Tom Cruise Part 4
According to Reuters, Tom Cruise is not having his contract renewed with Viacom Inc.’s Paramount Pictures. He has been working with them for 14 years.
Sumner Redstone, Viacom chairman is reported to have said of Cruise “His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount.” Tom Cruise has been criticizing the use of antidepressant drugs. Tom Cruise believes that antidepressant drugs go against his religious views.
Is Tom Cruise being persecuted for his faith?
Comments (224)
No
No, he’s being persecuted for his take on MEDS! The whole world loves to medicate themselves and NO ONE wants to be told it’s wrong!
I got first, lol.
I don’t think he’s being persecuted for his faith, and I also don’ get why his criticism of antidepressants would have him fired…. maybe his couch-jumping or the Suri thing. I dunno. But I don’t think it’s his faith.
no sympathy from moi
Kind of, but that’s the business he chooses to work in.
this is the same thing that happened to howard dean… show too much enthusiasm for something and you’re pegged as a weirdo. heaven forbid we enjoy anything in our lives these days!
I think he’s being persecuted for being an ass-hat.
it depends on how he goes about “criticizing the use of antidepressant drugs”.
if my faith tells me to kill all asians, that doesn’t mean that other people have to be ok with it.
Eh, I don’t care, infact I almost hope he goes broke.
KILL TOM CRUISE!! SAVE KATIE HOLMES!!!
No. He is being persecuted for making bad choices and being emotionally out of control.
Tom Cruise is being persecuted for being a major-league expletive. Lots of people are against psychotropic drugs, for different reasons. Lots of those people haven’t found it necessary to criticize the use of psychotropic drugs in such an arrogant and belligerent way. Plus, Tom Cruise is just a little bit nutso himself.
well its not like he’s gonna believe in anti-depressants…i mean look at that pic…do you think he needs anti-depressants lol…but yes i do believe he’s being persecuted although i dont agree with his beliefs.
He is a great actor, no doubt. But the public decides whether or not a flick is a hit, and Tom’s attitude & actions lately have caused a lot of his “faithful” following to turn aside. In turn, suffering among investors who have supported Tom during his mid-life crises has hit a critical level. It’s all about the bottom line. That being said…what “faith” is there in Scientology anyway? And why on earth would a “man” criticize post pardem depression? And who gets THAT happy & neurotic without either being on meds, or needing to be?!?!?!
I don’t think it’s his faith.
I think it’s his mouth and his actions.
No. There are plenty of other Scientologists in Hollywood who aren’t being persecuted. Tom Cruise is being persecuted because he’s crazy.
Nah, I’d say it’s the fact everyone thinks he’s just a dumbass more than faith.
No… he’s just nuts.
They didn’t say it was because of the antidepressants, did they?
There are a myriad of other possible reasons (although most of them do have to do with his faith).
yes he is and for his opinion which he is entitled to, i think it is rediculous. I don’t believe in or like the use of anti depressants or other “helpful” drugs myself. they are drugs, we have no idea of the long term side effects, 25. 100, 1000 years from now. they are quick fixes. I do however believe that other people have the right to differ in opinion and use them if they feel it helps them. it’s everyone’s own life and own choice, people should not be persecuted for the beliefs religious or otherwise unless they harm themselves or others. abstaining from drugs does not do that, they are not acceptin “the usual” form of “treatment” but they are harming no one.
What if he was catholic and spoke out against birth control? Would he then be persecuted for his faith?
I don’t see how anyone could make it very far in Hollywood if they are too vocal about their beliefs (as long as they aren’t the “right” kind of beliefs, which changes from time to time)…I think Cruise is a nut, but he may be persecuted just a little bit. However, he knows the business, therefore he probably knew the consequences beforehand. And Paramount is a business, so they’re going to look after their best interests first and foremost. I think anyone who was viewed as a bit of a fanatic would get the same treatment.
Shit, give me HALF of what he makes, and you can persecute me in any way you’d like! It’s not like the guy needs to work anyway.
No, his faith just adds to it. but really, they should leave him alone. I think he is just trying to act out for attention.
not unless his faith is the church of the crazy
NO, just that fact that he has become a complete nutjob!!!
He is just crazy..I’ve never been a fan…I don’t find him that amusing..:)
Heck, even I don’t like anti-depressant (or most this’ll-cure-your-illness-but-give-you-other-complications) pharmaceuticals.
And as far as his actions go… he can be a nut if he wants to, because jimmy cracked corn and I don’t care.
Well, you know, the religion he’s following is from Ron Hubbard =_= nobody’s going to take that religion seriously. It’s just as bad as Pastafarianism. LOL
And I have been touched by His Noodly Appendages. Have you? HAHA
So yeah, I don’t think it’s religion per se, which wasn’t taken seriously anyway, but Cruise’s actions that are partially (but safe to assume that not fully) influenced by his absurd beliefs.
