  • Yeah.

  • A little. But it’s sure great to be number 4!

  • wow, five. intense

  • Yes, sir.

Same with “bitch” or “cunt”.  Girls, if you call each other bitches and cunts all the time, don’t act like someone jammed a tree up your ass when boys call you the same.

  • no.. it’s something that all the races do amongst themselves

  • Not really. Plus they use “Nigga” not “Nigger”…there is a difference. As I’m sure everybody who knows me knows, my favorite music is Rap…and Tupac is what I listen to 99.9% of the time. He says “nigga” a lot and not in an insulting or derrogatory way. It’s just like when I say “homie”…if you were to say that, it would just sound weird to me because that’s not how you talk normally. But if one of my friends said it to me I probably wouldn’t even notice because I hear it so often. You know? Sure you do.

  • Yes – it pisses me off

  • I find it odd that they do that, but I’m not annoyed.  Nor am I jealous that I can’t do the same.

  • I don’t care about this “in-group, out-group” shit.  If someone says something to you and it’s meant to be insulting, yeah you can be insulted.  But if someone in the “out-group” says a word in a joking manner that you throw around all the time with your “in-group”, grow the fuck up and get a sense of humour.

  • Nah, it’s a race thing. Asians call each other yellow stick and would probably get offended if a race outside of them would call them that. It’s only fair.

  • yes… and why is it not being racist if in class a black kid calls white kid ‘white’ but it is if the white kid calls the black kid ‘black’ then it is considered racist?

  • if my previous comment doesn’t say so yes, absolutely.

  • No… That is there right.. Thanks for stopping by my site and leaving a comment..

    Blessings,

    kim

  • Yeah…but I’ve asked some black people why thats acceptable. They say becasue they are one, too technically so its not exactly an offense, its more like a brotherly term (o_0). So…I guess its ok for them.
But, if I was black and somone else called me that I think I would be really upset. Because they’re not that.

  • Yes, it is annoying.

Just like when they call you a cracker they expect you to not freak out, but if you would call them the n-word imagine what their reaction would be.

  • yeah. but that’s just our culture’s good ol’ double standard again…

  • but black people can call other blacks, especially those who are close to them, “nig,” “nigga” whatever because they are all of one ethnicity. it’s just like one chinese person calling another chinese a “chink” or a mexican calling another mexican a “wetback.” people of one ethnicity are more tolerable when their own people call one another a name because they understand that the name is not deliberately used to cause harm. if someone of another ethnicity calls a chinese person a “chink,” then the chinese person may feel offended because “chink” is seen as a racial slur when said by somebody who is not chinese. people sometimes tend to confuse or misinterpret a racial slur, thinking that it is okay to use it so freely and openly, without thinking of the consequences that may follow.

  • Fo sho.

They should have a cow either way.

  • yes and no, the black people that I grew up w/ (in evanston, il just north of chicago) it doesn’t bother me… they don’t see me as white nor do I see them as black we are all just people, thou where I live in louisville, ky the black people seem to be much different (i’m grouping so obviously there are people who don’t, i’m just generalizing) they tend to look at me like I’m a white girl and there for not to be included in “whatever”

so my white friends and I have started refering to our other white friends a crackers… so its all good…

  • a little

it’s the same way with chink tho.

although for some reason i think that chink is easier to say then the n word. mayb it’s cuz i’m asian?

    haha who knows?

i was never taught that chink was a bad word tho.

  • The thing that annoys me the most is how Hispanics are allowed to use the word “nigga” in their rap songs. I’ve heard Asians aren’t allowed use that word in their rap songs “because they haven’t suffered discrimination” like Hispanics and Blacks. Maybe you ought to make this topic number 4.

  • I think it’s absolutely hilarious.. probably because I’m black. You know what else? Blacks can offend mexicans too but if white people do it, they’ll jump on ‘em and beat their ass up.

    I think it’s absolutely hilarious.

