I don’t know, it doesn’t make much sense, she’s just saying basic filler stuff that every candidate says on this video.
# 3?
it depends, which line? :
Darn it..
Well, I dont really have time to watch the vid, so I dunno.
=P
…and so now that i actually watched it, yeah, it does a little bit. I wouldn’t compare hillary to big brother.
so, hillary is from orwell’s “1984″??
No, it doesn’t step over the line. She’s a socialist.
no, it was bradbury
yeah, that’s just disrespectful…
Meh.
I have no problem with it
on_bleeker_street is the only one to “get it” so far! absolutely right! If we want socialism in America, vote for Hillary!
I applaud the amount of effort it took to make this futuristic commercial. Kind of like a Fahrenheit 451
pfft no.
i’ve seen much worse.
that was just a very educated way of expressing the truth.
Apple.
shoot, it is orwell
Hmm. I don’t think so; he’s not completely bashing her, more her specific plans and policies. At least he’s not attacking her character or mudslinging, which is what most elections are nowadays.
That is awesome. It’s a very good dramatization of the allegory of the Cave from The Republic by Plato. Hillary is known for projecting an image that is not real. Obama is saying that image needs to be seen for what it is.
Her husband nearly killed the Democratic Party in ’94. The GOP took over both houses of Congress because of his actions. Obama is a breath of fresh air for the Democrats. They haven’t had a candidate that didn’t tow the party line since Jimmy Carter in ’76.
The storm troopers in the film seem awfull reminiscent of Janet Reno’s use of the US Marshalls. Do we want to return to that?
Hahaha all is game in the advertising world… -David
All candidates should respect one another’s view point rather than bash it.
I’m on neither side. I’m sort of leaning towards Hilary, but maybe Barack won’t be so bad, if only he’d gain huge heaps of humility and stop acting like it’s highschool, it is a PRIMARY for the PRESIDENTIAL election!
I honestly don’t even know what the hell that meant.
I’m undecided if it steps over the line or not. Either way, I think it’s interesting. I didn’t see the original commercial it’s based off of though, so I feel like I’m missing something.
jesus fucking christ
If its bashing hilary then no, if its bashing Obama then i don’t care. I don’t have t watch the vid
It finaly laoded, i don’t think it steps over the line at all. I’m not a fan of Obama but i like him mushc more than hilary. In my opinion we need to do away with Librals in genral.
If he was responsible it might be a bad move – he’ll probably have to work with her at some point. But he’s safe enough since they supposedly don’t know who made it.
No, it doesn’t step over the line. She’s a socialist. Posted 3/18/2007 8:52 PM by on_bleecker_street It would be a better country if there were Democratic-Socialist and Green candidates with some influence.

Posted 3/18/2007 9:19 PM by Jesus_Freak_58 In my opinion you should buy a copy of the Bible that doesn’t contain so many spelling errors, so you can learn to spell correctly even if you never experience more than that one book. Good luck doing away with the “Librals.” [Unless that was onomatopoeia, and you were just trying to convey that WV twang].
You know, that’s pretty classic, right there. Typical politics, I think. Compare Hillary to Big Brother. But don’t bother to say anything about her position or platform or anything. Just make her out to be a wanna-be dictator and her supporters as mindless, brainwashed drones.
I don’t like Hillary. I think I’d rather lose my left nut than vote for her. But I also don’t like being propagandized against a candidate. I’d much rather vote against someone because I have good, sound facts about him or her, not because someone called them a facist. This video says more about those who made it than Hillary, to those who are willing to take a closer look at it.
I think it is just that.. another ad. All political ad’s step over the line at one point or another. I think these two are going to make the American public so sick of them that the quieter candidate will sneak past them.
Obama > Hillary without even needing to watch the video! Woah!
Was that really sponsored by Barrack Obama???
Was that really sponsored by Barrack Obama??? Posted 3/18/2007 9:45 PM by heh_heh_ur_weird No, or at the least not officially. Read the link.
i’m just wondering why they had a girl from hooters to be the one to run in and throw the hammer?
What is the phenomenon here? The growing legitimacy of internet medium in a presidential campaign? If this video influenced the election, then it would show the growing power of media in the United States. For a time, maybe the power of an often forwarded video in cubicles across America could influence…
The demoncratic primary.
And the 2008 Presidential election.
