jes! I always correct someone who calls me a chick.
no.
but being more mature and polite would be nice every once in a while.
oh and I was kidding… i dont see how that is sexist at all.
I do it all the time. But only when there are no other women around other than my wife or daughter.
I dont take it to no offense.
Yeah…
In my opinion, there are other worse words.
For example, I don’t think it is right to say a woman is hot, fine, or sexy.
I mean, they are, but more nicer words are better like Beautiful, Pretty, Gorgeous.
There you have it.
No, it’s not sexist to call a woman a chick. It is, however, sexist to call her a delicious piece of meat with a great set of funbags.
Chicks are small and cute and cuddly ~ what’s wrong with being called one?
Not according to W.C. Fields – My little chick-a-dee.
I call myself and other chicks, chicks. I call guys dudes. Or doods.
LOL, and I agree with silvernicks.
I agree with the above statement. It depends on the context. I don’t think a boss calling a co-worker a “chick” in a serious tone or a joking derogatory way is good. Other than that though I can’t see it as being sexist. Its a very ’80s or early ’90′s word, but I have heard it in a few hip hop songs and not in a bad way.
Eh, it depends on the way you say it. I’d rather be called a “chick” than “girl” or “woman,” especially if it’s being used in place of my name if they don’t know what it is.. and I don’t know what else one would call an adolescent female. >_< But in general, it depends on the way one says it.
it depends on how it’s said
Hello Dan!
I’m an avid reader of your site and I was wondering if you could do something for me.
My site is hosting this Summer “Xanga’s Next Top Model”, and since your site is a very good and popular site, I was wondering, when the winner of XNTM is announced (sometime in June or July), if you would feature her on your site. You could put a picture or two of her and feature an interview with her.
And my other request is this:
I was wondering, in order to trigger viewers, if you would briefly talk about XNTM on May 31st, the day of the premiere.
Please & Thank you!
~Tragick
P.S. Please comment back. Please!
It depends on how well you know her and what your tone is & the context. Are you trying to be sexist? Or is it a general term of affection? Big difference.
No.
If people say yes, they are either too PC or too easily offended, haha.
It depends on the circumstances and how well you know the chick… um, I mean woman.
My dad does it all the time, and he’s not sexist in the least little bit, so it doesn’t bother me.
It depends on who’s saying it. If it’s sexist saying it then yes.
I had this same response about tatoos. Weird (an attractive person with a tatoo is attractive).
no
Please no! It’s a little casual for some people’s taste. Sometimes including myself, but many women are called far worse.
You called a man a “guy”, why would “chick” be anymore sexist?
Nope, I do it all the time and no one has ever been offended by that.
How did the whole thing of calling girls chicks get started.
Nah. Some peeps are just looking for something to ruffle their feathers.
Probably not sexist but certainly not politically correct.
What else would you call a wench?
Depends on how it is used. (joking around with a friend or as a social term from someone you don’t know well.)
I was attending a professional function several years ago. Most of the attendees were men who were with their spouses (many of whom were also professionals). One of the men was announcing the next item on the agenda, which was a panel discussion regarding politics and the free press. He stood and told the men to remain in the room and that the “girls” could exit out to the lobby where a tram was waiting that could take them go shopping, to get their nails fixed or whatever girls do. (This arangement for a tram was strictly because he assumed the “girls” would be bored and wouldn’t want to hear it.) You could see female backs (many as old as 50) bristling and faces turning red with anger all around the room. I quickly stood and jokingly said, “Good Lord, Bob. How big do women get where you come from?” Everyone laughed, Bob got the point and the riot was averted. And, about 60-70% of the women stayed to hear the panel.
Chick? If you are using it in a public arena as a term for women in general, then it is probably not your most respectful choice of words. But if your sweetie is your “chick” and you’re her “rooster”, that’s a whole different usage of the term.
No, I personally don’t like to be called “toots” for some reason though.
not necessarily. it’s not specifically any more sexist than the word “woman” can be, depending on tone.
i dont think it is…not unless someone calling the girl a chick really meant to offend…other than that i think if a woman was to take offense to it is just really sensitive
I don’t find it offensive….but then it takes a LOT to offend me. lol : )

