Internet Civility
A ton has been written recently on internet civility and manners. In fact, there are people that are actually trying to bring a “code of conduct” for internet discussion. I read an article that asked “Is it too late to bring civility to the Web?” Here is the link: Link
I have decided to come up with my own code of conduct here on my site:
# 1 No comments can be left by people that don’t display their actual profile pic.
In other words, you will not be allowed if you use one of these profile pics that mask your identity. It is time that people take responsibility for their words. The only way to do that is to post your real photo with your comments.
# 2 No cursing.
I am tired of your potty mouthed comments. Many of us find it offensive.
# 3 No atheist.
You must be a Bible believing Christian to post comments on here. We don’t want you nonchristians corrupting the conversation.
# 4 Vote Republican
You must have voted for George W. Bush twice. He is our fearless leader. He is our commander in chief.
# 5 You must not use negative words in your comments.
The comments need to be written in a positive and uplifting way. For example, “I am not sure I agree with the esteemed gentlemen from Texas.”
# 6 No sarcasm
If you use sarcasm, we may not totally understand what you are trying to communicate.
Is it too late to bring civility to the Web?
Comments (246)
haha
Am I first?
And i don’t fit any o’ that criteria, but what can ya do?
Second?
Umm – No comment.
No such thing. No way, no how. It’s a stupid idea through and through.
If those are the terms, I’d say it probably is.
Besides, I love my sarcasm too much!
yes. people are going to do what they want to do, and that’s that.
Maybe. People seem to have a need to write without thinking. Spelling would be a nice addition.
Darn, I can’t comment anymore.
and i wish all this political correctness would go away.
people need to relax up in this piece!
All the way up to “no sarcasm” i was with you Dan. But I must take issue with my esteemed colleague from Texas. Sarcasm is just my nature
whateva….whateva…i do what i want
It’s too late to bring civility to anything in any entirety. Time was up before civility existed.
Perhaps a “Hell yeah it is, sucker” would’ve been a more fittingly witty response.
haha you’ll lose all your commenters then
Regarding #2: I don’t put up my actual picture because I started getting comments from a 50+ year old married-with-children man. That was gross!
Regarding #3: I try not to cuss, trying to quit the terrible habit myself.
Regarding #4: I have!!
Regarding #5: MWHAHAHHAHAHA
Regarding #6: Oops,
Yeah.
At least I have #1 down.
I really do look a little like an emu…really.
I was born looking like this. I’m cute.
And in response to your question (even though i’m a bush-bashing democrat with enough sarcasm to kill a small mammal)…Yes, i’m quite sure it is far too late.
Exactly how could anyone possibly enforce any of the silly rules your proposed over the internet?
“Spelling would be a nice addition.”
Eat . . . and . . .
What? Of course this picture is of me. I show a very strong resemblence to a physcopath leprechaun.
And of course it’s too late. I mean, I’m on this.
Hahaha, I’m breaking so many rules. Just try and stop me (which you probably can).
On a serious note, it’s never too late to save the world of the internet.
i guess it’s bye, bye then !!
wait, i don’t get it.. are you being serious?
Numero seis is my fave.
My number one internet rule I’d add–no 1337 or chatspeak. For crying out loud, type out your words! It’s a futile endeavor, though–they’re all ready entrenched in our forums, confusing our literate. It’s a sad, sad, cyber world…
Too late? Noooooooo, not at all. I think everyone will follow this lovely new code of conduct quite happily.
Too late, I guess.
free speech is, afterall, enhanced by civility.
You’ve gotta be kidding. If not, I’m gone.
meh, that’s life.
wait, i don’t get it.. are you being serious?
Posted 4/9/2007 9:20 PM by x_becki
OF COURSE HE’S SERIOUS!!!!
God, go back and read the list.
Number 6. Duh.