  • No, I can’t control them, why should I care at all? If I get bent out of shape about it, I’m just one of those dumb uptight white people we all know about.

I don’t use the word to describe anyone, even when I am angry. I wont use a word that accentuates the most trivial of physical differences.

Except those large large penises. Those are NO JOKE! Trust me, I learned from experience.

  • ALL YOU WHITE PEOPLE SHOULD STFU BECAUSE YOU GUYS RUN SOCIETY ANYWAY AND BASICALLY HAVE BEEN SINCE 1492 SO GET OVER IT AND LET THE BLACK PEOPLE CALL EACH OTHER WHATEVER THEY WANT.

  • Dunno. I do get tired of people calling me white when it’s not necessary to say so. “Hey white boy” without being able to say “hey black girl” is annoying.

  • I have always thought the word was vulgar (no matter who uses it).  I have realized it’s a sign of no class (no matter what color the person is who uses it).

  • It depends… I guess I can understand them getting mad when someone uses the ending “-er” with it instead of “a”. Because they call each other with the “a”, but most other people tend to use the “-er”, not really seeing that there is a difference.

But there is DEFINITELY a difference between the two

  • it bothers me that they use it, yes, but not because they would not allow me to use it.  it is more an issue of how it seems to represent a failure of vocabulary.  also, i still hear it as a racial slur, even when used by one black person towards another, and this makes me wonder about their own motivations behind using the word.  whether or not it is meant this way, i hear it as a self-put-down.

  • The question is, is it racist of black people to be offended by a white person saying it and not to be offended by another black person saying it?

I wish someone would hurry up and make a word for white people that was actually offensive. I feel left out, because us whites don’t have any words of our own that other races can’t say.

  • somewhat… but whatever, i couldn’t make myself call them that…
only unless i needed to perform on stage… then maybe.
i have a set of morals that i won’t dare cross. that’s one of them

  • that’s a double standard. I don’t really care though as I probably wouldn’t call a black peron that anyway…can’t get in trouble for something you don’t do.

  • Yes….but only because it’s such an ugly word…I’ve been raised not to use it so I cringe when anyone else does!

  • yes thats why i avoid sayin it all together because what it means and the horrible memories of americas past its like when ppl say it they are spittin in the face of what civil rights leaders worked so hard to accomplish its just disrespectfull either way

  • yeah, and yet anyone can call a white a “honkey”, “cracker, ” gringo,” or many other terms and he can’t say a word. It’s like every race is allowed to be racist but white, same as every religion is allowed to be intolerant or exclusive or even just expressive but Christians.

  • Not really…..  but I don’t think they should have a cow if it’s not said as an intended insult no matter who says it.

  • I think I’d have a cow either way. Some people call it a “joke,” but it’s not funny.

  • Not at all, I don’t give a shit what people get offened about. And “nigga and nigger” are different supposedly.

I guess it could be like one fat guy calling his other fat friend fat, then having a skinny guy doing it could be offensive? I don’t know.

But no, it doesn’t annoy me.

  • I think us white folk should call each other Whitey, Honky, or Cracker and get pissed when black people call us that.

  • yes… slightly double standard…

  • Well, I wouldn’t have a cow, but I’d beat the shit out of the person. How’s that?
I don’t think it’s cool either way. I don’t like to call anyone by the N-Word, and I’ll practically have a fit if ANYONE does it.

  • i don’t find it annoying at all….  i can easily say that i am a “cracker,” so i don’t take offense or anything when african americans call themselves that….  some comedians (chris rock and eddy murphy…oh, and lets not forget about richard pryor) are totally funny when they are telling their jokes and whatnot….  i laugh my butt off on a good joke like that….i just don’t like to hear “black” jokes or “racial” jokes when told, usually, by someone with a different ethnicity….

    take care…

  • Nahh… it’s their form of expression, the same with any different race.

