  • Covering the Mouth

Kelly Ripa and Clay Aiken have been in the news here recently.  Clay Aiken was a guest on ”Live with Regis and Kelly.”  He couldn’t get a comment in so he covered her mouth up with his hand.  She was unhappy and said “I don’t know where that hand’s been, honey.”

    Here is the video:

Kelly Ripa then called in on The View.  Rosie O’Donnell expressed her view that Kelly’s comment was homophobic in nature.  O’Donnell said, ”If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man or a man that she, you know, didn’t question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing.”

Here is the link for Kelly’s call to The View:

    Was Kelly’s statement homophobic?

  • No, I don’t think so

  • Give me a break!!  WHY would she call Rosie in the first place??

  • 4th?

  • Come on.
    That’s stupid.
    (No.)

  • clay aikens gay?? since WHEN?

  • Er…no.

I wouldn’t let any guy I wasn’t dating or sleeping with touch my mouth–straight or not.

  • Kelly Ripa is a little princess who wants to talk all the time.  Aiken was the guest wasn’t he?  She was rude.  I don’t know his sexual preference and I don’t care either.  But I always find it humorous when those “celebrities” attack their own.  LOL

  • it certainly could have been construed that way.

  • Oh brother

    I doubt it
But then again, I’d have no way of knowing

  • One more thing….why is it that gays are so sensitive. Kelly did not mean a thing by her comment!!  We all have to tip toe and worry that we (straight’s and Christians) will offend someone….Rosie O does not worry one iota about offending Christians w/her blatant anti-Christian blather!!!!

  • I mean come on…most guys are shameless about how often they touch themselves or grab their balls.

Same goes to chicks too.  Physical touch = definitely not.  Even with friends and family members.  I’m probably the least tactile person on the planet.

  • these type of questions are kind of pointless, because really, how are we to know?
it doesnt seem like it, but there could have been an underlying thought behind it, only she would know.

  • agree with bittersunday

  • well, it seems like all they were doing was joking around…

but even if she wasn’t, i don’t see how “i don’t know where that hand has been” has anything to do with sexual orientation… maybe he picks his nose or was cleaning his gutters~… hands are naturally very dirty things~!

  • haha no.

  • jesus christ, who cares?

  • Anyone covering my mouth would be a insult! But in this intance, it’s creating a stir in a slow news week.

    ’nuff said…

  • >> One more thing….why is it that gays are so sensitive. <<

I don’t think a generalization is going to be helpful. How many super sensitive gays do you know? I don’t know any

    >> We all have to tip toe and worry that we (straight’s and Christians) will offend someone….Rosie O does not worry one iota about offending Christians w/her blatant anti-Christian blather!!!! <<

What blather did she say? I’m not familiar with this

  • yeah the kramer thing was more funny.

  • Nope.. I’ve said to straight guys before.

  • It’s interesting that Clay doesn’t seem to care

  • Slightly.

I would’ve done the same, unofficially gay or straight, just a stranger’s hand on my mouth.

I wouldn’t care if I was on national television; If I were her I would’ve slapped the white woman out of him.

  • Rosie O’Donnell needs to get over herself. Maybe, just maybe, not everything is an attack on your personal sexuality.

  • btw I agree with Ripa

  • I don’t think so. More like germaphobic.

  • I wouldn’t want Clay Aiken touching me neither. I don’t want to get the HIV

  • Just seems like she’s messing around.

  • Rosie O’Donnell wears underwear with dick-holes in them.

  • Uh. No.

I believe Clay (who the heck is he anyway?) crossed a line…albeit in fun…and I believe she blew it out of proportion.

Why does everything have to be about sex anymore?

  • Its said that a gay man touching your mouth is the number one way to catch gayness. That and sharing a bench with one in a locker room. lol. .

  • Not necessarilly(sp?), but it could have been taken that way, I guess. o-o

  • No.  Or, at least, it didnt seem to be.

  • No, to be correct here, she only called “The View” AFTER Rosie was saying she was homophobic. She wanted to be able to defend herself since Rosie was being a big mouth. Kelly was not saying those things b/c of any homophobic fear. If you ask me I think Rosie thinks it’s her place to walk around like a super lesbian — defending (or should I say offending) other people for the sake of her own sexual preference. I agree with the statement that she should get over herself!

But- has no one seen the other side of this story? Rosie was accusing Kelly of being a homophobic. Then she was also saying how her & Clay are really good friends; they talk every day & she tries to ‘help’ him. How she feels bad for him, how he is going through a rough time……….etc…Well if she is so concerned for his plight in life & so close to him & says that Kelly was scared of him b/c of his sexual preference—————is Rosie trying to ‘out’ him???? Some friend she is.