I would say no, but I’m sure someone could mix it around to seem that way (and endup with a shit ton of money at the end of the law suit)
omg no..someone explain to me how it is
ummmm…no.
It all depends on what the definition of “is” is…
Language is an artificial construct; it has the meaning we give it. The meaning you give to a word may not be the meaning that is received. Many people find offense in that term, so I think it is best if we don’t use it publicly, whatever our motives for doing so.
I don’t use it when I want to be taken seriously. But I use it with friends in less formal circumstances.
nope
nope.
No? It doesn’t even matter where you say it. I call males “dudes” and females “chicks” all the time. Chick isn’t offensive unless something else is said, like “Wow, look at that Chick’s “
Eva.
Someone out there is going to get offended. Everyone gets offended by something.
But really, no, it’s not sexist.
I don’t think it is sexist. Not very classy, but not usually sexist.
i think it’s degrading to their value. they become just another chick.
I think it depends on the context of the situation, the individual, and the person doing the… er.. calling of the name. O.o
No! I never thought it was.
Man, anyone who gets upset over the question “is that a guy or a chick?” needs to get a real life. They have way way too much time on their hands.
its not sexiest i dont think or at least i dont use as a sexiest term its just an alternitive but some one might take it offensively
No. but it all depends on who’s saying it to whom, why, where, and all that jazz.
I dunno. What do the chicks think?
No, but there is more meaning to it than just “woman”. It’s more like a non-offensive version of ditz.
No
no wtf?!
It depends on the woman and the environment.
Nah…we call each other chicks all the time
No, but i’ve never called a woman a chick. I don’t really see a reason why you would call a woman a chick, but I don’t think it sexist.
NO…i don’t think so…^^
nope it’s SLANG
well im not a woman so i cant give a real personal opinion. however i definitly dont think it is sexist to call woman chicks, several i know would prefer it. anyone who does consider it sexist is to closed minded and ignorant.

depends on the tone of voice
i believe.
Depends on how it is said, and in what company! It can be derogatory and/or condescending, in certain circumstances. Shiloh is a Hebrew name.
No, but it has ALWAYS bothered me when guys (or girls, for that matter) call girls “chicks”. It’s one of my pet peeves and I think it’s disrespectful, personally.
I used to think it wasn’t a good idea to call girls chicks. Then I realised that all the girls where saying it and a lot of guys. So I tried it out a no one has yet to care.

no people should calm down and not take everything as an insult.
No, I mean, I refer to other girls as chicks.
Depends on context, circumstances.
no
I don’t think so, some people would take it personally though. I guess it depends on the situation.
Don’t call broads ‘chicks.’
Seeing as how we call ourselves and other women ‘chicks’, no. I see nothing wrong being called a chick.

I don’t particulary like it. I will let the person know what my name is when that happens. Same goes for any other ‘name’ such as sweetie, sugar, doll, honey, etc. The men in West Texas are bad about using those terms. I think they aren’t meant to be sexist, but they offend me greatly.
I’ve never thought so…
No, but you have to becareful when you use it.
Because we have no problem kicking sexist pigs in the crotch when we see fit.
No…I’m not offended. But sometimes it just sounds weird or gets on my nerves when my friends say it. thewhoo is right, if we can call guys cocks, then no.
err no, I’m a woman and I call other girls that and myself lol. <3
depends on how you do it, and in what situation. it can be use derisively.

Not at all. I call myself a chick all the time.
I think it is actually cool, makes me feel young again instead of being the old fat hen. I have bigger issues to be concerned about than name calling.
I call women chicks all the time, but then, I’d know….
Dont think so… sometimes they like being called chicks!
Just degrading.
nope- but irreverent!
nope, its cultural.
if a woman was to take offense, it would be considered a “derrogatory” term at worst. however, to call it sexist would be like calling the name “woman” sexist.
no
no..
but tone might influence that…
i like chickadee
well i like ..some thing else but that is a whole different story
a term of en*dear*ment is just that
depends how the guy says chick…in a rude manner than yes!
No, it’s one of my favorite words.
Nah… but I think, like anything, it could be said in a sexist manner.
nope
I don’t particularly like it. But its not sexist.
Rude, yes. Sexist, no.
A resounding “NO!”
I don’t think it is sexist to call a woman a chick but I think it is very degrading? Most women don’t like being called a chick.. I think using their birth name is perfectly fine.
Molly
Not unless you say it in a dirogatory fashion
not if the woman wants to be called a chick
I prefer the term lady but few act like one anymore.
I don’t see an issue here
No. It’s kinda fun. I get more offended when guys end their sentences by calling me “woman.” “Chick” is much more endearing while “woman” in that tone of voice seems to mean “that thing you keep in your kitchen and bedroom.”
When referring to a female, there is no ‘k’ in it.
(OK, that’s my own spelling dictation).
And it all depends on who you’re saying it to and about. I mean, if you called you’re grandma a chic, it would definatly sound like a case of old lady incest.
But that’s just my opinion.
does it matter? people are too sensitive nowadays. all the political correctness is really ridiculous.
no but it can be annoying at times.
Well lets refer to our trusty dictionary that I seem to like so much

A young chicken.

