Youtube
Youtube has announced that they will begin to share revenue with those who are creating content on youtube. They have not announced how they will do this exactly. Here is the link: Link
There is a concern that revenue-sharing “would build a community of users motivated by making money.”
I see what the marketers are doing to myspace.
Do marketers who are trying to make money ruin social network sites like youtube and myspace?

fuck myspace.
you like Google Wii and CNN does to xanga?
They really do. When you’re higher in the ranks, people want to get you.
nah. their stuff is easy enough for other users to ignore.
Yes. Most definitely
I think that it depends on what people hope to get out of the networking sites. When some people use a site for x, y, or, z, while other users care only about making money, that can ruin the site from the persepective of those who have purposes other than making money. But that’s true of almost anything and not just social networking sites.
absolutely. When it becomes a market tool, it’s nolonger a social network. The people you are interacting with are nolonger mere people, but economically focused entities.
I’m an engineer. I have no idea what i’m talking about when it comes to business. But I just can’t see how people will be able to continue interacting with others with the same level of openness and trust when so many people are on there with advertising agendas.
captialism at it’s best… why give away something for free that people will pay for?
Well, youtube will probably become more about making money…so I guess it’ll change the environment some way, make it less personable even.
I say yes.
I want Xanga to stop trying to make me go premium.
Are they going to give money to regular people, though? People who make popular videos?
Thewinekone is going to be freaking rich.
It depends on how it’s handled. Facebook has done a good job of keeping it to a minimum.
That is so fucked up!
Yes, they are.
Fuckin corporate greed.
They’re going to share revenue? No way!
I prefer to stick with facebook. All they have is a small easy to ignore ad on the side of the page that you can block from appearing if you want/know how. but yeah, I can see marketers ruining social sites like that
Yes.
They ever think about going near Xanga, that’d be the end times.
Pretty soon on blog sites it will cost money to enter the site or to even write a post.
Corporate America ruined the term “social networking”.
They need to leave the internet alone.
Everyone wants to be involved in a good thing. And hey, if you can make some money at it, why not?
Actually, I don’t agree with the last part too much. I think there are times were things should just be for the sake of being..without having to be done for the sake of making money.
I don’t know if it will ruin the sites, but they will change….and if they change too much, something else will spring up to take their place.
The solicitation on MySpace is annoying; a lot of my friend requests are from companies trying to sell me on some product or program. On the other hand, I feel that money is a great incentive. Many people would probably go out of their way to create a lot of great content if they were getting paid for it. Are you getting paid for what you do Dan? You should be. It must take a lot of effort.
yes
Qui!
i still want a cat…
yes i can see marketing interfering with social networking sites.
Money always messes things up. . .
Money
It’s evil
It’s green
And people eye it not just with green eyes
But with blue eyes, brown eyes. Black eyes?
How many fights, how many squabbles
have been because of money?
Wanting more
Tore
Between working overtime
Or not
And enjoying yourself
Enjoying life
Money
You spend it
You buy
And you like for a little
but then you need more
For what you have is now a bore
So you buy more
You get more
And the more you have
The less you appreciate all you have
So the more you need
The more you want
The more you get
Till you’re bankrupt.
: [
yeah they definetly do. as long as they dont start infringing on xanga and facebook im happy
Yeah, but they were pretty messed up to begin with. So whatever.
I think sites sometimes lose credibility when money is involved. Less about community, more about greed.
NO, it’s called Capitalism!
Until there’s enough of a market for people to do things differently, they won’t be done differently. The Capitalist endeavors to provide the service that his customers want!
HIGH SCHOOL ROCKS!!! YAY! I just started High School…uh…two weeks ago, I think, and I’m lovin it! I go to an all girls school. I get really pissed when people say that all girls or all boys schools make you homosexual. You get homosexuals in ANY school!
Do you think you’re more likely to become gay when not attending a co-ed school?
That was on Mysterious_Pigeon ‘s Xanga. I’m conducting my own survey on your site. Sorry.
That waxing video makes me cringe! Man… the pain of beauty!
Yes.
Yes! It changes everything…
No, they improve it.
