Hunting Season
We are in the middle of hunting season in a lot of states. People are getting out during their favorite time of the year. I personally could never shoot a deer.

Could you ever shoot a deer?
Comments (241)
in self defense sure. If it was shooting back…
First, and no.
Ok, second.
no!!!!!
Sure could. I have once before.
depends
Hell no!
well, hypocritically I would eat dear, but never shoot it myself.
nononono.
Nope, but hubby keeps trying to get me to hunt with him. I’ll eat it though. Cooked correctly it’s very good.
Sure, why not?
nope
maybe
top ten?
nevermind
only if it were a matter of survival, not just for sport
O_o…
i could, but i never would.
ick.
nope
Yep. I
haha. as the first guy says, only if it was shooting back! but no, I would never shoot a deer just for the thrill of hunting it… let alone be able to eat it afterwards
I could shoot it. I just couldn’t gut it…
For food? Yes. For sport? No.
Agree with Krissy_Cole.
Nope =/
I wonder how many people would stop eating at McDonalds if they have to slaughter their own cow? Yeah, I could shoot a deer, but only if I was going to eat him
No way. It’s wrong to kill.
Never, ever. They’re alive just like me.
Yes, I could shoot a deer (although only if I planned on eating it). Aside from the Biblical fact that God gave us dominion over animals, well … a deer is an animal. I don’t mind killing animals.
No!
Bambi, no way.
Man is my game.
God never meant us to kill animals to eat them. In the Garden of Eden he gave us FRUIT to eat. And the animals grass and leafy plants for food. It wasn’t till after we got kicked out of the garden that we started sacrificing animals, and not till After Noah’s Ark that we started eating them.
nope. I couldn’t shoot anything.
No! They’re so freakin’ cool!
i don’t get the hunting thing
Yes… I can shoot anything. I would never shoot an innocent animal though without a very very good reason.
Yeah, God put that deer down here for me to eat.
Sure I could.
“It wasn’t till after we got kicked out of the garden that we started sacrificing animals, and not till After Noah’s Ark that we started eating them.” -Pacifism_Please
Yes, but after Noah’s Ark God explicitly commanded Noah to eat animals, which shows that it isn’t wrong. It wasn’t jsut “and then men started eating animals”, it was more like “And God said, ‘Here. Animals. Eat them. They’re tasty.’
If God had wanted for us to eat them, why did he wait till after Noah’s Ark to let us do so? Keep in mind that before this man was living for many years–Adam 900 something–but after Noah’s Ark (the time when we started eating animals–people starting living normal “mortal” years. You can not live forever on rotten deceased animal flesh.
ur picture is promoting a No, but if its a passion then hell yeah!
Wow, I could have lived without seeing that.
No, I would never. Ever. But some people like my sister in law would be more than happy to -_-
I personally feel Like there has to be a way to make deer hunting more effective. Sitting in the woods for twelve cold hours does not sound like fun to me.
Daniel
Nope. My bro in law hunts and he says it thins out the population which is necessary I guess but I could personally never kill a deer. Or any other animal.
I have with a water hose.
Those little buggers eat up your garden, and mess up your cars. They get old after packs of 10 come and ravage everything you’ve labored in the sun to plant and take care of.
I don’t know if i could KILL one though.
Probably.
Been there done that, but none this year or last. Next year I am back to elk hunting with dad. Waterfowl season starts soon, that is my favorite I do that every year.
Animals are food, might as well harvest your own
never…taking away a life just doesn’t seem like much of a sport to me..
-Jacob
I don’t think I could, no.
Probably. But I doubt I would do it just for fun.
In a past life I was an animal hunter…the two legged animal. However, these days I prefer not to kill anything.
RYC: That’s amazing! I live in Richmond, if you know where that is…
I feel sick even lookinh at the picture. I could never kill anything except spiders and ants, and you’d be suprside how awful I feel about that!
If I Was Hungry I could do it if my aim was good…….
I’d starve!