  • it bugs me more that its acceptable for them to call me cracker or whatever but not for me to call them the “n” word

  • No. I call my friends honky all the time.

  • Hell yeah!!

  • yes.

  • Yeah, a little…but I really have no right over what they say. I mean, my friends and I half-joke around calling each other “yellow” or whatever. But at the same time, I find it a tad bit hypocritical if the rest of the world (that is outside your ethnicity) will offend you if they called you that. I think we should just stop calling each other names altogether.

  • Nobody should use the N word.

  • No. You always use temrs with people you’re comfortable with that you would never allow others to use with them. It’s like you call your girlfriends “the girls” or “chicks” but if some dude called them that you’d be pissed.

  • Yes. I would never use that word anyway, but the double standard bugs me.

  • Somebody wake me up when there’s something to talk about.

  • well, being black, i would say it’s a cultural thing. If it’s not your culture, it’s not your thing. Simple put.

  • Yes.  Not that I would use the “n” word, since I have no use for it, but I do believe it is a double standard.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

actually… because of this… i use it as much as possible =D

  • actually… i think its funny that you refer to it as the “n-word” as though its something to fear saying… when the point of the topic is how ridiculous it is that you “cant” say it…

    nigger

see… it wasnt hard… now its your turn

  • No,I  try not to get bothered by to much,it is NOT worth it,

  • Dan,I enjoyed the counting post,it was fun.

  • why is everyone annoyed? we are not talking to you. it’s it is a cultral thing. wether it’s ethnicity or hip hop. are you black? are you a part of the hip hop culture? we say my nigg or nigga like homie… it is not the same thing as nigger which is rooted in hatred and slavery for hundreds of years. our ancestors were hung, beatened, raped, murdered, taken out of their country by force, familes split up … our families as a whole hundreds of years later still feel that pain and disfunction so we are gonna be pissed if we hear you say the N-word.

  • Like my new profile pic?I am now a ‘Liberty call Girl’,pretty spiffy!

  • yea. its like, they can call themselves that, and they can call white people crackers but on no, call some one that and you’re in some deep shit.

  • Nigger. There, I said it. Deal with it.

  • It annoys me a lot. To be honest, I don’t get offended when they call me cracker. It’s just a name. You choose to be offended. So that’s why it pisses me off when they get all angry.

  • Yes very much.  Here we have the K.. word.  Thankfully I have not heard any race use it affectionately.

  • okaaaaay. i don’t use it-never really felt compelled to.
but, it’s kind of like this at it’s worst: you may call your siblings all kind of names, but you’d be damned if some outsider came in and did the same. it’s an insider kind of thing and I don’t fully get it(like I said i don’t use it)but that’s my understanding.

  • yes. But I have been called that word by people who are black and I am white as a term of friendship…

  • Gotta love double standards.

Not to mention that it’s a disgusting word anyway, and like I think someone else mentioned, shows no class and makes them look incredibly ignorant.

  • Haha, I do it anyway!

    Take that niggas!!

  • No, not really. I’m not inclined to use that word anyhow.

  • yes.

  • Not really, I only hear it in the occasional song over the radio and I can always turn down the volume. Since it is often used in a brotherly manner, then it isn’t really too offensive. If I were to use it I might get a couple of strange looks, because slavery and segragation is over. Wasn’t it in Rush Hour or it’s sequel that they made a joke of that word’s popular use?

  • double standards for everything….

  • “yes… and why is it not being racist if in class a black kid calls white kid ‘white’ but it is if the white kid calls the black kid ‘black’ then it is considered racist?”
    Thank you, britishattitude91.

  • yess, so much!! && they can call us crackers and honkies all they want and we dont really care!!

  • oh my goodness yes!

  • A Chinese saying goes, “Only when you have insulted yourself first, will others start insulting you.”

I think that applies here. There are better, less offensive “brotherly” terms… so why not use them? And what’s wrong with calling each others’ names, that makes us resort to such gross generalization?

