  • Punishment

Do you ever get the feeling that God is punishing you for all the bad things you have done?

  • first…again

  • no way !! he is extremely tolerant and continues to bless me !!

  • Yeah, sometimes. Moreso when I see other people, though: You know them, right? The ones who do everything the right way, and still get screwed in the end. Those make me wonder occasionally.

  • no. I used to, but I don’t feel that way at all anymore.

  • yes, sometimes, i do

  • I’m with Jenius. I don’t think God really goes after individual incidents that much… though maybe if you do bad things, bad things happen. Is that the way God works or the way the world works? Where’s the line?

I could go deeper, but no thanks. It’s late-ish for me.

  • A work of experiencing the condemation of breakign God’s law precedes a knowledge of Christ’s grace…I went through 2 years of it and then came to know Christ’s forgiveness. I ::really:: appreciated His grace and forgiveness once I saw what my sins deserved [the death of sinless Son of God]. My life was changed from it all. But wow…those 2 years were very hard.

  • No, All the bad things you do comes from satan not God. As long as you show you believe in him and love him, he’ll always be there for you. But honestly, Its just satan.

I sounds so religious. Sorry if i creep you out, but im Christian, and Im firm on my beliefs. Stay strong beautiful

  • Sometimes.

  • condemnation of breaking  {sorry}

  • Nope…if that was the case….Id be really bad off right now. :0

  • I try to count my blessings. And I believe your above statement is heavily oversimplifying matters.

  • or that he just doesnt like me

  • sometimes

  • I’m going to have to disagree with the previous comment. The book of Job tells us that God was the cause of the calamity that came upon Job. If a person says that God is only the cause of the good things that happen to us than that would make him in control of a very small amount of things. That doesn’t sound like an omniscient God to me. There is a difference between the decree of God and the will of God. What does not kill me makes me stronger.

  • That’s just silly. I’m not a masochist.

  • Nope.  He’s saving me from them.

  • No…Sometimes I feel like one of these days the bomb will drop,I do not deserve the good life that I have….I made some really bad choices in my youth,I thank God for grace.

  • how many of your comments do u actually read?

  • God was not the cause of the calamity on Job.  He ALLOWED the events, but He used Job to prove Himself and Job.  He never left Job though and lifted Job even higher.

  • it feels like that sometimes, yes

  • RYC- he is still worth it to me. he’s just stubborn sometimes.

  • Oh yes.  And I deserve it too.  But yes.  For sure. No question.  Without a doubt.

  • Goodness, no. I would be royally screwed if that happened. I marvel at God’s patience and tolerance with me.

  • God loves me. That’s why I have money. :) Poor people are bad people. ):

  • God doesn’t punish. Some things can feel like Karma is biting you in the butt, but it seems like that’s just the way the world works. But I believe that things happen as a consequence of something else. A lot of the time something happens b/c you’ve brought yourself to that point. And the only thing you can do at that point is dig yourself out. Wow, does that make sense? lol

  • Sometimes, God does have to punish us.  He lets us get exactly what we deserve.  Other times, he withholds his his hand so that we can see his grace and mercy.  What father wouldn’t?  If your child is running out into the street, a good father would stop the child, teach him/her about being safe, and the consequences for running out into the street.  At some point you are going to be an adult and be responsible for walking out into the street on your own.  You can do it God’s way (safe), or a reckless way and take the consequences.  I can’t say that I have always taken the straight path, but I can tell you it is much easier on my heart, body, mind, and spirit when I do.

  • no, because there is no god, tehe! i do some pretty shitty things sometimes and i’m happy.

  • God does not punish anymore, He punished Jesus Christ instead.  But He will punish at death if one does not truly accept Him as Who He says He Is…………..so I’m guessing you are questioning who you are?  That is a good thing.

  • God doesn’t cause trouble.

  • not really a punishment, but certainly acting in anger. or torture like a kid holding the magnifying glass on an ant during a sunny afternoon….

  • When I get really bad stomache cramps I try to pretend that for a few minutes to distract myself sometimes. Not even kidding. Haha.

  • God doesn’t cause trouble.

