Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?
“Red meat is not bad for you. Now blue-green meat, that’s bad for you!”
A substantial amount of Dan’s “fans” don’t so much read his entire posts. It’s interesting that some people comment that they think his posts are “stupid”. Do they need attention or are they just jealous that they don’t get the amount of comments that Dan does? Anyway, I was pondering the whole trusting a perfect stranger with the password thing myself when Dan asked me to be his Guest Poster. I knew that he trusted me enough not to delete the Jesus Rabbit picture, change his layout to pretty sparkly pink hearts though or to change his profile pic. I’ve enjoyed my stay and look forward to Dan’s return. Thanks for having me….Over and out from TheGreenPanther.
The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is clearing the way for the possibility of meat and milk being sold to the general public. They are saying that the milk and meat of cloned animals are “indistinguishable” from noncloned animals. The thinking is that people may have either ethical or physical concerns about eating cloned food.
Would you feel comfortable eating cloned food?
Comments (171)
Not really.
Woo, first. *insert sarcastic voice here* my life has been validated. Go me. *end sarcasm*
I would have no problem with it.
As long as I’m still eating an animal, I don’t honestly care.
your post is stupid and yes im jealous and need attention LOL
i don’t think i would eat it. it would bring a whole new meaning too “wow, that piece of meat tastes exactly like the one from the other night!”
As long as there is no genetic manipulation I don’t see why it wouldn’t be safe.
well…
food is food
seems rather strange to me; like something from the Twilight Zone. Do you know if the foods will be marked as Cloned MEAT or whatever; or will the consumer not have any idea if its a ‘real cow’ or a ‘cloned cow’ …
Cloning scares me … People reproducing is scary enough sometimes (_8-(|) Doh!
well idk? but omgsh! im on the 1st page! yipee skippo!
I wouldnt have a problem.
When I first subscribed, all I read was the final question, and answered it with a quick “yes” or “no”, but I read the entire things now. Its interesting to read the comments, too.
mmmm
Yes, a bit. And honestly, I don’t think I would trust it. Who knows what repercussions involved in eating it could be discovered later in life?
I don’t think i would. Too weird
Well as long as it was born and taised in a healthy way, i wouldnt mind owever i would like eating natural meat better.
I’d be alright with it, I think. If it was safe, which it should be… I mean, it’s the same animal, right? But I don’t know the facts, so I probably am not the best person to judge.
Cloned food would not be my first choice. No matter what the studies say….it’s just weird.
oh hell no. that’s sooo freaking disgusting.
What’s the problem?
if i didn’t know it was cloned, then i wouldn’t care. but that is so fking weird.
i have that picture. I love it.
I think I would be skeptical, though I would have no valid reason why.
And how’s it going, TheGreenPanther? =)
oh, and once, I did ask a vegetarian if she ate animal crackers. she does.
Sounds weird..
As long as I don’t somehow get vibrated into a million peices by eating it then no.
No I don’t think I’d be comfortable eating cloned food. :-
sure, why not?
All meat of the same kind tastes the same anyway. Sure
Cloned food. Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, all these apples are actually clones. Every Granny Smith won’t taste the same if people would fertilise the apples like nature intended. But cloned animals are kinda different, I admit. I believe that people can get used to anything.
…and pink sparkles would be great
Being a vegetarian means I don’t have to worry about such things.
Unless they start cloning carrots or peas! Wait. Do they already do that?
Sure. I wish the could clone just the meat so that we wouldn’t have to kill the animals. Sort of like a test tube steak maybe.
Of course. That is, if it’s guarenteed that an arm won’t grow out of my head or something.
hell no I’m not gonna be comfortable. I like meat and dairy products, but I try to eat consciously…organic if you will. No cruelty, etc.
Yes I sure to. I like meat.
We need a food thingy like Star Trek has!
If it’s tasty, I will eat it.
Um, no.
they can barly clone a goet im not woried about cloned food. Besides if it is cloned then ohh well. If i am ment to die from bad cloned meat then so be it if im not then yay go me.
Xx-Nicole-xX
I’m not sure… food is messed with so much these days, would it really matter?
i dunno if id be able to trust nothing will happen
No, too creepy for me.
I don’t really see why not.
Would we know it was cloned?
It sounds so… unnatural. Which is awkward. Like eating a robot… only different.
[But yes, I do read the whole post... and the first page of comments.]
I don’t believe I’d care….unless something odd came up in the news, perhaps. =P
yeah. i don’t don’t support complete cloning what so ever.
I always read the entire post. I just don’t necessarily comment on it’s entirety.
