Here is an IM conversation I had tonight:

I’ll usually right “brb.” But, if I felt comfortable enough with the person I am talking to, I tell them that I had to pee.

I would say brb and put up an away message to be on the safe side. Just in case it is an incredibly long BM.
Sometimes I’ll say it, but not always. If they ask for an explanation, I give them one.
If I know I won’t be long, I just kind of… run to the bathroom without saying anything and then come back. x]

I would say BRB and come back and say “I went to get some water.” That’s my standard line and if I’ve ever used that while chatting with you, I’m sorry.

All you have to say is “brb”. Most people either figure you went to the bathroom, or went to the refrigerator for a cold drink.
It would depend on who I was talking to. I would more than likely say “I gotta go to the bathroom, brb…” unless it was somebody I talked to only on the internet and didn’t have a very personal relationship with them… then I’d stick with “brb…” But if I only knew them through the internet but had a very deep friendship with them, then I’d tell I had to go to the bathroom. You get the point, lol…

Um, everyone has “bowel movements” and I do all the time. And on the phone as well.

if it’s someone I don’t consider a good friend, I just say brb (be right back), and then don’t explain, but if they area close friend or just someone I want to tease and embarrass, I announce that “nature calls” or “pardon me while I run to the loo.” It generally gets a good chuckle
Of course. And afterward, I generally describe the level of satisfaction it brought me as well. My friends and I are rather crass…

It depends who it is. Most people, I would say I will be back in a bit, and then just disappear. With close friends and family, I hand out the real deal. But we are all just that frank with each other, so it isn’t a big deal.
With most friends I just say, ‘Brb I have to go to the bathroom,’ but when it comes to my best friend, he and I totally honest about what we need to leave to do.

Haha, like most, I probably wouldn’t tell the specifics. I would probably just say I’ll be back in a few minutes. If you say brb, they are probably expecting that you wont be gone but for a couple of seconds. Be back in a few is very general, and it gives you as much time as you need to do your business.
