  • Anti-Rape Device

A woman has invented an anti-rape device that is about to go to market.

It is like a female condom and was designed to protect women in South Africa from rape.  The “teeth” attach to the penis and give injuries that would need the care of a doctor.  It has generated controversy because of the potential for misuse.  Here is the link:  Link

Would you support use of the anti-rape device?

  • you are all (literally) beneath me.

  • Hey! It’s the condoom! I remember being taught about this in Life Orientation. This is like… from a long time ago… And then I never heard about it again…

  • if men still like to receive ‘toothy’ oral sex, then the teeth on this thing won’t stop them.

  • I think it’s a great way to piss off your husband or boyfriend or something…

  • Everything has the potential for misuse … the Bible, cooking utensils, bb-guns, should we ban all those things as well? I’m for the device, give the ladies some kind of defense against predators.

  • but when would one have the time to put that on? does she just stop the rapist and ask if she could put a penis gnawing condom on first before he rapes her?. or does she just assume that walking down the street she will get raped and where it out of the house? im confused

  • Haha! That thing looks funny.

  • I heard of this years ago as well … I would think there would be health ramifications for the woman wearing it, if it were worn constantly in fear of rape.

  • can she get away before he kills her tho?

  • yes.  it would help to possibly stop the spread of aids in africa and help to stop the violence against women if guys knew something was going to bite their balls.

  • But my friend, Nkhangweleni, said the only way to cure the AIDS is by fornicating with the young virgin women of the land, and they never give any these days.

  • I’m with sportchic160. Does she just wear it all the time? Maybe for women who live in dangerous areas they put it on outside? Or something? The idea seems a little complicated, but I don’t think it’s bad.. Anything that protects people I am for.

  • It would make a great April Fool’s Day joke!

  • Is it comfortable to wear?  Bring back the iron Everlast chastity belts!

Wouldn’t mace/pepper spray be just as effective?

  • Why do I find this funny?

  • kudos to her for inventing a penis-biting fish !

  • The vagina with teeth!! Man’s worst fear realized. Interesting.

ruralhippie — mace/pepper spray take too long, it’s impossible to whip it out before he whips his out, you know? And speaking purely as a fetish model who has been threatened the horror of chastity belts… NO. Ugh… just… ick, have you ever thought of, “Hm, how do they go to the bathroom with those on?” The entire idea of such a thing is AWFUL. Tubes and such. Ewwwwwwwwww.

Eh, I can’t argue against the selling of such things, in fact I think it’s a rather marvelous invention. Anti-rape device, quite interesting. I eagerly await tales of angry girlfriends wearing one… or girls who simply forget to take it out…

  • … I fucking love this thing. I come from a family where males are superior, so I fucking laughed my ass off. I believe this should be used. I read about this the other day; this is something easy to put on and you put it on before you leave the house… That was a common sense (which is rare) line of thought. As mentioned above, eveything has a potential of mis-use. Most girls are weak so this would be the only way to protect themselves. I don’t believe that a guy could get up very quickly with this thing latched on and causing pain.

  • I guess if they’re willing to wear it…

  • wow. um …sure?

  • yes. i’d be furious if stupid people decide they shouldn’t be allowed to wear them.

  • it seems to me it would make the guy really, really angry. the woman would already be in a terribly vulnerable position, I’m not sure he wouldn’t try and kill her after that…unless it manages to take the whole thing completely off…then it might well be worth it.

  • I’m not so much concerned about the misuse but about the ramifications.  Once men who want to rape women realize these things, wouldn’t there be a backlash?  It’s like the story where in order to get rid of the rat problem, snakes were introduced.  But then there was a snake problem, and mongoose were introduced.  And then there was a mongoose problem…
In my opinion, while I don’t condemn this device, there’s no protection better than education and safety.

  • (addendum: I say this to mean that perhaps men will just become more violent…)

  • Its good… but it sounds so painful the guy would become much more violent and things might go worse for the women as he possibly kills her and runs away.

  • I seen this as puch line of a few joke. Who was to know such a thing really existed. Teeth

I prefer the anti rape device that Samuel Colt developed

  • If they can work out all the potential snares, I’m all for it!

  • I would definately support a woman for using that.
Of course, she’d have to take it off for her husband/boyfriend.
But walking downtown late at late or whatever, that’s brilliant.

  • Talk about vagina dentata!

  • why would there be ANY question as to whether its a “hate on men” thing????
they shouldnt be raping us in the first place

  • Hell yes….Women need something besides a gun in their arsenal.

