Al Gore in 2008
I was reading an article today that suggested that Al Gore may have caught some goodwill from the attention he received at the Academy Awards.
The article suggested that Al Gore may be able to reconsider a run for president because of the positive press. Here is the link: Link
Al Gore has also received a ton of attention for his thoughts on global warming as of late. Whether you agree with global warming or not, you have to admit that Al Gore has an a huge impact in making it one of the issues of the day.
Do you think that Al Gore’s emphasis on global warming can take him to the White House in 2008?

I hope not but he’s still better than Hillary I suppose.
I’m not sure, but he was very fun to watch at the awards…
*HUGS*
No. It would help his campaign but not enough to get him there.
Oh boy….
Probably not. That’s just a shame.
i have always seen al gore as an asshole.
I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he tapped into the celebrity a little bit.
No, only a limited number of people have been that completely brain washed by that issue.
You know how some people play fantasy baseball/football?
My mom and I play fantasy politics. We put together our imaginary campaigns and we assign points, etc. We also make up lists of who will run and when they’ll pull out or how much they will lose by.
My mom called early that Al Gore would give in to his fame and run. I said he wouldn’t. I hate to lose. (HATE it.)
Doubt it…
No, I don’t think so.
I think that he probably could. It really would not be difficult given the stupidity level of the average American.
He very well could be a better president than Hillary or Obama. He still would make an extremely lousy president just not quite as lousy.
Gore has pretty much been a failure since he started seeking national office. He turned his back on the values that got him elected to the senate in the first place. Forget about the Florida vote being canceled, ask why he couldn’t carry his own home state.
He burned too many political bridges in the DNC in 2000.
It should take him to the Nut House.
Well for one global warming is not a threat but a simple climate pattern that’s existed throughout history. And secondly Al Gore looks like a fat ghost.
I hope not.
I’m really sick of that era in US politics. Yes, it was much worse then than it is now….
The only thing that i can see that could possibly trump the Clinton administration is another Clinton administration just with Madam Hillary as President.
And the only thing worse than that would be another Kennedy making it into the Presidency… I think.
I don’t think he’ll do it. He’s making a bigger difference and doing more where he is. He seems happier. But if he does run, I’ll vote him right in there!!
Global warming alone wouldn’t do it, but this might be a good start for a presidential campaign in terms of exposure and good will. If he does run, he might do well.
After all – he has won the popular vote before!
it is a HUGE issue right now (I’m basing a future career off the belief among other things that the environment is in distress), but not as important to the people as ending the war.
Negative…
no, definitely not
Its a big issue, but its his only issue. While I really like Al Gore, I don’t think this would take him to the White House. Plus, I still have distaste for Tipper over her music vendetta a few years ago.
No. Besides, I read he’s too scared of the mean Clinton campaign style to run.
he definitely seems less stiff and the lesser of two evils now doesn’t he?…
I doubt it – but he and Leo were quite entertaining on the award show. And since he is rubbing noses with celebrities, he might get some financial support there (if the stars want him to run).
(I hope he doesn’t plan to use that as his campaign picture. Yikes.) I bet he seriously is examining the possibilities of a run, but I don’t think he could win with global warming as his platform. If he could, we’d have a Green Party President a long time ago.
If Al Gore becomes President, I will freak out. What a disaster.
UNFORTUNATELY….I think it could…
While I wish in some ways that it would be enough, I don’t believe it is. I think most people worry more about their day-to-day than big picture things, and climate change is definitely big picture.
I don’t think so. I found him to be very annoying at the awards.
The “fat ghost” comment made me chuckle. I sure hope he doesn’t run.
no. plus he is a freaky looking man. look at his eyes… and his facial expression… freaky
I certainly hope not! What do you think of Bill O’Reilly and his ‘No Spin Zone’?
He might try to run, but I hope he doesn’t win if he runs. I am kind of interested in seeing how this upcoming election will turn out. I am almost hoping we keep a Republican President next time around. If everything is controled by Democrats, imagine how much money the government would loose! I doubt many bills would get vetoed.
I want him to run! 08 will be the first election where I can vote. I like Obama, he might win the candidacy but never on a national scale. At this point I don’t care which Democrat it is, I just cannot stand another 4 years of Rublican-ness!!
LeaderOfTheKnightsWhoSayNI: How were the Clinton years bad? Ok, so he got head, but other than that little debacle he was a great President! The treasury was overflowing, internationally we were the good guys, unemplyment was down, graduation was up; we were in the Kyoto!! I don’t care what anyone says, I like Hilary. Her or Gore I say.