The Chinese do not often call each other “Yellow sticks”, unless they are really initmate friends. “Chinks” is only a term coined by Hollywood, no self-respecting Chinese would call themselves that.

  • I’ve never really given that much thought.  As a rule, I simply don’t like referring to people in derogatory words or phrases, so I never use it.  However, I do know that black people feel that word is something that was used to make them feel less than human or worthy back in the slave days, so to hear anyone not  African-American use it takes them back to that mindset.  I don’t understand why they call each other that, given the word’s history, but what can you do?

ryc: lol, pirates are big this year, what can I say.  But it’s sure to die down after Halloween.

  • Not really, all my black friends are my niggas haha, where I live, it’s a very common trend now (with young people) to refer to their black and white friends as their “niggas” and in the past couple of years I haven’t heard anyone get mad about it, but people usually establish a comfort with someone before testing it out.

  • Well….I am black and I even get upset if another black person calls me the n word. So………
Why do you assume all your readers are white?

  • Yes. So hypocritical.

  • RYC: Wrong about my comment here or my entry there? Either way, I wouldn’t be the least bit offended if you weren’t just kidding. :) I don’t mind people disagreeing honestly.

  • it not only annoys me, but it makes me pity them. Their grandparents, great-grandparents, etc had to fight so hard to come so far only to be turned on by their own blood. They are rolling in their grave that’s for sure. And for the youngun’s that think the word doesn’t mean anything…come to the south. It’s alive and well.

  • Nigga/Nigger comes from the spanish word negro, which was used to decribe the skin tone of Africans. Negro means black. If I called my fellow white people blancos (because blanco is spannish for white) or blankers (in order to slur the word) should that offend black people? Should it offend white people if black people use it?

  • Yes, it does annoy me. I hate people who hold double standards.

  • No. And I don’t think non-black people have the right to be annoyed about that, either. What do they want, to be able to call someone the N-word? They want the right to be hateful? I think it’s up to black people themselves how they address each other and how they would want to be addressed. Although, I don’t think it’s good that black people call each other that, and as far as I know not every black person is quite kosher with that, either.

  • Not really. I am used to it.

  • Definitely! I think it’s very strange….

  • Yeah, it’s annoying. Honestly, though, it’s not an annoyance I spend a good deal of time agonizing over.  I do agree with Jill… it’s like girls who call each other bitches, but flip out if a guy dares to use that word. No different.

So it’s an annoyance, I guess…. but nothing more than that. Just the way it is, double standard or not.

  • nigga and nigger are not the same … they don’t have the same meaning. you are commenting on things you don’t understand … ignorance … that is annoying!

we don’t call each other nigger … get that straight. why do you care what we call each other? nigga is a slang term we used amongst our close friends (no matter what race) as a term of endearment. there are slangs in every culture and ethnicity.

  • No, some are just referrin’ to their decendants trials and tribulations as a form of self expression. As a caucasian american i reeeeeaaaallly find that word offensive and have actually smacked a couple of people for usin’ it. Irregardless of skin tone we are all people and should be treated as equals, ahem, ahem, hear me people in the south who still live back in the “good ole days”

  • I just think it’s silly. whatever.

  • I would never say that word seriously.

  • Yes. A racial slur is a racial slur, no matter who it comes from.

  • It depends on the context. If a white person said it to them without meaning any harm, then it is annoying. But if a white person says it to insult them, then they have reason to have a cow over it, even though they say it all the time with their friends (because their friends know they are not meaning it in a negative way)

Even though white people say it all the time, too. Psh, everyone in my school says it. “hey niggah, what class do you have next?” “let’s go out to the diner after school niggah”. Everyone just throws it around, but no one cares.

  • Of course! I mean, how retarded is that?

  • Oh, you betcha. If it’s a hateful word, they must hate each other as well. I resent it like hell.