Youtube videos…
Only for a time though, and this is the problem with questioners, thought it is not really a problem. Culture evolves, always. If internet mdium can sway an election even by 1%, then it is a force to be reckoned with and acknowledged. Maybe to someday be regulated. What is internet videos influenced teens to do drugs? In the futre, what line gets crossed. What IS the line? Should we try to control the evolution of our culture?
I just hope we don’t destroy the planet before we can evolve some more…
Barack didn’t make this video.
no
Well freedom of speech is sacred. No less has been said of Bush, and that crap is spoken frequently. I myself would never make such rediculous assertions, but I would never speak against other people’s right to.
btw. I find it really funny that it was a democrat who did this. Dems are always the nastiest to people
First off love the video up top…about time someone stood up for women’s right to choose on abortion. Thank you for bringing it to the front. I knew there was a reason NY loved Rudy.
Second…Yeah the video was not nice. To me it was a waste of time. It didn’t talk about what Obama was bringing or if he too was doing the same behavior. Just making fun of a woman who, while I don’t always agree with her decisions, has always stood up and at least took a stand. Obama to me seems to be for whatever group he is speaking in front of.
Haha.. made me laugh, even though I don’t know what 1984 has to do with it.
I think it does cross lines. I respect a candidate who doesn’t attack the other candidates, but instead attacks the issues. I just lost a bit of respect for Obama’s campaign.
“Barack didn’t make this video.” – Tallon5
Oh, well that’s good. I feel a bit better about Obama now. Still, it’s not a good campaign tactic to attack an opponent, especially an opponent who’s on your side.
Most of the video is sampled from an old 1980′s Apple Computer Superbowl commercial. I’m not sure that it matters which candidate you vote for; 1984 is up and running already in its “beta” form. I won’t elaborate.
Even if it’s a farce the video fairly portrays the relationship between politicians and the mind-numbed populace of this country. Regardless of the political affiliation of candidates, more and more Americans are blissfully relinquishing their blood-bought liberties to control of a “big brother” government.
That reminds me so much of that one episode of futurama!! With “Mom”! And the 80′s buisness man’s new commercial ad!
..I watch too much [as]..
Haha that is great!
the line of what? “decent clean politics”? it’s politics, they’re nasty rabid head hunters looking to promote themselves without caring who it hurts along the way. i’m pretty sure that had hillarys people come up with this first they’d have used it too. they just want to win. and it’s a very catchy commercial…for anyone who’s actualyl read 1984 and knows who Big Brother is. It reminded me a little more of Brave New World than 1984 though.
I thought it was funny….
Maybe. but the candidate is pretty weird if you don’t know the background storyline.
I find it interesting that someone took the time to add an iPod to the hammer thrower’s waist.
I don’t get the video so eh.
Personally, I have more respect for candidates that spend their time advertising about themselves, as opposed to advertising against the opponents.
Of course, Obama denies participating in this particular ad. Which, well, I hope that’s true because it does depict her in a relatively negative light. Seeing as they are both democrats seeking the same nomination, neither of them (or the other candidates, even though it cannot be denied that these two are forerunners) ought to be concerned with negative advertising of each other. It would only reflect poorly on their party, to have people within the party disagreeing and acting in such ways.
If the dems want to get elected in 2008, they need to show that the party is strong. Bashing each other will only detract from such an image.
nope
Interesting article. I actually like the idea that this sort of unauthorized creation of ads puts the power in the hands of the ‘lay people.’ Like they said, it’s bottom-up advertising. It’s sure to be more interesting, but it may make us wince more often. . .because there isn’t the same degree of accountability. No one has owned up to this one yet.
No, but they should have taken better Clinton clips for it.
hillary is a sucky person. and it totally doesnt cross the line.
I liked it.
I find it interesting that most of the reactions I’ve seen to both this video and the original are versions of an uninformed and disinterested “I don’t get it.” To those who aren’t familiar with this fact, the commercial that you clicked on (assuming you were gracious enough to do so) is *exactly* the same as the original Apple commercial that appeared in 1984. The only difference, of course, is the appearance of a certain Hillary Clinton instead of a nameless dictator. Apple was implying that by choosing their product, one is choosing free will and escape from an unjust tyranny of thought and action. Of course, by choosing this framework, the creators of this ad are implying the same thing too. Since Hillary is an advocate of some Socialistic principles, this video isn’t overstepping the line — it’s actually dead on, and hands-down my favorite political jab in quite some time.
