Dukes of Hazzard
The “Dukes of Hazzard” has been canceled in Cincinnati because of the confederate flag being displayed so prominently in their program.
The stars of the series, John Schneider and Tom Wopat, have taken up musical careers. They were going to sing at the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. The show was canceled because there were those who that the show was racist and offensive. Here is the link: Link
Is the Dukes of Hazzard racist and offensive?

No, it was racey and sexist.
What isn’t offensive anymore?
Oh brother…
Probably but thats what tv programs were like back in the 70′s before the world went politically correct. The new James Bond is awful because they made it politically correct
I’ve never seen it…it seemed pretty dumb.
Yes
It’s like cigarettes… nobody really knew how bad it was when it was at its most popular… in today’s context we are less likely to accept it.
Dan, I was highly offended by this post.
That is a little overboard. I grew up with that show. It was cracker-lite pop culture references, all the good white trash without the meth labs and incest…
I don’t think so.

Cancelled? Hasn’t that show been off the air for something like 20 years?
What do you expect from those silly yankees in Ohio??? DoH might be offensive certain groups, like the poor redneck demographic, because the show made fun of them… but with any poor redneck, just show ‘em a hot chick in shorts and they’ll forgive ya, which is why Daisy Duke was on the show…
I have no idea.. never watched the old show or the new movie
what the… the show didn’t harm anyone, and without those “racist” parts it wouldn’t have been the Dukes of Hazzard!!! the show WAS racist back in the day… and they blatantly show how the Duke boys don’t realize they’re racist. don’t they even get embarrassed at one point in the movie?
Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist but a person drives a race car not called a racist?
oh this is about the show and not the movie???
If Dukes of Hazzard was racist then the whole South is racist. People in Cinci are awfully sensitive…and mostly black. Hmm…
It might be considered so to some…Honestly, though, so are many other NEWER shows… That show is older then dirt… and its still funny!
Yes, they were biased against high quality scripts and offensive to people who liked good TV.
No
It seemed pretty stupid to me, so I never saw it. But I do agree with Umnenga.
No, but it is stupid.
No, its not racist, but every girl is wearing short shirts and a bra.
Very asinine show!
Candy
from what i remember as a child it wasn’t…. the only thing going on was guy and their cars trying to get away from the law. lots of car races.
It’s only offensive if you think the Confederate Battle Flag was about slavery. It wasn’t. Worse though, is that the KKK has sort of adopted that flag. Of course, the KKK also insists on having the US Flag there too, so maybe that’s racist as well.
This is purely one culture demanding another culture die.
TheGreenPanther “What isn’t offensive anymore?”
That says it all
I haven’t seen the show, but from the clips I have seen, it doesn’t seem to be.
However, the Confederate flag is.
I don’t watch the Dukes of Hazard, but people need to lighten up. Being a southerner, I know that most people proudly display it as heritage, not hate. It’s so ridiculous when people think it’s for something other than heritage.
NO!!!!! Dukes of Hazzard was the best show on television -ever-!!!! (Says the girl who is disturbly in love with John Schneider, and has an admiration for Top Wopat, even though they are both much older then herself…). And that car was hot.
It’s offensive to anyone with more than half a brain.
Offensive in the same way that MTV is.
I never ever felt that way about the Dukes of Hazzard.
ooh, i think something will always offend someone, somewhere…I just can’t believe people make such a big deal about it…
how are you today?
*HUGS*
Well sure, if you decide it is then it is. I have never thought it to be offensive. The Dukes of Hazzard is an entertaining show that is very simple in concept yet despite knowing almost exactly what will happen in any given episode it remains entertaining. I think people have become way to sensitive to the confederate flag. Anymore, I believe that the flag is a connotation of pride in being from the south not a racist symbol.
Why don’t they just make their quest easier and shorter in duration by somply proclaiming all entertainment racist and offensive and try to ban it all.
Dukes of Hazzards was not offensive or racist WTH is wrong with this darn country. Cincinatti needs to get it’s head out of it’s ARSE! And besides that… Ohioan’s (is that a word lol) don’t consider Cincinatti part of their state heehee
everything and everyone is racist and offensive.
“Cancelled”
Two “l’s”
You’re a role model. Show some responsible spelling.
People need to buck up if they think its racist.
Honestly, pish.
Never seen Dukes of Hazard.
“Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist but a person drives a race car not called a racist?