No… he’s being persecuted for being an idiot. They are looking at it in a professional manner and he has been less than professional these days.
I duno about his career but his faith is stupid. If we didn’t have anti-depressents then lots of people would commit suicide or sumthing.
No. If the people who employ him don’t approve of his behavior then they don’t have to employ him. But it would make a fun lawsuit,
“Not jumping on couches on TV is against my religion!”
he didnt say he was against those drugs just because they were against his faith…he added a whole lot more to that statement that was more attacking specific people rather than standing up for your faith.
thats a good pic…it has crazy written all over it.
No, I actually don’t believe that it has anything to do with what he chooses to believe in. I think it has more to do with the way in which he conducts himself….
its possible.
no, he can be against it but he doesnt have to make it public and harass someone about the anti-depressants. That is where he went too far! He has a habit of doing that lately
He’d still be a dumb ass even if he were an atheist so no one can say he is being persecuted for his faith. Dumbass=Dumbass no matter what else it comes with.
Does anyone care about Tom Cruise?!!!
TOM CRUISE IS THE DEVIL.
THANKS,
MANAGEMENT.
No matter what you call it, there is just certain behavior that is unacceptable.
I agree with Xcholo4u!! but i wouldn’t mind seeing some more of his movies, and at this point it’s really his choice.
Scientology, scientology, scientology, poor confused people. Look it up on wikipedia then look at what the Bible has to say. It is odd to me that only members who have been in the faith for awhile learn about this Xenu and his part in the origin of Earth as they made it up. Our Bible begins with the creation for anybody to read. The seed that planted my religion began when God created everything, when God came to earth as Jesus, took on the world’s sin, and rose again defeating death in the process, and when disciples spread the good news to everybody willing to hear. Scientology is barely fifty years old, will it stand the test of time? Will it be forgotten like the thousands of cult-esque religions before it?
No, I think its because of the stupid things he does and says. He is really starting to scare me these days. I actually used to like him.
I agree with Jade Orchid.
We should all be used to celebrities going through ‘crazy’ periods, changing religions, and doing things like Tom Cruise does.
Tom Cruise just takes it to a new level.
Anyone notice that the Ballad of Ricky Bobby preview now has the bit about Tom Cruise taken out? He gets on everyone’s asses because he can’t take the critisism.
And, no, he’s not being persecuted because of faith. According to his ‘religion’, it’s not a religion. Because religions aren’t correct. But he’s also getting in people’s faces about his… well, whatever this is. If he kept it quiet, he wouldn’t be so ridiculed. There are other celebrities that are scientologists as well, but they aren’t going around being sassy about it.
No, I don’t think he’s being persecuted at all. I doubt he even feels an inkling of suffering because of the criticism. However I DO think he is living the consequences of being someone who lives in the public eye…
Oh, yeah, and TheUnmaskedAvenger… I’d like to add to your comment that scientology was created by a science fiction writer.
I think I should start a religion.
Yes and no. Personally, I think he needs to shut the fuck up, but well….it’s kind of indirect, but seriously no one should go around saying those kind of things when they help numerous ammounts of people every day. Including myself. I mean, let’s say I was Catholic (hahahaha), I might say to one of my friends “I don’t think having sex before marriage is right” BUT, it’s their choice, and they do not share my faith, so it would be wrong to like rant about it like he did.
well, it kind of seems like it. i’m not sure. if thats how he feels though, whatever happened to freedom of speech in this country?
Tom Cruise is not be “persecuted for his faith.” Cruise is persecuting others, who do not adhere to his faith, because they choose to use accepted medical practices to treat real documented conditions. Apparently Paramount doesn’t want to be associated with someone who uses his fame to trash others for their views and try to force his own on them – so he gets the boot. Sounds fair to me.
I think it’s more of a case that he has become an embarassment to himself and anyone associated with him.
I’d have to agree with everyone else here. He’s not being persecuted for his faith, but rather for his unpopular view on antidepressants. And also for the fact that he’s absoutely crazy and usually acts pretty unstable in public. I’d fire him too. Thank God, LIKE we need to see him in any more movies! I think he’s a horrible actor. But that’s for a different post, I suppose.
Oh, and Building_A_Mystery has the point I was thinking of but couldn’t put into words. Props.
yes but thats the hollywood life u dontget a say if thats all u care about
What a great picture. Oh goodness, that’s the best tribute to his weirdness ever.