  • Yes its soo annoying. Thats why… I STILL say it.

  • yeah, just don’t call eachother that, jeez.

  • why’s it okay when people call white people disparaging names like cracker and stuff, i don’t think it’s cool

  • i don’t agree with it’s use in any sense…but when we (black people) use it, it’s in an entirely different context..the equivalent of a white person saying what’s up dude to another white person..i don’t think it’s right…but it is what it is and white people should respect the fact that black people don’t appreciate being called that by a non-black person..it is what it is

  • Yeah, it bugs me that anyone says it.

  • I think African Americans who use the N-word to refer to one another while denouncing whites who would dare to use it, do nothing but live up to the unfair stereotypes perpertrated by the N-word.

And why is everyone afraid to say “nigger” when that is the word being discussed?

  • Some people on here are saying that they don’t see anything wrong with using it, who we to judge?  Well, thousands and thousands of men died over this issue and all issues related during the civil war.  I’d say that’s as good a reason as any.

  • I believe there’s a difference. Black people believe calling each other nigga, as in brother. Nigger is an offensive term.

  • It’s rather simple, really. They call me a ‘cracka’ or a ‘nigga’, I say it right back to their faces and watch em light up like a roman candle.
If it’s so racialy offensive, then how come it’s part of their modern (Commonly used) vocabulary?

  • YES! It’s disrespectful and trashy for them to use a word toward each other that they’d find offensive if some other race was to use it. It’s a negative word. No matter what or who is using it.

  • It does indeed.

I am not a racist at all.  My friends are very ethinically diverse and we all get along just great.  None of us ever make rude/racial comments toward each other because of our friendship and respect.

So does that mean that African Americans have no respect for each other because they insult their fellows and themselves?

Who knows.  But it annoys me when someone who is racist towards themselves gets mad when other people tend to lose respect for them.

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!!  I just don’t get how and why the use to the word “nigger” or “nigga” can get everyone’s panties in a bunch. I don’t think there is a single word that can offend white people as much as the “N-word” does a black person….I think it’s silly and ridiculous!

  • I find it a bit weird, but normally it doesn’t bother me too much.

  • Why should it bother me?    I can call my friends Fat Tony, Jimmy Two Times, Vinny ‘bag-o-donuts’, and others Guineas, whops, dagos, etc.     Of course, I am one so it’s cool.     Don’t let the mulignans calls us thost things though!

  • I think it’s very odd that they use a derogatory term for each other that they would not allow others of a different race to use toward them – isn’t that a double standard?  Doesn’t that inherently lower their own self-view, to use it amongst themselves?

  • I’m white and sometimes i call my brother “nig”. But I would never call a black person that. They might shoot me.

  • nigger is the bad word to say. thats like what racists say. nigga is alright to say. but only black people can say it. a white person saying “nigga” is like a black person saying “dude”, it just doesnt sound right.

  • It’s really F***ng  annoying.

  • nobody should use it, it makes them look stupid no matter what race they are.
    its fucking annoying either way.

  • Yes, I think it just downgrades them. They think it’s so cool to walk up to each other and say”wazup my ni…” and yet they don’t see themselves teaching their children that word when they do it.I was just wondering if it was to happen at school, would a “white” boy get sent to the office for saying it…what do they  do with a “black” boy?  :S

  • Yes, it does bother me.  There seems to be a double standard in soceity.

  • this actually happened to me yesturday. there were two black women and i talking at work about various things non-work related and here we started talking about cute people and one said something kind of like, “and that nigga was all my type wanted some of that…” and it shocked me causei though maybe i wasn’t suppose to be in on that conversation at all. it actually confused me more than anything.

  • Yes, if it is bad, then it is bad.  Don’t give me the double standard BS.

  • Absolutely!Allthough I would never use the word myself. I just find it extremely hypocritical that blacks use it in reference to each other.

  • infinitely more than i can say.  if we’re going to be fair and have equality, there shouldn’t be a double standard.