I hope not.
probably, but i really don’t care.
I’m sure it could, but I don’t think he has any intentions of running so we will never know.
He may have funding problems due to his $30,000 a year electric bill at his mansion, and the money he spends on buying other people’s carbon credits.
What a jackass.
This would be like the Jared guy from the commercials hogging down a Big Mac while he tells you to eat at Subway.
I don’t think it will get him to the big house this time, but focusing on an issue as he has was a good move. Too many of the usual election contenders pop up out of nowhere after doing who-knows-what for the previous four years. At least Al has something to show for his time out of the spotlight.
I assume the environment really is a passion of his (even if he is a carbon guzzling hypocrite just like the rest of us), but to increase his election chances, he probably should have chosen an issue that more people of both parties could sign-on to.
No…But he can and should run on his own political merits on top of his environmental concerns.
Nope.
Of the people who’d potentially vote for him, some of them understand his global warming crusade is a waste of time (not because people won’t respond, but because people responding would make a negligible difference). If they voted for him, it wouldn’t be because of his hypocritical “sky is falling” routine.
Of those who do buy what he’s selling, many don’t put “environmental issues” at the top of their list.
For those who believe his lines and think the environment is more important than other stuff, they’d have to vote a lot more than once apiece to make a difference.
If you look at the picture of Mr. Gore you have posted here, at a glance, he looks like Leonoid Brezhnev.
I’m not sure what I think about Al Gore.. but that video of that guy painting on himself..well it was neat to watch for the first -two min.. but then I just got bored. Then i thought.. is all that paint good for his skin????
Christina
Hey, if Leonardo Dicaprio wants him to be president, so do I!
(sarcasm)
Hell no!! I can’t stand that guy….he gives me the creeps politically and otherwise….
So does his wife…Tipper….bleh.
Candy
i don’t get people. our country just got slammed with how many feet of snow and they’re still saying “protect us from global warming!”? pish. i don’t think people understand that there is not such thing as global warming!!
“Well for one global warming is not a threat but a simple climate pattern that’s existed throughout history.” –PSUnited1 i agree
and no. i don’t think he’ll take the white house.
He’s pretty ugly. Maybe if he lost some weight.
Why not? He won the first time didn’t he? Sort of.
eh… I dont care- at least not yet. with like 2 years to go still till voting time. but he does have the presidential white hair now!! ha ha
no
Not when his house consumes twice as much energy in a year as the average home does. He wants us to reduce, reuse and recycle and he consumes more diesel fuel running his bus around promoting the effects of our energy consumption on Global Warming.
I think it’s funny, he was on the Grammy’s also and his wife was the instigator of labels on cd’s! Odd company mix there lol
And to answer your question finally.. No it’s not enough to take him to the White House.
I sure hope not AlGore – boring.
NO. The people, including Al Gore himself are not interested in really doing anything to prevent energy consumption via irreplaceable fossil fuels. I just read an expose on Gore’s electricity bill that said he consumes twice the amount of an average household.
This USA doesn’t care about the Presidency unless he was to run on American Idol campaign; then he would get votes.
I am thinking Al will get celebrity support to run also. I have mixed feelings on who I would like to see as president. Personally I would like it to be someone who is committed in bringing our troops home from war as one of their many priorities.
no.
please give us a candidate that will give the dems a chance this year!!!
Technically, he did win the presidency in 2000.
gawd I hope not…..and I lean democrat!
I don’t think so. I think his time has passed for White House potential. I can see him as a senator or congressperson in the future, although I think he has a good gig with the whole professorial thing.
I don’t think so. I think Gore is pretty much finished when it comes to a Presidental seat. He had his try, and that was enough for him. I think he is sitting pretty good, still in the back of the American mind, and getting a lot of people to realize a problem most just brush off as silly, or a myth.
No. It’s one issue. And whether or not he’s right, he has failed to convince a whole lot of people.
it is a HUGE issue right now (I’m basing a future career off the belief among other things that the environment is in distress), but not as important to the people as ending the war.

I find RaVnR’s parenthetical comment slightly disturbing, and her sentiment colors my perception of scientists who claim the extreme dangers of global warming. It seems that for her career to flourish, global warming must be the direct result of human actions. If not, she won’t have a job. Aren’t many scientists in that position now? It seems to me that there is a pretty high incentive for them to conclude that global warming is a catastrophe wrought by human hands.