He’s not being persecuted for his “faith”; someone is finally standing up to him and saying his behavior will no longer be tolerated. It’s one thing to be involved in a nutjob psuedo religion. This is America, do what you want, worship whatever you want, and that’s just fine and dandy with everyone else. But to criticize a fellow actor for getting help with a problem that has led other women to kill their children is wrong. To say that the very thing that helped her is psuedo science and that she should’ve taken vitamins to help her is not only wrong, it’s dangerous. Of course you’ll never hear about it, but I wonder how many women and children have been seriously hurt by his statements. And seeing the mindless puppet that Katie Holmes has become just makes you wonder what else is going on with this guy. I say good job, Viacom, and watch out Brad Pitt!
all i know is that he is a friggin’ idiot.
and why is his baby still in hiding? does he have something to be embarassed about?!
i think he is, although i feel that he is way off of the wagon for me to give him any form of sympothy with this one. plus, it’s not like he is in a real work environment in which his religious beliefs would mean anything.
It’s hard to beleive that his contract is not being renewed because of an opinion he has expressed. Something else must be going on.
persecution? ever been to sudan? paramount is just watching out for their business interests, and he’s called enough attention to himself already. what’s the big deal? he’s ended marriages for less cause than this, and the studio seems to have been very gracious about letting him do his thing for so long. my boss certainly wouldn’t have kept me on if i’d tried half the crap he’s done!
No, just because he’s stupid.
don’t make me laugh. Tom Cuise is being prosecuted because he’s an idiot.
The man made fun of another person because that person was suffering from depression, and he did this while on national television. It was only a matter of time since people classified him as what he really is
An Ass.
oh and btw: my latest entry is on Tom Cruise….
great minds think alike:)
No.. they have the right to hire who they want
I appreciate his acting,I do not appreciate his views or the method in which he voices them. I do not think he is being persecuted at all ,maybe treated unfairly ,to be persucted is “to oppress or harass with ill-treatment, especially because of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or beliefs”…I think he is being reprimanded for his obnoxious behaviour. I would agree that he was more the persecuter than the persecuted.
antidepressants are being persecuted by tom cruise
Yeah, he kind of is being persecuted for his faith.
Honestly, I think most people are too hard on him.
Also, I think Belegost_the_Naugrim makes a good point.
persecuted? no – i think his lil bit o’ craziness brought it upon himself…
Yeah, about the baby, I’ve heard that it either doesn’t exist (?), or it has like, down-syndrome.
Of course, it’s kind of stupid that people are coming up with things that are “wrong” with the baby just because they don’t want to plaster their newborn all over the cover of People magazine (*cough* Jolie-Pitt *cough*).
I guess that technically, he is being persectued for his religious choices. I don’t know that I feel particularly sorry for him. If his contract had been terminated specifically because he practices Scientology, that would be unacceptable, but it sounds like it’s been his behavior (or lack thereof) that brought this on.
ryc: It was more the situation we were in and the tone of his voice that made it so offensive. It was very patronizing and pretty disrespectful.
I think it has more to do with his jumping on Oprah’s couch acting like a monkey, making out with this girlfriend every time there was a camera pointed at them (you know the one who had his baby not long ago), his weirdo interviews, and his pushing that cult he is mixed up with. I think those are the reasons they wanted to distance themselves from this fruitloop.
No, I think they dropped him because they suspect Katie Holmes was kidnapped and is brainwashed.
Has nothing to do with his religion. Has everything to do with the fact that he’s a frigging lunatic, and has been acting as such. He and Michael Jackson should do lunch in Dubai!
omg
I think its more cause he’s a nut case. Lots of people in Holywood are Scientoloigsts
No…not really…I think he is being dealt with according to the way he acts about his “faith”. If he wants to malign others for not holding his views, well, that is opening a “can of snakes” so to speak…one of them will come back to bite him. I guess one of them did.
Could be. I am not really interested but I love Katie.
Um…No…
…
No. His contract was not renewed because his movies are not making the profits that they should. Money talks, bullshit walks. K?
sort of, it’s a tough question, because he isnt being persecuted for his faith but because his views due to his faith negatively impact his company.
Good lord, no. Not anymore than anyone else in our country.
There is no religious persecution in America. When we become people that are required to follow one religion and risk facing death if we are subversive, then we can talk about persecution.
And besides all that, I somehow don’t see how a supposedly hot, multibillionaire star is being persecuted, even if people are starting to think he’s a little wacked out. But that’s just me.
No…I think it’s for his mouthy, opinionated, and put-down attitude.
No, He’s being held accountable for the things he says and does in public. Apparently, his employer doesn’t share his opinions and it’s their right not to continue to endorse him –or– it could mean they’ve finally figured out the dude sucks as an actor (his “conduct” being his bad acting).
To: all of you who say “Tom Cruise is an idiot or stupid”

Tom Cruise is an A-list, Aceademy Award-nominated, Gloden Globe Award -winning American actor and film producer. He has starred in a number of top-grossing movies and is one of the most successful movie stars in Hollywood, and is probley a billionaire.