    Candy

  • what’s going to happen when the men beat the woman for having this toothy condom on?

  • its a woman body and her right…

  • LMAO, I would like to see this happening already!

  • Once he’s in, it’s rape…

  • But what about lesbian rape?

  • Neato!

  • What ever happened to community lynchings?

  • I suppose a guy would probably get really angry about it, then violent…

but it could come with a warning page that says, if youre about to be raped, warn the guy about your defense. Then hopefully he wouldnt go for it at all…

  • In places where it is mandated and needed to a huge degree, possibly. But not before it had more alterations to make it more ethical and usable.

  • …That is crazy… Can’t a guy just, you know…reach down and take it out? Or what if the woman is married or something? Does she use it when she leaves the house? Can they be used more then once? What kind of person comes -up- with something like that?! Bizarre…

  • I would support that women have the right to use the device if they choose to. But I’m not sure about the device itself, it’s interesting, to say the least.
But as other comments have mentioned, it might lead the men, once they realize what’s going on, to become more violent.

  • Having never been to one, I can’t quite understand the mechanism and stages of a rape in Africa.

That thing looks quite punishing, and that in this case is a good thing, as Martha Stewart would say, however, a only moments ago violently horny angry person who is now in pain and bleeding from his penis?

I think the statistics for women’s murder in Africa would go up as the incidence of completed rape goes down.

  • I particularly would in South Africa, because of the very high incidence of rape and disease spread by rape there.
    So yes. I would.

And don’t anybody say it’s because I don’t have a penis — cuz I like the cock as much as the next gal.

  • Prevention? Possible…but think of it like internet viruses…someone will think of a way to ‘beat the system’

  • It makes sense in Africa with such a high crime rate of rape. It would definitely prove rape with the rapist sustaining an injury! I can see however, abuse by some women who are out for revenge and wear it and don’t tell their boyfriend who’s cheated on them.

  • All it takes is one woman to get drunk….

  • Sure.  Any woman in their right mind wouldn’t use it on someone who’s not trying to rape her, and men are taking their own chances trying to fuck someone not in their right mind.

  • OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    this is great…

  • is this thing for real?

it has a lot of flaws for sure

  • Can we make an anti-rape device that would be functional BEFORE the woman has already been assaulted, had her clothes torn off, and the man’s penis inserted into her vagina?

  • Oh My God, that’s almost funny..

I think the device is a good idea, but I think it carries a lot of potential for people to use it wrong (stupid pranks get out of hand, get revenge on a boyfriend you just discovered was cheating, etc.)… so I really don’t think I support it at this point.

But then, I don’t know everything about it.

  • seems like a good idea to me…

  • What’s a rapist to do after getting his penis torn to shreds?
    Probably kill the victim.
    Hmm.
    Think about it.

  • I’m sure it’d be easy for a rapist to check for. Maybe they should hold free self-defense seminars, or hand out pepper spray. It’d be cheaper, and in the long run more effective.

  • Haha. Only a woman could invent something like this.

If the device works, and it protects women from rape, then I’ll support it.

  • this could start some sort of sexual arms race where men start wearing protectors, and then women get something even more powerful, and then one day nuclear weapons will be involved somehow and we’ll end up destroying the world.

  • How do they know it works? I mean, the compensation rates must be sky-high for the poor guys who did the product testing for this particular contraceptive.

  • How the hell is it worn?

  • wow. um …sure?
Posted 3/25/2007 8:59 AM by mooshpitmatt

    i agree

  • Oh yes, I remember listening to a radio interview with her. Yes, yes there is potential for misuse and all that. You don’t realise how bad it is in South Africa though. Considering the circumstances I’m all for it.

  • Hhhhmm….What I don’t understand is how is it used per say? Like, does the woman have to wear it all the time under the assumption that she’ll get raped?  But, despite that, I’m for anything that’ll help protect the women from rape.

  • yeah i would support it…especially for the women in Africa

  • Oh and the device can only be removed surgically.

  • uh….. yes!

  • Anything has the potential for misuse.

If this can protect women…why shouldn’t it be allowed?

That’s kickass.  I didn’t even know about that until I read it on here.

  • I think it’d be a tad bit uncomfortable to wear it always. It’s made to hurt men, but what is stopping it from hurting us when it becomes misplaced? It probably increases the risk for infection too, since bacteria might live on them.