  • uh.no

and i LOVEthe comment above mine..haha- so true

  • maybe.

i feel like so many people dislike Rosie that, even if the comment WAS homophobic, they’ll dismiss that claim because it was Rosie who brought it up.

  • Was it sort of DUMB? Yes.. But homophobic? Eh, no.

  • I think Rosie O’Donnell made a huge mountain out of a little tiny molehill. No, Kelly’s statement was not homophobic.

  • nooo! who knows where ANYONES hands have been? she’s more like a germophobe. heh

  • no, if i pick off cheese from the ground and am about to eat it, and my mom says “don’t eat that cheese, you don’t know where its been.” would that be offending the cheese? i mean, cheese has feelings tood

  • NO  – Rosie is nuts – She took another opportunity to tell us she’s GAY!  Hello – We get it already.

  • Rosie O’Donnell needs to get over herself. Maybe, just maybe, not everything is an attack on your personal sexuality.

    Precisely what I think…

  • Ripa gets on my nerves but frankly I can’t stand for anyone to put their hands anywhere near my mouth especially someone I barely know.

  • Who cares?

  • I think everyone needs to get a life.

She probably does not like Clay Aiken.. i don’t.

And when she’s touched Regis’ mouth it was probably for his own good..

so no she’s not a hypocrite.

    ~Hannah

  • No not really. I mean, I know people that would’ve said that in a homophobic way. Like…if she was homophobic I can understand how it could be considered such…but….I would say that to any of my straight friends.

  • Yes it’s homophobic, but that’s totally cool with me.

  • no…if somebody touched my mouth with his hand i wouldnt care if he was gay or straight…because really, who says his hands are clean? its a simply question of hygeine, not sexuality.

  • No.

    Just get over it.

  • I would find someone putting their hand over my mouth while I was speaking the height of rudeness, and anything I might say they probably have coming, plus anything coming out of Rosie’s mouth is only meant to be obnoxious and cause trouble, and try to draw attention to herself and her preferences, which most people don’t give a crap about anyway.

  • I don’t think so. I have said the same comment to my kids!

Gimme a break, even I can see that is not homophobic.

  • I think Rosie was just being ridiculous. Kelly would have probably have said that to anyone, gay, straight, man, woman, doesn’t matter.

  • Everything’s homophobic these days. I’m one of the last people that could be called homophobic on this planet, and I still get things I say and do called homophobic, even if it has NOTHING to do with homosexuality, sexuality, or relationships what so ever.

By the way, has anyone figured out if he’s actually gay or not?

  • Not everyone is a evil homophobe out to take a rip at rosie’s sexuality. It was just a talk show host reacting to somebody putting there hands on her mouth.

  • Rosie could tell me the sky is blue and i would not believe her because its her.

  • um ..NO! Straight guys hands can be ..gross too ..whatever

I don’t know where 5 year old hands have been! AH! I’m a terrible person!!

  • It was just a smartass remark, there wasn’t any thought behind it. Not everything is based on sexuality. Jeez.

  • “I personally wouldn’t let some stranger put their hand over my mouth. I think Rosie was being stupid. Kelly has a reason to defend herself. It’s all a bunch of crap.”

  • No, but Rosie’s was ugly-phobic!

    :)

  • No, I don’t think so.

  • Homophobic? Poorly thrown together word for straight people against perversion. That’s how liberal thinking combats truth.

  • Has he even admitted to being gay?!

  • Oh that’s a no-no… I don’t know where your hands have been.

    Well… she has a point. ;)

  • that’s so stupid.  no it’s not homophobic to not want someones’ hand over your mouth.  anyone does that and i’d say the same.  girl boy or monkey.

  • no, of course not.  I’d say that to any of my guy friends if they tried to put their, um, useful hand over my mouth.  at some points I don’t even want to know where their hands have been.  and of course you know that’s how you catch 90% of colds, is by hands.

then again, Rosie would have thought that was homophobic no matter what…

  • No. It’s very rude to cover someone’s mouth while they’re talking.

Plus, I think she just doesn’t like Clay himself. Who can blame her?

  • I agree w/ the gal on the View who said “he wouldn’t have done that to Regis.” It was disrespectful and Kelly Ripa probably tried to play it off w/ humor. I believe she didn’t mean it as a homophobic remark.

  • nope.  lots of people use that phrase, and i’ve never heard it used in relation to gays.  i think rosie is seeing persecution where it doesn’t exist.