What does that make you?
p.s. I stole that from wikipedia, does your life story pop up when you type your name in on the internet?
How do we know the “recent conduct” Paramount is referring to is Tom Cruise’s stance on antidepressants?
No. He’s being persecuted for jumping on Oprah’s couch.
He is being persecuted in a way but he chose to act the way he did. Jumping on couches and telling people they are wrong isn’t what a person with any religious belief should do.
No, he is persecuting others for his faith. seriously, http://www.wikipedia.org/scientology
I know that all faith is based on the absurd, but this is just laughably made up. And the fact that they require donations to ascend to higher levels of the faith, and the fact that they blackmailed IRS employees to recieve a “tax-free” status with them.
Do you watch south park? they do the best job explaining all about it.
no. it’s not that he is against them, it’s that he criticized other celebs for taking them. at least from what I understand. I think it’s also a little beyone that issue also LOL
No, when someone practically bases a faith around a concept like being against antidepressants, they bring it on themselves. If I made a religion that was against flu vaccines, would I be criticized? Yes, and rightly so.
-Jared
sometimes it’s okay to persecute others for their religious views when they are idiots… or insane. i mean you could bring up the same argument for david koresh.
is scientology actually a religion?
i heard that his last 4-5 movies being complete flops had somthin to do with it
Indirectly, yes. They have never had a problem with him being a scientoligist, but they have a problem with one of his viewpoints about harmful drugs that lead to meth addiction and what not.
It just has to do with MONEY!! He cost them a bundle because he is an idiot. People get fired for being idiots. Just nobody reads about it happening to Joe idiot at the Ford plant.
No way. He’s being “persecuted” because he’s a freak.
No…he’s being persecuted for being a jackass.
That’s an interesting perspective on it…I suppose you could say so since you put it in that light.
I had heard about his contract etc but didn’t know the specifics of the behavior…thanks for enlightening me.
His image is heavily damaged. He is a joke. That’s why they don’t want to touch him. Why he is a joke doesn’t really matter.
Not so much being persecuted for his faith he is being persecuted for having an opinion… which is really just as bad.
I don’t really care. I don’t like the recent Paramount movies he’s been in and it’s not like he won’t find other work… I mean… have you SEEN Tom Cruise?
he’s psycho.
thats the problem.
no, they were referring to his…insane actions over Katie Holmes. Maybe to some degree his beliefs, but I mean he was criticizing other people about things that are really happening to them. Who is he to tell a woman with Post-pardum depression that her problem doesn’t exist?
No that would be illegal, he’s being persecuted because he’s a complete nut job which is perfectly okay with me
No. What Tom thinks and does reflects on Paramount Pictures, for good or ill. He has an obligation, therefore, to conduct himself in a manner that will not cast a negitive image upon his employer. If Paramount believes that Tom has not been mindful of this fact and has adversely imapacted the company, they have a right to rid themselves of him. This is common practice and has nothing to do with his religion.
It is not just his position on antidepressant drugs that have resulted in Paramount letting his contract go.

I don’t understand some of these people on here…they say it’s wrong to judge based on religion.. but they are doing the same thing…..So what if he believes in seigentology….U dont’ see him talking bad about other religions and how he is a nut and sientology is bad…it’s not that he is crazy…he just strongly believes in it. so YES I think so
tom cruise is someone i want to shoot in the left testicle. no real reason, other than i want to know, someone only has one testicle.
Yes. He has the right to believe in scientology… not an ancient nor a major religion as Christianity but still a religion. A belief, a way of life.
The stupid religious hypocrits need to get off his ass just bc he voices his opinion. They voice their opinion my directing movies…..they get their voice out one way or another. So what if he jumped on a couch, being silly? So fucken what. What is so bad about a man excited in love? There are far more different acts of weirdness out there than a happy guy who found love, who just so happens to have a different belief than the most of us. Why dont they turn their attention to how P Diddy wears sunglasses at night or how vain Beyonce really is….always pushing herself to be in the middle when she was still in Destiny’s Child.
Now, just bc a white man talked smack to someone else… they are going to “break ties” with him? Thats ridiculous and uncalled for. Morons. Eminem trashes numerous celebs, Kanye West has a few bad words about Oprah, 50 cent is another……. How come “That” side of the celeb world doesnt disown their rapper, singer, or actor?
Its all bc he isnt a Christian, I know it. Damn ppl….let the man say or believe what he wants!!!!!!!!!!!! Just bc a person doesnt think the same way you do doesnt mean he should be revoked of his popularity, power, status, nor connections.
I’ve been reading you for awhile now (unsure how many months) but I must say, that is probably the stupidest question you’ve asked.
People in China, Iran, and Iraq (and other countries) are being persecuted for their faith. Tom Cruise is not. Besides with his money, why should he need to work anymore?