Oh hell, now I cannot comment any longer. My dog is much cuter than I am therefore I rather you admire her beauty!!!
hahaha…
When do I get blocked? At least we all can see me…
Had me scared;]
Rules for Internet civility are only as potent as their ability to be enforced. Since the only punishment available on Xanga is banning, the only enforcable rules are those severe enough to merit banning.
haha, yeah, it’s too late. but i think that some of those requirements aren’t “civility,” it’s just being close-minded and not open for discussion, which I kind of felt was the whole point of your site, different points of view (i.e. #s 3&4). But, even with different requirements, it’s too late to “bring civility to the web.”
I really liked this one, Dan.
yeah, closed fucking mindedness. that’ll get you a discussion worth having. how about if everyone who already agrees on everything goes to a website so they can rehash and repeat each other all day long.
notice i added profanity SIMPLY because you told me not to… i really find people who are offended by profanity to be pussies of an extreme nature. then again i also realize that in no way do you intend to actually follow up on your “rules.” you just put them up there to get a rise out of angsty democrats, didn’t you?
# 1 Does Dan have to show his picture?
# 4 I wasn’t old enough to vote for Bush, but I will get to vote in the next election.
# 6 Sarcasm is what makes the world go ’round Dan!
haha.
too late? yeah. pretty much.
Well, I guess I won’t be allowed to comment here either.
Sounds… well… really boring!
-Josh
internet civility and internet manners???
fuck internet civility and manners………………………..
fucking overlook manners.
also………….
Overlook spelling, grammer, punctuation, slang, drunkenness, or anything else for that matter! fuck it all…….
Woah.
a majority of your subscribers will be GONE.
The only rule I didn’t break is number one.
FUCK
first five of six. . . sarcasm is a free service.
You’re silly.
Of course it isn’t too late Dan. I’m going to go read my bible and burn the Davinci code now.
Yes, but we golly sure can try Mr. Theologian!
aw hell
The sarcasm part may be a little tough to follow.
nice
# 1 I don’t like the way I look and I really don’t want other people to see me, so…yeah
# 2 Working on it. I usually don’t cuss on the internet. In person, however, is a different story.
# 3 No problem. Although I don’t think atheists pollute the system, they just make it more interesting.
# 4 The first time I wasn’t old enough to vote and the second time I realized ol’Georgie was joke. Sorry.
# 5 That’s not possible for me. See what I mean?
# 6 Ah, why not?
But to answer your question, I don’t think so. If you’re civil others might pick up on it. There are some, however, that don’t know how to act like anything other than monkeys. So for them it won’t be easy.
Lol nub, bite me.
Oh it’s me in the picture . . . just not all too recent.
And yes, I really am a green, sunken battleship. No lie.
All y’all need to re-read #6… and grow a sense of humor and/or critical thinking skills.
The real world doesn’t seem fare much better.
We have no table manners either.
lol yeah its a tad to late. i agree with #3 though=]
“He is our fearless leader. He is our commander in chief.”
you had me almost peeing my pants right there
.
Way too late. Also, the first draft of conduct is criticized for overly protecting politeness in exchange for freedom.
Of course, the griefers are partly responsible for this (and trolls, and spammers, and flamers…) but it’s rather ridiculous.
Don’t follow the trend. Thoughtful discussions will NOT happen if you put too much restriction into it. For example, your said conduct: I am sure it will drop your popularity (comment-wise, anyway) by > 50%.
Me being one of them. I’m probably breaking all rules, except maybe the sarcasm part.
Can there be a rule about spelling? Or typing like a moron??
Would it even be a conversation without the atheists? Just a bunch of people agreeing. I thought conversations needed to include some argumentative discourse. You know you love the non-believers for it.
Hmmm…those are stupid rules.
This is my actual profile pic.
Haha–interesting…I’m excited to see where this goes.
ok but in all seriousness, us swearing, scarcastic athiests are what make this place fun
*sarcastic, gah
ha ha!!!!!
Yikes, I’m in trouble then…
*farts*
Well…
One, two, five and six don’t seem to be asking too much…
As for numbers three and four, I thought you were a bit more open-minded than that, Dan.
Good luck in the future. I’ll miss the engaging questions…
No. And personally i like it this way. The exit button is at the top, click it if you don’t like it.
Freedom of speech for the win.

one word:
humor.
lol and obviously some of those rules have sarcasm implemented in them. Erm, some people are taking you seriously though, hah.
