I bet that’s a really original answer! The Japanese version may be a new touch.
Philosophically, does it matter what x equals. Can anyone truly state what x equals? Can X even be believed to state its own belief? I think it is better to let a letter’s merit stand on its actions than to place an artificial label upon it. In our society we are always labeling people and things: black or white, gay or straight, woman or man, democrat or republican, legal or illegal.
I am not sure we are better for it; let us judge each individual on their actons rather than upon some arbitrary label imposed by a textbook manufactorer in New Jersey.

Take the world and assign it to the closest sphere that it will fit. Take the volume of the sphere and divide it by 75% of the cube of the radius. mutiply that by the negative square of i and then divide that entire number by pi. Repeat two more times and add to get the results.

3. x+9=18-2x Add 2x to both sides, which cancels out the negative 2x on the right side. Subtract 9 form both sides, which cancels out the +9 on the left side fo the equation. 3x=9 is the remaining equation. divide both sides by 3, and your answer is x=3.

At first I thought it was 9 too. I suck at Algebra.
it is 3
3
x=3. could you make it a little harder next time?
3, I sorta suck at math though.
3.
3
Simplifying
x + 9 = 18 + -2x
Reorder the terms:
9 + x = 18 + -2x
Solving
9 + x = 18 + -2x
Solving for variable ‘x’.
Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.
Add ’2x’ to each side of the equation.
9 + x + 2x = 18 + -2x + 2x
Combine like terms: x + 2x = 3x
9 + 3x = 18 + -2x + 2x
x = 3 lol That was an easy one. Then again, I’m still in school…

three. 3. III. …

3, had to work it out though
I admit I am mathematically challenged because on first guess I got 4.5, but I guess it must be three as that is what everyone else said. There is a reason why I majored in English… I suppose I could think up a really challenging English question, but no one would answer because it would take so long.
I came to vote for Paige, but I don’t see the little thingie she was talking about. So if by some bizarre chance you actually read this and don’t delete it, as has happened in the past… I vote for Paige.

I got three without trying. C’mon I have an D in honnors algebra, this is simple.
Threeeee
“negative nine DOES work. a negative times a negative is a positive, which means 2x would equal 18. >.< you’re right dan, our education sucks. i’m still in middle school (not for much longer!). I would know. =P”
Nope. Sure a negative times a negative is a positive, and while that nine is negative, the two is positive. Positive two times negative nine does not equal positive 18…
Plus, it doesn’t become 2x = 18. It becomes 3x = 9. 2x = 18 would not work.. because (2)(3) does not equal 18…

You’ve got some good mathematicians reading your blog!!

I’m a math tutor
Well, I was going to guess 9, but then I looked at it again and got 3.

I was hoping I got the right answer: 3
3
Took about 3 seconds, too.
x = 3!!! Yay, me! I remembered!
3. and I didn’t look at anyone elses either!
Man, I left algebra behind in high school,and I’m going to leave it there.
LOL, yeah, right…
x=three
which reminds me of the crappy last Xmen movie. thanks.
Yea, great question, dan. 3
x = 3
I hate math…

x + 9 = 18 – 2x
x= 9-2x
3x = 9
x = 3
3, not difficult XD

Am I the only one who thinks algebra is fun?
3 is a magic number
yes it is, it’s a magic number.
I just do not love math… so I am not even going to go there…lol

Wow! I actually managed to do that in my head!
x=3
3. x+9=18-2x Add 2x to both sides, which cancels out the negative 2x on the right side. Subtract 9 form both sides, which cancels out the +9 on the left side fo the equation. 3x=9 is the remaining equation. divide both sides by 3, and your answer is x=3.
was there any point to this
LOL…I THINK IT’S FUNNY THAT YOU HAVE 330+ EPROPS FOR THIS POST!!!

At first I thought it was 9 too. I suck at Algebra.
it is 3

x=3. could you make it a little harder next time?
3, I sorta suck at math though.