Cruise is nutts, but so are most other actors. Why are they picking on him?
hey, we can’t speak out against the scientologists
they’ll sue us.
they HAD to sue South Park for that, that was one of the best episodes!
“Tom, come out of the closet”
“I-… I’m.. not in here”
He’s being critized because he stands out and stands up for what he believes in. If he were a Christian and he were that passionate he’d get “persecuted,” just as much.
“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians… who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle.”
oh, please…
he is being persecuted for being a dumbass
tom crusie is being pursicuted because of who he is he is popular some people are jelous of it so they want to take the opportunity to degrade him and Ipersonaly dont have a problem with it
I have a different view.
Scientology seems silly to me, but swearing off psychotropic medications…
Anti-depressants SUCK!
So do anti-psychotics.
Nope…he’s an idiot.
Tom Cruise being persecuted because he’s a nutjob!
I think he’s just getting what he truly deserves.
Yes (assuming those really are his religious views and not just his opinion). However, when one takes a strong religious stance, often it results in problem since companies do not want to offend.
no
lol, I don’t know when, where, how etc that Tom spoke about his religion, but I am glad i missed that one. He seemed intelligent enough to know that when you speak your opinions in public, and with conviction, that you will sooner or later be targeted, or at least challenged. Yes, the humans are an opinionated bunch hahahaha.
I guess I was once again wrong, he wasn’t intelligent enough, I guess he thought that all his power and money would save him in his time of need. rtfl….
No. You could say it’s because of his take on meds, but really it’s just because he’s friggin mental.
no, he’s being persecuted cus he’s WEIRD!!
not his faith… hes just an ass now
He’s being persecuted b/c he’s a psycho idiot. Yes, freedom of religion is fine, but when you get to the point of a zealous fanatic, especially for a religion like Scientology which has been shown time and time again to be little more than a money extracting scheme, a line must be drawn somewhere. You can’t just be an asshole and get away with it.
He’s not being persuecuted for his religious beliefs, he’s being persecuted for his condescending attitude to people who don’t share his faith. He acts like he’s the only one that can be right.
Not his “faith”, just his behavior…which has been crazy at times.
Tom Cruise should be on meds! He went all crazy on the Oprah show,…he’s lost what was left of his mind!
Get the man some prozac will ya?
)0(
what’s his religious veiw point? if that makes sense (not likely) then yes, he is…
why would they care about his anti-depression medicine???? he doesn’t seem depressed to me…

The Mental Health Community Responds to Tom Cruise’s Today Show Interview
Recent interviews by actor Tom Cruise about mental illness, such as those on the TODAY Show on June 24, as part of a movie publicity tour, have outraged mental health consumers and family members. We share below NAMI’s response along with the American Psychiatric Association and National Mental Health Association. We encourage individuals to share the statement with others, including local TV and newspaper entertainment editors and movie critics. Please also write letters to editors.
Tom Cruise’s most recent statements are reflected in interviews with the TODAY Show and Entertainment Weekly.
Joint statement of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), and the National Mental Health Association (NMHA).
“While we respect the right of individuals to express their own points of view, they are not entitled to their own facts. Mental illnesses are real medical conditions that affect millions of Americans.
FACT: Over the past five years, the nation has more than doubled its investment in the study of the human brain and behavior, leading to a vastly expanded understanding of postpartum depression, bipolar disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Much of this research has been conducted by the National Institutes of Health and the nation’s leading academic institutions.
FACT: Safe and effective treatments are available and may include talk therapy, medication or a combination of the two. Rigorous, published, peer-reviewed research clearly demonstrates that treatment works.
FACT: Medications can be an important and even life-saving part of a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan. As in other areas of medicine, medications are a safe and effective way to improve the quality of life for millions of Americans who have mental health concerns.
FACT: Mental health is a critical ingredient of overall health. It is unfortunate that in the face of this remarkable scientific and clinical progress that a small number of individuals and groups persist in questioning its legitimacy.
FACT: Mental illnesses are highly treatable and seeking help is a sign of strength.
It is irresponsible for Mr. Cruise to use his movie publicity tour to promote his own ideological views and deter people with mental illness from getting the care they need.
Fight Mental Illness Stigma
Technically, yes. Just because his faith doesn’t concure with the vast majority, doesn’t make it any less valid.
if he was depressed and went goth or something, wow that would be like…wow….lol random thoughts…lol Tom Cruise is crazy
Well, Cruise has been a scientologist, I think, longer than he was with Paramount. I think when they refer to “antics” it’s more about his recent actions involving Kate and prescription drugs.
he should just eat the medicine
…Isn’t he involved with Scientology?
If so, I say, say what you want about him.