Number six, no sarcasm.
Having read the first five before the sixth, I’m reminded of the man who said, “everything I say is a lie.”
Question: is he telling the truth?
i can abide by all of those but number 1, mostly because i dont have a pic of myself anywhere on my pc and no camera.
i do, however, believe that it is admirable to have online civility, just as it is admirable to be chivalrous. i try and fail in both areas, but all humans fail.
peace, love, hummer

i’m confused now o_o.. please be more specific. Is dan’s whole entry supposed to be a joke entry?? O-o Huhh.. oh, was that question rhetorical?
You’re kissing goodbye to a lot of readers Dan; I’m only with you on two and six. There was also a Time issue a few weeks back with a picture of Reagen shedding a tear; Republicans have dug their own grave just as much as Democrats have. Democrats just can’t stand for anything these days, and Republicans are just purging attorneys that serve them, it’s not like as if the nation is watching all of the normal corruption take place anyway, so it’s not that easy to like a renegade president in the middle of all the events. If he stands for a tough stance on immigration as he says he does, then he should pardon the two border patrol officers who shot the drug smuggler while defending our border. Search up on Youtube Mad TV’s iRack video. After seeing the satirical humor, it shows something.
There’s no civility to the web as long as everyone has access to a computer. Never.
a little tongue in cheek eh?…LOL..Hey but I do agree with the profile pic thing. That’s a real pet peeve I think. I mean posting all kinds of comments and blogs about people without attaching your name or face is a bit disingenuous if not somewhat cowardly.
As for me, I practice what I preach. This profile pic is me and my name is Adam Bourque “Hunger4God”…google me sometime
Well, if you only pay attention to #1 then I can post!
But other than that, yeah, no. Bye.
:]
I think it is a good idea.. but are you really serious.. I like to use tags I make in my profile pic.. So you would be counting me out too..
Blessings,
Kim
Hahahaha. Like you could stop us.
Re three and four, on atheists and their possible corrupting effect on Christians: have you ever considered the possible corrupting effect of Christians on atheists? Or that of Christians on other Christians?
What if I am too young to vote?
I’m pretty sure it’s too late to bring civility anywhere, Dan.
it’s unneeded. why give structure to something that is incredible because of its sheer lack of structure?

Me gusta.
It’s too late to bring civility back to civilization, let alone the web. But I like the play on words for the last post. Okay gentlemen, we’re going to have a war, but let’s be civil about it.
I especially like the potty mouth one.
And this is my actual profile pic. I’m the one in orange.
Your blog would be so boring with those rules!
Is this for real? What if one was a young, agnostic child who is afraid of reveal his or her self’s picture for privacy issues? >’( Tell me it isn’t true!
#4 seems a little fishy. Once again, are you pulling our legs?
I’m sorry, was I being sarcastic. If I was, I’m really sorry that I was sarcastic.
I know you’re Dan the Theologian, but you need a real pic too, but I guess it goes by one’s own definition of “real.”
And this is how you tell if Dan’s post is bogus. Look at #5. There is no such thing as an esteemed gentleman from Texas.
Sorry, that was sarcasm again. I’ll go home now.
I hope those rules were a joke.
I really hope the one about G.W. Bush was a joke.
Dan,
I enjoyed reading your page…
But if you vote republican…
I can not read your blogs any longer.
“Of course it’s not too fucking late,” says the non-republican athiest. “Oh, and I think that one guy sucks.”
-New Kid
yey utopian blogging! out with anyone who might provide some silly controversy!
also, I see you’ve taken to the new Xanga theme thing quite well. I love what you’ve done… everything has a place and a place for everything =)
well, I’ve already messed up one, because I’m actually a ten year old boy from texas with identity issues. I’ve messed up two, because I’m fairly certain I’ve cursed on here before. Three… well, if I was ‘bible believing christian’ I’d be eating pork and not observing passover. Four.. how could I’ve voted for the man?! I was two! Five: Oh please, you want me to be positive, stop posting about polar bears that people want to kill and global warming, then I’ll be as peppy as a puppy that can’t control itself. Six: well… just read all of the above.
