I love the guy who growls about how nobody knows anything and then says of course the VP would be Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House–that is 3rd in line for the presidency. Bush would have to name someone, who would have to be ratified in Congress. Oy.
And as for who should be named, well, maybe Bush should cut out the middle man and name Satan directly. I wonder if he’d take it?

Look it works like this: if Bush were unable to perform the duties of his office, Cheney would become president. If Cheney too were called back into Hell by his master, then the Speaker of the House would be next in line. That is in the even of succession. When the VP slot is empty, that isn’t succession, and Bush would name someone–in fact that would be an important part of the democratic process–it would help maintain the results of the 2004 election. I repeat, if Bush is fine, there is no succession. In fact if something happened to Bush, and Cheney took over, he would then name a VP, it wouldn’t naturally be Nancy Pelosi.
Please people–how about your next post be about the fact that no one actually has any idea how American government works?

For those being so arrogant about it, I think only one person thought Nancy Pelosi would be automatically made VP. All the rest had it right. And he admitted he screwed up.

I like Sam Brownback. He is currently running for president and has served well as a US senator from Kansas for years. He is a better candidate in my opinion than Giuliani or McCain. Unfortunately that is exactly why he has no legitimate chance of winning the presidency in ’08.
A few people seem kind of confused, the line of succession comes into effect if both the president and the Vice President are dead. If it is just the VP only who is dead, or he resigns, then the president chooses a replacement.

Looks like there is at least one poster who thinks he knows history but does not. If the VP is killed in office or has to resign or is disabled in some way and cannot complete his term then the president appoints someone of his choice to fill that VP seat, it DOES NOT go to the Speaker of the House which is that airhead Nancy Pelosi. It only goes to the Speaker of the House IF both Bush and Cheney are killed or disabled and cannot serve. That poster obviously has not studied American history….Nixon was president, Spiro Agnew, Nixon’s VP, had to resign, Nixon appointed Gerald Ford as the VP, and then when Nixon had to resign Gerald Ford became president. Ford was not elected VP or President, he was appointed to VP by Nixon, and then took over the presidency when Nixon had to resign.
But with that all said, Cheney, thank God Almighty, is alive. I don’t want to think about your question. It is too horrible to comtemplate.

Condi all the way baby. However, we were very fortunate and we don’t have to worry about that. Thank God that Vice President Cheney is okay.
I think some families are just heavy. I don’t think they or their kids can help it. In the USA, there is a different problem. Some are heavy because of eating styles, and relaxing preferences. I don’t think the parents should be puhished. They do need a look in to be sure the kid cannot be helped.
Hopefully, the V.P. will get home OK. We don’t need another 911.