Noooooo
One it’s gross and two it’s mean.
I could try… but I’d miss.
Absolutely. I love a good venison chili.
no, i dont think i could, theyre too cute
No. I can hear the gun shots from my house and it makes me sick.
noooo way
No!
I love hunting, although I deplore idiots like you have chosen to share in your post……….I hunt and I respect the game I take………You should never strap it to your car like some sick trophy.
I could if I had to use the food to feed my family. I could not hunt for fun, but I do not have a problem with others doing so.
Shoot ‘em? Heck, I eat them too.
omg no. i could never shoot anything that was cute. that being, deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, etc.
That picture looks disgusting.
I’m not really sure if I could shoot it or not.
Even if I tried to shoot it, I would probably miss. xD
no, never. to me that’s like taking a human’s life. i mean come on, both humans and animals want to live, right?
Yes… I have tried, just never accomplished.
Gotta love PacifismPlease‘s response…
No way, It’s wrong to kill.
Hahaha… sorry for making fun of someone, but that is just hilarious. We are speaking of an animal here… not a person.
Only if it was breaking into my house.
Nope
No
Santa’s gonna be really pissed if he finds out someone shot one of his reindeer
but seriously, no. I have trouble killing anything unless they’re a bug
Only if I had to for survival. It’s just a cruel waste otherwise…
Not to mention, I’m vegetarian. So I’d probably not be able to stomach the meat anyways.
I would blow it’s effing head off.
If I was going to use the meat, otherwise.. No.
Yes! I love venision.
No, but I’m not totally against hunting. It can help control the population when done in moderation.
with a picture like that no way! haha
but personally, i couldnt shoot anything.
i dont think its wrong i just think animals are cuties.
my best friend since 5 hunts with her dad and theres nothing wrong with that.
it tastes delish. im glad someone does it!
Of course! I love deer meat!
No way. I’d shoot something less important, like a squirrel
No, I don’t like dead things. But I have no qualms at all about eating them
Venison is delicious! Deer Hunting Season is my favorite time of year –and I’m not even a hunter.
Only if I was going to eat it. And if the alternative was letting it starve to death, then I would in fact shoot it. Circle of life you know.
That pic looks like that deer endured alot of pain before it died. Only if I was really hungry but I would rather someone else shoot it. No I dont think I could.
Maybe, but I’d feel terrible.
“That pic looks like that deer endured a lot of pain before it died”
Were do you see pain? The animal has been gutted, you can’t even tell were the bullet hit.
If I was planning on eating it.
No way.
No, I couldn’t.
Just about every night we have at least 8 deer in our yard near the woods.. I love watching them. Could never shoot one.
heck yes
i had a converstaion not too long ago with a friend talking about how we didn’t understand hunting. it’s a no win sport for the animals. we thought it might be harder and more sportsman like to actually hunt animals with our cameras instead. i have eaten deer and cow before along with crocodile and all kinds of other “things” so this is a little hypocritical for someone to say who’s not vegitarian. but i think it’s because they are wild that i feel that way about. there’s not too many wild animals anymore. and i think it’s a shame to kill them.
Not if I had a choice.
I don’t mind those who do in the least, all this stuff about it being wrong to kill animals is dumb, I mean if you’re a vegetarian, more power to ya, but don’t tell those of us who enjoy our steaks that killing animals for food is wrong. Personally though I’m a target shooter, not a hunter.
i could, tho i might have a problem with the gutting, but shooting one? i wouldnt mind that at all……
No- one just ran in to my car in the begining of Nov…And seeing it close up was too much for me to handle…
Hell yeah if he was aiming at me.
If was that hungry… sure.
For food yes, but… I have to agree, I don’t know if I’d be able to gut it.
I’d do my darndest though.
Animals are food.
Sure, they look cute sometimes, but if you need food, oh look…a deer.
*BANG*
ta-da! food!
how do you think the meat gets in the neat little packages at the store?? MAGIC! THE MEAT FAIRY BROUGHT IT!