God doesn’t cause trouble just like guns don’t kill people.

  • yes, all the time

  • i think one would have to be less than human to say that they never feel that way. i know i sometimes do, but i know that most times He is not. although there are times when He does (annanias an saphira come to mind from the book of acts) but those are obviously extreme situations.

  • Not at all. If I am eating shit right now, it is a direct consequence of my own actions. No god had anything to do with it. I did.

Fate is fickle indeed however, and dice are random, and it is not fair.

Oh I was cursing god hard in that ice storm, walking a mile to the train in the rain and ice…

    To get to a rave.

And by the end of the night, me and god? We knew each other wall and it was a-ok!

  • No… But sometimes I feel like he’s punishing me for eating all that chocolate…

  • even when things have been at their very very worst
    I’d have to say
    No
ALL the punishment I deserve for all the stuff I’ve done
    ALL of that punishment
ALL of it was taken by Jesus for me
Jesus took my punishment that I deserve
Is there still brokenness that impacts my life?
    O, Yes
but that is different than the punishment I deserve
and it is also different than just trying to look on the sunny side of things
    it’s not a mind game

  • we deserve more then the sufferings of this life. MUCH MORE. if God truly punished for the things we were doing wrong, then the pain would be unbearable. God is an infinitely good and HOLY God, as well as JUST. But because of His Holiness He hates sin that much more.

  • every time I look into the mirror

  • Hell yes…..

    Candy

  • even tho we feel that way, God isn’t actually doing that. We may face the consequencs of our decisions, but Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sin. THere is no more sin to punish. It would actually be unjust of God to “punish” us now that Christ already was on our behalf. in the book of James God says, If we confess our sin God is faithful and JUST to forgive our sin and purify us from all unrighteousness.

as you can see God actually calls it JUST to FORGIVE sin, not to punish it, which has already taked place.

    That’s a pretty cool deal, yes?? I’d say….

  • Nope. I’ve never seen a kitten die.

  • no,
sometimes i feel like i get what i should though.

  • Sometimes… but then I think that’s crazy.

    ash

  • Nothing unpleasant ever happens to me unless I’m the direct cause of it.

  • Nope. That is not how I believe God operates.

Its easy to feel that way though.

  • no

  • I think rather than him punishing me, I am getting what I have earned by my own actions.

  • Would God be Just if he never diciplined anyone? If he never allowed anyone to reap the consquences of their actions, could he really be called Fair?

  • No way…  He helps me through things.(1 Corinthians 10:13)

  • Actually, that was the precise reason I left the Christian church.. even if there was a God, why was he always punishing me? It didn’t strike me like the loving God they always talked about.. so I left, became agnostic.. and switched to atheist mighty quick after that.

  • nope, whatever punishments I suffer are the consequences of my own actions – free will after all.

God is there to pick me up and carry me through those times.

  • Well, I’m not a christian, and members of my family have yet to drop dead, I’m not starving in a poor subsaharan african country, and I’m perfectly happy with life. So no, if there is a God, it isn’t punishing me for not believing in it.

  • No. I think God has blessed me far beyond what I “deserve”.

  • Not usually, but sometimes I look at the grandchildren and wonder if the sins of their ancestors are going to plague them too. But then, you look far back enough in any family, and you’ll find most every kind of sin. Thank God for grace and forgiveness.
Easter is a good time to think about this.

  • Haven’t we all?

  • no, cause and effect makes us pay for the stupid decisions we make.  Then there’s just being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

  • No. I feel He’s punishing me for all the GOOD things I’ve done.

  • I’m responsible for my own dumb decisions that result in pain, suffering, trials, etc.

  • LOL, in all honesty, I think we’ve all felt like that at one time or another.  And yes, God does DISCIPLINE His children, just as we should discipline ours.  But mostly, He blesses me, teaches me, and is EXTREMELY patient with me.

  • No;  it would be far worse if He gave me what I really deserve!

Thank you so much for “featuring” my baby; I got a ton of comments!

  • Thanks for the comments, I love playing Chess. My husband and I actually met on the Chess Team at our local College, I was the president of the chess team and he was the Vice President.

