Dick Cheney
The Taliban tried to kill Dick Cheney.
The Vice President was visiting a U.S. military base in Afghanistan and a suicide bomber killed at least 14 people. The Taliban is taking responsibility for the attack and have said that Dick Cheney was the target.

A for effort.
alright, already!
For some reason, I find this funny.
lawl @ kyjo btw
Hmmm…guess that war in Afghanistan is not over like we thought…
How about that.
pfft… if they were trying to get a good repoire for the states… they wouldve done pretty well…
I probably shouldn’t post this… but… now Cheney know what it’s like to be on the wrong side of a weapon >_>
knows* grrr.
That is not something that we should laugh about. It is a direct slap in the face to our country to attack one of our leaders. Do the people above me not realize that people are dying in this war EVERY DAY!?
I gues the plot to make him eat a high fat diet wasn’t working fast enough
The Taliban better be careful. Cheney might decide to go hunting with them.
Oooooo… I sooo want to make a crack, but since all the hunting ones have already been said, I’ll be serious. So I don’t like him, but I hate the Taliban more with their supression of women and reading and basic human rights. Er… I just hope this doesn’t mean we’re “liberating” Iran next!
Note to self, stay away from Dick Cheney while in Afghanistan.
Yeah, if Cheney shoots his friends, the Taliban better watch out.
lol
I heard it was a mine that went off… … but then my sources in the taliban aren’t that reliable these days.. It used to be people on the net pretended to be lesbians, now they’re pretending to be taliban
Dick is a strange guy… I’m not sure if he bad… or just plain evil
I just heard that on the radio this morning and I was like “What??” but they said they would have had to penetrate through two more gates to get to him.
What really irks me is that the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES had a terrorist strike against him, and the ONLY news network that had a huge headline about it was Fox News. CNN and all the other “news” networks are still focusing on Anna Nicole or the supposed “bones of Jesus.” And people say the media has no agenda. Give me a break.
So what lesson have we learned today?
Never become vice president of the United States while somebody like George W. Bush is in term.
Oh!… And sharing is caring!
Get the feeling they don’t like him either?
just to respond to i heart coffee: before i fell asleep last night cnn.com was focusing on this story. at that point the taliban was not yet taking responsibility, but the story was already big news.
as for the taliban claim, i question it. a major at the base has said it did not appear that way. and, before i even read that, it reminded me of all the times in the past when terrorist groups of one persuasion or another laid claim for soemthing just because it fit into their agenda.
and, while i myself am not a fan of cheney, i wonder why the first response is automatically laughter.
The Taliban? I thought we got rid of them awhile ago. Oh well, its good that he’s safe. Maybe they got the idea from watching 24 last night.

hahaha. i concur!
But the point is, sealannie, this should be healine news!! It’s not. There is still more focus on Anna Nicole and James Cameron than on our VP! I don’t care if you don’t like Bush, or Cheney, or whatever. He’s still the VP of the US and he still deserves respect. Regardless of how anyone feels about the man… THIS SHOULD BE ALL OVER THE NEWS. It’s infuriating how low our country has sunk.
that sucks.. but thats why if your a leader you dont go to a war-ridden country. I guess he was trying to proove things are better. i guess they are not over there.
Funny, the Taliban and Al Queda first attacked America fourteen years ago YESTERDAY. No one even mentioned it.
When are we going to learn that if we want to survive, we are going to have to quite trying to pacify the baby muslim tantrum-throwers and start calling their evil “faith” for what it is?
what was the question?
What a surprise – Not!
just because they are taking responsibility doesn’t mean they did it.
i’m not going to argue either way, but to point it out, it is entirely possible they are just saying that to regain media attention.
Quite the mixture of responses. Apathy in this world is overwhelming. Lack of respect for leadership. Lack of caring and concern. Interest in world events diminishes when “Pop News” comes on. I would hope people are seriously looking at the culture and values of today because this is what is going to be taking care of you in another 20 to 30 years.
Nice try, Taliban. You’ll get him next time.
How have we as a country become so desensitized that we laugh when we here that the 2nd in command of our country was almost killed?
i wonder if the taliban admitted who the target was..to scare us all! a warning that they missed..but they won’t next time. who knows. i don’t kow.
Kill the vice president? What would that acomplish?
Good job Taliban. They’re gluttons for punishment.
Wow, y’all. I understand that politics has polarized the American nation, but assassination attempts aren’t funny, even if they’re against someone you hate.
Hatred of the current administration is no excuse to be flippant about something like this. I’m no fan of Cheney by any stretch, but holy crap I wouldn’t laugh if he died.
I question whether the Taliban actually tried to assassinate the VP. It seems more likely to me that they were just carrying out another attack, and when they found out that the VP was in town they decided to call it an assassination attempt in order to score points with their loyalists.
If it was a real assassination attempt, they planned it quite poorly. I’d be more worried about the intelligence leak. A visit by the VP to a warzone would be done in secret, right? So how did the Taliban know about it? I don’t think they really knew, which is another reason why I’m dubious about their claim.
I have every confidence in the ability of America’s fighting men. The terrorists don’t stand a chance against us in a real firefight. The only place where are troops are losing is in the media’s perception. If twenty raids are carried out successfully, the media doesn’t care. But let one roadside bomb go off and kill a few American troops, and the media’s all over it. Why? In a word … politics.
my boyfriend is serving at that base and was less than a mile from the explosion when it happened. i don’t find anything about this funny. people lost their lives… i’m just thankful my boyfriend was not one of them.
I heard it on the radio. I think one US Solidier was killed in the foiled attack.
What goes around comes around. Cheney shot Whittington, the Taliban wants to finish off Cheney.
wow, I didn’t realize that the Taliban were Democrats, ha ha
Whether you like Cheney or not, it’s awful to laugh at this. Grow up and have some respect.
i heard about that on the radio. no one is making a big deal of it. I heard them say, Dick Chainey was the targer of a suicide bombing…. and thats it. and I was like, god I had to have heard that wrong. oh well
Derek
One more comical chink in history. Like a timeline for the reign of the clowns.
Does anyone else think Cheney is looking pretty old lately??? Must be from having to try and clean up Bush’s messes…no, honestly…You didn’t make a mistake electing him. LOL
anyways……. Am I supposed to now support the war?
Was Cheney really the target? Or was it more coincidence, I mean things explode over there all the time.
Kathy Griffin was in Baghdad when a car bomb exploded close to where she was staying, was it the Talibans efforts against Kathy Griffin, or just better than average odds?
I don’t the nathanswife05 realises the concept of the Bush Administration.
Well, if this weas their attempt it is actually very encouraging. He could hear the blast, but more than a mile away. Not so close. I think they were simply opportunists….can’t believe they were really trying.
I can’t believe how ridiculously insensitive these people commenting are. He’s still the Vice President, whether you agree with him or not. If, say, during the Clinton administration Gore would have been a target, everyone would be like “OMG1!! lyke he could have diedd1!1′.
Grow up, people, and get over it. Where’s your love for country?
Even if I didn’t like Clinton or whatever, I still respect him enough NOT to wish him dead.
That sucks.
This is a world war……but only one side is really in the fight.