I almost thought you wear serious there for a second. You scared the heck out of me, Dan!
were*
Dan, add a seventh: “No more comments declaring FIRST!” I’m for starting a new trend: “MOST!”
DICKS
I really do look a little like an emu…really.

Hahahahaha.
Ha, you’re kidding.
What if our pictures are the worst representation of who we are?
haha nice way to alienate people!
sounds good to me. (I actually did vote for Bush, and am sad about that now; however, he was the best choice). It should at least be a rule to act civil and have decency. Some people abuse freedom of speech
Oh my…
Guess I just don’t make the cut…
Yes it is too late. I don’t take some of your requirements seriously cause they are too close-minded. You’re the king of sarcasm btw
I guess i’ve just been ousted! lol.
its great that you say you must have a real pic of yourself when you are so reluctant to use your actual pic yourself.
Can you put something up there about spelling and correct grammar?
What kind of rules are those?!
So no children smart enough to mask their identity from online preditors are welcome? Or those of other religous beliefs? And we have to vote a certain way? So you want robots only? Dare you say that having an original thought is bad….
Do you need to do all six, or is there a minimum number? I mean, you can graduate from college with a 70%…
Enforced civility is the bell that sounds the death knoll of free speech. Good joke though, and by the way I’m the youngest one in my picture.
As to the correct grammar thing, I was taught to respect my elders, so I do my best not to correct my grammar (or grandpa either for that matter)
LOL Dan. You crack me up.
And LOL lightnindan!.
Hahaha.
yes, and i love how you said those things as a joke, but im sure you wish you could enforce a few of them, haha mostly im guessing #2,
lol
Fuck you! There is no God, it’s a lie created by non-liberals! George Bush, yeah, I’ve vote for him when scorpions beat me to death with grasshoppers.
Oh. Ooops.
Man, I’m fucked.
guess you’d lose me then Dan! hehe as has already been said most everyone would be out for one reason or another!
Hysterical.
“Civility.” Pshhhh…. no such thing!
I’ll post my real picture when Dan posts his!
I don’t post pictures of myself because I’m Not allowed to.

p.s. gone are the bunnies/jesus coffee spill image..
but instead, maybe i’m looking too hard but,
is that a naked guy on the newspaper on the bottom right?
or is he wearing pants?

I don’t think it is too late. Look at the efforts we have made to stop road rage, surely something can be done. I am actually not sure if road rage has been reduced but I think because I am more aware about it being a problem I am more careful with the way I express myself on the road.
Lol… you’re so funny
Ha!!! I do think that freedom of speech can be abused and I think that people need to be more respectful of others views and beliefs…even if they don’t agree…debate and differences are what adds spice to the world…but bashing and disrespect is crossing a line…
I fucking hate that complete dipshit Bush. What an r-tard. Shit, son. As if that motherfucker is smart. Oh, thank you Mr. Bush for all your nice work, you’ve done such a great job! Almost as good as Jesus! Jesus! What a bunch of bologna! Religion can suck my balls.
I was totally kidding, by the way.
ahahhahahahaha
I guess I’m still in!
And it’s even funnier because you just banned yourself from your own xanga.
[Referencing the first rule.]
are you serious?! =(
far too late.
This is me in the picture, really. And yeah, spelling should be at the top of the list.
Hmm…do I really have to leave my best friend Sarcasm out of this? *sniff* Oh, the humanity!
Muhahahaha
Let me know how that works out for you……
Whatever! It’s too late.
Too bad I’m not gonna follow it. ;D
You’d think you’d want more variety in your commenters..
You BITCH!
*is violating all but one of those >3>*
*is violating all but one of those >3>*
You have got to be kidding me
Bye!
I break every single one of those rules.
Where’s your face then huh??
Can we also ban ridiculous internet spelling and grammar?
I’m no academic but it really really gets on my nerves!
Jamie x
I like your rules but can we have a revision I couldnt vote for bush Im not 18
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold it.
Being civil means you have to be a Christian?? That’s the stupidest shit I’ve ever heard.