  • Yes.

  • it drives me to a mere edge… i dont get it.. untill i ask someone about it thouroughly.. it’ll still bother me.

  • Nope, I don’t use the “N” word, and don’t care to. I don’t care if other people choose to use it.

  • Wow BitterSunday… makes me really angry.

  • Yes. I don’t understand how them calling themselves that is any different than white people calling them that.

  • Yes it does….

I don’t like the word at all. At my school, everyone gets in trouble for saying the “N-Word” regardless of their race. The word was originally meant for an racial insult.

    <3

  • yes and no…I dont like the word. It doesn’t bother me that I am not allowed to use it…just the word itself bothers me.

  • Eh, sometimes. They go on about how it’s so offensive, and I agree that it is, but then they use it in every day conversations.. I don’t know.

  • No, I don’t use that word and I don’t like it when other black people use it. I don’t use it because I want to show people that the N word shouldn’t be used at all. However, it’s me against the world. If I were president, I’d make using that word illegal. This reminds me of my Spanish class yesterday. We were doing colors that day and the spanish word for black or “negro” came up. Immediately people started shouting out the word “nigga nigger nigga”. They thought it was funny. My teacher took off points from everyone who said it. >.< But that’s beside the point. My teacher explained where the N word came from and why it wasn’t appropriate to say it. This kid (yes, he was black) said that nigger and nigga weren’t the same word. Somehow, I was surprised at his ignorance.

I don’t use any kind of racist terms. I get on all of my friends for saying them. Even my friends who aren’t my race. If we can get rid of words like that, this world would be a better place to live.

  • Eeeh…why do you people talk as if there are no black people on xanga? >_> Lol

  • It is inconsistant behavior, but it’s no different than Jews telling jokes on themselves, but getting upset if others do it.

  • If i was in a situation like that, then it probably would.  What annoys me more is when black people who ARE NOT FROM AFRICA get called african americans.  That’s like calling me a european american.  So ignorant.

  • its a whole ‘nother story. i don’t think white ppl can understand. no offense. even though we do it i dont completely agree with it so i try to refrain from n-word usage

  • yeah, but only because they call me cracker and little white girl and they think it’s okay.

  • it doesn’t bother me when they say it, cause they’re ignorant, but i think i should be able to say something back to without them getting mad.

  • back to them**

    okay i’m done commenting haha.

  • I don’t know. It’s this thing where some are cool enough to get away with it or whatever and most of us aren’t. I’m not. So I don’t.

  • Yeah. I think if they can, I have just as much right to say nigger.

  • Yes, but it mostly bothers me that most of them don’t understand the origin of that practice. It’s not supposed to me a synonym for “brother” or anything like that- slaves used to call each other the n-word when their master wasn’t around. It was never and isn’t now a positive term.
I’m all for the evolution of language, but I would still be perfectly happy if this word bit the dust immediately.

  • It doesn’t annoy me that they’d get mad if we call them that, it just annoys me that they use the word at all when it’s supposed to be offense to them.

  • Yes! It’s “racial” for us to do that to them but not “racial” for them to do it to each other but it still means the same thing. How is that okay then?

  • No.  My friends and I will refer to each other as “chubby”.  As in “Move it, chubby.”  We’re all chubby.  It doesn’t bother us.  However, if someone else said it to us, that would totally be a different story.

  • Yes. I personally find it completely and utterly nuts.

  • “Nigger” has always bugged me no matter what, no matter what race is saying it. But it always has peeved me the most when black people refer to each other by this word but then if you’re white they will get veryoffended. That’s RACIST of them…

  • yeah…but i live in a predominantly white area so usually they arent anywhere near to catch me

      ; )

no seriously i really dont give if they call us crackers so we should have the same right…same with hispanics and asians…its all part of the “politically correct” plague that has struck america.

  • No…it’s within the race.

  • Haha, not really.