Now about God, I would like to say that he has his reasons for everything. Bad things happen to everyone, which includes saints and sinners.

  • Nope, I think I’ve punished myself more than He ever has punished me.

  • No, not really. I think that God accepts that I’ve done things wrong and such because I make an effort (well, some effort) to change.

  • even tho we feel that way, God isn’t actually doing that. We may face the consequencs of our decisions, but Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sin. THere is no more sin to punish. Totally agreed.

  • All the stinking time…

  • not really. more of relief. i feel that okay this is my punishment i can stop feeling guilty now for what i did. im did something wrong and i’m paying the price. i think the guilt is worst.

  • I think you may have a twisted image of God.

  • last week, i made fun of my boyfriend for hurting his ankle, and said something inappropriate, as a joke, about it. i wasn’t even done laughing when i fell (on my own, he didn’t even push me!) walking up the stairs and busted up my shin…

I feel like i probably deserved that, lol.

  • soemtimes… but i usually would deserve it when i feel like that anyway.

  • The crux of my relationship with God is that he has given me the opposite of what I deserve.  So, I feel like God rewards me despite the bad things I have done.

  • I have felt that way before. Now, even though there are things in my life that frustrate me, I don’t see them as punishment. I don’t know what caused the change.

  • no, but i do feel like i get punished for everything my family does wrong.

  • there is no god.

  • I dont think He cares for me much, lol, but I try to please Him.

  • I do often “get that feeling.” But I know that it isn’t true.

  • God never promised life would be easy. We are so ready to point fingers at God and ask why they happen, but Jesus said there would be trials and persecution.

  • No, becasue I don’t know what I would have done to deserve what I’ve gotten. . .so no, I don’t think God is Punishing me, sometimes I do wonder why God seems to ”hate me”.

  • Nope. People are. Thank God people are way less powerful than God and I can slam a door in their faces or hang up on them.

  • i know i probably sound like im one of those crazy religious people

but No, personally i think its the devil putting all his efforts into making you believe that god doesnt care and is punishing you.

That way he wins in making less people believe god isn’t real or that he is cruel.

God is letting all these tragedies happen around the world in order to find those who are really his followers through the good AND the bad.

Because honestly, a lot of people don’t think of god when good things are happening to them but when things go awry, they blame god or question his love towards humanity.

  • It seems like it sometimes..

  • all the damn time.
    :(

  • yes.
    every day for the
    past 8 months, basically.

  • but he blesses me everyday too.

goodness, didn’t want to sound too “emo”.

  • If you continue in sin that you know is wrong, he will bring correction and conviction upon you. If you then continue knowing that he is trying to get your attention, then sometimes he will rock your world to get you to do what you know is right. He will never leave you or forsake you. He will never give you more then you can handle. He will never hold you to your sins of the past. He spreads them as far from him as the east is from the west. However, he will get your attention.

  • no. i don’t think God punishes people.

  • No.

I believe that God created the world and it’s inhabitants and then stepped back to watch. He only puts a hand in at certain times, but no more than that. Basically, I believe in the theory of deism. We make our own decisions. People die not to punish someone or because God didn’t like them or whatever. They died because something HAPPENED to them. No interference from God. Everything just HAPPENS. When a person is murdered. That person’s family always says “Why would God do this to such a wonderful person? Why him?” Do you think God FORCED this murderer to kill someone? Did God ACT through that murderer to KILL that “wonderful person?” No. Did God give someone cancer? Did God throw that bomb in that soldier’s direction? No and no. Things just happen. Kind of like how I’m typing this message out on this computer.

  • Absolutely not. Existence is Hell, which means I would have been being punished since birth. Also, all my actions can be forseen by God, and are only due to stimuli attributed to the Creator. Everything I do is due to God’s direct actions, and I only do as can be expected by God.

In the eyes of God, any actions is simply what was meant to happen. There is no good to be rewarded, nor evil to punished, just as if there were no God at all.

  • …I still think it, though.

  • no. that’s not the way it works.

  • Yes.  In the following way:

Causing me to fall in love, and causing HIM to fall OUT of love.

    Therefore making life hell.

