmongs…and most of those prolly aren’t legal! I’m not racist but I am tired of not being able to get the financial or medical help I need for my family because their too busy giving it to people who are here to live the “American Dream” and don’t want to work for it.
They will work alot cheaper and for cash thus putting alot of American people without a job!!!
RYC: Thanks… That was a very nice thing to say.
i have no idea why. i think we should make it easier for people
It’s not a matter of keeping Mexicans out of the country, it’s a matter of keeping illegal aliens out of the country. Illegal alliens from every country.
Good question..I don’t know. But I do havea probelm with what Idril_Nenharma wrote. Pretty ignorant if you ask me
My concern is not with Mexicans per se. I am more concerned about admitting terrorists. The Mexican border just happens to be the easiest land entry into the country – re: the number of illegals present now. I wish we could annex Mexico. We wouldn’t have such a large border to guard, but we would have a lot more coastal territory.
RYC:
“3 is perfect for us.”
Do you have 2 boys or 2 girls?
L,r
I think we have such a problem with so many coming illegally, and it’s still too easy for them to get in here. I have no problem if an immigrant wants to come and live in our country, and does it the legal way. That’s great, especially if they are looking for a better life. But I have a real problem with someone being lazy and not doing it the right way.
They are getting alot of everything for free.
As others already said, we’re not. We’re trying hard to keep illegal immigration in check, so we can be aware of who’s crossing the borders, who’s in our country, and who’s *dun dun dun* not paying taxes.
because deep inside, we’re all stingy beings. we paid for things our whole life, & to see others take it w/out paying…that really pisses us off! maybe we’re not that stingy…just don’t want to be cheated…
RYC: Thank you so much for what you said. It really made my day.
Yeeeps! I see the hate level rising up in here!
Prejudice, pure and simple.
Most Mexicans that come here, even illegally, come here to work and actually contribute a lot. No one immigrates to America to be on welfare, they come here for a better life, and they generally work their asses off to do so, and generally for bullshit pay. I think most Mexicans who are here illegally would love to do things like pay taxes and do things legally and on the level. The problem is that they feel compelled not to – they are rightfully afraid of being thrown out of the country.
I think it’s very interesting how many of the people who are so vitriolically against illegal immigration will not hesistate to hire a Mexian domestic (which they will look down their long nose upon) to clean their clutter or work their construction project at some unconscionably low wage. If they were really against illegal immigration they’d be working on paying all workers in this country a fair wage instead of cutting corners (cheap immigrant labor) thinking only of short term maximizing their profits (read: greedy, racist bastards).
This has happened to every new group that has come into this country – the Irish, Eastern Europeans, Japanese, etc. Generally the white groups become assimilated into the culture, but the nonwhite groups tend to have to deal with continuing prejudice. But even when the new groups entering the country were white, anti immigrant sentiment was based on nothing more than prejudice.
Excuse me if this topic gets me heated. But racism in any form – and this anti-Mexican propaganda that we get is nothing better than that – really pisses me off.
I guess because of the jobs… so many middle class Americans don’t realize the effect it has on some of the “lower class”. Then again, the Mexicans need jobs too. It’s just the Mexicans tend dominate one particular type of job (in general) and it makes it harder for Americans of certain incomes.
ryc – yep. i do it all the time. but sometimes it’s nice to sit back and point the finger, rather than being pointed at. ha ha ha!
I wish U.S. citizenship was easier to attain.
^ i don’t.
I think this is a misconception. Most Americans do not want to keep them out of our country. Most just want them to come here legally.
The risks of illegal immigration are incredible. Not to mention the risk of terrorists entering our country through our poorly protected borders, having illegal immigrants puts all of us in danger when they begin to live and work in our communities. For instance, my father was hit by a drunk illegal immigrant a few weeks ago while riding his motorcycle. Thankfully, the owner of the vehicle the guy was driving had insurance. Had the vehicle not been insured, my dad would have been forced to bear the costs of the accident on his own because the illegal alien did not have a driver’s license and therefore did not have insurance.
Basically, it comes down to an issue of liability. These people get to enjoy the benefits of citizenship without the responsibilities that go along with it. They drive illegally, but are not liable if an accident is caused because they are not required to carry insurance on a vehicle which they are not legally driving. They are able to go to hospitals and get care and get public services like garbage pickup, yet they don’t have to pay taxes because they are not legally employed. If they are hurt on the job, they can sue their employer even if it becomes apparent that they supplied false identification when they were hired.
Setting up a system by which people can enter the country legally to work, and tightening down on illegal immigration is the only way to solve these problems.
The myth that Americans simply don’t want these people here is the product of a small group of fanatics who are basically just spreading racism under the guise of nationalism, and of the people who profit most from illegal immigration: the Mexican government and the immigrants and their families back in Mexico. In order to maintain the status quo, they paint anyone who wants oversight of immigration as a racist who is totally against immigration. It’s the same “you’re either with us or against us” mentality that the Bush administration uses to paint anyone who wants oversight of NSA wiretapping as “pro-terrorist” or “anti-security.”