Though having a vagina with teeth does sound funny.

Still, kudos for the woman for inventing this stuff. I just believe, though, that people should be educated well before it is mass produced.

And i still think prevention is better than cure. Look at the root of the problem. It isn’t with defenseless women, it’s about violent and twisted rapists.

  • amazing! Yes, but I’m not sure I’d like to wear it all the time

  • Is this a rhetorical question?

  • Old news, Dan. Old news.

  • I’m pretty open to the idea since I haven’t really read any strong arguments against it.

I do wonder, though, if it would cause bleeding.  If it did, the woman could still perhaps catch something, which wouldn’t be nice.

I figure you’d have to live in a pretty rough area to wear one, though.  I played baseball and rarely wore a cup because I thought the chances were so slim.  Only once was that a bad decision.

  • Also, to sugar_and_charm:

    1) It may be easy to check for, but I doubt most rapists would think to.

    2) “Free” self-defense seminars cost more than consumers paying for the Rapex (though I guess that depends on perspective).  However, the thing is, giving a woman a can of pepper spray and a self-defense class doesn’t make her invulnerable.  The idea with Rapex seems to me to be something that protects you whether you are prepared or not.  Any legitimate self-defense class isn’t going to leave you feeling like you’re Jennifer Lopez in enough; it’ll let you know that you’re overpowered and have to fight dirty to have a fighting chance.

  • so would that mean the girl would have to wear that everywhere considering rape can happen any second of the day?

  • Tough call. I don’t know if I support it or not. I do, if it is used correctly and is effective without the man being provoked to just kill her. If a man is going to be evil enough to rape her, I can’t imagine him just standing down while she fought back and basically neutered him.

  • as a rape victim, i would fully support preventing rape in any measure.

  • Wow, interesting. That’s the kind of woman’s choice I can agree with.

  • I hope that the girl doesn’t forget to take that out when she’s with a partner.

  • wow, I dont know. I would be afraid of being hurt more at that point. Unless it completely debilitated the rapist, it seems to me the rapist, at that point would become more enraged and more violent.

  • absolutely. of course it will never fly because it would hurt men; never mind what a woman goes through – it’s all about the man’s “comfort” when he rapes a woman.

  • jensa: education and safety do not prevent rape.

  • I’d use it, but only in an S&M relationship.

  • In a way I agree with jensa07. In posts similar to this I have voiced my concern on the issue. This would great a backlash. Misuse isn’t the concern. The concern is that a man might get a tad bit pissed off when his dick gets bitten into by an anti-rape device. If it isn’t crushing his balls, making him pass out, then the man would only be enraged by this, thus creating a very big problem. What if a drunk girl goes to have sex with a guy and forgets she has this in (due to the drunken state)…poor guy.
    Derek

  • I cannot believe the ignorant answers I have read here: a woman suggesting it be made more ethical? What the hell is ethical about a man raping a woman?

An arms race? Men are already the violent predators! They don’t need to come up with something more violent than rape! And any rape victim can tell you that death is not the worst thing that can happen.

I think it’s high time society got over this notion that women exist to serve, service, and please men – that women should be nice no matter what a man does, that men can beat the hell out of a woman, can destroy her life, but she can’t fight back.

  • ROFL.

    WEIRD.

    But yes. :]

  • Its hard to say. While I agree with the idea of women protecting themselves..but I think there should be another way to discourage men from doing it..because I do think that a man would retaliate and become more violent..that potential is there.

  • should invent one that shoots bullets

  • I don’t see how you’d use it, really.  I mean, it’s way too paranoid to wear something all the time, right?

  • that’s really cool….

  • Duh.  Of course. . .

I haven’t read the comments yet, but if anybody says no they’re fkced up!

  • In my opinion, while I don’t condemn this device, there’s no protection better than education and safety.

Um. . .guys already know that they’re not supposed to rape. . .they do it anyway.
As for your concerns about it causing them to be more violent, aren’t they already?

If somebody tried to rape me, I would bite off their dick!

  • im totally for this

  • this is a really good idea, i love it.

  • Haha. Only a woman could invent something like this.

    Um. . .okay. . .

  • Haha. Only a woman could invent something like this.
    PartofaBalancedBreakfast

    Um. . .okay. . .

  • I see no reason why it shouldn’t be used. Misuse happens with everything so of course this will be misused.

  • “I do wonder, though, if it would cause bleeding.  If it did, the woman could still perhaps catch something, which wouldn’t be nice.”

hmmm, good point. . .will this lead to a greater likelihood of aids?