Simplifying
x + 9 = 18 + -2x
Reorder the terms:
9 + x = 18 + -2x
Solving
9 + x = 18 + -2x
Solving for variable ‘x’.
Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right.
Add ’2x’ to each side of the equation.
9 + x + 2x = 18 + -2x + 2x
Combine like terms: x + 2x = 3x
9 + 3x = 18 + -2x + 2x
Combine like terms: -2x + 2x = 0
9 + 3x = 18 + 0
9 + 3x = 18
Add ‘-9′ to each side of the equation.
9 + -9 + 3x = 18 + -9
Combine like terms: 9 + -9 = 0
0 + 3x = 18 + -9
3x = 18 + -9
Combine like terms: 18 + -9 = 9
3x = 9
Divide each side by ’3′.
x = 3
Simplifying
x = 3
YEAH…LIKE I DID IT…
X=3
x = 3 lol That was an easy one. Then again, I’m still in school…
You have a lot of comments and eprops on this post… lol That’s a bit sad really.

I’m guessing 3. It’s been a while!
3 hah
x=3
Negative 9 doesn’t work. That would make the left side equal zero, and the right side equal 36 (18 minus negative 18 equals positive 36).

X = 3
takes me back to sixth grade here, which is 2x
…give us a REAL math problem. come on, Dan.
x = ∫ from 0 to 3 of 1dx

I DISLIKE algebra with every fiber of my being.

Although taking Calculus has made me overthink simple math problems, it hasn’t fried my brain completely. yet.
Thank you, math teacher. I get to feel smart in somewhere besides school.

x = the square root of 9
THE ANSWER IS= WHO GIVES A FUCK?
X + 9 = 18 – 2 X
2X + X + 9 = 18 – 2X + 2X
3X + 9 = 18
3X + 9 – 9 = 18 -9
3X = 9
X = 3
X = 3
x=2/3
oops
i’m even taking algebra 2 right now. that’s sad.

The answer is approximately 1 + the 10th root of 3 – the 10th root of 3^2 + the 10th root of 3^3 – the 10th root of 3^4 + the 10th root of 3^5 – the 10th root of 3^6 + the 10th root of 3^7 – the 10th root of 3^8 + the 10th root of 3^9.
I’m sorry, I can’t. I never was one for math. Give me a play and I’ll act it out for you, but a math problem? Sorry.

Homeschooling my daughter in pre-algebra this year (sigh)
Three! Woo hoo! I got it right.
This was so easy compared to the math that I’m doing at the moment. And, to solve this problem, I grabbed the nearest piece of scratch paper and a green crayon. Yeah. I’m cool.
3. algebra is loooooooooooove!

I pick -9 I don’t care if 3 also works.
three. 3. III. …
negative nine DOES work. a negative times a negative is a positive, which means 2x would equal 18. >.< you’re right dan, our education sucks. i’m still in middle school (not for much longer!). I would know. =P
3. luv ya and god bless
lol
3
heh. what was the point of this, dan?
three.
3
3, had to work it out though
I admit I am mathematically challenged because on first guess I got 4.5, but I guess it must be three as that is what everyone else said. There is a reason why I majored in English… I suppose I could think up a really challenging English question, but no one would answer because it would take so long.
I came to vote for Paige, but I don’t see the little thingie she was talking about. So if by some bizarre chance you actually read this and don’t delete it, as has happened in the past… I vote for Paige.

I’m a nanny so I did this with a crayon on a tissue. The answer’s 3, and I’m so happy my brain hasn’t rotted so badly that I can’t do Algebra anymore.

I hate math.

im in 6th grade and i am algabra
3 i love algebra!
3, of course. That wasn’t entirely fair for me, though. I’m in both Trig./Advanced Algebra and Algebra II this year. (but I still hate most types of math! haha)
- 9 works if it is a mod 18 algebra.
x=3
I got three without trying. C’mon I have an D in honnors algebra, this is simple.