I do like the idea of revenue sharing, but i don’t think it would improve video content. I’ve found that the videos with ads are pretty much the same as the videos without ads. Most are uncreative, boring, and pointless; who really wants to top all that off with a commerical?
Myspace was always destined for ruin ; )
ugh, yes.
yes and no. I found myspace about two months before it blew up into something huge and I LIKED it back then. Now, not so much. because there are more and more ads and it just feels over-rated now. I don’t use YouTube(beyond listening to music videos while working on school at the library), so I dunno if the marketing strategy will screw that over. But everybody caves into marketing eventually-if you look at parts of Facebook, or even little sites(I love this one music blog search engine and now every time I look up a band, it gives me google style sponsored links), they all have some sort of marketing thing to them. My main complaint about Facebook(especially after having read about it) is that, A, if someone wants prints of my pictures, THEY get all the money and, B, apparently they ‘own’ the pictures you put up there.
In the end(this is my new theme song), corporations care about the money they make, not how they make it or who it effects(affects?).
I think I went off topic… oh, well.
yes.
money corrupts ppl.
I don’t know, I don’t use either of those sites but I imagine that it would get really annoying awfully quick. If some marketers are creative enough to make the advertisement interesting and interactive, then maybe not.
INDEED…its all about getting traffic to a site and then having a captive audience to market your gidget gadget widget to them and make some money. My thing is.. if I need something or want to buy something I know where to go to find it when I decide I want to buy it… These banner adds and what not don’t do thing for me except annoy me LOL.
Youtube is a great place to allow people to make a fool of themself, share their thoughts and ideas with the world. I think that would be hampered if youtube started paying people for posting content.
ps- that wxing video is hilarious…. the things women do to their bodies…. and the ONE dude in there.. he was hilarious.. and theother chic speaking a foreign language… saying she was going to sue the wax lady… priceless…. how did they film that though with out the people knowing?
the corporates are going to take over the world…..
hmmm.i think it’ll definetley make things different…
having a good weekend?
*HUGS*
Could mess it up.
i hate the truth accounts on here.
however i like there ads on tv…….
but stay the fuck off xanga please.
yes and no
Yes- These days people don’t support something they don’t like even if a majority of a population does and then tries to sue.
No-big companies help sponsor stuff we like
What’s wrong with being paid to do something you enjoy doing? Wouldn’t it be cool to make a video of your friends and then get paid for it? Or to get more from making that big long video than “Good job!” comments below your video?
I hate the capitalist system…grrrrr…
There is a fine line between capitalism and greed that is all to often crossed. It’s greed and people’s inherent tendancy toward moral failure that corrupts, not the green paper stuff.
Yes I hate ads
With or without marketers, Myspace is rubbish.
Xanga doesn’t charge much for premium, and if you pay you can legitimately clain to own the service, and they shouldn’t then throw advertising at you, because they have their revenue stream.
Myspace is given for free, so they can do what they want.
Not as long as people can continue doing what they are doing for free and for the love.
ryc: i know, i know, but im still in.
Yep, but I really don’t care anymore.
Besides, Myspace is dumb. *sticks out tongue*
There are already WAAAAY too many stupid videos on there as it is….I’d hate for the site just be overwhelmed with them. I hope they give out the money judiciously.
People can make more money submitting videos to Current TV. If it’s get on the air, you get $500. The only drawback is that you have to submit your videos in on VHS but the good thing is my digital camera can hook up to the tv…so I can record my videos on VHS!
What is wrong with making money?
Yup.
You gotta make money somehow, and yet money is the root of almost all problems.
involve money in any social enterprise and it goes into the crapper
I don’t know, I’ve never found it hard to ignore.
I have no idea
can you ruin myspace?
I will continue to visit friends’ and family’s sites. I don’t care if there are commercial sites.
I laughed at “corporate greed.” People who hate corporate greed go to McDonald’s and want every penny of their paycheck (I’m not saying they work at McDonald’s; these are 2 different items). Corporations make buying things cheaper. I go to Wal-Mart (though I hate going) over some mom and pop store because it’s a better deal. Long live corporations.
YES! I hate when they delete content that violates copyrights too.