  • I heard about this years ago as well.

I think the device is great in places where women live in fear for their lives.

  • how would you even use that thing? The picture sure doesn’t help. But i suppose if it can protect women it should be put on the market, but wouldn’t you have to buy it? Most women in Africa are very poor, if you really want to help give it for free

  • Why shouldn’t they be allowed to wear it? It’s not like you’re “murdering a baby”. You’re just severely injuring a rapist’s penis.

  • Definitely an interesting idea. I’d never heard of it before. I support having it as an option. I sincerely hope that women wouldn’t misuse it, but it’s always a possibility. Not enough of a reason to refuse it though.
I hope the consequences don’t get worse, e.g. greater violence against women, more anal rapes instead of vaginal to avoid the teeth.

  • I would make a penis guillotine though.

  • hey, with reasonable thinking in mind, is there one of those for the um..

    arse?

  • I have heard before of women in foreign contries doing that to troops during times of war… i guess thats why im not too suprised… only i think then it was shard of glass… i guess anyone trying to rape deserves that but if i was a girl/woman i dont know if i would want to use it/wear it all the time.

    - Daniel (doubledb)

  • Uhh.. yeah! That asshole deserves it!

  • So…that goes in the vagina? Hey if it prevents rape then great. But if one of those things clamped onto me I’d be very angry. A rapist could possibly react to this with extreme violence.

  • hmmm doesnt sound like it’s a great deal of success for women to put one on. ultimately, the guy will catch on remove it. and ouch for the stupid fools who even would thought of committing such crime.

  • This is a really really really old story. I blogged about that months ago in SunnyNightmares. Sheesh, Dan.

  • first thought was the retribution the woman would get for using it.  If she warns him, all he would have to do is remove it first.  Rape is such an awful thing to begin with – adding protection is a logical thing but I am not sure it would be effective.

  • In Africa, yes, I think its a good thing.

  • Yes. Especially in countries in Africa where women are raped when they dare to leave their homes. ANd until the people of Africa get the recognition they deserve, these women-condoms will have to do.

  • Hm. I guess…

  • I agree with jensa07 – Once men learn about this device, if a guy is going to rape someone he will definately 1) check to see if she is wearing one in the first place and 2) be more violent to the woman.

I also agree with others who have said that this devise is not practical – what, just put the device on everytime you go out alone? Chances are after a while they’d ignore it. What are the chances of being raped while wearing this device? And then what are the chances of the guy not choosing to hurt the girl before dealing with the device?

I don’t condemn it, either, but I don’t promote it.

  • I suppose, as a last resort…

  • helllllls jes i would!

whoever would misuse that would be a psycho.

  • could I get a smaller one in case I go to prison?

  • Isn’t this just a device called a dentata?  I thought they had existed in other cultures, going back quite awhile.

  • o.o

Are the women just going to walk around with those on constantly? It’s a bit impractical.

  • Sure, if it’ll help.

  • yeah, i don’t understand how it wouldn’t hurt the woman though…

  • YES! that’s one of my biggest fears…i’m sure it would also help being infected with aids from being raped too

  • If used how it should be…maybe.  My fear is for the woman still.  I can see the man/men getting so angry at her they would automatically slice her throat.  I really would fear retaliation for the poor girl.

  • While it’s intentions are good, I would be worried that with the wrong method of insertion, the thing would turn around inside and bite the poor woman back.

  • is this the grand solution to rape?
    a penis-trap?

  • Yes, I’m curious as to how it would work as well.
    And.. “condoom”? Lmao.

  • ..If he started bleeding from it and he had aids..

  • I’d think the guy would be so self-absorbed in his poor injured penis that the girl would have time to get away.  Hopefully.

I could’ve used one of these about 29 years ago…how drastically different life may have turned out!

  • I think it is great; however, the fact that it is in your vagina and makes the penis bleed might actually make the transmission of HIV more likely. They need to investigate that.

  • any invention can virutally be “misused”. I think more good than bad could come from this.

  • Potential for misuse? If you aren’t sticking your penis in a woman’s vagina, you don’t have to worry about the device… that is dumb.

  • Yes. My greatest concern would be for the poor woman wearing one when she was raped. While the perpetrator would be prevented from completing the deed, I would think he would be greatly angered. What would he do to her then?

  • props for being creative at least! haha!

  • Sure!  That would be a blast for assholes and it would be better for little girls too!

