Spare the Shock, Spoil the Child
Thewashingtonpost.com is reporting that China is treating young people who spend too much time on the internet with shock treatments.
(This is a picture of a 12-year old boy who is said to be receiving shock treatments for internet addiction).
China is trying to stop internet addiction from spreading so they are going to extreme measures. Here is the link: Link

Oh wow.
wow.China.
gina
Damn.
I’d get shocked real good if I lived there haha…
My cousin, for the past two years, is 27 years old and has spent most of his nights on the internet. His mother was really worried after a while, so now they’re putting him in an institution.. :
Sign into ‘Starcraft’ and you’ll see just how many Asians are online all the time -.-
Electro-shock seems slightly inhumane
‘This is for your own good’
Ok that just makes China seem downright stupid
THAT IS BRILLIANT.
Let’s do it to Meth addicts, Sex addicts, Alcoholics, and Communists like Hillary!
go world of the future!
Akania,.
that kid has huge feet….
dang, that’s crazy. what’s next, halo anonymous?
I’m kind of glad they’re doing something about it, but shocks? Yipes.
Way to go Communism!!!
poor kids.
China. Land of human rights violations. Is anyone surprised?
Can lobotomies be too far behind?
They sure are serious. Can the kids turn the parents in…if they are addicted also?
i need that treatment
Gross feet.
lol.
uh… are you trying to kick everybody off the internet?
whats up with all the internet cutting down posts? =P
I bet it makes Jesus sad that we all spend so much time goofing off when we could be boosting our spiritual knowledge.
I find it ironic that you’re posting this on the internet…
holy SHIT.
i’d be in trouble.
and that kid has HUGE feet.
Finally, a cure for me.
Finally. A solution.
wtf?
that is just wrong.
that’s rather…
sad…
RYC: You are such a young pup, Dan!
China scares me.
Communist torture much?
That is extremely twisted and evil, but then what can you expect from Red China, the modern world’s most accomplished police state. Add psychiatry (a wholly profit driven quack science empowered to smother all human rights with relative impunity)and you have the perfect foundations for comprehensive social tyranny.
Perfect example of why you don’t want the government deciding what is best for you.
Sounds like fun to me. My friends and I do that kind of thing to each other as it is, so what’s the big deal? Haha.
I guess the asian folks aren’t going to dominate the featured content list anymore, eh?
Gee, that’s brilliant.
What the devil… what a nice omen for a future superpower.
dumb
i would have a constant buzz emanating from me if i lived in china. well, i’m glad i live in the LAND OF THE FREE!!! and the HOME OF THE BRAVE!!
Ouch! I’m pretty much addicted to the internet, so I’m glad that doesn’t happen here!
my, oh my how we need to pray for China.
Bet the U.S. will follow suit here soon.
sounds like something you need, mr. *i update this xanga every few hours*
Please, they’re just doing it so that they won’t run the risk of having people exposed to anything other than their xenophobic, communist clap-trap. I mean, how many people really have internet addiction? How prevalent is it?
That’s just a little extreme.
clearly this country will never support online public schools. and maybe its actually a way to keep them from finding anti-China stuff/punish kids that HAVE been looking for anti-China stuff? could be some weird experiment that they plan on using on the whole country.
Maybe they should just like cut the power to this kid’s house as opposed to lighting him up like xmas?
You have to understand their culture before you judge them. They’re very different. And beside, the US used the same treatments to treat depression and such not so long ago.
This actually seems like a good idea. I would suggest that we use it over here but that likely would include me and without a doubt would include you Dan both of which would be less than desirable. Inhumane it could be considered but a little pain can go a long way towards altering behavior.
Well, we all know the outstanding record China has with human rights. Yeah, right.
be prepared.
i give the United States a year before they catch on and do the same thing…
It’s so sad that internet addiction has gotten so bad. I think I’m going to take a vacation from the internet now.
Oh my god. -_-
“China scares me.
Communist torture much?”
Nope, actually. You’d be surprised as to how many “communist” countries are truly communist…
Hint:
They’re not. :]
“Way to go Communism!!!”
Sigh. If people knew what communism was really about, they’d be smart enough to figure out that THIS ISN’T COMMUNISM! Why the fuck would COMMUNISTS be for TORTURE? It makes no sense, and you’d know that if you were intelligent enough to know what true communism is. Don’t be fooled by “communist” countries today, folks.
thats insane
they are afraid of the internet because it exposes people to the freedoms found in other (non-communistish) places.
