Xanga Banned From Mainland China
Xanga got banned from mainland China. Hong Kong can still look in. It isn’t just xanga. Many sites are blocked now. This makes me sad for mainland China.
Here is the link to test what sites are blocked: Link
I hope this isn’t because of my post about them beating the dogs with rabies.

oh dear. i dont know.
kidding, dan-o. ew. i never call you dan-o. either way. i don’t know. i don’t find it too suprising.

Electric Shock Therapy for Internet Addiction, remember that one?
Bah.

China is wack.
hahha, that sucks for them.
Somewhere in China, a Xanga obsessed kid just started crying.
Poor China!
sigh… im ashamed..
but yea.. lucky hong kong

ouch. wow.
It’s not like internet censorship is anything new over there…
China blocks Google.
Oh my. Too bad.
That’s really sad. I can’t imagine being so… censored.
On another note: Your posts range from early in the morning to quite late in the evening. Do you ever sleep? Or are you just “Super Dan” or something? (I’m guessing all of your addicted little subscribers believe that latter…)
Free expression ban. Hmm.
…I could probably live with that. Maybe. Maybe not. …Probably not
The Chinese people are very resourceful. I’m sure they’ll figure out a way around it.
haha…
~*RoXy*~
Poor mainland China.
I like your new background.
You know’s funny. In America, no one actually gives a shit about foreign bloggers, because we can’t fucking read their goddamn silly letters.
And I don’t mean silly letters like this;
“Dear China, my monkey is frozen. Unfreeze my money or suffer the wrath of Poodle Khan, viceroy of dirty dog trousers! Love, Other China.”
No. I mean silly like that crazyfuck shit you see from fucking MandyStars or whatever. And such.
aww poor china. me and my spoiled Chinese self in a xanga free country. blah!
<3Always,
Nary
Man. That sucks! NOW where are they going to vent out their daily frustrations and ponderings for the world to see??
Poor souls.
did i say that right? haha not being in classes for this past week has really messed my grammar up.
<3ALways,
Nary
Not to mention all the internet drama that will have to disappear from their worlds! How will they survive!?
Haha, sorry for being cynical. But really, it is pretty unfortunate.
There goes half my traffic.
Exactly how do they ban websites? From ISPs or something? Thats pretty sucky though, lol. I bet internet life in China is boring.
Wow.
I am surprised that it had not already been banned. It is a dictatorship where unless you are a family member or personal friend of the dictator you have zero rights, at least I think that is the case.
I give us here in the US about ten, maybe 15, years before we have Xanga blocked also. I know it sounds unrealistic and harsh but we are moving that direction at an increasing rate of speed which will likely accelerate more with democrats in charge and dem’s likely having the white house in a couple of years.
All hail Chairman Mao!
just kidding.
I’d guess they don’t want us free Americans giving them ideas of changing the government around.
Just a guess.
It won’t be long till China and US start to conflict!
No Dan!!!
All those beautiful girls from mainland China who will not be able to see my blog, because of YOU!
Now how will I find my wife on xanga and have a xanga wedding?
Darn. I have lots of friends in China, and Xanga was pretty much the only way I was able to keep up with them…
It’s always easier when you have someone to blame. So I guess I’ll blame Dan.
I am sad for China. I bet they wish they had less government control. I know I would.
Wow…. I have a friend who lives in Beijing that used to read my xanga… Guess he won’t anymore…
Is China becoming like North Korea?
nothing new for China, but it makes me glad I live in the United States.
Oh yeah, good job Dan. You’ve just destroyed freedom of information for 1.3 billion people. I hope you’re happy with yourself.
:-p
Things like that make me want to smack those ‘I hate living in America!’ American kids in the teeth.
This is bad news, Dan. When I was there xanga was my connection with the Western world. What will I do if I return?? What about MySpace…is it banned, too. I knew Blogger was and has been for a while. I’m sure xanga was banned because of your posts about China beating the dogs. It’s all your doing, Dan.
I can’t get that link to work. What does that mean?
when i was in china last summer, i could still access xanga just fine. i don’t know what caused this sudden banning.
That’s sad…especially cuz I know some people who might go to China…:(
Why waste their time on Xanga? The only person who has Xanga and not MySpace of Fracebook is me.
…look at what you did Dan
not that surprising. not everywhere in the world has the same premises of belief that the US does.
I think they are trying to return to more traditional roots, although it’s sad for the teens that live there. Xanga is a fantastic release.
So can we put Xanga in the company of the Bible?? I heard China Mainland outlawed that too….Even heard rumours of people smuggling bibles into China…..wonder if Xanga can be smuggled in…interesting.. ‘Til The Next
commie bastages.
bbc.co.uk is blocked in China, fascinating.
Cheers,
m
hahahah that suuuuucks.
They’re going to do anything to keep their people safe, no matter how irksome.
’nuff said…