I’m not sure why. It could be that people think they are coming in and taking jobs away from U.S. citizens, but I’d be more worried about the U.S. outsourcing all of the manufacturing that could be done here to other countries.
limited resources.
We are trying to save them time and money. After we annex Mexico, they will just have to relocate again.
They crowed our public school systems with more children.
They don’t pay taxes.
They take away jobs from american.
THEY ARE ILLEGAL.
i think we should focus more on monitoring our borders, allowing people to enter legally in order to pay into the system, and most importantly bring jobs back to the american people.
americans will work if the wages are fair. most of the illegal immigrants are working under the table, which fosters low wage payouts.
Ps. I have no problem if they are legal.
Amanda
I thought it was Illegal Aliens?
^ LOL
I don’t think it’s just the Mexicans—but all immigrants. It’s not really something that is going to change….but let us remember that if each of us go back 2-3 generations, our family members were too immigrants. The U.S. is nothing but immigrants. Is that not what our country was founded on—someone please remind me of what the “Statue of Liberty” reads—”….bring your tired, hungry, poor….”
I don’t know. I think our efforts would be better served to screen our “legal” immigrants keep those that would damage the US out…
ryc: Yes, it’s sad indeed. It just amazes me whenever I come across them on Featured Content, not because they’re featured but because they are selling themselves so.
RYC: I really was just joking about the flowers, lol.
they take the jobs that Americans don’t want and get paid less than minimum wage! if we kicked out all the immigrants, would you wash dishes for $2/hr….would you be someone’s housekeeper for $10/day…..would you work a 15 hr day and not get compensated the overtime?????
is it wrong for them to want their children to get an education? hypothetically speaking–wouldn’t you be flooding the public school system if you had 5+ children???? should we stop your from reproducing because you have too many children?
if becoming a citizen wasn’t so difficult, then i’m sure that many would do so and would love to pay taxes and be given the rights that we, as Americans have. who is to say who can and cannot be a citizen???
i’m sure at one point your (great)grandmother/(great)grandfather was ILLEGAL
Well.. I do find it odd that almost everything now is explained in English and spanish. It fustrates me. I dont know why. And Its true what Lattany has said.
Because they come through here later in life, suck up the welfare money, social security and other government programs that they have never paid into, such that we now run the risk of not being able to pay-up to those who have paid into the programs for their entire lives!
Its a big problem.
Being hispanic myself, I understand where both sides are coming from. Mexicans are going through America’s odd cycle to prevent diversity.. even though diversity is what America is founded on. I understand that many of them who do get the chance to have education and jobs slip through the cracks or end up just not caring, but we need to find some way to help them adjust by educating them and creating better jobs (which is hard even for Americans) and stop thinking of them as cheap labor, because they are hard-working people looking to have the life that we take for granted.
I don’t think it’s necessarily Mexicans. It just so happens that the majory of illegal immigrants are Mexican. All we’re trying to do is keep illegal immigrants out and it just happens to make it look like we’re trying to keep Mexicans in general out.
maybe because your country is so hell-bent on security
it’s tradition. we do it to every wave of immigrants. it’s just friendly initiation.
how many mexicans does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
relax people…it’s a joke!
yes yes, let’s panic about all those damn Mexicans coming across the border to work, while the terrorists make their way here safely through, say Canada, or, >GASP< our great “friends” . . . Saudi Arabia!!
But a terrorist did come through Mexico in that mini series Sleeper Cell. So it’s definately possible. But they also get here through JFK and LaGuardia. So . . .
Is it just Mexicans??? I have European friends that have married Americans and it has taken them years to be able to get a green card and legal papers. Meanwhile they have been STUCK in the US unable to work or visit family because of all of the immigration policies. So much for being an accepting nation…
i know!! they keep taking our jobs!! Don’t you hate it when all those American Nannies who are so desperate to work for $3 an hour and be berated by a psycho desperate housewife are passed over for a Mexcian. Or when all those poor American Laborers are ignored after waiting in line to get hired to do farm work, and the farm owners choose Mexicans to labor all day long in the fields! The audacity!
ryc: the boss is her husband.
Um, let’s see. They work too hard, they’re too God-fearing, they are more motivated by need than greed, they want a decent life, they want a decent place to raise their families.
Hmmm….
i dont think we try to keep them out, it’s just that they keep trying to get in, and some resort to getting in illegally..
It’;s kind of like the oldest son in the prodigal story. Why should anyone have our nice stuff? I dont’ know it’s really interesting since most of the people in this country wre immigrants at one point! And probably ostracized and outcast for that matter for a generation or two.
Because they are messing up our health care system, taking jobs from Americans who need them, and even stealing from our schools budgets—with their need for English as a second languge courses that they are provided in our schools.