LOL
You made a spelling error.
I don’t really know. But the confederate flag stands for alot of things, not just slavery.
No more then the South is racist and offensive.
I remember the Dukes of Hazzard being a lot of things.. but I don’t remember racism.
I don’t know if the Dukes of Hazzard was offensive (other than being very bad television), but the Confederate Flag and everything it represents is certainly offensive. While I think the backlash in Cincinnati is probably over the top and too much “political correctness,” I find the recent trends in the South regarding “neo-Confederates,” folks who seem to think that the concept of the Confederacy, the waging of the Civil War, and the social constructs of the antebellum south were all noble causes, a cherished part of our history, and somehow good, moral and even desirable is even more offensive. I am for any effort that puts these less than noble, even wrong and evil aspects of our country’s history into proper perspective. Sure, there were a lot of honorable men who fought for the Confederate side in the Civil War. There were probably good and honorable men who fought for Nazi Germany as well. Neither cause is soemthing that needs to be memorialized.
Oh, please. Whoever is offended by the original show is looking for offense.
It’s about as racist as Sanford and Son
…………it’s NOT!!!
People get offended WAY TOO easily
Just stupid. People in Cincinatti need to get a life.
soxfan59……You MUST be a Yankee!!!!!
Dan.. This could get real ugly, REALLY quick.
It is my history/confederate flag they want to destroy. Not the show. I had a great grandfather who fought under that confederate flag.
It seems to me that the more logical thing to do would be to air the show, and if nobody watched it (maybe because they felt it was racist, or maybe because they didn’t like it) then it would be yanked.
As did I Gail…but this is an argument that will NEVER end between Yanks and Southerns. The flag means something different to each.
I, like most Yanks, used to think that the flag only stood for slavery..that was me being ignorant. There were actually several different versions of the flag..the one most recognize is the Rebel Flag.
Research people, research.
It’s a little annoying.. but I still like the show.
An that’s a horrible picture of John Schinder. He’s so better looking than that… Hey. Your next post should be “Who was your favorite? Bo or Luke?” And no picking Daisy.
~*RoXy*~
I don’t recall it being that way. People are offended by everything nowadays.
lmao how dumb…I loved that show!
Don’t pay any attention to the grammar police, Dan. Canceled can be spelled with one L or two.
It’s a pretty lame show.
nowadays it seems that EVERYTHING is racist and offensive
It’s only offensive to my intelligence. If not for Daisy Duke I’m not sure the series would have lasted.
Everything is racist, my white car is racist. I’m the only white person for miles where I live, I get lots of racist jokes thrown at ME and I still think they’re funny. People just need to loosen up about their freakin’ skin color, I’m so sick of it…
How many people are actually offended by racist shows?
Danged Yankees.
Oh hell no. Considering that the Stars and Bars flew overhead when slavery was at its peak, I would think someone should be boycotting that one.
in parts, yes. mostly it’s just dumb.
this was a tv show that was revered by kids for it being fun. The protest is ridiculous…
No
Um wasn’t the show depicted in a period of time when the south was racist? It seems stupid and petty that Cinci would give a damn that much about a fictional show that they would cancel it over a confederate flag.
I THINK THE FLAG IS VERY OFFENSVE. AND DISPLAYING IT SHOWS RACISIM MANIFESTS ITS SELF N THE SAME WAY AS 550 YEARS AGO . TO PEOPLE OF COLOR IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES OF TERROR AND DISTRUCTION. THEY SHOULD REMOVE THE FLAG. WE ( PEPOPLE OF COLOR) HAVE COME A LONG WAY. YET THERE IS STILL MUCH WORK TO BE DONE.
No..
It’s really dumb though.
Yes, but so are many other things.
There are plenty of racist shows/movies out there that haven’t been cancelled. I’m not racist or anything, but I’m blonde and when someone makes a blonde joke I know they are just being silly. Same thing. It’s not really racist unless you really and truly mean it. But that’s just my opinion.
It’s not racist and offensive: it’s bizarre and confusing
soxfan59……You MUST be a Yankee!!!!!

lets stop with these stereotypes
Why is it that we keep changing things for a few people who have nothing better to do with thier lives than bitch and complain?. It’s completely ridiculous, when is it going to stop?

I second that.
actually it wasn’t a stereotype…it was true.
Yes. Just as “Huckelberry Finn” is, the “n” word is used about sixty thousand times.
No, it was just SOUTHERN and what Soultender said.
I am NOT a Yankee — I pull for the White Sox!!!
No.
Note how so many of the people going “whut? it’s not racist! people are too sensitive!” are white.
Confederate flag = heritage
Confederate flag also = hate.
So, yes and no.
I don’t know, but if it is, people’ve just got to learn to deal with it.

So I’m guessing you’re one of those who believes that the civil war was about slavery or some such nonsense? Read up on your southern history before making a comment like that. It was about states rights.
That’s an example of taking politically correctness too far.
However, it is sectionalism, and I think the US is trying to avoid that.

Are you serious? Learn math maybe, then try posting. As far as I know, the US wasn’t even around in the 1400s, much less the civil war or the slave trade.

I am quite well read in AMERICAN history, thank you very much. If the American civil war was fought over “states rights,” tell me, what specific rights of a state were the Confederate States fighting for? And before you answer, read each state’s secession resolutions(you can find many of them here:
http://www.civilwar.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=18&id=33&Itemid=58
The Confederate Constitution made it illegal to outlaw slavery. (Art.I, sec. 9(4)).
This whole situation is d-u-m-b…
I think you have to take the show for what it was and not add more into it.
I think the Confederate flag is offensive, BUT. This is a TV show. It’s supposed to entertain and be funny, and that’s who the guys are. They have it on their car, big deal. It’s a big difference than people in real life waving the flag around. I even remember seeing the movie, and in the movie people got upset at the car design. In the show, they don’t mean it to mean anything, and it’s part of the show. Are they going to ban all shows that have a character who smokes pot now, too, because pot is bad?
SIGH….check please…
…yea, I guess so. It portrayed white people from the south as all po’dunk & stupid.
btw, I am offended by this article. You should have it removed. It oppresses me as a white male from the south. I am also offended by the name of your xanga. It has little to do with theology. It hurts my feelings. I think you should close it down.
…(washed in sarcasm…)
but then again I am white and think the argument in C-town is dumb, so I must be racist and offensive . That offends me, I need to be exported out of the country.
I have no intention of ever watching the show or the movie, based on wanting to retain braincells.
I do, however, get slightly pissed whenever I see a Confederate flag waving somewhere or attached to someone’s bumper.