Ugh, no. If I were starving then I probably could but where I sit now, no.
I was going to make you a birthday cake! But I don’t have any eggs!
I will work on something.
No but there is no high moral standard here, I just don’t hunt.
I would never shoot anything
absoltuly. i need a way to vent.
just tell me where it is.
hell no
For food, yes.
My brother’s girlfriend’s father shoots deer.
Makes for good eatin’ for my brother’s two dogs.
If someone supplied the gun, ammo, and knowledge, sure I’ll kill a deer that I’d eat. It’s a life experience. If anything, it’s a neutered throwback to the pre-historic hunting days.
That’s such an awful picture! The blood running down the spare tire is nice.
sure
No.
I could shoot a deer. In fact, I have been hunting since I was about 9 years old. We don’t hunt just to kill the animal, though. We always eat what we kill. So, yeah, I could shoot a deer. They are yummy.
i could, but i don’t really like to deer hunt. i mean, you get up at 3 in the morning, wait 4 hours and shoot only 1 animal? its not worth it.
pheasant and quail hunting are more worth it. ’cause you can get more, and it is a moving target, so its more of a challenge. and you can shoot them any time of the day.
Hell yeah. Already shot three this season. Killed two of ‘em…but never found the third…guess it must’ve limped off. We followed the bloodtrail and everything…just never found the fucker.
“If God had wanted for us to eat them, why did he wait till after Noah’s Ark to let us do so? Keep in mind that before this man was living for many years–Adam 900 something–but after Noah’s Ark (the time when we started eating animals–people starting living normal “mortal” years. 1. I don’t know. But the fact is He did let us, in fact encouraged us to in other instances, with no strings attached, so it’s impossible to say it’s wrong and be scripturally sound in your reasoning.
2. Actually, man’s lifespan began to decrease long before the Flood. (Genesis 6:1-3). No offense, but look this stuff up before you start talking about it.
Yeah. My dad’s a hunter. He goes after deer, phesants, quail… pretty much anything. I’ve eaten it all, my aims a little bad though- so I’d probably have to chase it down with a machine gun to kill it. Haha. As long as I didn’t have to gut it I would though.
Something funny: My dad doesn’t call himself a hunter, he calls himself a ‘wildlife population specialist’.
*asks the deerhead’s opinion.
Yeah, i found out not only could i kill a deer, i could skin it and clean it. Its not to bad… but my was he delicious.
No.
ANy of you ever been Fox hunting? No there is a hunt. Humans go mostly for talking and riding, the dogs do most the hunting.
Sure…why not? I’ve hit them with my car… (on accident of course) but I’d rather kill them with a gun than with my car.
<3 Ashley
not by my own free will. ><
if my food consumption depended upon shooting a deer or other wildlife.
I don’t think its skunk and rabbit friends would be very happy about it.
sure, but it is a common courtesy to people who couldn’t stand the thought to not tie your deer like that.
Maybe I could shoot it, but not mount it on a wheel.
I prefer to hunt deer with my vehicle. I’ve bagged deer twice on the highway. I don’t think I could shoot one, though.
No I could never shoot a deer. But in Georgia you see a lot of them dead on the side of the road.
no
no but i live in michigan mostly everyone hunts up here. the other week my neighbors had a deer up on their hood of their suv. its so gross
yup
No. I grew up visiting family friends in the country who would take in orphaned fauns at the end of deer hunting season and raise them as pets. (They had a lot of acrege.) I’ve held them and taught them to drink from a bottle, watched them grow, and as a young child ridden on the grown deer like ponies. They are very much like large dogs or even children, each with their own personalities. They used to stand outside the kitchen door at dinner time begging to come inside with the family. We had to really keep an eye on them because people food wasn’t good for them. I would have a hard time ever shooting one.
hell no.