And nothing like that ever happens here?
this from the culture where children’s cartoons give people seizures? brilliant. bravo. not..that’s so retarded.
you know, dan, as much time as YOU apparently spend on the internet, maybe you should have your wife perform electrosock therepy on you? like…every time you post on xanga, she can hook up a car batter to your nipples as you sit with your feet in a tub of water.
“this from the culture where children’s cartoons give people seizures? brilliant. bravo. not..that’s so retarded.”
that’s japan, fool.
oh dear.
good luck with that regimen…
Wonder what they’d do to Dan.
Hah, priceless.
Isn’t it great that the state is so kind to take care of problems that the parents couldn’t? Just throw ‘em in jail when mom and dad can’t take it anymore? I wonder how exactly that would help him to control his internet addiction when he comes back home.
That seems stupid to me. Or mean. Or inhumane.
Perhaps you should consider this treatment, Dan…
If I lived in China, I’d probably be dead from all those shock treatments. I really don’t think an internet “addiction” is so bad as a drug addiction…
Crazy, crazy, crazy.
God bless the USA
Poor kids!
Hmmmm……interesting. I do think that a lot of kids who spend all their time on the internet need their brains stimulated in a different direction, but this may be extreme. Of course, we don’t have all the facts here…….
Poor flipper-footed boy!
…
Can’t they just take the computer out of all the houses?
That seems a bit more humane.
whatever happened to a good old spanking and locking down the computer or shutting down the internet in the home??? sheesh.
that is a bit extreme but then China is different. You have to admit they do not have a serious drug problem like most countries
They get the internet in China?! Wait to go 3rd world country!!
Not a bad idea for my brother-in-law who’s addicted to gaming since there’s no rehab for said individuals.
what the heck. Thats crazy
You would be the first in line for that Dan.
I feel bad for those kids.
thats terrible!!! its not like he’s on drugs or something harmful either
Its China they force abortions on people, lock others in jail for their religious beliefs and people expect them to like act civilized about anything the government sees as a threat to their control of its citizens. Ah…Not!!
i don’t see how communism is an addiction >> dumbfuck. (comment above)
and i find that hilarious :]
l ol
I was watching Intervention the other night on A & E and they had a family who did an intervention on a kid who was totally addicted. They shipped him off to some rehab way out in the country for treatment. Hopefully no shock treatment there.
wow
Depending on how it’s done, electroshock therapy isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, I’m not sure I agree with how it’s being used.
That being said, it’s a pretty decent success rate if the guy is telling the truth.
Also, it seems that it’s the parents’ choice if their child goes.
And they do a lot more than just shock therapy.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the way true discipline works. “TRAIN a child up in the way he should go…” It doesn’t say torture.
scary…………..!
Just take their computers away!! Shock treatment is ridiculous! Have any actual psychologists approved this??
Umm…wow. Shock treatments? Isn’t that going a little on the extreme side?
Have a great weekend, Dan!
……..
Shock therapy works on severe depression patients, they dont know why, it might work for internet addiction. The side affects such as long term memory loss are not worth it. I think they are doing it as a deterent not treatment or mayb just for the doctors entertainment…..
They’re just mad because their attempts to censor the internet haven’t been as complete as they would like.
poor poor kid!
<3ALways,
Nary
thats absolutly terrible.
yipes.
coporal punishment for being on the internet. can’t parents just take the computer away?
hmm, i agree that internet addiction is a problem, but that does seem pretty desperate!
Remind me to never go to China.
that’s kinda funny… if your inhumane.
…How can you NOT be addicted to the internet?
I need that.
They’re a cruel race.
Inhumane.
That is insane. But I’m not surprised…it’s China. They don’t care about human rights.
C’mon… China isn’t bad just coz of this treatment.
They’re a cruel race.

is it really? I’m Chinese, and I don’t approve of this.
Maybe the parents of the children “addicted” to the internet need to get a backbone and actually be a parent to the child and turn off the computer, unplug the internet from the computer every once in a while, and actually discipline the child if they get on the computer/internet without permission. After all such avenues of parenting are explored and the child is still finding ways to get onto the internet at all hours of the day and night and it is disrupting them from functioning normally in everyday life… then yes they are addicted and therapy is needed… but NOT shock therapy!
Thats weird & scary !!
They should treat sexula addiction too ! haa……
{ snicker}
China, I feel sad for just about anyone living there. Nothing but a bunch of sadists who run things.
They have no rights and behave so depraved.
Ho’fux. That’s ridiculous.
Do that to the Chinese in America!
Lol. Sorry.
