12-Years-Old
A convicted sex offender, who was really 29, pretended to be 12 years old in order to enroll in two middle schools.
He sat in classes and turned in homework. His name is Neil Havens Rodreick II. It is said that he was quiet. “He turned in his homework. There were no discipline issues. He was never sent to the principals office.”
School officials realize they made a huge mistake and are working to fix the problem. So they sent out a letter to the parents saying “locks had been added to security gates and the school was working on a task force to evaluate parents’ suggestions on school safety.” (No word on if they will add common sense when they add the locks). In my experience as a middle school teacher, I can safely assert that there is now such thing as a 12-year-old “look”. If you try to guess ages in a 7th grade class, you are doomed to failure. The biggest, hairiest boys with moustaches may be only eleven-and-a-half. The fifteen-year-old 3-time flunkie may look like he’s really only seven. The Wonder Years are a time of growth spurts and hormones and craziness. A sex-offender could blend in seamlessly. But don’t parents have to enroll him at his school?

This was in private and charter schools? Those schools do not have to take anyone they don’t want to. It is very sad that they let him in. Why do they think that putting locks on the doors and gates will help? They let him enroll and he was a student, therefore locks would have not affect I do not believe. The most disturbing thing to me is that a parent from one of the schools said that she thinks the school will soon be the safest in the country. Apparently no one down there realizes that common sense and the action of thinking is better than any lock will ever be.
In response to the question: I do not think that he looks 12. I would guess late teens or early twenties if I saw him on the street.

In other news, my best friend’s little boy is 12 and looks like he’s at least 17. He’s a giant, very tall, not skinny, just right and has hair in all of the appropriate places.