I don’t suppose I’d have a problem eating cloned meat. The idea sounds somewhat strange, but I haven’t heard anything bad about it….yet…
It would be too weird. I think the whole thought of cloning freaks me out. I don’t like it. I think people should let the Lord do his job, creating the world, and everybody else should do theirs.
Oops, and I meant to add, I think pretty sparkly pink hearts would look awfully cute.
no, I mean if somebody told me I was eating that I might pause for a second, but I’d keep eating, I cant find anything wrong with it
no…isnt it the same??
&& i meant yess…not no…its totally fine w. me
Cloned animals are EXACTLY the same as the animal that the nucleus was taken from, if there was no problem with the original animal then there would be absolutely no problem with the clone. Therefore I would have absolutely no problem with eating a cloned animal whether I knew it was cloned or not.
I am not sure how I would feel about it, that’s why I think the FDA should require it to be labeled. I posted about this yesterday
eh….its awkward to even think about. how do we know it will really be safe? will the public later on find out that cloned meat has the ability to produce cancer cells quicker than, say, smoking?? will it cause tumors?
I don’t think I would be comfortable with it.
As long as it tasted the same and wouldn’t do funky things to my body, I’m good with it.
No, it would creep me out. Also because I don’t eat meat.
no its a bit scary
Definitely not. God made natural foods for us to eat. The more natural, the better.
no. I hope that they are required to label cloned meat.
I’m largely vegetarian, and I usually do not eat animal crackers, simply because I don’t like them. I will, however, DEVOUR animal-shaped fruit snacks (which technically have geletin in them, but I don’t care)
Gross!
But I do eat fish sometimes, and if I was in the mood for some seafood, a little cloning wouldn’t hurt anything, especially if it meant I was less likely to be eating an animal that had suffered from some disgusting disease.
No way. But I wouldn’t feel comfortable eating meat or drinking milk either. . .
NO!!! But then, I’m uncomfortable with most of what the FDA approves. If I weren’t a strapped-for-cash recent grad, I’d only eat organic and kosher meats! Wait – can meat be organic? I think so. Anyway, this is why people on lower incomes are all fat and unhealthy, as per today’s headline in the Chicago Tribune. I feel like I’m putting my life on the line every time I go to the grocery store!!!
Seriously?
“Sure. I wish the could clone just the meat so that we wouldn’t have to kill the animals. Sort of like a test tube steak maybe.
Posted 12/29/2006 3:36 PM by UR_MUSE”
Something about the phrase test tube steak…. GAG. /goes to get a mop bucket. XD
yO, rAnDoM pRoPZ..
Now back to the subject at hand…
I have no moral problems with the whole cloning thing but I want further testing on the meat before I eat it.
No, I’m a vegetarian.
Animal crackers aren’t flesh. ;D
How would the public know? Will there be a label or something like that on it?
I barely trust the last little bit of milk in the gallon I bought yesterday. ‘I dunno, I allways have to smell it to make sure that it hasn’t magicly gone bad in the 24 hours from whence It was purchesed and consumed. If I have a problem with this, you bet I’ll have a problem with cloned animals.
yes unless it was green that would look sick
Yes. Hell, you’ll eat McDonalds right? That’s for sure not any more natural.
I think some people are just in too big of a hurray to read posts that are summed up in one question. I like reading yours though but I have a lot of extra time to read the entire post right now. Its been interesting.
So long as its the same, I don’t care if my food is cloned or not.
That’s freaky. I hope they put warning labels on that sort of thing.
Yep. How do I know that isn’t what I’ve been eating anyway? Something to think about….
Sounds tasty. Bring me some cloned lamb.
Sounds tasty. Bring me some cloned lamb.
No, I’m scared enough of the stuff we have on the market already.
I wouldn’t mind cloned food. I wouldn’t mind cloned food.
Sure…I’ll try almost anything once
No. If cloned food starts being put onto market, without any labeling to indicate that it comes from a cloned animal, I’m going vegan. Not a hardship, but not something I’d be thrilled about.(and yes, they do eat animal crackers. and they hate that joke)
As long as I don’t know about it. I don’t eat red meat anyway. So that is no big deal. But when they start cloning chickens, then I’m going to be pissed.
No, I would not. Not sure why though.
It makes me want to buy a farm and raise my own stuff…
Scary very scary!
If I were you I would prolly change the pass word!
Only if it tastes like chicken.
No.
nope
Several of my friends and I are vegetarians, and we relish animal crackers.
I’m not so much uncomfortable with eating cloned food as I am worried about the effects of GMF’s (and most cloned foods are GMF’s) on the environment.
Let’s save cloning food for when we don’t have anymore real stuff…
-Jacob
and of course they eat animal crackers…xD
nahh…i’ll have to pass on the cloned food :-/
We’re already eating genetically altered food; just not genetically altered meat (yet). I personally don’t really care.