RYC: I don’t have my camera…my mother accidentaly left w/ it in her car for Florida. She’s back again, and will bring it to me (I hope) tomorrow. Anyway, that’s icky. LMBO! Do you have any idea how mortified I am that my whining, crying, needles and pus of yesterday made FC?????? I’m afraid people will scroll down, see the gross toe nails/feet and think those are MINE!!! EEK!!! THAT post, with the pictures was clearly a better post, had more comments/eprops but didn’t make FC…bwa ha ha ha!!! You with all your entries and Josie with her “Man boobs” (Socal_Sweetie…did you read her post it was HYSTERICAL) of course did.
uhh im not sure were trying that hard.. itsall talk no action
because you can’t let anyone in. either you have laws regulating it for the purpose of letting americans keep jobs, keeping health standards, etc. we let other people come in, but we can’t let everyone if we want to look after our own. mexico should look after it’s own so that they don’t want to come so badly. stefan the dilettante
I’m fine with them being here- LEGALLY. I’m not moving to their country illegally and sending all their money over here and working their jobs without learning their language. I’ve lived in a foreign country, legally, my family and I had to learn the language or have someone with us who spoke it, we didn’t work over there to send the money over here. Same courtesy, please?
I agree with HAZMAT lounge. I live in SoCal and I watch these illegals consistently disobey our laws. For instance, driving without a licence. Or insurance!!! Not Fair!! And one person I know personally does not speak or read ANY English!! Meaning he can not read street signs!!! his pals all think it is hysterically funny. Good luck holding these people responsible for any thing. Who can id them?! I am happy to welcome people who wish to come here and obey the same laws I have to!!
NOT YOU, TOO. We’re NOT trying to keep them OUT… just trying to get them to be here LEGALLY!! Why don’t people GET THAT!?! It’s so beyond me… The United States as we know will not be a sovereign country in 10 years if we keep letting people walk all over us ILLEGALLY… Our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves right now on this issue. And Bush is such a panty waste on this issue…
So what, we should just let them keep comming over here, make US have to keep learning THEIR language? They basicly come here illegally and they just get a free ride while us AMERICANS already LIVING in the country have to ajust to them? Ha, no. Their getting mad cause we’re kicking them out? How would they like it if all us Americans went down there and made them ajust to us?? I’d think they would be pissed too.
And if their such “hard-workers” then why don’t they try and imporve their own country so they don’t have to come here?
We are trying to kep the immigrants out too!
Because of stupid neighbors like mine…
its not because they’re MEXICANS that we don’t let them in the US. Its the fact that Mexico is geographically located NEXT to the US that allows other illegal immigrants aside from Mexicans to pass through the US. Don’t forget there are tons of Cubans coming from the South East jumping ship to get to Florida, I’m sure they’re part of the illegal immigrants too. And, the little known facts of Chinese peruvians passing through, or tons of asians hiding in freight ships to get here. Its an illegal immigrant issue, please dont state the question as as a “mexican” issue. Just so happens that the majority of illegal immigrants are mexican descent. I’m just saying that if you state it as a “mexican” issue, therefore, evolves into a race/ethnic issue, people will lose sight of the issues surrounding all illegal immigrants.
because we couldn’t keep the asians out…and now there’s not enough green cards to hand out! luckily i was born in the us of a.
ALSO: So I’m guessing the Alamo was just a wast of time since we’re just letting them walk over here.
RYC….HAHAHA, if I didn’t include that and she just happened upon my site somehow, she’d beat me senseless. LOL
jobs
I agree with happydeviant: “I think we should definitely regulate anyone crossing our borders in large numbers. It puts a major strain on our economy.
Why should people who were born here, and grew up here lose jobs to someone who isn’t a legal American citizen? Isn’t it bad enough that we outsourse jobs to other countries?”
ryc: Me too! And it’s just getting started!!! There’s some really cool things we’ll be going through…
Racist people
Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor; Your Huddled Masses Yearning to Breathe Free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door…
until now. We’re full. We’re SO full we have to build tall buildings to be able to fit everyone in here, and tall buildings are a bit of a sore spot right now. So the bar’s closed. You ain’t got to go home, but you can’t stay here!
I think some of these comments are accurate… In addition we want the workers but we don’t want to share…pittiful, pathetic
i like their food let them in
To stargazing: So let them (the illegal immigrants) have our (the legal Americans) jobs so we (the legal Americans) are out of work? Humm, sounds un-far to me.
And to bigwill77: We’re (at least I’m) not racist. If their were a bunch of illegal red-necks doing the same thing I would want them gone too.
RYC: Is that any way for a peace loving man of God to act? Although, that bird might be some mighty good eatin.
Fear. Immigrants, both legal and illegal, contribute $90 to $140 BILLION to our government in taxes each year, and 65% of what they make gets put right back into our community. The USA was afraid of the Irish when they came, the Japanese, the Italians, the Puerto Ricans, the African Americans….now it’s the “Mexicans”, which actually include Hondurans, Dominicans, Guatemalans, Bolivians, etc., but they are all “Mexicans” to the average white American. Don’t let fear mongering get the best of you. Look up the facts and figures and see into the heart of this issue which is this: If the USA and NAFTA had not screwed Latin America over so badly in the first place, the poor people from those countries would not HAVE to come here!