He wasn’t fired for being a Scientologist. A number of famous actors are Scientologists and can pick and choose their acting roles. No. He is getting overly emotional and out of control in his public appearances and embarrasing the studio. The public has not responded well to (at least) his last film and the scuttlebut is that a lot of people don’t want to pay money to go see him. Paramont is in the movie business to make a profit. They hire actors to help them make that profit. If you’re an actor who embarrases the movie makers and cuts into the profits, you’re fired. Simple economics.
No, he’s being persecuted for acting like a moron.
:]

THE MORE I THINK OF IT THE FUNNIER THIS POST IS AND THE MORE UNESSARY MY LENGTHY ANSWER WAS…..I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES YOU ARE LAUGHING AND WE DON’T GET IT,SAY IT’S SO!!!!
my anti-depressant is alcholol, so is he dissing that?
i’m a happy drunk
No, I don’t think Faith has anything to do with it.
I think is more for being an immature moron.
no - they just don’t need him jumping up and down on sofas when they send him on interviews. hes a liability these days….you have no idea what he might say or do.
*cough* crazy *cough* for me, It’s kinda hard to take advice from someone who acts like they NEED medication
sry it took me so long to get back to you i was on vacation…. but yeah it was, but i really liked it cuz ppl need to think about tht kind of stuff……………… alot of ppl just take the easy route nowadays when it comes to hard questions like tht and they just give the neutral vage answer tht society likes to push on us nowadays, i just wish your readers would give not just an answer but support also……… they so often just answer and dont think…………. but yeah thts just me….
but to the entry you know hes a celeb……. hes kind of in for critizism……………… but i really cant talk on this one sry im not alltogether yet………
I could understand if he were Muslim or Catholic or something like that–then he might be being persecuted for his faith. But Scientology in my opinion is not a religion. I’ve been to their website, and it’s crazy. A man who wrote sci-fi books for a living invented this. Come on now. Anyways…I don’t think he’s a bad person or anything, but his criticism of antidepressants is just stupid. There are a lot of people that might be dead right now if they hadn’t been on the meds. A few of my friends included. They dropped him because he’s a dumbass, if you ask me, and it’s just now coming to the surface so that everyone can see that. Not because of his faith.
“Tom, come out of the closet. Do I have to come in there and get you?”
“I’m not comin’ out” *walks in*
“Hey, its kinda cozy in here!”
He kinda looks like Ben Stiller in that pick^
or maybe Derek Zoolander
no..its because hes being retarted!!and plus hes probably only being scientology for attention
Not so much his faith, but by his insane antics-couch-jumping, etc. I am glad they let him go-the guy is a looney!
No, but Tom Cruise is just kind of dumb in general.
no, he’s being persecuted because he’s an idiot.
“Tom, come out of the closet. Do I have to come in there and get you?”

haha that episode was awesome.
Tom Cruise has a faith? Is he the guy with the scientology thing? LOL. I don’t think he’s Christian. If he is, he doesn’t act like it.
i think its a little more to it than his faith. it doesnt mean that he has to be overbearing and a jackass. he’s creating a bad image for himself, and viacom ain’t havin’ that
omgosh! you commented me!
thanks
tom cruise isn’t even being persecuted, much less for his faith. his employer disapproves of his actions. its not his faith that they don’t like. Anytime you work somewhere or belong to a group, you represent them. if you act crazy or don’t represent them in a nice light they hav every right to fire you..this wouldn’t be getting so much attention if it wasn’t tum cruise and he was a different religion..
Yes, he certainly is a nut!
Yes!
The only information that I know about this is what you have said. Based on that, I think it’s ridiculous to fire someone for speaking out against something they find immoral. I also don’t see what any of it has to do with religion. I think Tom might have just said that as an excuse for his actions, which would mean that he’s not being punished for his faith, but his opinion, unless of course there’s something in the Bible about not taking anti-depressents.
NO. Tom Cruise is being persecuted for being a closeted homosexual whose pictures do not turn a profit.
No…..he just has created an image for himself that no one is interested in.
Yes. People shouldn’t be judged by their religion unless others are directly affected by it.
Did anyone else besides my mom ever notice that Tom has a snaggle tooth??….At the movies she informs me of this….she is 75 and half deaf so she hollers “look at that snaggle tooth!”….I never noticed…now I can’t help but notice….thanks Ma!
He’s being persecuted for being a nut-job. That’s not a religion, that’s a mental condition. OK, it’s not the technical name for a mental condition, but I don’t know the history of psychology like Tom does, so I’m gonna settle for calling him a nut-job.
Tom’s religion is far different from mine, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t require him to jump on couches and freak out because Brooke Shields takes anti-depressants.
Scientology isn’t a “religion” anyway…because religion is evil. You don’t know the history of religion! I do! That’s why it’s bad! *sigh*
Has nothing to do with being a scientologist. At all. Do you see John Travolta getting axed anywhere?