i wanted to make a comment about your abortion cards… i thought christians were supposed to be compassionate, but i suppose expounding hatred and a lack of tolerance for people who go through an abortion is absolutelly appropriate, after all – they must be evil hedious human beings and you have every right to revel in their pain… boy, am i glad you’re a man and have no daughters, and if you do – i hope they never have to deal with that decision… i pitty them if they do!
Boo China
I feel horrible for them…I have several friends there that teach and/or in the missionary fields and they rely on xanga to keep in touch with what’s going on at home.
that really bites.
knowing them, it could have been
that’s china for you. *shrug*
Hahaha. You got Xanga blocked from China. Sensorship can’t be good!!!
I’m sure it’s not your fault, Dan. If it were, they would have hunted you down and beat you like a rabid dog.
Good morning, Dan! I wonder is the suit against YouTube will be successful. Kind of similar to what China is doing.
They probably had enough of Dan’s explicit language.
Psht. How lame.
Not too surprising from a nation that routinely murders infant girls as “population control” and forbids the teaching of any faith to children under the age of 18.
I feel bad for all of those people who want to reach out to the world and are blocked like this. I hope they can find ways around it somehow. I think the more we can communicate the better off we all will be.
BelinaRising is blocked as well. I suspect that they have simply banned all of Xanga. They have also blocked facebook, “google”, amnesty. org, wikipedia.
I’ve entered a number of sites related to civil rights and personal liberty.
They appear to be blocking anything that has to do with freedom of expression. It is difficult to keep people supressed once they experience Freedom of Thought.
I personally think cable TV had a lot to do with the downfall of the Berlin wall and the Soviet Union. Secret antennas began to bring in information about the outside world that was, until that point, not that well known.
Ignorant people are easy to manipulate and suppress. Now, with the internet, any totalitarian regime is threatened because it makes it very difficult to control people’s access to knowledge which determines their thoughts and beliefs.
This is certainly a step backwards for China, but the more they look different, the more they really are the same.
I agree with MMbyB. The abortion cards were very unchristian in their content. I can’t imagine Mother Theresa or Jesus sending one of these.
More and more we are seeing Christians and churches dwelling in anger, sarcasm, and hateful attitudes towards those who do not agree with them. If God is love, his people appear to have forgotten it.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” I John 4:8
“By their fruits ye shall know them.”
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails….And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
Oh well. Turkey had a ban on Youtube for a while, but it got lifted.
people in mainland China also can’t read the Hong Kong ‘s websites .
I think mainland China doesn’t want their citizens are influenced by foreign culture
HAHA. Okay, wow. That’s sort of funny.
Sounds like my work.. xanga and fark are like the only sites NOT blocked. Lamers.
Even your link on this article is blocked. /cry
At least the porn is blocked too…
Yeah, it probably was your post. You just took down an entire country! First!!
they blocked amnesty. That’s just wrong.
Now, if communism could just spread to America. I guess we’ll just have to settle for socialist policies working their way in.
That’s really sad.
Wow.
That really sucks.
lol about the rabies, but that tooo sad.
it’s really sad that these countries keep blocking websites.
dang that sucks… its just blogging, theres no harm in that, only that it can get kind of addicting… -_-
china kinda scares me…blocked sites over an entire country. and china is big, too.
Eh…aol is blocked too.
lol or maybe the one with chinese parents giving their kicks shock therapy for their internet addiction
it probably is.
i want to live in china.
Well, how rude. It’s almost funny that my homepage is blocked too. And I have nothing political or subversive on my site at all. Just my writing. Ah, well.
that sucks for xanga.. since they were getting sooo many new members from china..
=)
j
Don’t they block… just about everything? Communist countries…
Not good.
I herd that thing where the chinese think their kids are addicted to the internet… they are trying to stop that I guess…
You are very influential, Dan.
Haha. Damn communism.
Are you really surprised.
They blocked yahoo.
OF COURSE it’s your fault. Way to ban xanga from all of mainland China, Dan!
That’s so sad!! Omg, I can’t believe that google made it on the list – and nasa. what the heck? **weird**
I couldn’t live without xanga. what was the reason? it cant be censorship, its xanga!
*gasp* Xanga????? Wikipedia?? Google?? Yahoo???? Myspace??? YOUTUBE????
A moment of silence for all the mainland chinese people without the only good websites on the internet.
PS: … Disney? wtf? lol
Ironic that amnesty.org is blocked?
I’m shocked, shocked to find China restricting information exchange.
The reason they banned it might not be only about politics, point of view etc.
Recently, they are working on internet addiction b/c it is bad for their citizens.
You should be ashamed of yourself, Dan! Ruining the opportunity to read amazing blogs and write for over a billion people in the world! ;-;]
xDD
Poor Chinese, though.
Aww the poor chinese. I am chinese…but I live in America! Lucky me~ I guess…
I’m in Hong Kong… I didn’t know about China though….
Sad.