I really don’t know.
….and the reason many of them do not have drivers licenses is because they are not ALLOWED to. Even the LEGAL immigrants are not allowed to. That is unfair.
Because Americans are lazy and want to be able to keep their jobs without competition. Reforming and lessening America’s immigration policies and adopting free trade with all nations is best for our long-term economic health.
I think we don’t mind them coming, just as long as they follow the “process”.
Tee hee hee hee! That is hilarious! I’ll join! All feet are ugly….I hate them all…and yah, I’m convinced that anything that YOU do catches on. I think I have to get rid of a blogring in order to join….. the “I hate Bush” that I’m hasn’t been a source of anything fun…..I’ll get rid of that one.
10 million illegals are currentlt causing a drain on our country. They do not pay taxes but they recieve assistance. Texas spends 12 billion dollars a year on these “immigrants”. As you live in in middle America, you do not deal with the stuff my husband and I deal with. My husband works with these individuals – the attitudes he deals with are “I deserve citizenship because it is owed to me.” But they do not even care to try to go thru the system that is set up for those who wish to be citizens. Instead they give employers false idenification aka someone else’s social security number so they can work. At one restaurant my husband worked at they had five employees listed as “Maria” though two of them were male!
Many say they do jobs no one else will do. True. But is this a legitimate reason to pardon those who are here through shady means? When my family came to America, we applied for citizenship and worked hard to gain that priviledge. We did not sneak into a country and then state that we deserve citizenship becuse its owed to us.
They aren’t trying to keep MEXICANS out.. They are trying to keep ILLEGALS out. There are plenty of LEGAL Mexicans just like there are ILLEGALS of other origins.
I just read the little blurb on it…”We support you”…. HYSTERICAL!!!!
ryc: There are four major positions? I’ve read Revelation and a couple of the commentaries I have, but as for any of those books out there on it, I haven’t really read much of anything. So what you read on my site will be completely from my head with a whole lot of Holy Spirit nudging’s…. But I’d love for you to join in and feel free to bring up things that you’ve discovered. Who knows? We may all come out of this study more enlightened!
just the illegal aliens; its a drain on our economy- they receive benefits but don’t pay taxes.
This is a free country and we ourselves used to be immigrants. So, they have every right to come in for now, as long as they follow protocol. After we get so many people in the country, I do think we should limit immigration from all countries, as Australia has done.
Actually, 11 Million have illegally crossed our borders, and as many of your commentors have stated, this causes quite a drain on our medical system, welfare system legal system etc.
not that we are trying to keep them out, just keep illegal ones out! BUt……….. if we are to keep them out, we wont have to worry so much about giving them financial aid. Mexicans coming over will increase unemployment bc they may Not be qualified for work, therefore relying on the govt and our tax dollars for their housing and living. I am not happy about helping to pay for them nor their kids welfare. I think AMERICA should really start closing their doors on immigration. More, that is.
because they’ll eventually overpopulate americans and they take away job opportunities for natural citizens
I think it is because many of us haven’t experienced enough of the same kind of suffering to even comprehend what is going on.
We aren’t. The issues at the heart of the matter are #1 security and #2 contribution. Both issues have been discussed in this post so I do not feel the need to discuss it here. Those who want to enter the U.S. illegally generally wish to reap the benefits of being a U.S. citizen.
The only way to know who is in this country is to have them enter this country at checkpoints. This offers security. If we allow individuals to enter the U.S. through the Mexican without checking their identification, we allow terrorists to enter the U.S. through the Mexican border without checking their identification. U.S. Citizens are required to have their identification checked when they enter and exit the U.S. Additionally, if we identify and number (much like a SS#) these individuals, they are able to pay taxes, get credit, etc. just like a normal citizen. A good way to look at it is this:
If an individual wants to reap benefits similar to those reaped by a U.S. citizen, one must accept being treated as a U.S. citizen (i.e. taxation and entering and exiting the country at checkpoints).
Don’t tell me that immigrants take jobs from U.S. citizens. The jobs that immigrants take are jobs that 90% of American born U.S. citizens will not take: shoveling dung at a mushroom farm, landscaping, carpentry, painting, working for minimum wage at a factory, etc.
Only illegal aliens.
It’s the Mexicans now because that’s the group that is entering the country in large numbers. Other people have said it earlier, no need to go into that. If there was a huge influx of millions of illegal Chinese entering from Canada, the focus would shift to the Chinese.
I need to speak my mind on the issue as a whole though, and thus the following super-long post reply:
Regarding the current issue of Illegal Immigration, we really have two issues to deal with. First is the issue of amnesty to illegal aliens currently living in the United States. Second is the issue of the security of our borders and its effect on our national security as a whole.
