  • Shopping

    Are you going shopping tomorrow?

  • Thanksgiving Dinner

I was watching a news program this morning where a woman was discussing proper etiquette.  The lady giving the interview was discussing visiting people’s homes for Thanksgiving Dinner.

The interviewer mentioned that sometimes you will go to a house but find that you don’t like some of the food.  She asked what a person should do in that situation.  The lady answered that out of respect you should at least try a bite.

Would you take a bite out of something you didn’t like to be polite?

  • Covering the Mouth

Kelly Ripa and Clay Aiken have been in the news here recently.  Clay Aiken was a guest on ”Live with Regis and Kelly.”  He couldn’t get a comment in so he covered her mouth up with his hand.  She was unhappy and said “I don’t know where that hand’s been, honey.”

    Here is the video:

Kelly Ripa then called in on The View.  Rosie O’Donnell expressed her view that Kelly’s comment was homophobic in nature.  O’Donnell said, ”If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man or a man that she, you know, didn’t question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing.”

Here is the link for Kelly’s call to The View:

    Was Kelly’s statement homophobic?

  • White-Only Scholarship

We all need to play our part to ensure that white people are helped out during their time of need.

For instance, the College Republicans at Boston University are offering a scholarship that is geared specifically towards white people.  It is a $250 Caucasian Achievement and Recognition Scholarship.

    Applicants need to

    # 1  have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher

    # 2  write two essays

    # 3 be at least one-quarter Caucasian.

The president of the College Republicans at Boston University, Joe Mroszczyk, has said he did it in order to stir up debate about the topic of racially based scholarships.  He said, “We believe that racial preferences in all their forms are perhaps the worst form of bigotry confronting America today.”

An example is provided at BU where there is a National Hispanic Recognition Scholarship.  Here is the link:  Link

Is it inappropriate to use race as a factor for college scholarships?

What food are you most looking forward to eating today?

  • Happy Thanksgiving

While I was traveling yesterday, I was listening to the radio.  On the program they were talking about how the Boston Red Sox paid over $51 million to talk with Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.  They get their money back if he won’t sign with them.  So they are paying $51 million and they still have to sign a contract with him.

The people on the news station thought this was incredible.  They then launched into a discussion about who they would want to talk to if they could talk to anyone who ever lived in history.  One had mentioned the idea of talking to Lee Harvey Oswald.  They threw out a few other names of popular people.

If you could meet anyone whoever lived in history, who would you want to meet?

  • Grades

I got the following issue from mAnGLeDmiSTlEtoE.  I thought it would be a good issue for us to look at.

She was talking about a teacher reading grades off in front of the class:

“The beloved English teacher announced test grades in class today. (Note: She DID give us the option of having her not say it out loud. I don’t think anyone took it. Luckily, my grade wasn’t something worth crying over.)

Is it ok for the teacher to tell the class every individual’s grade, if she gives them the option of keeping it quiet?”

  • God and Hate

God hates Alabama.  How do I know?  I know because Fred Phelps said so.  He apparently has an inside connection.

Fred Phelps and his church are about to protest the funerals of the victims of the bus accident the other day that killed those students.

Here is the link:  Link.  The story was sent to me by ProfessorTom.

What do you think motivates these people?