Fight Mental Illness Stigma
There is something to be said for having the guts to go out and get your own meat instead of paying someone to do your killing for you. I bet a lot of people wouldn’t eat meat if they had to go get it themselves. Venison tastes awesome. Though transporting a deer like that is tacky and tasteless.
no. every time i look at a deer i think of bambi.
You bet I would that is some good meat and it is better for you than beef
I wonder how many of these people who say it is wrong to kill are vegetarians
yeah, why not?
I don’t know…if they don’t stay out of my tomatoes….I’ve used acorns in my peashooter on the deer and turkeys…and then I started using rose canes…but I have this one persistant buck that just might become freezer meat soon if’n he don’t stop….Smile
eeew. i cant even eat meat, much less kill it! It pisses me off even more when people don’t even eat the dear/animal after they kill it. When they “hunt for sport.” Who the hell thinks, “I’m going to go out and kill something just for the hell of it. Sounds like fun!”? I mean, seriously? If you want to shoot something that badly, set up targets or something. >.<
OH YEAH!!!!! Blow it away.
I’m not the hunting type, never really had the desire, but there is nothing inherently troubling about shooting a deer.
Yes…one of my goals in life is to learn how to shoot and go on a hunting trip.
i wouldnt shoot.. or kill or eat one..
No.
I can’t even run over a squirrel.
nope….but i live in western PA and ALL hunting is a way of life here for most people….my kids actually get 2 days off of school for the opening of deer season
No.
and if I were hungry in trapped in the Alabama woods, someone else would have to do it.
dunno…i wanna try hunting sometime…lol
No, but if it was my only source of food, then, yes!
I could.
But I doubt I would.
No. But my dad can. He went hunting XD
If hungry enough, i’d shoot any animal, it doesn’t really bother me.
If it was already dead ..maybe haha
i might add that in that pic, that is a very…unorthedox…and the wrong way…to carry a kill back to said place.
and yes, i could shoot a deer…or (almost) any animal.
In response to people saying
Why not? Too many deer. We have too. [kill them]
Well The reason there are so many is because we’ve hunted deer predators like wolves.
To say hunting is “the answer” is a falsehood. Hunting is the problem in the first place!
And as to GrundlingGoomba
2. Actually, man’s lifespan began to decrease long before the Flood. (Genesis 6:1-3). No offense, but look this stuff up before you start talking about it.
Posted 11/25/2006 at 11:37 AM by GrundlingGoomba
Um. . .I know exactly what I’m talking about. If you look in the bible, it says God decides to make man mortal. (then the flood happens which kills most every human being from the face of the planet) And then after the flood eating animals happens and nobody lives near as long as before.
No, I remember in high school trying deer that my friend’s dad hunted (I could only eat one piece because it seemed wrong).
I feel like a hypocrite saying no….but NO. It’s hypocritical because I buy meat at the grocery store without thinking twice about it…..and basically I hired the “assassin” to do it for me. If it came down to me doing it myself I’d be eating fish for my protein. Many of us would stop eating red meat if we bought our steaks and hamburger packaged with photos similar to the one on your post! Ignorance is bliss…outta sight outta mind…etc.
of course. ive been trying to for weeks and so far no luck. Davis
I could shoot at a deer, no problem. The question is whether or not I could hit it…
no o_o
god forbid anyone shoots a deer unless if they were starving. america is the only country that goes hunting on a full stomach. :-/ it’s sad.
No.
I could if I was required to for the purpose of eating. We live a step removed from our food through grocery stores and other entities. I wonder if it would be good to return to a grow your own sort of mentality so that people can begin to appreciate the food that they have.
my dad just went hunting. he never shot any thing though.
i on the other hand, am a vegetarian… so, no.
I have before, though I doubt I will ever go hunting again (nobody I know hunts, that’s the main reason). I see no problem with it, but I get annoyed at people who say hunting is wrong, yet they eat venison, beef, chicken, etc… Having said that, I would never hunt for trophies or put a stuffed dead animal on my wall.
Ugh, no way = (
depends on how hungry I am
No, the only way I could EVER kill another being with breath in its body would be in a life and death situation.