Jimmyjazz86, Gore did not win the presidency “technically.” Even if he won the majority vote, that’s not how the president is “technically” elected in the US. The electoral college decides, for better or worse.
No. That’s not enough to win the Presidency just as being anti-war isn’t enough to secure a spot in the Whit House.
He probably won’t but I wouldn’t mind if he cleaned up his act a bit. But better than Hillary OR Bush, anyway.
No..
But I’d like to see the White House with solar panels. =)
Highly doubtful.
Reagan was a popular man on the big screen.
yes.
because global warming is a very serious issue and needs to be addressed.
Also, he should be been president, not bush!
And since people don’t like bush, I think they are regretting that he didn’t win before. . .
Nothing like a one-issue candidate to run a country.
It’s like a mathematic savant in a triathlon.
No he already said that he’s not running and that he has bigger “calls” then just the white house. The guy wants to save the world
I hope not, who is that blubbery creature?!
And I really wouldn’t want Al Gore as Pres
Al Gore is finished politically. He would have been elected president in 2000 if not for his own arrogance.
you know, as much as i hate it when people mock him, he wont make it even if he runs. Obama, Clinton, Gore. Come on, get realistic. Global warming may be real, but Gore making it to office sure as hell isnt.
Derek
no. and that’s kind of a nasty picture of him. lol
Not a chance.
dear god I hope not!!!!
wow, he looks so much older in that picture than i remember him a few years ago
by the way, that video you have up is amazing
yes.
Hell no, he’s an idiot.
He’s getting chunky.
jeez! I hope not..
Why can’t there ever be a president that everyone likes??
oh yeah.. this is the world
….full of moronic humans
I think that his hypocracy when it comes to global warming would come back to bite him. He has 4 houses. I am sure that any one of those houses dwarfs my yearly energy use. He is the typical Hollywood persona who is very active preaching for his “cause” but when you look at what he actually does you see conflict. I am willing to be when he travels it is not in coach on a plane and that he probably rides in limos.
I don’t know. I am truthfully sad and apathetic about the election. I almost don’t give a shit who runs in ’08 but Obama, and only because I know he is more likely to have one of those coke can penises, I gotta have a president with a coke can for a penis.
And big ears.
NO, definitely not. No, no no no nooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Did you know he paid over $30,000 dollars for electric and gas for his 20 room, 8 bathroom mansion outside of Nashville (and he’s rarely home b/c he’s so busy toodling around in his private jet, which eats so much fuel…)
How can he get away with not living by example?????? Seriously, have you considered his “carbon footprint”?
I hope so. Then MAYBE he would wake up the public.
I agree with RaVnR. Very big issue. But many people are more concerned about getting troops home safely.
Plus, there are too many ignorant people in the country to even give him a chance.
Whether you like him or not, whether you’re conservative or liberal, this is an issue that needs to be looked at seriously.
No. He hasn’t a chance.
he is soo ghey. i cant stand him. global warming is happening but geez so is panda extinction. [pandas are endangered.] and i dont see any videos getting oscars for Save The Pandas.
No, and I’m SUPER DUPER CEREAL.
OMG… I HOPE NOT! geez…
take him further up in the primary…yes
get him the nomination…no
get the White House…no
NO!
More importantly, what the hell has he been eating lately?
They say watch and see if he starts losing weight That means he’s running. If he runs, I’m going to start voting again. It will truely mean this country has gone to hell.
I hope not.
I’m not an American, but I think he’s absolutley stunning. Why you people went and elected that other idiot beats me.
no
I’d much rather see someone who has some experience: Al Gore was Vice Pres, Hillary Clinton has been the first lady. Both of them have far better prospects than what any other candidate has.
’nuff said…
I’m not sure I see him running, he may work better as a cabinet member, or some type of advisory role. I’m kinda ready for a new batch in the White House.
and thats about the worst photo of him I’ve ever seen. I’m just saying…..
While I think he would make a good president, I sincerely hope he doesn’t run and instead devotes himself to the ecology issue. He is having a tremendous influence on the issue. He spoke at OU yesterday and they crowd was so large they had to move it into the field house which was packed.
i don’t want a president whose only concern is global warming. if he is elected president and his only concern is global warming then this country is in some deep gwauno
i don’t want a president whose only concern is global warming. if he is elected president and his only concern is global warming than this country is in some deep gwauno
I sure hope so.
Gore needs to get out of politics.
hope so, but unfortunately probably not
Haha, no.
yes I think so, I don’t think that alone could get him there, but it would most certainly definately help him get there.