The Judiciary Committee’s bill now open for debate in the Senate opens a path to citizenship for at least 11 million people living in the United States illegally. It allows those who were in the US before 2004 to get a temporary work visa, if they pay a $1,000 fine and clear a criminal background check. After six years, they would be eligible for permanent legal residence, if they learn English and pay back taxes and another $1,000 fine.
What we face with this first issue is the conflict between what is idealistic and what is realistic.
Idealistically, an illegal immigrant is exactly what the term sounds like — an immigrant who has entered the country illegally and should be dealt with under the full weight of the law. Anybody who is illegally in this country should be located, arrested and tried — then imprisoned and deported or granted amnesty. In either case, every one of the 11 million illegal aliens should be processed through our criminal justice system.
Realistically though, this is simply not possible — the criminal justice system does not currently have the capability to track down 11 million illegal aliens to process them. Our criminal justice system can’t even handle the violent criminals who are citizens and are “on the grid”. It would take a significant, almost ridiculous increase in the capability of the criminal justice system to handle the location, arrest and trials of 11 million undocumented, “invisible” illegal aliens.
While I personally believe in the Ideal approach, the Ideal approach is an unfeasable one and so we must compromise. This is, after all, the real world. As much as I dislike the idea of foreign people sneaking into our country illegally being granted amnesty not for political asylum but for the fact that our country cannot arrest and try them all; it is a viable solution and does account for a majority of the 11 million mostly undocumented illegal aliens — whose income then becomes taxable, and whose presence now becomes accountable.
Once the 11 million have been brought down to the pre-2004 immigration level, the Department of Justice should then bring the full weight of the law down on the remaining illegal aliens. Amnesty for post-2004 illegal aliens then becomes one handled on a case-by-case basis; with jail time followed by deportation. One of the largest problems is that currently our criminal justice system has no real punishment other than deportation for a foreign national who has illegally entered the country — because there is no real risk of being tried as a criminal, the reward always outweighs the risk and somebody trying to illegally immigrate will try again and again until he or she is successful.
This problem of processing illegal border crossers segues into the second issue of border security.
The current state of our national border security is atrocious.
On a one to ten scale (ten being the highest level) of my confidence in the ability of our government to secure our borders, I would rate our national border security somewhere between a one and a two.
Today, the problem of immigrants crossing our southern border from Mexico is a much larger problem than it was in the past. Not only because of the sheer weight of numbers, but also because of the characteristic makeup of the immigrants who are doing the crossing. In the past, most of the Mexican illegal aliens who came to the United Stateswould be carrying smoked carp in one pocket and a tequila bottle filled with water in the other. Violence was so repugnant to these ‘rancheros’ that, if somebody got into a fight, they would crouch down and lower their eyes.
Now more than 50 percent of the Mexican illegal aliens here come from a new hard-core unemployed group in the barrios of Mexico City. They call them ‘pachuchos.’ And whether in the U.S. or in Mexico, the hard-core unemployed are people who move toward violence.
This violence is spreading like a cancer across cities with a high hispanic population today, and will spread across the United States in years to come. These violent criminals, when they arrive in the United States, bring old gang and narcotics trafficking affilations with them or join existing violent gangs like MS-13 (which is the greatest organized criminal threat in the United States currently). This immigration of violent criminals must be stopped now, with the full force of the law, in order to keep our streets from becoming even more dangerous than they are now.
Our concern should not only be from our southern border with Mexico, but with all our borders.
Recently, a GAO investigation into the security of our borders showed that enough radioactive material to make two “dirty bombs” was able to be smuggled in with incredible ease. Drug runners enter and exit the country every single day with ease. It’s a miracle that half of the population of the United States has not already been killed in a wave of terrorism sneaking through our porous border.
The problem of illegal immigration needs to be dealt with through a two-pronged strategy.
First, internally securing and accounting for the 11 to 20 million illegal aliens by amnesty and then prosecution. Second, by completely securing our borders — and not just our border with Mexico.
National defense strategy relies on taking calculated risks. Unfortunately, the National defense leadership of this country is incompetent. Any national security expert would rank the risk of terrorists passing through our borders with Weapons of Mass Destruction to be used on our cities as being leagues greater than the risk of a rogue state launching a missile at us (and actually hitting something). The ballistic missile shield is a Cold War project that we really should not have resurrected — at least not with the budget limitations that we are constricted by today. The budget for the missile defense system should be completely transferred to a comprehensive national border defense plan.
The duty of securing our borders should pass from being handled by the Department of Justice to being handled primarily by the Department of Defense. Unauthorized entry into the country is not really a matter that internal police should handle — this should fall under military jurisdiction. A one-man invasion still is an invasion. The Department of Defense has a stronger command structure that is more capable of handling border defense with military force.
The solution to securing our borders is to handle border security as an ongoing military operation. AWACS and armed UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) patrols in the sky above our borders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, scanning the ocean and land with a variety of sensor equipment ready to be transmitted to ground or sea-borne interdiction forces. Nobody is going to try and cross our borders if they know they will be shot at by the same kind of UAV that are hunting terrorists in Afghanistan or if they know they will be interdicted by Navy SEALS viewing them as invaders instead of local sheriffs deputies viewing them as nuisances.