As for Dan’s entries, he knows what I think of them and why.
Probably not.
As a vegetarian, I would totally eat cloned animal crackers!
“Food is food to me….almost. Tofu doesn’t count.”
i wouldnt eat it. i’d stop going to cheap fast food places as well for fear they’d have it in their food. and i enjoyed your posts mr. panther.
did you know that twins are clones? its just a natural cloning, and not in a lab
No, I wouldn’t eat it if I could help it. I’m not against cloning, but I think food should be produced in a more natural way rather than scientific. It’s just such a big change so fast, even if I couldn’t TASTE a difference. It’s like the difference between diet soda and regular.
yes
Aww, how sweet – hope you enjoyed taking over for him = )
Definitely wouldn’t be eating any cloned meat, icky!
I think the meat industry is already overdoing it. I’m in the process of going vegetarian, and I haven’t eaten red meat since July.
But I don’t see why a person who has no ethical dilemma eating a non-cloned animal would suddenly have issues eating a clone. The animals that go into the meat they already eat are born for the sole purpose of being slaughtered eventually, as would clones.
P.S. I just ate animal crackers this afternoon. They were delicious.
And Dan’s site could use some sparkly pink hearts.
i love cloned foods. i eat them everyday.
Weeeeeeird.
I’ve always found Dan’s posts to be intriguing.
And no, I wouldn’t feel comfortable.
That’s nastier than eating regular meat.
Which, btw, I like eating regular meat. But I mean, if you’re a vegitarian, wouldn’t you think that was nastier than eating regular uncloned meat?
I mean…. who knows what went wrong with that cloning process. Ew, sick nasty.
I’ll stick with good old natural uncloned meat.
Cloned food wow… The more cholesterol, food poisoning and leftovers the merrier.. .Does this give new meaning to the term LEFT OVERS?
ah yes, and this:
“Red meat is not bad for you. Now blue-green meat, that’s bad for you!”
Quite funny. But I don’t get why people think red-meat is bad for you. Red meat saved my life. Red meat is high in iron, and I was fatally aniemic (meaning I need more iron), and since spinach (the only other food with that much iron in it) tastes like complete crap, I was saved by swallowing iron pills and eating red meat.
So see, red meat isn’t that bad for you =D
haha, that’s funny. I read the whole thing!
heck no! I don’t think I could do that, and I highly reccomend that they put a seal on the meat stating whether it’s cloned or was “naturally reproduced.” Eating meat that was (in a way) human-made, is quite disgusting if you think about it.
I agree. They need attention.
And I really don’t think I could get past the fact that it was cloned. It’s like when I tried buffalo-it didn’t taste bad but yuck, buffalo. I just couldn’t do it.
We wouldn’t know if we were eating cloned food so I guess we better get over feeling uncomfortable. I really don’t care. We hardly know what is in our food now so….whatever.
(animated sparkly pink hearts, if any!
)
I honestly don’t care. Meat is meat. But I would care if the meat was gmf. I understand that most foods today are GM, but It’s for preservation and other reasons I may not wanna know. but if it’s edible, healthy, and not blue-green, go for it.
Hell no
I’d rather not – but if you can’t tell the difference – maybe we’re eating it already.
P.S. I always read Dan’s entire posts – Just wanted to clear that up!!
Happy New Year!!
I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I mean in one glance, I think “What’s the difference?” I mean cloned is an exact copy and therefore it is the same. No big. As long as it is the same, then we’re good.
But then there’s the second thought. How do we, the general public, know there’s no slight genetic difference that could mean the difference between having a hearty, wholesome meal and BOOM YOU’RE DEAD! I mean… It’s taken them years to get the cloning thing down (and I don’t think they’ve even gotten it down yet; I don’t keep up with these things you know) but the clones before don’t live as long and I don’t know why, but maybe that means that milk I just gulped down has something weird going on with it and now I’ve got some weird disease that no one understands and I’m going to die within the next 10 days. WOO HOO! GO CLONING! YEAH WE’RE NUMBER ONE!
How should I know, I’m no genetic/cloning specialist. But the whole idea sounds a little fishy.
that would be a little creepy. what if there was something wrong that nobody had noticed until i ate it and died?
As long if it brings me some superpowers, It’s fine with me!
http://www.myspace.com/bittersweetallure
A little too wierd for me to think of even trying..I am for real food all the way..
Post about Saddam dammit.
Saddam is dead!!!!!!
and there’s nothing wrong with cloned food. good stuff as long as it’s healthy.
I don’t wanna get cancer!
I really don’t understand the science behind it. It would take me a while to get comfortable with the possibility that I was eating meat from cloned animals, but I have no scientific reasons for my discomfort.