  • Technically, no. We are all subject to the consequences of our actions. Some would call that karma. Even Christians are not totally immune. Albeit, if we confess and repent, ala 1 John 1:9, God forgives us, and spares us from eternal damnation. ”For the wages of sin is death: but hte gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” [Romans 6:23] See also 1 John 5:4 & 5. Amen.

  • no, I mean, I feel whatever bad I did do has been punished right afterwards. I don’t feel like God would wait till you had done enough horrible things to then punish you for them.

  • Whenever something bad happens in general, I think that it’s payback for something bad I’ve done and that I totally deserved it.

  • God raped me, and all the while Capitalism took my pride.

  • There are consequences for all our choices in life. All. Good and bad.

More often than not, God in His mercy spares me from the bad consequences of my bad choices, because He is a compassionate and loving Father. When He does not spare me, I can trust that He knows what is best for me.

While those bad consequences may “seem” like a punishment, they are not. Punishment—the only punishment I can think of that is mentioned in the Bible—is reserved for the unsaved, Satan and his demons. They will be punished for eternity in Hell.

Relationship has it’s privileges. If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ, there’s no time like the present!

  • What God?
But if there is/was/has been one then I don’t know. And I honestly don’t care.

  • NO WAY !  That is a stupid topic..

  • I often wonder if God isn’t punishing us for not learning our lessons.  How many times must we repeat the same behaviors expecting different results.

Learn from our mistakes.  Don’t keep repeating them in new situations.

  • No. He saved me and has forgiven me from all the wrong I have done and will do.

  • No But perhaps sometimes I am punishing my self with my hard head, etc

  • DAILY!!!  SOMETIMES I FEEL IT A COMBINATION OF GOD AND KARMA!!!!!!

  • Yes, and I don’t even believe in God.

  • Sometimes, but then I remember that there are consequences to everything – good and bad.

  • Haha! most comments are based on how naughty or nice that person has been.. if you realised, you say yes because you do many bad things and you’re aware. you say no because you’ve done bad things and don’t realise or you’re nose is too up the air to admit.. OR you’re just too goody goody. regardless, GOD ROCKS!! hahaha.. yes and no.

    though…

i have to go with no..

  • soemtimes i do…but remember, He only gives us what He thinks we can handle.

  • is there such a thing as a “bad thing”, or don’t all actions contribute to some greater good, in the future…

Perhaps you should pose that question.

  • Nah, i dont feel taht god has any consequence and therefore cannot impact me either in positive or negative fashions.

  • Which god?

  • I have to feel that God is not keeping a score card of the things that we do wrong; He is more intrerested in if we are learing anything, and if our learning curve is taking us closer to heaven…so to answer that question I say no but trials do make us appreciate Him and look to Him for help.

  • I don’t believe God directly punishes us, but we do often create our own negative consequences when we do things he has warned us not to.

Other bad stuff that happens is because we live in a sinful, fallen world  – the world isn’t the way God wants it to be anymore.

  • I haven’t been on for a while..I like your new page, but I miss the coffee stain

  • No, God is not like that.

  • God hates me. I hate him.

I’m still waiting for him to turn the other cheek like he preaches

  • yes. all the time.

    i know he doesn’t.

but it still feels like it.

  • You know, if you use your imagination just a bit more, that question could mean all sorts of things, innocent, naughty, nice and raunchy!!

I have so much fun taking the piss out of God that it makes me wonder what he/she bothered with me anyway.

    ’nuff said…

  • Just because I may feel that way does not mean it is in any sense true. I know he’s not, and while it’s hard sometimes, that’s enough for me.

  • Nooooooo. I get the feeling that God is blessing me for the things I have YET to do.

  • Nopperz, ‘cos I don’t believe in god.

Some of these comments are ridiculously hypocritical and contradictory.

  • Ka ka ka karma.

Yes, sometimes it seems that way.

  • No, I do not. I suffer the consequences of my bad decision, and I really do not think God has anything to do with it. The God I choose to believe in is loving, forgiving & not so very vindictive. He just watches in heaven and chuckles @ my mistakes.

  • why every single day of my life.

  • God wants you to be more Christ-like
