  • Taylor Hicks

I was reading an article on yahoo about Taylor Hicks.  They were asking the question of whether Taylor Hicks was the first “Idol” fluke.  Apparently his album hasn’t done well.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Fluorescent License Plates

Republicans and Democrats in Ohio are uniting to force convicted sex offenders to use a “fluorescent-green license plate on their cars” so that people will easily be able to identify them.  A few states are reported to have them already for drunken drivers.

The plates will make it easier for police to track them.  Some are concerned that the law would “stigmatize” those who were in the car with them such as their spouse and children.  Here is the link:  Link

Should convicted sex offenders be required to have special license plates to make it easy to identify them?

  • Aliens

A state legislator in Florida wants to ban the term “illegal alien” from state official documents.  Sen Frederica Wilson say that the term “alien” is offensive.  She finds it especially offensive when it is applied to children.  Here is the link:  Link  I think we should go with the term “temporary visitors visiting without permission from another country.”  It is sort of long but it is catchy.

Is the term alien offensive when applied to illegal immigrants?

  • Obesity and Child Neglect

A story that has been in the news is concerning a boy who weighed 218 pounds at 8 years old.

Image: Connor McCreaddie and Nicola McKeown

Social workers were threatening to take the child away saying it was because he was being neglected.  They were concerned about his eating habits.  His mother claimed he always ate a high volume of food and he just naturally grew.  There are those who feel that the child was being singled out because of some of the stigma associated with obesity.  Here is the link:  Link

In the article I was reading related to this story was the question “Is it neglect to let a child become obese?”

  • Baby

I was reading a story about a baby who was two weeks old.

Woody Lander with mum Karen and dad Jon

His name was Woody.  Woody was in the supermarket with his mom and dad.  All of a sudden they realized he was cold.  They called emergency and they took him to the hospital.  The doctors and nurses worked on him for 30 minutes.  But they just couldn’t revive him.  So they told his parents there was nothing they could do and then allowed his parents in to hold him one last time.

All of a sudden, Woody began to breath again.  Woody is now 14 months old.  Here is the link:  Link

  • Comments

Hi, this is Dan’s wife again.  I’ve had the chance to read a few comments today.  There is a mystery that I don’t understand as a person who doesn’t blog.

Would someone explain to me the purpose for celebrating who’s first?

  • Height and Weight Requirement

Hi, this is the Dan’s wife. I’m updating for him today. A friend of mine was recently denied medical insurance.  When she called the insurance company the customer service operator told her to drop 30 pounds.  She was obviously devastated.

Is it discrimination to deny someone health insurance because of weight?

  • Dick Cheney Part 2

As I mentioned in my last post, the Taliban apparently tried to kill Vice President Dick Cheney.  Here is the link:  Link

If the Taliban had killed Dick Cheney, who would you have liked to see as President Bush’s new Vice President?

  • Dick Cheney

The Taliban tried to kill Dick Cheney.

The Vice President was visiting a U.S. military base in Afghanistan and a suicide bomber killed at least 14 people.  The Taliban is taking responsibility for the attack and have said that Dick Cheney was the target.

  • 9 out of 10

“Your score is 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. You are a True Believer in President Bush. Your loyalty and devotion to him is matched only by your desire to see his liberal detractors locked away and declared enemy combatants. Given the chance, you’d gladly vote Bush a third term, and if America were so blessed, you’d be perfectly content if Bush were president for life.”
