  • Voting

I was watching American Idol the other day with my family.  I never watched this show until a week or two ago.  But now I am kind of interested in it.  My second son was sitting down and watching American Idol and he asked an important question.  He asked, “Have we ever voted on American Idol?”  I thought this would be a good moment to teach my children about democracy.  I told him, “Of course we have never voted on American Idol.  When millions of people vote, your vote is worthless.”

I know there will be those who point to the presidential election of 2000.  But even in Florida, the vote was decided by 500 votes or so.  And who really knows how many votes were never counted.  Even if I lived in Florida in 2000, my vote would have not made one candidate win over the other.

Is voting a waste of time?

  • Xanga School

I have mentioned before that I am pretty much xanga stupid.  I really don’t understand any of the features.  I am not talking about the new features.  I am talking about the features that have been here forever.

I just started to hit the buttons off to the left and I realize I had never hit a few of them before.  I have never archived any files.  I have posted pictures twice but it took a few hours each time.  I see there is some kind of photo manager over there.  I hit that button and it showed every picture I had ever posted including my old profile pic.  (Does anyone miss that as much as me?)

Even at this moment as I type this post I am looking at the buttons that I have never hit in making a post.  (Yes, I just used my first smiley).  I don’t know what most of those other buttons are for.  I do know the spell check button.  I know the copy and paste button.  I know the bold and underline button.  But that is about it.

It got me thinking about xanga school and what xanga grade I was in.  I think I am in xanga first grade.  I have learned enough features to post.  I don’t know most of the others.  I don’t know how to add music.  I know how to add a link but it takes me forever.

Based on your knowledge of xanga, what xanga grade do you think you are in?

  • Immigration Part 2

Why are we trying so hard as a nation to keep Mexicans out of our country?

  • Homework

Do kids today have too much homework?

  • Immigration

Immigration is brewing as a hot topic in our country right now.  We have approximately 11 million illegal Mexicans in our country right now.  There are people that are suggesting a tough approach to this illegal immigration issue.  Some believe that illegal immigration should be a felony instead of a misdemeanor.  Others are suggesting a fence on the boarder.  Still others are suggesting tightening the border with more security on the border.

Others are suggesting a softer approach to the immigration issue.  They are suggesting providing amnesty to the illegal immigrates and providing a way for them to become citizens.  The opponents to this idea are afraid that it rewards illegal activity.

Should the United States provide amnesty to current illegal immigrates in order to get control of the illegal immigration issue?

  • Final Four

We are down to four teams in the Men’s NCAA basketball championship.  The final teams are:

    # 1 LSU

    # 2 UCLA

    # 3 George Mason

    # 4 Florida

Who do you think will win?

  • Terri Schiavo Part 3

About a year ago, Terri Schiavo was in the news.  I wrote a post about it and I want to basically deal with the same issue since it is in the news again.

She is the lady who was considered brain dead by the doctors.  People saw tapes of her on TV moving around a little and they were concerned about her.  Her husband wanted to have her feeding tube removed.  There was a long court battle.  The issue was played out in the public and it also became a political issue.

If you were Terri Schiavo, would you want your feeding tube removed?

  • Condoms

I remember a message coming out in high school that we should practice safe sex.

Are condoms an effective means of birth control for a teenager?

  • Morning-After Pill

Is there a difference between taking the pill as birth control before pregnancy and taking the morning-after pill?

  • Men and Violence

Why are men more likely to be involved in a violent killing than women?