His conduct is deplorable. His actions overexaggerated. You can speak out against anything you wish… but how many people here can say they would sit back and take being verbally attacked about a personal matter?
Yes, freedom of speech and all that… but how many people can take listening to words that make their blood boil? Fact is, most can’t. That’s the price for freedom of speech.
If I were an employer and had an employee whose actions reflected badly on the company, I would have to let them go. Plain and simple.
If he is then it’s obviously that people can’t HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!! boobah
No, that is NOT the reason for Paramount dumping Cruise. Partly, they dumped him because he was acting nutty as a normal behavior pattern.
Dan please put another topic, Im having a bad evening!
uh – nooooo…. Cruise is alienating movie-goers and his studio doesn’t want to be associated with him anymore. It has nothing to do with his religion.
Maybe he will become a greater hit doing art films for small independants.
no, i think that tom is trying to control everyone else .. trying to make them believe what he believes ..
he is persecuting everyone else .. jerk face ..
wow only two updates today
not forcing for u to make more but this is suprising
I don’t think it has anything to do with his faith, it has to do with his mentality. I am not sure exactly what he said, but if he was specifically bashing people who take anti-depressants, then it may have been in the company’s best interest not to renew his contract simply because he’s causing a scene and might not be looked at so positively by the company’s audience.
However, I do think that the company is violating his freedom of speech.
its more about his failing numbers in MI3 than anything i’d bet…
No, it’s because he’s an insane jerk who can’t act.
So, yeah, I guess he is, in a way.
what goes around comes around… he’s been doing the persecuting… now he’s getting his. I know… that’s not very Christian of me.
No he is being persecuted for insulting what has become a religion to some. The mental health industry
Poor Tom…. Yet, poor Oprah.
Tom Cruise is a moron and has ruined his marketability with the public. Anyone who has ever taken an antidepressant should want to see him strung up by his thumbs. You don’t alienate a blanket group like that without feelings some backlash. Look at the Dixie Chicks – they belittled our president (another moron)and what has happened to them? They can’t book a concert date in 3/4 of the United States. Most radio stations won’t play their newer music, all because of their opinion. Free speech be damned, if you upset a blanket group of people, be prepared to pay the piper.
That being said, Tom Cruise and George W. are both morons. I wish we could get out of our contract with Bush.
No, it is because he is an idiot.
That’s an interesting way to present it, but can anyone really call Scientology a true religion? If I’m correct, no other religions have been formed (supposedly) on a $100 bet. When I lived in Hollywood, I actually knew L. Ron Hubbard’s grandson, and he’d be the first to tell you the whole thing is a sham. From my understanding, Scientology seemed to most people to be another form of social networking, with only a small percentage really believing the “religious” aspect of it.
I say, Scientology has no more religious value than Jonestown. And if Tom Cruise is being “persecuted” for his faith, than maybe so was Jim Jones.
yea, but when you make things like that a huge media issue, it’s no longer about you, but about what’s good for the company & their PR
Tom Cruise is being persecuted for his uncalled-for crazy, is what he’s being persecuted for.
Entirely acceptable.
Faith? No. Being and idiot? Yes.
faith? scientology a religion? what? when did this all happen?
They’re probably just worried about a long term relationship with a member of a non government certified “religious” orginization. If something bad happends to tom, katie, their kid, or anything related to scientology, it shines bad on them.
he’s being persecuted for being clinically crazy. and its about damn time.
The guy’s one of Hollywood’s richest men, so I think he’s going to be ok. But it is a business first, and I think he’s becomming a bit too predictable with his movies (they mostly suck) and eratic with his antics with the papparazzi. He’s too much of a dangerous investment.
’nuff said….
Leave Tom alone. That’s all I’ll say.
Sorry, I still love him.–Everybody has faults and no one is perfect.
Yes, and rightfully so. Your employer, your landlord, and the state, should all have the right to punish you for not being in the correct religion.
Umm, I think its cause he has been acting a bit on the strange side, and Paramount wants some distance from that.
tom cruise is not being persecuted for anything. they probably just don’t like the fact that he has completely lost his mind.
Not in my opinion…The man has some srews loose, if anyone needs drugs, it`s him.
He does not have the one true faith, faith which is Christian. Therefore, although he may be being persurcuted for his faith is some fashion, I would not bash the judgement of Paramount.
Pax,
Jared
No he is being persicuted b/c he is an idiot- without anit-depressents i would not be all that i could- i would always have thi mental block
Tom Cruise is a crazy nut that believes in Scientology which is totally ridiculous. The guy needs anti depression drugs for himself.
why doesn’t everyone just SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT TOM CRUISE, HE’S RIGHT and all you fucking bible thumpers are JUST PISSED OFF BECAUSE HE DOESN’T THROW HIS MONEY AT YOUR LOCAL CHURCH TO HELP IN THE HUMAN SACRAFICES.