Hunting for sport makes me ill.
I couldnt shoot one. I caught a fish when I was younger and watched them gut it, no way could I eat it.
sick……..i’m veggie, so of course i think that. However, if you’re going to eat it (ew) then at least you aren’t just killing it for the sake of killing it. Still, it doesn’t sit well with me.
NO
Yes… I have tried, just never accomplished.
Gotta love PacifismPlease‘s response…
No way, It’s wrong to kill.
Hahaha… sorry for making fun of someone, but that is just hilarious. We are speaking of an animal here… not a person.
so killing is alright? Guess what, animals have feelings too, gosh!
I go hunting for squirrel, crow, rabbit, etc. and I beleive in killing something ONLY and ONLY if you a) need it ~or~ b) are going to use it. So yes,i’d kill a deer . going to this weekend
I agree with ehowton
I’ve hunted with my dad before (but i was a pathetic hunter and didn’t kill a thing.lol)
I could kill it… but gutting it is a totally different situation.
It depends. If I was alone and lost in the woods for an extended period of time, I might shoot it to eat it, but I would never hunt for sport.
Ouch…poor deer…
And to answer your question…no…definitely not…
probably.
probly not
Indeed yes!
Venison is lovely meat and cholesterol free. Hard work carrying the beast from the forest though, but worth it.
Sure beats eating adulterated garbage like Mystery Bags (assorted meat scraps and animal guts from butchershop floor, liberally laced with salt and sawdust and sealed in a condom). Also known as sausage or sausages.
no.
who the hell knows what god did and why anyway? the fact that we have COMPLETELY opposite interpretations of what god’s purpose for deer is tells me that people use their god to justify things that they like to do, without really knowing what he would say.
Could I, yep. Do I, yep. Got three this year as a matter of fact. I use all the meat, and don’t waste any of it. Great stuff. The fact that I live in the worst area of the country for car-deer accidents is a little bit of a incentive as well. And don’t say you don’t understand hunting unless you’ve done it. The feeling you get is just an indescribable high.
I think anyone would kill it and eat it if they were hungry enough
No way.
NO
Could I? No. I could never kill a pig either, but I sure do love steak!
wow. no. that deer never had a chance.
when i mean the deer never made it, i meant the pic, because i’m all up for nature and its creatures.
Yeah, but I’d feel guilty later. ):
No, I wouldn’t be able to. I don’t think I’d be able to shoot any furry or feathery animal.
I could, but don’t think I will
I’d be very surprised at myself if I could pick up a gun.
But I don’t have a problem with other people hunting. Don’t waste the deer, but I’m not gonna tell you you can’t shoot it. There are too many of them getting hit by cars.
Yes. Even for sport, but I would always eat it after wards, if it was good meat, if it weren’t, will lets think of it as ending the suffering of its sickness before it got too bad.
Thats an icky picture.
No.
nope i could not.
I could cut a deers throat if it meant dinner. How pathetic people in the city get about killing animals! If we didn’t have deer season they would populate so thick we wouldn’t have any produce to feed humans. Let alone bison, elk, rabbit, geese, ducks, and ugly women.
Well yeah, if I were a hunter!
Even if I just ran over a squirrel while driving, I would cry and probably feel guilty for days.
Even if I absolutely had to out of survival, I would probably still not be able to bring myself to do it.
Killing is not my forte.
I’d hunt for survival, but not for sport. That’s just cruel.
’nuff said…
NO WAYS….
besides im a vegetarian…i couldnt even bring myself at the thought of hurting it
or inflicting pain on it
NO WAYS….
besides im a vegetarian…i couldnt even bring myself at the thought of hurting it
or inflicting pain on it
I dont hunt myself, but I see nothing wrong with hunting for FOOD. Hunting just to kill seems a bit wrong to me.