    DOUBLE STANDARDSSS.

  • yes, very much so =[

  • No, it doesn’t bother me.

  • ” “Nigger” has always bugged me no matter what, no matter what race is saying it. But it always has peeved me the most when black people refer to each other by this word but then if you’re white they will get veryoffended. That’s RACIST of them…”

I should throw around the word cracker to my european friends then when someone jokingly calls me cracka who isn’t european I’m going to be like “You can’t….call me that.”

  • Hm. No, not really.

  • YES.

       -KrIsTiN-

  • The term “niggah” is a sensitive word that can mean a variety of things depending on the person who uses it and the manner in which it is used. Blacks often use it as a replacement for “brother” or when referring to a close friend, hence “my niggah.” The word, with its roots embedded in the history of slavery, can also mean “my FELLOW brother.”

The word can also be used negatively by blacks, particularly during confrontations. In this case, it can take on different meanings than the ones mentioned above. The phrase, ”What’s up niggah?” uses the word “niggah” to replace another expletive, such as “bitch.”

Again, this is all about the context in which the word is used, and it is unacceptable for anyone who’s not black to use it in the presence of one, because of the two mentioned definitions. One, unless you are black, you are not considered a fellow brother, and if that’s the case, then the meaning is automatically negative. See how that works?

“Yes, it is annoying. Just like when they call you a cracker they expect you to not freak out, but if you would call them the n-word imagine what their reaction would be.”

That’s a generalization, and not every black person out there would call you a cracker. Those who do, are probably oblivious to your personal feelings about it and not every white person would be angry if they were called a cracker. I have a friend I call that once in a while, and likewise, he’ll make some sort of joke about my race, but the word “nigger” can never be used in a friendly manner by anyone who’s not black unless you are really close with the person you are directing it to. So there’s your explanation.

“I don’t care about this “in-group, out-group” shit.  If someone says something to you and it’s meant to be insulting, yeah you can be insulted.  But if someone in the “out-group” says a word in a joking manner that you throw around all the time with your “in-group”, grow the fuck up and get a sense of humour.”

Read the above explanation. The same goes with chink and so on. You can’t expect everyone to understand your “humour.” Again, I’m going to mention that it depends on the context and your relationship with the person you direct a word like that towards.

  • “Yes! It’s “racial” for us to do that to them but not “racial” for them to do it to each other but it still means the same thing. How is that okay then?”

It doesn’t mean the same thing.

Seriously, put some more thought into studying intercultural communication before you pass judgment.

I know many of you would not call it “culture,” but most of us are raised in different environments. How one person of a certain race communicates versus how you do is a cultural difference. Not to sound arrogant, but I’m surprised there’s even a debate here.

  • Consider it a private joke. Its not for you to understand. . .

Of course, people don’t like being on the outside of a private joke, but then again, what can you really do about it but accept it as an inevitable truth – black people can say nigga all day long, and non-blacks CAN’T. However, i WOULD like to say that, in my experience, white people have no problem saying the N-word, and use it with a ferocity that i have never experienced from my fellow negros. They just don’t want to be sued for it. . .

Have your “cows” and know that u still rule the world, and get over the fact that you can’t have this ONE thing. . .

  • Well it’s not necessarily what you say as much as it is the way you say it! Most black people use it amongst themselves as a term of endearment, but I do understand where you are coming from. If African Americans consider the word to be offense and don’t want it to be used then they shouldn’t use it themselves!

  • “Have your “cows” and know that u still rule the world, and get over the fact that you can’t have this ONE thing. . .”

I think that’s a bit harsh. All I’m saying is that people should put forth more effort in understanding how other groups communicate before they call them out for anything.

“However, i WOULD like to say that, in my experience, white people have no problem saying the N-word, and use it with a ferocity that i have never experienced from my fellow negros.”

I have rarely witnessed that, so don’t push it as fact. I have many white friends who DO have a problem with it.