For those who would like to see the original ad, go to youtube.com and search for apple 1984. It should be the first result.
P.S. For the record, I’m not trying to say that I think this will help Obama out. I just happen to be a fan of sarcasm and irony, and this is a great example.
No way. It’s brilliant.
mmmm interesting, technologically advanced and powerful message. but the campaign group says they had nothing to do with it so it doesn’t really seem to go over the line in that sense. however whomever put it up could ultimately help or hinder obama’s campaign. thats a hard one to call for some reason…
I thought it was fantastic!
no. it is a smart challenge…
cool…don’t know that it’s that effective, but very cool…nice of apple to make it first…is it officially obama’s????? does anyone realize the girl in with the hammer is wearing an ipod….twenty-three years ago…..i guess it does it’s job at branding obama and positioning hillary as “evil empire…establishment….” maybe obma should’ve thrown the hammer….maybe it’s a bit agressive for two candidates from the same party heading into a primary….
actually, if you read the text from the commercial, it’s much more interesting…too bad the words get lost in the visuals:
“Today, we celebrate the first glorious anniversary of the Information Purification Directives. We have created, for the first time in all history, a garden of pure ideology. Where each worker may bloom secure from the pests of contradictory and confusing truths. Our Unification of Thoughts is more powerful a weapon than any fleet or army on earth. We are one people, with one will, one resolve, one cause. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death and we will bury them with their own confusion. We shall prevail!
and whoever realized they pasted the ipod is correct, my bad on the previousl post…quite the mash-up.
Wow
she makes me ill !
No, I don’t think it does. I think it’s a bit unimaginative and I wonder what Apple Inc has to say about having one of their commercials hijacked. But it’s not over the line.
The video is really quite funny.
Does a great job of pointing out how socalisitic / communistic Hillary is.
Of course, So is Obama….
People just aren’t smart enough to see it yet.
in my opinion that video is awesome.
go apple computers and obama– both are classy and high quality.
It was better than any other one I have EVER seen!!
O.K………..
I know that Hillary is a Communist and Suspect that Obama is also. Therefore, I see a pot calling a kettle black. I do not think that this has crossed the line as it has been established in recent years. It is over the line that should be heeded however, very little is not over that line in politics today.
to tell you the truth I dont’ really understand it.. but thats because… well 1984.. I don’t know anything about that.. but my guess is it has to do with the book? maybe?
No, it doesn’t step over the line. Very nicely done.
wow, whens the movie coming out?? lol
wow…ok.
well, i’m relieved that it was at least…”unauthorized”. cuz that was kinda scary.
My Dear InXanga,
A decade ago I conveyed explicitly that you might not be a pastime of mine.
However, in the 3rd year of abjuration announcement having been made, I have started to embrace you in my bosom.
There is a dichotomy between my being eloquent and being reticent. Whenever I have the former the latter conquers it, and vice versa.
Whenever I have the former I simply improvise.
Occasionally I have the latter on the grounds of feeling impoverished.
I hate to love and love to hate to reveal those spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings to those throngs of retarded learners in most schools in our pestiferous education system which lacerates multitudes of educators such as myself.
They are given publicly masturbating learners.
They are offered diabolically lascivious learners.
They are provided with bloodthirstily pugnacious learners.
They are granted ecstatically adrift learners.
It is a slur to the word “learners” although educators cajole these wretches persistently.
My dear dear xanga,
My fatigue is claiming my psyche
My intrigue craves its autonomy
Isn’t that the norm?
nah. It is strange in that it is less pro-obama, and more anti-hilary.
haha, I love it.

No. That video is just telling it like it is.
it’s just RIDICULOUS. seriously. that is supposed to work? that makes me laugh. really hard. it’s preposterously cliche.
its very unoriginal, considering all they did was take the video from the apple commercial and put her in it and change the date to 2008 at the end.
thats just annoying.
what? that doesnt make much sence
I’m not voting for either of them ^_^. Its a creative commercial though
It’s very creative and the article said it’s not made by the Obama Camp so I have no problem with it.
Hilary mentioned once about big oil companies and big profits something like… “I’d like to take those profits and share them with the American people…” Take profits huh? Sound like Big Brother Communism to me…