No sarcasm lol You love the sarcastic comments you opicked your favorite commentors and that is what they all had in common. Yes I do remember things
I am not old enough to have voted for GW twice. Only once. I helped him win in Iowa!
I do agree that a lot of people basically have no internet manners. Of course, a lot of people have no manners in real life either.
rofl.
Dangit, there goes the neighborhood.
i wonder how many people you would have left in your audience if those rules were enforced!
That’s really funny, Dan…
Wow. I thought you were serious at first….
…I was about to find someone’s elses picture off the internet to use as my profile pic….Whew (j/k).
DOES THIS MEAN YOU ARE GOING TO START POSTING YOUR PHOTO??
There are many very valid reasons for a woman to not post a photo. (Too pretty, too ugly, too thin, too fat, too young, too old, too famous and recognizable) We often color our responses to people by how they look or who they are. We’ve seen this in peoples responses to questions about such issues on the blog. Without the photo you force people to accept you for your thoughts and ideas, who you really are, instead of reacting to a photo.
Then there is also the stalker, obsessive sicko, issue. If you’ve ever once been a victim you won’t make the same mistake twice. I don’t think this is quite the same degree of problem for men that it is for women, but it can still be an issue.
Too late
lol
I am a Bible Believing Christian, but trying to make Athiests leave your blog and not allow them to comment I am sorta against. Yeah, Athiests shouldn’t just come on here to bash, but if you make Christian blogs and everything you can plant a seed in their mind. ;DD But yeah, basically I agree with alot of things you said.
Ha – you are a funny man.
Kidding aside, I think it’s not the worst idea to bring civility to the Web. Some of the vitriol can be terrifying and demoralizing. It’s pretty shocking the sexist, racist, mean spirited, sometimes dangerous things that get said online. I don’t think it stifles expression to have a few conduct guidelines. I think it might even help expression along, then people can say things without fear of being attacked.
To answer your question it might be a bit late but we can try.
That;s not civility, Dan, that’s totalitarianism. And quite closed-minded at that.
But I imagine you’re joking, mostly, so there.
i can keep with every one of those rules except for the pic and voting. I’m only 13 so i can’t vote, and i don’t feel comfortable leaving my pic on the web
I’d say who we voted for goes a little too far. Also, the foundation of this country is free speech, or at least everyone should get some sort of say (as long as they are civil and kind to one another.) Even Jesus sat down to eat with sinners, and probably even heard what they had to say!!!! And I like my monkey as my profile pic, he’s cute!!! So there!!! If you want to see who I am, all you have to do is come to my site and click on photos.
I do however, think that people shouldn’t spout about wanting respect from someone when they’re not giving any themselves. All the childish bashing back and forth bites.
ha, ha and ha
I fit the whole criteria of yours
but yeah, it does seem impractical to come up with a code of conduct now after all that’s happened, unless there’s a way of blocking it all out now… and then so much for “freedom of speech” as well… I wish I could establish those very rules on my Xanga, but then I would lose 2/3rds of my subscribers (and whom are friends in real life) because the majority are LIBERALS, and who am I to block them out for perhaps maybe they’ll read something of mine and be INSPIRED?
I am your loyal servant.
wow, those rules would limit alost everyone at one time or another.
I would just tell people who are mean or cruel not too post. I dont mind athiest postingas long as they understand this is a christian disicussion.. i think they may have some point of view like the rest of us. no sarcasm.. thats crazy… maybe no meanm sarcasm – but everyone likes a good laugh and some sarcasm.. dont they???
The profile pic thing is usally so peple cannot be stalked, not so they can hide behind their words… at least as far as i know. But i could definitly live without the foul language, though i havent sene much in here.
just some thoughts,
Daniel (doubledb)
Haha that’s good stuff maynard. I’m afraid I will have to bow out, however, due to the fact that I was only able to vote for G.W. once on account of my age.
well, it was nice knowing ya. I think I break all the rules except for number 1.
Good luck to those trying to police the Internet, especially when it comes to something so small time as uncivil commenting.
I can’t believe some people are actually taking this seriously. O_o;;
And yeah, I think I break about half those rules. =P
this is a bold move man.
