  • What is Xanga?

John from the xanga team wrote this on his site:

“This is what our frontpage says:

Xanga is a community of online diaries and journals. You can easily start your own free journal, share thoughts with your friends and meet new friends, too!

It’s a bit out of date and we’ll probably edit it or take it off the frontpage.  But it got me thinking, so I thought I’d ask: What is Xanga?”

    What is xanga?

  • xanga is a place to voice your opinio about whatever you want to complete strangers and friends.

it’s a place to have fun

and i feel safer on it than myspace

  • An online community of diverse peoples and interests where you’re able to do many things such as music hosting, blogging, online journaling, hear eachother’s voices, and so much more.

  • It’s completely impersonal and public, yet we use it like we’re talking to our confidants.

  • a blog.

  • It’s the place I’ve been for almost four years, where some of my friends and nearly all of my memories reside, where I’ve received more than my due of inspiration and support. It’s a place of intellectual freedom.

  • It’s a place where we try to beat everyone else when we comment on your blog.

  • Xanga is where you can whine and moan about every little thing that bugs you in life. Hey it’s better than owning a gun right?

  • “Facebook for junior high kids”
    -my boyfriend

  • i like what living_embers wrote up there… that would probably be my answer too

  • Who’s To Say What Xanga Really Is, Dan.

  • I don’t know good question.

  • Xanga is, first and foremost, a collection of weblogs. It’s a place to vent, to complain, to moan and whine and bitch about whatever is going on in your life. It is a place to gush about your new boyfriend or girlfriend or talk about a new love interest. It is a way to keep up with your friends’ everyday lives. It keeps oyu connected with people you know but may nto necessarily see very often. Xanga is a blog first, and a network second.

  • Its a place where you can be totally yourself and outspoken about your beliefs or it is a place where you can be someone else – the person you want to be in real life.

  • see who can get on feature contents !!

  • xanga is gay. Thank you for asking.

  • It’s a place where desperately insecure people go to seek reassurance. Oh, and some do it just for fun.

  • an internet site (not a place) where i put some of my innermost thoughts, be they disguised in song lyrics, fancy wording, or as blatant as a midsummer’s day sun- they’re there.

it’s a site for people like me, who want to spill their guts- not to people they know who can bash them and judge them and confront them- but to complete strangers- people who can empathize with them, or merely tell them that what they wrote had some sort of impact on their life.

there is no privacy. there is no intimate relationship. but there is no risk of rejection.

  • Xanga is the place where all your inhibitions dissapear.

  • Xanga is my fix, my journal, my soapbox. It is my connection to people I already know and people I’m meeting. It is another facet of my identity. It is a little bit of self-expression mixed with a “community thoughts” kind of mindset. It is The Ultimate Peanut Gallery.

I love Xanga. Almost enough to pay for it, hehehe

  • The most visited site on my computer.

  • I see xanga as being a medium through which I can post my daily thoughts and opinions on stuff that matters–not just to me, but–to many people of varied backgrounds. I like to keep a semblence of a “journal” as well, for future reference when I want to remember what I was doing on such-and-such a date, two-thousand-and-something.

  • Xanga is a weblog where you can

    A) voice an opinion
    B) vent about the days frustrations
    C) meet new friends who claim to be 18 year old girls, but could quite possibly be 50 year old men
    D) keep in touch with your friend who is only 2 miles away
    OR
    E) all of the above

    The choice is yours.

  • It’s so dynamic, I have no idea.

  • Xanga is a blog. Duh!

  • Xanga is a community of very opinionated people.

  • Not sure, but somehow I think your site is part of the definition

  • It’s my place to relax and unwind.

    Candy

  • Xanga is an online community where participants can journal, share pictures, videos, audios, and so much more! It is a way to connect with friends, family, and the world.

  • An overall waste of time.

And everyone of you guys know it.

  • a place to show the me inside that no one ever really sees :]

  • a place for people to bitch, moan, and provide news.

(that’s not an attack against your site- the providing news is a good thing)
but it is still a journal that people use. it’s just more widely known for emo kids to hang out and be stupid.

  • i like what adriane said: its a place of intellectual freedom.

  • Ha, Dan. You have somewhat of a southern accent, eh? Not me, good ‘ol nasal northerner.

  • Xanga is safer than Myspace

  • Xanga:  An online community, where people can: ask, shout and scream, or even whisper, what’s on their mind.

The original sentence you qouted Dan, would be difficult to update…as it still remains very true.

(contest on my blog: check it out…………..shameless plug)

  • I look at it as a creative outlet, a time waister, and a fun way to be nosey!

  • Xanga™ : Xanga is an online service specifically designed to steal the souls from those who use it. But let’s face it; there are far-worse things you could be giving your soul over to. Country music, for instance.

  • Intellectual freedom?!  More like a place of intellectual irresponsibility.

  • a form of bolt but flipped out and gone retarded; in a good way.

  • A place I spend too much time visiting. :)

  • a place for expressing thoughts

  • a diverse community and blog

  • Xanga is a good site trying to be like MySpace. Blah. I liked it before the changes. >=|

  • Xanga is a place where I spend all my time.  Therefore it must be special.

everyone be sure and check out the following site

        why

    It’s peoples writings on xanga.

  • A cult. Definitely.

  • procrastination at its best.

  • it’s a blog… you voice your opinion and hear others… you can share or criticize… it’s addictive, it’s awesome =D

  • Xanga is slowly being taken over by Facebook and Myspace, but we know it’s really the best if you take the time to appreciate it.

  • I don’t get what’s outdated or wrong w/ the description above…

  • eXtremely Awesome Ninja GAnster.

  • Xanga is…a huge waste of our time?

Actually, Xanga is many things to many people.

  • I really like what “Christian is as Jesus Does” wrote. I was going to write something else, but his answer is way better than mine, lol.

                                                                                    -KrIsTiN-

  • weblog first. social network second.

  • i met the love of my life on xanga. all because you can be yourself on here, and that way when u meet a xanga friend face to face u don’t have to wear a mask. this being true with me and my boy

  • i saw it once already……..an addiction.

  • a community of online diaries and journals

  • Xanga is my outlet.

  • Xanga is a world-wide community of people sharing their hopes, thoughts, nightmares and dreams with everyone and no one.

  • A place where you can use your own style of blogging whether it be reporting on current events or journal entries…or anything else.  And it’s a place where you can real about other peoples’ encounters and make new friends.

  • Xanga is a tightly knit community where bloggers exchange ideas and opinions. Gold is not exchanged, but eProps are!

  • Social networking site where people interact to exchange information, feelings, photos, music and video.

  • What is Xanga?  What does the word Xanga mean?  No one knows.

  • a place where people show off

  • ” Xanger Management “ ….

  • I consider xanga to be a blog, the other bloging mediums are hard to use, so I use this.

  • Xanga is “good” to My Space’s “evil”^_^ Xanga is “Obiwan” and My Space is “Darth”(lol, Darth is such an”emo” sounding name)

  • a blog site that allows you to create and customize your own journal/diary, host pictures in photo blogs, share videos, join groups, and connect with others.

  • That definition sounds right for journal sites like mine where i just talk about what’s happening for hte sake of my friends.  Eprop-whores where the posts are designed for maximum comments are left out.

No one meets anyone on xanga.

  • A unique quiet little blog corner of the world for each to make our own.

  • Blog service provider.

  • a place for my writings and artistic visions

  • Xanga is a place where people go to take notes on life.

  • Xanga is cool.