Nevermind Iraq’s national security. We have our own problems. We need to get out of Iraq as soon as a withdrawal is feasable. We need to oust the Military-Industrial machine that is siphoning our budget to continue a senseless war in Iraq for their own pockets and taking the rest of the budget to build a ridiculous missile defense shield that doesn’t even work.
This is a problem that needs to be taken care of now.
This border security problem presents a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States and we should act accordingly. Transfer the Iraq war budget to a comprehensive national border security budget. Process all undocumented illegal aliens currently in the United States and either grant them amnesty or jail and deport them. Transfer border security to the Department of Defense and handle border incursions not as nuisances but as direct threats to the national security of the United States itself. Only then will the solution to this problem be executed to completion.
We’re not. If they want to be an American citizen, and go about it the right way, then nobody cares. But sneaking across the border illegally, that’s a different subject.
Being Mexican is not the reason they’re getting kicked out ILLEGAL. Key word.
because we don’t like brown people. and we need something to talk about that covers up the real problems in our country.
bcuz george bush is evil!!
It is more a case of controlling our borders. We need to know who is coming across the border. It also depresses wages in the US. Employers should be forced to pay a resonable wage which will then enable the company to hire US workers or hire mexicans on legal US visas.
Because and only if they are it’s all illegal immigrants! Freedom doesn’t come FREE, if you are going to come here… any nationality, you need to pay your way. taxes, insurance, ect… (even though I believe taxes, insurance and social services are the biggest complaints) pay for your stay and enjoy the land! Illegal immigrants shouldn’t have more rights than legal Americans, only the same rights and the same responsiblities!
Makes it look like people are actually doing something important.
Because of the increasing number of lost jobs in our country, I’d say.
Not to keep Mexicans out, but to keep illegal immigrants. We need to know who is in our country and have the proper information on them. Mexicans just happen to be the most common ones illegally entering the US.

Lots of good comments.
I especially agree with those that pointed out that it’s about “illegal” Mexicans and others. This also has something to do with the fact that we just don’t like having our noses rubbed in the fact that a law is being so flagrantly ignored.
There are different reasons for different people. Some would be more likely to support open borders if we did away with all social welfare programs…even free education. Others think that maybe those “menial” jobs would pay more if the supply of cheap labor wasn’t so great.
For me, the biggest problem is the lack of cultural assimilation and that friction that causes. Coming here is one thing…coming here illegally is another…coming here and demanding that I pay so you can be educated, testing for driving, and provided medical care all in your own specific dialect….that’s where I gotta say “enough”.
Mike
What are these jobs they keep talking about? “We do jobs that most Americans aren’t willing to do”
Not true, they just do the jobs for less pay then Americans. And even if it was true thats no reason to let them stay.
If they leave, 12 MILLION illegal immigrants will leave (or become a legal American), our tax money will go to something WORTH WHILE, and some Americans will have jobs now.
See, its all a GOOD thing them leaving.
A quote from an illegal immigrant: “America will fall apart without us.” We were doing great before they came and we’ll be great if they leave.
Tell me and we’ll both know.
I have absolutely no problem with anyone coming into the USA if it they come legally and LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH!!! I think there should be a stipulation that they CAN NOT GO ON WELFARE OR MEDICAID. Why should we have to support them and their children.
I think we need to make it easier to let immigrants come here legally.
We try to keep them out b/c people here irrationally claim they’re “taking our jobs” (uh, yeah, b/c that was you who was picking fruit out in the fields the other day…. yeah) and b/c they’re poor and we don’t like poor people here.
Are we trying hard? Really? ‘Cause if this is hard, we ought to give up right now. Sheesh.
It’s not that they are Mexican, or hispanic, or whatever. It’s that they are here ILLEGALLY and are for all intents and purposes mooching off of us and have been for years.
I don’t want to keep Hispanics out of the country. I just don’t want illegal immigrants here. This country is so diverse, and it’s not just the Hispanics that would be affected by this–though they are the main reason for it–any race, from any country would be affected.
We aren’t. Its illegal immigrants as a whole that we don’t want here, not mexicans specifically.
Eva.
illegal aliens take jobs we could have
Race always plays a part in everything, it’s what everything boils down to.
Generally, many white people fear colored people aka the minority. The term minority is degrading in itself. Affirmative action and illegal immigration are all topics the majority of white Americans fear, without solely trying to see things through other perspectives. I agree, as an American citizen, that we should know who is in our country. It’s for our general safety. But ever consider how awful it must be for them. The Mexican government is corrupt, and many illegal immigrants are so desperate and determined to make money in any means necessary, even if it does mean breaking a law. Many are just trying to support their families and are doing jobs that ultimately help our economy. Think about the price for fruits and vegetables, undoubtedly those prices will increase once illegal immigrants are out of the picture.