  • so, how does she get it out?

  • didn’t you already post about this before

  • ya I would

  • sure the rapist could end up killing the victim but if there was a chance that the girl could get away they would eventually catch the bastard. this device is only removed by the help of a doctor so when he goes in to get his penis checked they’ll have to report him to the police. this in turn would save others from being raped by the same creep. and yes, there’s danger involved for the victim wearing this device but who said the rapist wasn’t going to kill the girl afterwards? at least this way he’ll be caught and the victim would have a better chance in surviving this incident.

  • yeah, pretty much

  • All I have to say to this is Innovation is the key to success, if those bite marks force a man to go to the doctor, medicare might have to support rapists who turn into victims.

  • But then again forcing a man to get to the doctor isn’t a bad thing either not that I think rape is a good thing.

  • Wouldn’t that hurt to “wear”?

  • so it’s not designed to prevent rape? which is what the name anti-rape suggests to me.

it’s designed to punish rapers? or maybe rapers will think twice because they won’t know who’s wearing one?

  • It’s a good deterrant.

  • hell yea i would support it. Finally a way for women to fight back no matter what size they are

  • “why would there be ANY question as to whether its a “hate on men” thing????”

    because of comments like these

“I think it’s a great way to piss off your husband or boyfriend or something…”

“It would make a great April Fool’s Day joke!”

“I eagerly await tales of angry girlfriends wearing one… or girls who simply forget to take it out… “

though i do think that for an actual rapist, this is a step in the right direction, perhaps this in combination with the Colt, Remmington, or Smith and Wesson prevention systems. down him with this, then out him with the other.

  • Omy Gosh, thats horrible!

  • They had better include an anti-murder device in the package.

  • you go girls….. but oh the retaliation will be nasty

  • I would support Rapex….why not protect ourselves if our bodies need protecting?

  • Who wouldn’t?

  • Definately. But is it something that the woman would have to wear 24/7, cause you can’t stop in the middle of the attack to put it on, exactly . ..

  • I applaud Sonnet Ehlers, inventor of the Rapex (I think it needs a better name…Penis-B-Gone or something equally flashy) for giving a damn and trying to make a difference.

Regardless, this seems like a case of treating the symptoms but not the disease…so while it’s an incredible thing to take to task, I worry that perhaps this is a product that is a tad bit myopic to say the least.

Rape is a social issue. It needs to be resolved from the ground up.

Still, she get’s a thousand gold stars for coming up with the most masochistic product since the thong. Or Paris Hilton’s debut cd, which is also equally painful to think about.

  • I’m surprised no one has mentioned yet that the real problem with rape doesn’t come from the woman, and therefore shouldn’t be solved by constantly expecting women to be on the defensive (although I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with using mace or this device). Ultimately, men need to see women as people to be loved and protected, not things to be used. Men need to walk women home. To call if their wife, sister, friend, etc is running late. To teach their sons how valuable women are. Why are women the ones who always have to talk about rape?

  • sure, i dont plan on rapping anyone

  • In reference to the “can she get away from him if he kills her tho” comment. Do you think he’s going to chase her with his penis hanging halfway off? At that point in the game, I think she has the upperhand.

I’m all for it!!!! I would love to hear of a rapists getting his “weapon” bit off by one of these!!!!

  • My friend told me about this a couple of months ago. I suppose the reasoning behind it (if there was any…) makes sense, but…ugh, what if theres this girl who’s out to get someone and accusing them of rape with that…thing as her indisputable proof…

How are you supposed to get the stupid thing on anyway? Also, what if that the fish malfunctions and backfires; hurting the girl?

  • This thing would hurt the fuck out of any guy. But I can’t help but applaud the genius of the ides. I’m all for it, provided there are certian measures of protection against misuse (ie angry girlfriend/wife).

    ’nuff said…

  • it girls women a choice to control the situation…that is a good thing…bravo to the mother of that invention!

  • that’s not where the problem is. fix the rapists, not the vaginas.

  • lmfao biting condom.

    Yes

  • WHERE can I get one of those!? lol. If they’re gonna stick it in when I say no, then hell yeah, they can go to the hospital instead of me filling out a rape report, and getting a fucking rape kit and being humiliated. it’d be the only way to identify if a story were true or not, since most rape cases end in bullshit where no one gives a damn about the victim. make the offender the victim i say.

  • If men bleed from it, it could have the potential of making the AIDS epidemic even worse.