  • Does Rosie publicly appology for her anti Christian comments? Personally, I don’t care who you are famous or not it was an act of disrespect on Clay Aiken’s part and why is he not getting any gruff? Would he treat his mother the way he treated Kelly?

  • omg. i would’ve said that to anyone. straight or gay. doesn’t matter.

  • I agree with bittersunday – the whole time I was watching it, I was thinking “well, he could’ve gone to the bathroom and not washed his hands. Or been touching himself beforehand.”  I hate it when people I know touch me.  let alone a complete stranger, esp a celebrity.

It wasn’t homophobic in anyway, straight guys touch themselves.  I don’t see how that was homophobic, or could be unsterstood that way.

    ash

  • I don’t think Rosie is anyone to take seriously. No – Ripa’s remarks were not homophobic. I consider them more practical. We are in cold and flu season. She really has no idea where his hands have been!

  • Who knows what she was thinking when she made the statement. Bottom line….Kelly made too big of a deal about what Clay did and Rosie made too big of a deal about what Kelly said and the whole thing really doesn’t matter except that they are some stupid people that happen to be on t.v. and why do people care?

  • yes and no. yes becuase anyone could say something like that and conver it up with a small laughter. and no becuase people look into things too much and claim its becuase their homophobic or black or what not…

  • NO… it’s not homophobic… Rosie O’Donnell is just OBSESSED with her own sexuality and thinks that everything people say is has a trace of homophobia in it… geez.  The View was stupid to put her on this show in the first place.  I don’t watch it anymore because she is loud and obnoxious.  I’d rather watch Ellen anyday.  Rosie talks about being gay ALL THE TIME… WTF CARES?!?  geez… Get over yourself, Rosie!

  • IF she thinks 2 men sticking each others penises in thier ass holes is gross, let her. She is not the whole who has to sit there and take it. Who cares what she thinks on gay, not everyone has to agree on everything. I dont support gays and my form of non support is not to be one. Ta da.

  • i wouldnt want clay’s hand on my mouth either..

  • I supposed she was hinting at his “sexuality”, but COME ON…people need to stop reading into so many things.

  • What a crock. Rosie only brought it up to keep herself in the limelight, and she does tend to see gay persecution around every corner and under every rock.  Meanwhile, Clay is lucky she didn’t bite him.

  • I dont think so, but i mean i guess its possible..  personally i think it wouldnt have been a big deal if rosie hadnt opened up her big mouth and made absurd comments based on her own rather biased opinions…

  • I am unbelevibly close to beating rosie o’donlle with a lead pipe

  • How is it that if you disapprove of something, you are labled as having a psychological disorder?

  • Unfortunately, it is in the eye of the beholder. I’m sure Kelly was just being witty.

  • I never felt it was homophobic.  I just think she’s not particularly fond of Clay Aiken.  If you ever watch the show, you will know that Kelly Ripa has put her hand on Reg’s mouth numerous times.

  • No way!  She was just probably worried about her lipstick!

  • no, rosie is just being defensive b/c shes a homo

  • Wait, he’s gay?!!! How did I miss this?!!!

    Anyways….Back to the question…..Probably. I don’t know.

  • How can telling someone to not put there hand on her mouth, she doesn’t know where it’s been be construed as homophobic? Rosie, shut off. No, it wasn’t.

  • Rosie O’Donnell

That is all you ever need to know, the woman is loud mouth moron

  • No! I would have been a little pissed off, too, if someone, gay or straight, put their hand on my mouth.

                                                                                                                         -KrIsTiN-

  • I don’t think so.

  • No. He was being a rude attention-hogging little brat and on top of that, he covered her mouth. I think the same comment would have popped out of her mouth no matter what his orientation.

  • No interest at all

  • nope, she implied he masturbates. frequently.

  • No, because Clay Aiken is not gay, he’s said so, in his book.

  • i was never informed Clay Aiken was gay. When did that happen?

I think thats the real question O_o”

  • Rosie takes EVERYTHING personally. I swear to god- no, Ripa said nothing wrong, I’da said the same damn thing.

  • um, i’d say that to a straight guy.

  • I wonder if they have nothing better to talk about on The view.

  • Um…NO!  Kelly’s comment was NOT homophobic!  Unless you are VERY familiar with someone, you do NOT put your HAND over their MOUTH!  Sheesh!  He’s the one that was rude.  He’s lucky all she did was SAY something.  Some people would react more violently than that.

And Rosie is over-sensitive, looking for homophobia in every thing since she came out of the closet.

  • nah. it could’ve meant he’s used it to pick up dog poop.