Living in suburb, I find it hypocritical to see some neighbors against illegal immigrants. How else would they have a beautiful yard and landscape without the cheaper labor of illegal immigrants? Surely, the price would double have it not been to their labor. Perhaps America just likes to take advantage of the cheap labor, and if this is the case, why not punish the American businesses that employ them. Sad as it sounds, we do need them as much as they need us.
Out with the Mexicans! And the Jews and Gays too!
OKAY PPL…WE ARENT TRYING TO KEEP MEXICANS OUT OF OUR COUNTRY. BUT THINK ABOUT IT…THEY COME OVER HERE ILLEGALLY!! IS THAT NOT BREAKING THE LAW? AND IF SOMEONE ORIGINALLY FROM AMERICA BREAKS THE LAW……WHAT HAPPENS?? WE GO TO JAIL!! OKAY…WE ARENT TRYING TO KEEP THEM OUT..THEY JUST NEED TO GAIN CITIZENSHIP…ANYTHING GOOD WORTH HAVING IS WORTH WORKING FOR. THEY NEED TO KNOW BASIC ENGLISH AND SOMETHING ABOUT THE U.S. TO HAVE THAT…WHATS SO WRONG WITH THAT? WHY DO WE HAVE TO LEARN SPANISH IF WE CHOOSE NOT TO? THEY ARENT FORCED TO LEARN ENGLISH? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?
We’re only trying to keep out the illegal ones.
Some of us are anyway, others don’t care that they are breaking the law. “Live and let live” they say.
Many people say that illegal immigrants dont pay taxes. But Mexicans do pay taxes. Everyday. It’s called sales tax. I dont understand what the big deal is, personally.
The insecurity. Because the americans are scared for job competitions. (Not all of the americans). But honestly, I dont know what the government is thinking. They need to go to school again.
its not just mexicans, they’re illegal aliens and they come from every single country south of the border including cuba, dominican republic, costa rica. and we are trying to keep them out because they are not americans and alot of them dont even pay taxes and they take jobs from american citizens who do pay taxes. they sould all be shot on site
We really aren’t. I also don’t think we should.
It’s not just Mexican’s; it’s all illegal immigrants.
basically because they are the only ones coming in…we’d gladly pick on tanzanians if they wanted to sail over in large numbers…wouldn’t that be fun for a change of pace. : )
Well, I think because we think that they’re moving to America to get the benefits of our freedom and national aid programs, and then after getting what they want ($ increase), they go back to Mexico. Others say they take all the jobs. Others say it’s just plain ilegal and unfair to those who wait for greencards and actual citizen papers.
honestly? i think it’s because mexicans like to stare at underaged girls and try to “have relationships” with them. and they’re drug dealers too!
because they want to suck all of our money dry and bitch when we try to make them stop. we don’t work to support illegals.
Cuz we’re stupid. If it weren’t for Mexicans, the lettuce in this country would be $10 a head. American citizens won’t work for what Mexicans will work for, and we won’t do the jobs that Mexicans will do.
We are not trying to keep Mexicans out- we are trying to keep out the illegals who mooch off the system!
(((((( GRANDMA HUGS ))))))
Lori
we are racist
Alot of them are here illegally, and should be sent back home. If they want to be here, then follow the law.
ppl are lame adn should NOT comment on this subject if you have nothing intelligent to say
Only some of us are. And because we’re a huge colony of [often illegal] immigrants who enjoy being racist nativists in their spare time? Haha. Half-sarcastic if you missed it..
I have no problem with the hard working legal mexicans. It is the ones that come and like Lattany said. They take from programs that they havent paid into and it limits the social security and such so that people like my Grandpa, who is 74 has to keep a part time job hauling gas so he can pay for my Grandma’s meds and their bills.
because it’s predicted that they will become the majority, population-wise, in about 11 years.
thats a dumb question. we ARE NOT trying hard to keep them out of the country. if we WERE trying hard to keep them out we’d send the troops to the border.
The illegal immigrant issue, as well as an inability to assemalate to American culture, it is very possible for a hispanic to live completely in a hispanic world, and able to survive with no intention of learning english.
From where I live – Mexicans are aboundinig.
i could really care less as long as they dont take all of the jobs especially if theyre illegal
Possilbly because our country is getting too over populated, who knows…
~the world has forsaken me, so i have forsaken the world~
not just mexicans, but all illegal foreigners…i feel their a drag on the economy (to an extent).
Because too few people in this country like good hot sauce! Okay, that was stupid. I stay out of politics for the most part.
Cuz they stole my dad’s job!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh…come off it. There is a reason why the term is ILLEGAL immigrants. I think that a majority of the american public is all for them staying in the country. Just do it legally. Become a citizen. Pay taxes. Just like every one else that is living here. You don’t see people being illegal immigrants in europe do you? No. You people that say it’s just the “republican party” – get over yourself. If we had a democrat in the presidency he would STILL be dealing with this issue also. It has nothing to do with parties…it has to do with the fact that they are here, they are allowed to get on welfare (how that happens is STILL a mystery to me) and to suck dry our country. Then they go back to their own little country living like a king and we are stuck here paying for it. Whatever.