Fun is over I guess.
I broke all the rules so I am normal.
Most of those are a good idea, but I think civility will always diminish when people post things that raise strong feelings (religious discussion, politics, etc). It may seem too late for the Internet as a whole, but each of us should make our own decision about web-civility and adhere to it.
i wonder how many ppl will be lost?
This is too funny!
haha good, b/c I enjoy your blog.
haha good, b/c I enjoy your blog.
I’m all for etiquette.
Especially if people are expected to follow the rules of effective argument styles.
But do you honestly mean to indicate you don’t want non-Christians and non-Bush supports posting?
If you declare explicitly that you are not joking then I’ll get the message. But it seems you could also be indicating sarcasm about the initiation of an internet code of etiquette.
But if different ideas are considered completly repugnant to you it makes me deeply doubt your interest in searching for truth.
I’m an atheist and always invite beleivers from all faiths to politely debate with me.
There is no other way for me to learn more about how to combat ideological injustices in the world, or find the reasons to change my mind on issues; than to listen to what the opposition has to say.
-Alexander the Zounderkite
It’s not too late but isn’t the point of having an open disscusion is that everyone is welcome? If you’re going to have rules like these then everything is just going to be one sided. I disagree with rules #3-6. It’s almost like you’re saying “we don’t want your kind here.”
Um, how about if I’m a sarcastic Bible believing Christian who doesn’t like Bush and looks like a moose?
Sure, if by civility you mean complete and absolute control over who reads your site.
Yep, you just lost one more “naive” reader. Have fun not being in the top anything anymore!
Ok, here’s a real picture
I do hope you are kidding, otherwise I just lost all respect for you.
Hmm, regarding the George W. Bush rule.
I’m too young to vote, and I’m kind of conservative on my views of politics. And confused. =/
I’m all for your rules, Dan. I like your posts, and whenever I’m online, I try to comment.
Hey Dan,
I’m not atheist, I actually have grown up in church all my life, but one of your codes is you must be Christian to post on here? I disagree, I think as a reader of your comments I would like to read comments by some that are not christian as well. I want them to be respectful and courteous, but I think we should extend an ear to those who don’t believe as well. wwjd? haha. It’s your site, and I meet all the req’s so I’m ok with it.. here I am to post a comment..
-jsn
wait….dan….are you serious!?
hmm….funny
though I wish the cursing rule would really stick – it is always a shock to my system to see cursing
well…that’s kind of nice, except that I use sarcasm a lot! LOL And…I can’t vote yet. So does that kick me off?
You know what…my problem would be with #4. My job requires that I do not adhere to or prefer a political party (or not disclose my preferences). If those were your rules and I was (or I voted) democrat – I’d be gone, OR if I was a republican and posted on your site, then I would be implying that I am (or I voted) republican. Either way, I wouldn’t want to risk my job because of a silly website.
The six commandents of Xanga eh?
I’m sorry so many do not wish to follow your proposed rules. They ARE reasonable (at least the others; not so sure about the comment about needing to be a voting republican: you will lose the younger crowd who could not vote, and the democrats who read you for enlightenment. too bad). These rules would help, but not solve the problems of the world, and particularly your desire to dialogue.
i think a lot of people missed the last part …
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Dan, are you trying to kick me off your site?
OK, then here’s what I really look like.
I don’t completely agree with #4. I’m underage and I can’t vote yet.
If those were your terms then I couldn’t comment.
hehe dan ..thats discrimination!!!
no athiest???
only republicans??
and sarcasm…dude whatever
im still gonna comment fucker lol
someone has been smoking something xP
i’m not sure whether to call u a b**** or an as*h**e x)
i think i just broke half ur rules :O
well civility is one thing. say a person has to be a certain religion or has had to vote a certain way is kinda segregating and thats a whole different issue. i think different people have different ideas of where civility starts and ends. i’m fine with saying you can’t go and say you a swear word over and over to the point where no one cares but if someone says you’re not being civil because you have a different opinion well then you’re being a closed minded fool and should be asking questions if you only want one certain particular answer.