  • It seems like it was just a funny comment to me.

  • I dont know, perhaps not, though its possible.  In general I dont want other peoples hands touching my face. Straight guys have nasty hands too, probably nastier.

  • “I don’t know where that hand has been… HONEY”

She spoke to Clay Aiken with the catty cunty twitch your neck two snaps in Z formation style… “Honey”

Like “Oh MARY please stop pretending you aint a big ol’ FLAMIN FAG!!!”

Or like a woman clowning with an out homosexual.

It was not homophobic at all, but it certainly acknowledged in a read between the lines way that Clay may have in fact been a far far more skilled cocksucker than she, and if anything, she was jealous of his skills.

That this whole thing should be blown out of proportion is the sad part. I couldn’t watch the whole Rosie O’Donnel clip, it was yawntastic, typical press release backtracking, the first clip was clear as hell, I saw no homophobia, only girltalk clowning.

Seriously, take it from someone who keeps them guessing, this is splitting hairs.

  • If you think of it that way…..

Personally, I just think of it as “Did you wash your hands after going to the bathroom? How many door handles have you been touching and what about the chairs and papers and… Excuse me but I just put on this lip gloss during the break and now it’s not as glossy as before!”

    But that’s me ….

  • No not in the slightest bit-and I’m personally sick of Rosie o’donnells big fat mouth.  I won’t watch her on tv, she’s old news to me.

  • What the hell. This has nothing to do with sexuality.

    No.

  • No. . . . . and Rosie needs to chill.

  • The tone of her voice sorta says it. But it could go for heterosexual people too.

  • No. What the hell.

  • …are you being serious, or was that question a joke?

    NO.

  • No, Rosie is heterophobic.

  • wow. no. i assumed she meant on his naughty bits, not someone else’s.

for the record: not all gay people think every comment is an attack on their sexuality! just the crazy ones!

  • I don’t think it was …I used to like Rosie O’DOnnell…a long long time ago lol…i think since she came out tho, she has turned way too many things into sexual things that they are not….i don’t think this was unusual behavior for her of late..

  • Yes, it was. Lol. That’s what you say to gay boys and dirty boys… but Rosie is overreacting.

Clay Aiken is a gay boy.

  • What?  No.  Guys stick their hands down their pants all the time.  I would assume she meant something like that.  Gay activities is certainly not one of the first things her comment would have made me think of.

  • Germaphobic maybe?

  • No. If anyone, male or female, straight or gay, put their hand over my mouth, I would say the exact same thing. It was an awkward moment for Kelly after he did that, and it was a natural response. How rude of Clay, anyway. Duh. Kelly’s a blabbermouth. Figure that out before you’re a guest on HER show.

  • no- but if I were clay I’d be more insulted for Rosie calling him an ugly gay man

  • i don’t think so. a lot of ppl say that irrespective of sexuality or whatever.

  • I didn’t think of that at all. I thought she meant he used that hand to wipe with. I think Aiken was rude and arrogant, Kelly’s response was very apt and funny. Rosie O’Donnell should have just kept her mouth shut.

  • What sad, strange, odd people.  How incredibly disrespectful to put his hand over her mouth.  Shows such lack of intelligently being able to think of a better response.  Actually, probably linked to emotional problems to be so immature in the mores of behavior.  And her response is also so low.  wow.  This is news?  people WATCH this stuff>?

  • No not at all.  I wished Rosie would just hush!  She gets on my nerves!!

  • No it wasn’t but I heard Clay a couple of times trying to get Kelly to “shut up” I mean he said you’re not going to let me talk are you?  So I don’t blame him for putting his hand over her mouth, I thought it was funny.  Kelly is suppose to have a such a good sense of humor.  I think its getting out of hand, Rosie seems to be “looking” for homophobias in everything(like she’s the spokeswoman for the gay community), Kelly could have handled the situation better with Clay and Rosie.  I understand Kelly wanted to “defend” her comment but I think everyone is getting too wimpy anymore.  You look at someone cross eyed and their boo hooing all over the place.  But at the same time Rosie does bring up a point, if it was any other person, say Sean Connery or like Rosie said someone Kelly thinks is good looking would she have reacted the way she did?  I have to agree with Rosie on this point only I don’t think Kelly would have.  But I sure don’t see it being a “homophobic” response.  Everyone needs to grow up and get a thicker skin.  Stars have just been proving their human, they have their moments when the brain speaks before the mouth can shut.  Rosie needs to stop trying to be the spokeswoman for the gay community, Kelly needs to shut up once in awhile and let other people speak instead of trying to put on a comedy routine.  Clay is the only one who isn’t rushing out to his front yard to have a press conference about his “actions the other day…”  He apologized right there in front of millions of people.  I hope he does it again to her if he ever gets the chance!