Yes, but the men featured in that picture are moronic and cruel. And besides, If I were to shoot the deer, the meat would then be processed and used as the main source of our food, as it is when my dad goes hunting. One good sized deer is enough to pretty much feed us for the year. But those men are idotic and obviously damaging the meat, so they were hunting for sport, which is something I would never do. I could hunt, and I could kill a deer, but I would still respect the animal! Assholes giving it a horrible name..
yes
Well…
if there happened to be too many deer and I had been called upon to shoot some, then yes.
Yes. ^^
I’d have to be on a hunting trip already, though. I wouldn’t just go out and do it by my own choice.
I suppose if I had to I would. My husband and son hunt deer and quail. Deer are so pretty and Bambi like
so it would be hard for me. If our family needed food then I could.
NO NEVER
no, of course not. i could never kill any animal.
> If I needed food, sure…. Otherwise, we’d just share the same range after the season was closed….
Peace
yes. the native americans did it for food and clothing and even used the bones for beads. if i shot it, that is what the sacred animal would be used for and treated with respect and id be thankful for it’s life and bounty.
ohhh yes!!!!!!!!!
most deffintley!!!!!!!!!!!!gotta fill the freezer…
no way
Yes, I have.
Absolutely. Deer are delicious.
its immoral to hunt when you dont need to
Nopers, but they are very tasty.
It doesn’t appear that the two fat ass hunters need the food, does it?! Nothing wrong with hunting, really. It should, however, serve some purpose.
yes
only if i got to eat it later…
i have and i will again. I think it’s okay as long as you use as much of it as possible when you do. killing just to kill is wrong.
btw, that’s a nice buck.
No!
This is a tough subject for me.
First of all, that picture makes me want to throw up.
Second of all, I’m a vegetarian and I don’t agree with this.
Third of all, my dad is a deer hunter and is away and hunting camp at this very moment… I don’t eat what he brings back, but watching my family eat it then pass around pictures of the dead deer he caught THAT THEY JUST ATE makes me a bit shocked…
Fourth of all, that’s the whole.. POPULATION thing. Their population is getting out of control, no? I agree. But hey, so are humans.
…
Dur.
And for the person who said “For food, yes. For sport, no.”… many times these hunters do it for sport but obviously then use it for food.. what then??
heck yes! But only if I can see one. I’m still not so great at that.
Yep – I have – I would and I will!
sure. i’d feel bad about killing one, though.
we keep a loaded P22 Walther by the back door, to shoot the possoms and raccoons that come by and eat my cat’s food. we’ve never killed one, but those little plastic pellets sting.
Yup. Bucky Jr. is in my basement. My brother shot him. He was yummy.
Nope.
In defense. Otherwise…eh…..I’m not sure.
OMFG……….DID YOU REALLY HAVE TO PUT THAT PICTURE ON HERE?????? THANK YOU, DAN, FOR COMPLETELY RUINING MY APPETITE FOR THE NIGHT.
-KrIsTiN-
I dunno but I don’t think I could.
Ew, ew, EW! I encountered this situation on my way home to Chicago while in Wisconsin a few hours ago. There was a deer just like that one tied to the back of a truck and my sister was shouting out things like “That’s disgusting!” or “We’re in hicksville!” and I totally did not disagree (although we got a few glances from locals with the “hicksville” comment).
no
no.
its murder.
end of story.
Sure, I could shoot a deer. But I wouldn’t, cause it is too boring. You climb a tree, you sit there…….several hours later, a deer walks by, you shoot it, you take it home, you’re done. BORING. That is why I hunt ducks! If I’m lucky it will sound like WWII out on the marsh. Guns going off everywere. I could get my limit of six bird in six shots..or in fifty shots. All the more fun. If the birds are flying it is never a dull moment! I can’t wait till I get back to Fl for Christmas break. I’m getting myself a trophy duck this year, I can feel it!
Yup!
don’t know, never been in the situation.
>_O never ever
If I NEEDED the food, I think I could. Shoot them for fun? No.
I hope I do soon!!!
no .