funny
hmm, im an atheist and a capitalist liberal, so basically im not allowed to leave comments, thats upsetting and no, thats not sarcasm, why must i be persecuted for my beliefs!!!
well, shucky darn and rowrbazzle!
ur xanga ur rules huh … but republican *winces* i think we should all be allowed to make up a code of conduct for our xanga and have people agree to them before enter… that’ll show them !
are u for real? i always thought of this as kind of an open site. but now there arnt any athists alowed? well thats stupid sorry. now im not an athist, im a christian. but seeing their cmts is half the fun. plus u have to be republican? and no currsing or sarcasm? please tell me u are joking.
what if you’re not old enough to vote haha
Lmao! I thought you were serious until I got to number four.. I was thinking, but this isn’t fair and this isn’t fair either.. hahah.
Bringing civility to the internet is like trying to stuff a dead body in an altoids tin. It’s just not going to happen.
Well, I can’t vote Republican because I can’t vote yet, but I guess I can still stay.
Well, those rules would pretty much eliminate anything interesting ever being discussed on this site. If you eliminate atheists; you eliminate intelligence. LO F’ing L
Just the thought of how many Atheists there are in this world are enough to make me scream.
To most parts of it, it may be too late. But, as for individual posts, and sites, well, it could easily be done. http://www.therebelution.com has a forum section to it, and their rules are very strict for people who post, and for those who even read the forums. The civility there is incredible, and it is all done by teens. – JN.14:27 Rom.5:8
wow those terms are very very against what I firmly believe, and I frankly think they are stupid.
I’m very sorry for my identity masking picture.
I will change it as soon as possible.
No sweat! I’ll pass with flying color!
haha…internet civility? I think that would be like trying to make all the politicians in America honest. It simply can’t be done, although it would be a huge improvement if it was.
I thought — is this for real? What if you’ve voted for GWB 3 times and are still not a loyal Republian?
And what would loyal whatever have to do with discussing theology? But at least you get my picture.
At least you think it’s mine. Only my hairdresser knows for sure, and I don’t have a hairdresser.
One final thought: “No negativity” is a very negative rule.
interesting. please check out this site.
Aww, dude. I just joined. That’s not fair…I guess I got the wrong impression of what this blog is for. :/
oh sorry, some of us may not pass those rules because this site is made up of many people. howeverrr, i think all of your posts are so interesting you would be a helpful contributer. thanks for your time! love your site!
Well, I think I failed about 4 of those rules…That’s too bad, eh?
… Oh Dan, you’re so funny. Civility. Imagine such a thing.
I find it quite hilarious how many people don’t get by the last rule how none of them actually apply. Danny boy may be a conservative, but he certainly maintains his sense of humor!
Are you serious?
You forgot one… No comments with numerical references such as “first,” “second,” “third,” or whatsoever
So, Dan, where’s your actual profile pic?
The internet is the only place where we can still speak without having to worry (as much)…no one should try and bring ‘civility’ to it, that is only the beginning of a long chain of events that will limit our internet lives as much as our real lives

The Rebelution is a great site!
oh dear, Dan. you’re silly.
At first, I thought you were being serious…who knows, maybe you are, but still
I think that 3 – 6 are a tad silly =/ Not allowing anything but Christian beliefs is technically being prejudice… #4 is just another form of prejudice (against democrats and the “other” group)… 5 is yet again being silly, because some people can’t help but get worked up and passionate about some of their beliefs… 6 is somewhat understandable, because some people (like myself) are so sarcastic at times that you wouldnt tell unless you were looking at them in the eyes…
You see, I wouldn’t mind posting a picture of myself as long as it could be an altered one (as so I’m not giving out a “look for me in real life kthanxbye =D” poster), and cussing isn’t nessicary in normal conversations
*sighs* Guess I can’t comment anymore….I’m just going to reply this to some rules you put up
#1~ Some people like to conceal their identity because of privacy…
#4~What about the people who are too young to vote?
I think it IS too late, since, from reading a few comments people have posted on xanga. Including me! Also, some people would just rebel to your rules if you put them up, like the prohibition.
i failed # 3 & 4