Sure. It’s just like talking to people who were born after in-vitro fertilization. Unnatural, but not really bad.
dan, saddam just was hanged.
I doubt anyone will read this but it bothers me that the networks are giving more press to Saddam than to Ford’s life/death.
as long as it was organic meat. and the animals were humanely killed
I’d eat cloned food if it was really just the same as regular food. I think so long as they put warning labels on cloned ,eat and stuff, then everything would be alright? They could sell it for cheaper, at least.
hey, news flash for everyone, arab TV claims that Saddam has been executed. Go to my site if you want the link.
I’m a vegetarian, I wouldnt mind eating cloned tofu buffolo wings, as long as they are still tasty. I wanted to write “tastey”. I blame Fergie.
i could care less, it goes in one way comes out the other. just dont tell them they’re eating cloned or not, if its indisguisable they wont know, so why tell.
umm, I don’t eat meat, and so, I don’t have the issue with the cloned cow, and milk, I could care less. But, I suppose if I did, I might have an issue. But, they fuck with our food so much now days. Genetic modification and all that jazz. So, really, when you think about it, I’d rather have cloned food than genetically modified. But, really, I think people should just leave well enough alone and stop screwing with our food!!!
As long as it’s not pumped full of hormones, I don’t see a problem.
No.
ehhhhhhhh.
i know it most likely would not taste any different than normal meat.
HOWEVER, the whole idea is just repulsing.
You did a grea job here!
and why aren’t people talking about saddam. that’s a bit more important at the moment.
No doubt chemicals would be used to do the cloning…so I’d rather not.
No, but more than likely it will happen without my knowing it.
not really… it’d creep me out
lol who is that in the middle there?? someone stole your account!!
I am going to avoid eating cloned food.
it seems strange, but hey, it’s still food.
Yes! Oh, yes, yes! Waitaminnut! Did you say clowned? Or cloned? Oh, well, doesn’t really matter. Dang!
I don’t like the idea of cloneing in and of it’s self so the idea of eating cloned meat makes me shudder….
Time to go vegetarian, I think.
Well I don’t eat meat at all, so this doesn’t really mean much to me.
Cloned animal milk however seems a little . . . idk, there’s been studies saying that it’s perfectly alright, it’s just like . .. it seems gnarley.
I don’t eat meat period, and cloned meat is just as bad, and still a living animal.
I haven’t eaten animal crackers in years. :]
Well, I’m a vegetarian, and I eat animal crackers :]
I read the whole post, thank you very much, and I’m not at all jealous that Dan gets so many comments.
I don’t eat meat, anyways, so it doesn’t matter if the meat were cloned or not cloned.
By the way, you’ve been doing a good job posting, TheGreenPanther
-KrIsTiN-
no, thats creepy
No no no!! I don’t want it!! There have been too many things that are “completely safe” and then later we find out there actually WAS a reason to limit consumption of it & oops, sorry, you have cancer. I don’t wanna do it- that’s scary. Indistinguishable, for now… until they find something down the road that causes cancer, or birth defects, or whatever else, when consumed by humans. No thanks.
Sure!
shit from cows in general is horrible for you.
http://www.notmilk.com
I would never eat cloned food but if it taste good and it’s the only thing to eat, come to papa!
Only if they can clone gummi bears too…
That’d be REALLY odd… I’d be willing to try it once, though.
I don’t think his posts are stupid, I enjoy them
And I don’t think I’d have a problem with it, as long as there weren’t side effects or anything.
ya but I want to know before I eat it that its a fake.
Yes. I really don’t see a problem with it.
cloning is wrong.
no.
um. well. to answer your first question- yes vegetarians do eat animal crackers. they are yummy.
being a vegetarian i would still not eat the meat unless they could assure me that the animal would feel no pain. we should talk in depth about this one day. email me.
It kind of sounds creepy, but i guess it could be a good thing in the future and help with poverty and such…still it would give it that whole sci-fi feel to eating it lol
I think I’d rather not, but look at all the “Un natural” things we eat already
It’s interesting that some people comment that they think his posts are “stupid”.
I’ve seen some *very* bizarre outbursts of hostility from total strangers… I think it goes with the territory of having a big audience. A few of them are bound to be insane.
It’s still meat. What would be creepy is finding out that you ate cloned meat, and the original meat!
That’d be a little strange. no, I don’t think I would.
why does it matter if most pple cant tell if its cloned or not….. what
so they want to put a sign on the meat “HEY IM CLONED”
can you taste the difference …
does it smell different…
is gonna make you fall on the floor and convulse?
probably not
so why worry ….
You know, I know this steak doesn’t exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize? Ignorance is bliss.
nope.