The young of any bird.
It is not sexist but it is slang…Would men like it if we called them roosters?…or even better…cocks?
YES IT IS
YES IT IS
i do it all the time
depends on the context really. like, if you’re a girls superior and you arent familiar with each other, it could be deemed insulting. and calling your female boss a chick would probably get youfired but ingeneral, how could it be? men are called guys, dudes, ect.. it would be a double standard to deeme it sexist, wouldnt it?
No. It’s lame.
personally – i don’t mind being called chick. i hate being called “the missus” though
no. if a guy is hot, we call him a hunk.
Doesn’t bother me.
It could be inappropriate in certain situations, but never sexist.
L,r
Only if the chick takes offense. I take no offense if a woman calls me “dude”! Now if you call her biatch, that’s sexist!
I call girls chicks all the time and I am one. Its like calling males guys or dudes.
well, is it sexist to call a man a stud?
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
Why would you call a female a chick anyways? We’re not a young bird or anything.
Depends on how you are using the term.
[ariana]
No, just annoying.
i think it would depend on how u say it.. if you say it in a derrogatory way then ya. i know a lot of girls who say it.. so its not always derrogatory. but if a guy says it he’s usually referring to the girl more like an object than an actual human being. not always.. but most of the time. then again, a lot of times guys treat girls more like objects anyway.
i believe it’s only insulting when used in a patronizing manner towards a woman (younger or older, though mostly younger) as a means to lower said woman’s status, influence, or value.
agree?
No.
sometimes yeah it’s okay… but i wish it was like how it was back in the like 1800′s and 1900′s when men talked to women to respect instead of treating them like sex objects
for me chick is okay but if you call me someboy’s “old lady” male or female, you’ll be picking yourself up off the ground!
I never thought about it before, but I think it turns women into things, not people.
Think about the context in which the term chick is used. Guys talk in the third person about women, and then a female of the human species doesnt have a name, nor is she a homosapiens, she is, oops, IT is a CHICK.
Chick depersonalizes a person. Look at that chick, I was bangin this chick, that chick was stupid.
Its sexist I suppose, I catch myself and feel stupid to have acted like a frat boy, and even knowing about it wont stop it.
nah
yes…
not if the girl doesn’t mind, but if she does, show some taste and respect and don’t call her a chick
I think if a group can call themselves one thing within their own group, they forfeit the right to prevent others from using those same terms against them.
Meh, I don’t really think so- just slang. If I can call men “dudes” they can call me a “chick.” I could certainly think of worse terms.
No.
> No, for the same reasons stated by #1 n #2. You’re a language victim of the times.
Peace
then lemme be sexist.
heh.
um….no
No unless the woman states that it is offensive to her, but most women IMHO (in my humble opinion) don’t really care..
I would like to say yes, but no, because it has come not to represent a weak, young chicken, but a women. Depends on what context you use it in, I suppose… For example, almost everyone has heard the phrase “cool chick” before. And that doesn’t give me, at least, an image of a weak woman or whatever.
No, some people are just oversensitive.
no lol
nah I don’t think so, but some women take it personal with people they barely know.
i am not sure… lol
Yes!
is it sexist to call you a dick? that sounds like “chick”

depends how the guy says chick…in a rude manner than yes!
Well lets refer to our trusty dictionary that I seem to like so much
wom·an ( P ) Pronunciation Key (wmn)
n. pl. wom·en (wmn)

An adult female human.
chick ( P ) Pronunciation Key (chk)
n.

A young chicken.

The young of any bird.
It is not sexist but it is slang…Would men like it if we called them roosters?…or even better…cocks?
YES IT IS
YES IT IS
i do it all the time
depends on the context really.
like, if you’re a girls superior and you arent familiar with each other, it could be deemed insulting.
and calling your female boss a chick would probably get youfired
but ingeneral, how could it be? men are called guys, dudes, ect.. it would be a double standard to deeme it sexist, wouldnt it?
No. It’s lame.
personally – i don’t mind being called chick. i hate being called “the missus” though
no. if a guy is hot, we call him a hunk.
Girls call themselves chicks… so no.
In Spanish it’s “chica” for girl…

i believe it’s only insulting when used in a patronizing manner towards a woman (younger or older, though mostly younger) as a means to lower said woman’s status, influence, or value.
agree?
No.
sometimes yeah it’s okay… but i wish it was like how it was back in the like 1800′s and 1900′s when men talked to women to respect instead of treating them like sex objects
for me chick is okay but if you call me someboy’s “old lady” male or female, you’ll be picking yourself up off the ground!