  • ehh, its not a word I use, nor like to hear, from anyone.

But I think it is different when used by the group it is meant to offend.  My advice, nobody need use that word.

  • You assume “you” is someone of a different skin color than blacks?

  • Not anymore than Christians who get on someones case who is making fun of Christians or the religion and then turn around and judge another Christian.  Hate that…

  • yes it does ! It is hypocritical no matter what race that person is!

  • It does bother me. I know they see it as a right in some way, but why continue with the word knowing most hate it so much?

  • Yes, I HATE that word, and wanna hurl anytime I hear it!

    )0(

  • No because it’s different when a black person uses it, when black people say it, it’s not offensive to them because it comes from a black person, someone of the same race. And it’s like, if a black person calls a black person the N word, they don’t care because they’re black too, they’re both called the N word, they have that in common. When someone else that isn’t black says it, it’s different, it loses that similarity, because a white person is never called the N word, so it’s totally different. And besides, usually when white people or anyone else says it, it’s usually meant to be said as an insult, and who wants to be insulted?

  • same here but I piss into the wind it’s more fun

  • It’s purely racist that they can use it and we can’t.

  • Oh yeah…definitely.

  • Nobody should say it.  If people are still ranting and raving, and getting mad at ME, regarding slavery, despite the fact that I had nothing to do with it, then what gives anybody the right to use the word so freely?  It’s stupid and contradicting if you’re still mad about slavery (despite the fact that every culture has been enslaved at one point or another)  ugh.  Now I’m angry.  Can’t we all just get along?  geez.

  • yeah, but I do the same thing. Did I ever tell you the one about the cracker box….?

  • YES it bothers me grately

  • WELL IN SOME ASPECTS YES.

  • no

  • A little. And even more so that they say that we classify them and stereotype them, when by saying that… they’re really doing the same.

  • “Baby was a black sheep, baby was a whore
Baby got big and baby get bigger.
Baby get something. Baby get more.
Baby, baby, baby was a rock-and-roll nigger.
Outside of society, they’re waitin’ for me.
Outside of society, that’s where I want to be.”

I think Patti smith would disagree.

  • Yeah. Even though happen to black i dont use the word to refer to people in general. I still use it as it is in the dictionary.
    Derogatory.

  • I’ve had arguements about this. It is one of my biggest annoyances.

  • My immediate response is NO. Of course not! Why on Earth would I or anyone else for that matter be seriously annoyed or pissed off even (which I find to be even deeper than or just as deep as the original question)… because WE do not or should not have the right to call someone a derogatory term? Especially when it’s deeply and painfully connected to slavery.

So I suppose to hear a white person or (insert any other race) but particularly a “white” person call them a “niggA” to which they hardly ever stress “A” and ends up as “niggER” because they want to “fit in” or feel somehow “left out” causes flashbacks and confusion and Reopens already open wounds and thus I suppose that’s why its not cool for a white people or (insert other ethnic groups) to say it. Unless you are friends with those people and established that form of language with them is cool among your group. Because I seen other races saying it ..yupe whites too with black people and everyone seemed A-okay but that’s the point ” friends” You dont just go around calling random people that…even black people dont usually walk up to random ( black strangers) and say “Hey, Nigga” because they dont even KNOW them or if that’s their thing. style, or if they are cool with it. So we shouldn’t assume all black people call each other this and thus what’s the big deal if we also called them the same. Like hello…is it even your friend? Do you even know them like that? Reevaluate why you even want to use the term. Because if you just want to call random black people you meet a “Nigga” when you don’t even know them just because its in rap music or you have seen other black people do it (to which once again I say is more than likely someone they have that established trusting understanding relationship with) or you feel left out and it’s a double standard than it’ clear to see why its wrong and you cant and/or shouldn’t

  • Also, I must agree why not pick a more positive term to refer to your friends as but that’s another topic that maybe you can ask African-American people.