In Conclusion; we are both greedy and selfish mainly. We as in our goverment, transmit to we for our goverments influence swallowed
I am appalled at the rascist, classist (sp?) of my fellow xanga users. We are the “illegal ” ones around here- who brutally took the land from the natives. Sorry, but the American government has broken so many treatys and promises- For myself and my family helping out the many many undoccumented immigrants is an act of civil disobedience.
Ojala que los mexicanos y los otros que no tienen papeles tienen muchos ninos y en tiempo muy cerca los mexicanos somos mas de los gringas.
Better watch out- we’ll take over!
I’m not sure what the case is I’ve noticed the astrocities on Mexican women (in 000s?) in the news but I always thought America had a healthy ratio of latino and spanish-speaking citizens.
Cus they’re flippin everywhere! Lol, jk!
hey! i like saw ur site on the newly updated thang or wutever.. haha so i though i would leave u a comment.. .well bye!
<3 BRiTTaNY <3
Economy, illegal aliens, jobs. These topics give people something to focus on other than rampant political bungling, war (billion dollars a week to help birth another theocracy in which it’s said women’s rights are taking steps backwards), cognitive dissonance, slippery slopes, exaggerated polarities, and corruption that costs us many times more than all the illegal aliens put together ever could.
The fuss over illegal aliens and many other fusses distract from the fact that increasingly, our elected presidents are only from the very rich (today’s royalty) and that there are many questionable changes going on. Right now. Most don’t even appear in major media or if they do, it’s a blip on the radar. Our American forefathers warned against “elected rich/royalty” of one sort or the other, as they did about getting overly involved in foreign affairs.
This isn’t to say that illegal aliens do not pose issues. They do.
Many serious issues exist.
It is to say it’s very interesting to say how things come out, when issues are focused on, how much they are focused on (do they cover some issues ad nauseum instead of fitting in other news), and what is not focused on in the balance, or if it is … how it is presented/articulated/packaged in comparison.
I do have increasing skepticism as to how well the politicians and major media work in tandem. Such things play into supposing “why” we’re supposedly trying to keep illegal aliens out.
Other than those reasons above, American cannot forever remain an all-accepting melting pot. Democracy is neither dependent upon doing so nor should our national identity be bound to it just because it was so in the past.
If we’re going to really do something about illegal aliens, will we handle it well, or will our nation display another “failure of imagination.” What will historical perspective tell us? Why and how are we choosing to focus on illegal aliens now … indeed.
You asked.
america is the land of oppertunity for many outside our country. we should let more become citizens so they can enjoy what we have 2
‘Cuz j’all be hatin’ on me, ese.
Squiddichino!
cause they SUCK and smell and took my job at McDonalds
Because there aren’t enough food stamps for all of us.
I think it is the illegals we are trying to keep out. Illegals is the key word there.
Because our nation was founded upon racism and will continue to be fueled by it.
Because, they use up resources that legal U.S. citizens have been working for their entire lives.
> It’s not because their mexican, its because the way they enter, without registering. We invite emigration and immigration and those are not bad, in and of themselves. But uncontrolled entry is a hazard both for terror defense and economically. If it is allowed to continue, the working enviornment becomes haphazard and wage taxing and therefore government funding becomes inbalanced. Many members of Congress who should be considering a minimum wage increase for its ‘citizens’, as there hasn’t been a wage increase for cost of living in 12 years.
because the last time they were here, there was too much blood from Texas to California.
Um rephrase your question: Why are we trying to keep out ILLEGAL mexicans out?
Also what about canadians?I watch that canadians tried building an underground tunnel from canada in to the us but they got caught.I havent heard nothing else of canada’s border. So why we all are worried about mexicans coming in i wonder how many canadians come in.
we already have people here that need jobs and a good life. it’s not good for the american people to let people from other countries come and take jobs and housing and resources away. it’s not good for america as a whole. the only thing it’s good for is large corporations that make a lot more money when they hire illegal immigrants that they don’t have to pay minimum wage, and shady things like that.
i’m afraid america isn’t very legit or respectable. everyone will sell out. this will only escalate as things get more despirate. the downward spiral is well under way.
the richer are getting richer, and the poorer are getting poorer.

first!
Because we got tired of picking on the Japanese.
If they broke this law – what other laws are they going to brake?
i don’t know
ryc – dan you are our leader…your posts must be ultimately strong!

Being Mexican is not the reason they’re getting kicked out
ILLEGAL. Key word.
because we don’t like brown people. and we need something to talk about that covers up the real problems in our country.
bcuz george bush is evil!!
[ariana]
A quote from an illegal immigrant: “America will fall apart without us.”
We were doing great before they came and we’ll be great if they leave.
Lol, jk!

Squiddichino!
cause they SUCK
and smell
and took my job at McDonalds