AND I FUCKING LOVE HOW PEOPLE CALL TOM CRUISE A NUT CASE WHEN YOU ARE THE ONES WASTING YOUR LIVES AND BEING CONTROLLED BY A FUCKING BOOK! PEOPLE LIKE TO FUCKING PISS ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT THE GOVERNMENT MADE UP RELIGION TO KEEP THIS COUNTRY IN ORDER! ASK YOURSELF? WHY IS THAT CLICHE PHRASE ON EVERY SINGLE PEICE OF SHIT MONEY THAT THE GOVERNMENT MAKES! AND EVERYTHING HAS TO DEAL WITH RELIGION JUST LOOK AT OUR PRESIDENT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! THE BIBLE IS A HOAX AND THE FACT THAT IT PUSHED WORDS LIKE “FAITH” INTO YOUR HEAD SO YOULL DIE “PEACFULLY” THINKING YOURE MEETING THIS MAN YOU DEVOTED YOUR LIFE TO HAHAHAHA FUCK YOU ALLL
Scientology is barely fifty years old, will it stand the test of time? Will it be forgotten like the thousands of cult-esque religions before it?
Posted 8/23/2006 at 12:47 PM by TheUnmaskedAvenger
No it won’t
(meaning it won’t stand the test of time)
Its not like anyone tried stuffing drugs down Tom Cruise’s throat, so why does he feel like he gets to talk about other people’s problems? i think he tries to be controversial so he gets attention and people go see his movies. if you believe the tabloids, his whole romance with Katie and them having the baby is a publicity stunt, too. i just wonder if its something in the water. somewhat normal people go to Hollywood, and they turn out nuts.
No. He’s persecuting others for not having his faith.
I am a Jehovah’s witness. I know religious persecution when I see it. Hitler put us in his deathcamps for not signing his loyalty oath. Tom’s religion is what? Christian Science? What horrors have they ever suffered? Their primary prophet was a science fiction writer. They believe in Dianetics. Maybe our society could torture them by making them read and understand their rather unique Bible by L. Ron Hubbard. Eeuw! The Horror!
No. Duh…he’s being persecuted for acting like a total jackass recently <_<
no, he’s being persecuted for his judgmental approach toward conversion to his faith.
Is there such a thing as being persecuted for being an idiot?
He is being persecuted for his beliefs. He is entitled to his beliefs, and ought to be free from threats for speaking them. He is un-PC on this issue, because he knows different than what we are “supposed to” believe.
tom cruise is a stuck up snob that thinks hes better than everyone else
its npt like he needs to work for paramount
he has enuf money to pay for 1000 people to retire and live in mansions
if ya askme, hes getting what he deserves
He’s just crazy.
NO. He’s being fired because he’s a complete mental case.
I think it’s because he’s a jerk. I have no Idea what happened. I use to like his movies, but he creeps me out now.
I believe the correct psychiatric term is that his butter has slipped off his noodles
Scientology isn’t a religion. It’s a business designed entirely for the purposes of making money.
no he just needs a straight jacket
oh wow, i know ppl realy dont talk about this in cafe’s
Scientology isn’t a faith, it’s a pyramid scheme
Well I agree with Paramount Pictures. Tom Cruise has been making the company look bad ever since the jumping on Oprah’s couch incident. Besides, Tom Cruise is so rich and popular that some other company will hire him. It’s bound to happen.
no, he’s just a fruitcake now that he’s with katie holmes anyways
I wish people would stop using the word “persecuted,” Tom is not being persecuted for anything. He is the object of a business decision. Nothing more.
No, he’s being fired for being an idiot, not a Scientologist, though they might be one and the same.
http://www.savetheinternet.com/=senatemap – read it.
Well, the newspaper in my area said the end of his contract with Paramount was also because of his behavior (i.e. jumping on the couch on Oprah’s show, his aggressive advocation of scientology, etc) and it all led to $150 million in lost ticket sales for the studio in making MI3. So, it’s not just because of his dislike of pills. Honestly, I think he’s having a midlife crisis.
i think that you have made a “connection” to people here that doesn’t exist.
?
i agree with thethirdwoman. But knowing the man he is, I’m sure his faith will lead him into further prosperity. I mean we all have rough times, and he’ll make it through all right. with or without meds.
no, its not just b/c of the antidepressant issue, he has been acting totally outragous and if i were in charge of Paramont i would’ve fired him long ago. it sickens me when people toss around things like ‘religious persicution’ without thinking of the millions who actually were persicuted for their faith (ever heard of the Inquisition or Holocaust, neone?)
No…just for the fact he’s become a self-righteous jerk.
He’s in love
everybody shut up. Love makes you do crazy things. Right?
