I will, however, say that one time my hamster died, and I prayed over her, and she came back to life. She may have been in shock. But she was stiff and unmoving for a half hour, I prayed for her, and when I opened my eyes, she was up and sitting in her wheel. Any way you look at that, it’s a miracle.
Ok, since we’re Still on this subject, I’m finally going to say what I think instead of being vague & polite… I don’t know what the hamster having or not having a soul has to do with whether or not the manner in which it was killed was cruel or not….. It was cruel period. I did go to the site last night to read the entire post in hopes that there would be some redeeming information that was not in the partial post you put up here, but there wasn’t…… In fact it was even more disturbing in the fact that the when the woman gave in & told her son how she had killed the hamster, that he laughed!!! Although there certainly were more humane ways to deal with the hamster, it’s more the Glib way in which she describes the whole event that disturbs me most…….BTW: I didn’t flame the woman, but again I’m not surprised people did, it was Sick!!!

I honestly don’t know. Ecclesiastes 3:21 says, “For who can prove that the human spirit goes upward and the spirit of animals goes downward into the earth?” If Solomon, the wisest person who ever lived, couldn’t say whether or not animals have souls, then neither, certainly, can I. I will, however, say that one time my hamster died, and I prayed over her, and she came back to life. She may have been in shock. But she was stiff and unmoving for a half hour, I prayed for her, and when I opened my eyes, she was up and sitting in her wheel. Any way you look at that, it’s a miracle.
Ok, since we’re Still on this subject, I’m finally going to say what I think instead of being vague & polite… I don’t know what the hamster having or not having a soul has to do with whether or not the manner in which it was killed was cruel or not….. It was cruel period. I did go to the site last night to read the entire post in hopes that there would be some redeeming information that was not in the partial post you put up here, but there wasn’t…… In fact it was even more disturbing in the fact that the when the woman gave in & told her son how she had killed the hamster, that he laughed!!!
Although there certainly were more humane ways to deal with the hamster, it’s more the Glib way in which she describes the whole event that disturbs me most…….BTW: I didn’t flame the woman, but again I’m not surprised people did, it was Sick!!!

I find it interesting that the definitions provided by Dictionary.com (linky) almost all refer to humans. However, as was mentioned by others, I would probably say yes if you had asked about a dog..and probably even a cat. I guess my answer is just that I don’t know. But I do realize that I am not an authority on this subject (I would pretty much leave that up to God), and would not say that something does NOT have a soul..unless I know for sure. And I don’t, so I can’t say.

I don’t think so, but that doesn’t mean it, like any other animal, should not be treated humanely. I’m not advocating putting animals’ lives above the lives of humans, but we don’t deserve to put our lives ahead of theirs if we can’t treat them humanely… because without that compassion we will have lost what separates us from them in the first place. Like someone else said, we are supposed to be stewards to all that God has given us.
I think anyone who can sit here and say that an animal doesn’t have a soul is a cocky, piece of shit. How can anyone say who does or does not have a soul? What makes you so special that you have this soul, and someone else doesn’t. If anything, animals have more soul than we do. They’re almost perfect.
And why does this all have to relate at all to Jesus? How can someone say animals weren’t made in the image of God? What the hell does that even mean? I rememeber that women who killed her hamster, said that hamsters didn’t have souls. I wonder why she thought they didn’t. It’s just so obvious when dogs are guilty, upset, overjoyed, scared, or glad to see their family again. I’m sure it’s the same way with hampsters, although I’ve never had one. They’ve got cerebrums, right? They have emotions, right? In my mind, that’s a soul. I believe souls are like time or life-force; they are not things that can be seen or taken, but rather conditions and phrases to describe some things that cannot be seen or taken.