  • The whole situation is stupid !

  • Nah, Clay was obviously nervous, wanted to be funny, made a rash choice, and everybody who has nothing else to do wants to make a story….another thing that Americans do best.

    Gosh…..

  • No. Rosie was just trying to attract attention to herself. (using her own sexuality, perhaps?)

  • NO!  I wouldn’t want some guy’s hand over my mouth.  I can’t say anything more, or I’ll say something inappropiate.

  • Clay Aiken, aka Fruity McGayClay.

  • No, it was not. There’s a good chance she would have said that to anyone. Rosie doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

  • NO! He could have been masturbating, and when people are overly defensive (O’ Donnel) it gives you a reason to dislike them. If anything she is harming the gay community.

  • actually i find rosies comments about him to be more rude and close minded

just cuz shes gay doesnt mean everyones out to get her and “her kind”

even if kelly was referring to being gay… so what? it was intended to be a joke… one that HE didnt make comment about… shes always throwing out wit like that…

and she also called him ugly… where she said… if he were someone that she found attractive… if i were him id be more offended at that than kellys comment…

i think kelly had the right to say whatever she wanted in that case… and clay understands that… and HES not even the one making a fuss…

rosie needs to get over herself…

  • ps… when i heard it… i totally thought she was referring to beating off anyway… as in touching HIMSELF… not SOMEONE ELSE…

anyway… she was looking for a laugh… and thats what she got… no matter WHAT she was referring to

  • Both gay and straight men hold their penises with their hands when they urinate…I’m not sure Rosie O’Donnell understands that?!

  • I’m pretty sure if Clay Aiken were solidly considered straight that Rosie O’Donnell wouldn’t have cared that Kelly Ripa said that. Rosie O’Donnell just likes to be angry.

  • Didn’t even register that it was a gay (homosexual) comment.  I’m with Kelly that it could’ve been dealing with cold/flu….or germs……….

    Why the phone call’s anyways?

    LOL.

  • no. by the looks of it she didn’t seem like she meant it. besides they were just being silly.

besides, what kelly said was true, no one ever really knows where anyone’s hands have been.wether they’re straight or not.

  • It doesn’t seem all that homophobic to me, but think about it… What if that was Johnny Depp, or what if it was a nice straight woman like Shania Twain or something? Can you really imagine her saying something like that to THEM?

I don’t think it’s homophobic, but I DO think it was an insult to Clay. She wouldn’t have said something like that to a bigger celebrity.

  • This picture is me in the audience of the Kelly and Regis show last June. But Regis was on vacation and some NASCAR person was substituting. Kelly was there.

  • Rosie makes everything gay. I have no problem with gay people but Rosie will take everything and pull the “because im gay” card. You dont like the View…its because im gay….and OF COURSE CLAY AIKEN IS GAY!!! He never said he wasnt, and what straight man would be ambiguous about him being straight? a gay one.

  • kelly’s comment was not only homophobic, but just reaffirms her general ignorance–which is why i dont watch the show any more (he low level of intelligence on every topic).

  • No that’s not homphobic. If a hot or cute guy put his hand on my mouth I’d get offended either way, whether he being gay or not. Saying “I don’t know where your hand’s been.” isn’t homophobic, come on. Anyone putting their hand over my mouth is offensive, and I wouldn’t know where they’re hands have been either. They could’ve just liked, wiped their ass with their hand or something before covering my mouth, so it wasn’t really innapropriate to say that. She said it simply for a comeback and that, she actually DIDN’T know where his hand was at, that’s gross.

Let’s just not put our hands on other people faces, okay?

  • I don’t think it was homophobic at all. People’s hands could be any numer of gross places, and just being a male, he holds his penis when he pees, that’s gross enough.

  • No.  I don’t think that Kelly’s statement was homophobic.  Clay was horribly out of line and Kelly called him on it.  She’s the host of the show, for heaven’s sake.  He was so inappropriate.

I think Rosie’s stretching a little bit too much for this one.

  • No I would have said the same thing had anyone done that to me.

  • no. rosie shouldn’t be listened to, anyway.

  • no. i didnt even know he was gay. is he? i mean, i would say that to any guy. hello… they all touch themselves and let you know it. at least, my friends….

though, i dont like kelly ripa and think shes dumb and talks too much.

    I AGREE

  • No! It’s true!
