  • The Evils of Pokemon

I received a message in my message box from Red_days_upon_us about an article that discussed the problems with Pokemon cards.

The concern in the article was that Pokemon was leading children down the wrong path.  Let me print a part of the article concerning a parent about Pokemon cards:

“It concerns parents even more. “Recently, my children were given a set of Pokemon cards,” said DiAnna Brannan, a Seattle mom. “They are very popular with the children at our church and elsewhere. I was instantly suspicious but couldn’t discern the problem. We have since been told that they are stepping stones to the ‘Magic cards’ that have been popular for the last few years, which we do not allow.”  Here is the link:  Link

My youngest child actually attended a childcare center that had banned Pokemon cards.

Are Pokemon cards a stepping stone to the use of other magic cards?

  • HA. i had sailor moon cards as a kid.

  • i was too old for pokemon when it came out.

  • No, but bad parenting skills are

  • I never understood the whole Pokemon craze…I was too old for them. My nephew used to love them and he’s not into any other “magic” cards….

  • Pokemon lead to Magic and then to full on D&D nerd-hood.

  • Yes, and then to marijuana, and then crack, and laciviousness and all sorts of moral bankruptcy.

  • i don’t know much about them and I don’t let the kids watch it on TV. Mostly because I think it’s dumb…

  • its a card game… people need to lighten up.

  • I dont know  and my kids growing up never wanted pokemon anything.

  • You know how it is. One day, you’re collecting japanese crap, the next you’re sacrificing the neighbor’s three year old to the dark god Baphomet. We’ve all been there.

That’s why there’s Jesus Rehab! Get That Sin Begone With Christ-Power Therapy!

    Or, you know.

You could stop being such a fucking twonk.

  • It’s just a card game. Magic is the name of another card game, not necessarily “magic” cards. Who cares? If it’s not a card game, it’s a video game, or a TV show, or whatever. Let kids be freaking kids. OMG people lighten up.

  • Wow. This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.

Are Christians really that concerned that their kids are going to be heaved away from their religion just by playing a card game? Just remember, the more you try to keep something out of a child’s life, the more that child is going to want to rebel against you to find out what you’re keeping from them.

  • Ahaha, I love these kind of parents.

Just like how the Harry Potter books are going to cause your child to immediately take up witchcraft.

  • a quick message to the Cristian right:

    You are all douchebags!

i know, not mature, but come on…its a fricken card game!

if you cant teatch your kids to know the difference between games and reality then should you be allowed to raise kids???

  • No. Magic the Gathering is just a silly card game. I really do not understand why people get worked up over stuff like this. Maybe because people think magic is evil. I personally don’t believe that. MTG and other games of that nature, DnD for example, shouldn’t be taken seriously. Playing card games won’t hurt you. It might make you a little nerdy, but that’s not a bad thing. At least they won’t be out selling their bodies and doing drugs.

  • Both of my boys went thru the craze, have grown out of it, and no satanic rituals happening.

  • Um…what “magic” cards? Sounds like paranoid bull crikey to me.

  • Yes – Pokemon is the Devil. So is Barbie, Beanie Babies and Harry Potter. Kids should only be allowed to read the Bible and play with dirt.

  • As Drakonskyr pointed out with so much pinned up rage, one thing does not necessarily lead to another.

  • ^– Magic the Gathering cards.

  • Yes – Pokemon is the Devil. So is Barbie, Beanie Babies and Harry Potter. Kids should only be allowed to read the Bible and play with dirt.

    Heh. I second that.

  • How does magic cards and Pokemon become such an attack on Christianity???

  • Ah, I checked the article and see the Christian link. It must be then that all Christians are retarded

  • You know how it is. One day, you’re collecting japanese crap, the next you’re sacrificing the neighbor’s three year old to the dark god Baphomet. We’ve all been there. Posted 4/10/2007 12:21 PM by Drakonskyr

    Oh my god…
    Oh my god…
    Oh my god…
    Ribs… hurt…

  • Pokemon … I thought that was “so yesterday”

  • Oh…My…God, yet more ridiculousness to drip like a malignant slime from the hysterical Christians of the United States. But then, since the church there has its base partly in that founded by the Puritans who escaped Europe (still happily frivolous after all these years) I suppose that’s no surprise, really.

Cards like that have been banned by schools here in the UK, but because of squabbling and stealing not because of anything more ‘fundamental.’

  • Oh, please.

  • Haha, you gotta be stupid to believe a card game is evil.

  • No.

That’s like saying Harry Potter is evil. . .

of course if Harry Potter is evil so is “The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe” and “Lord of the Rings”.

The evil is when you can’t use imagination/fantasy. . .

when you say make-believe stuff is bad. . .

  • come ON. this topic is so five years ago. lol. pokemon cards were big when -I- was a kid.

  • Sigh…Whatever happened to the days of Matchbox Cars, Legos, and G.I. Joes?

  • The article mentioned evolution a couple of times.  . .not wonder Christians are against Pokemon. . .lol

  • hahaha
if they mean Magic cards as in “Magic: The Gathering” then probably yes. But I have to say Magic is a great game to play. I happen to have some in my dorm room on the off chance that anyone wants to play my ultimate red deck from like 6 years ago : )
these things are harmless, as harmless as collecting pennies or state quarters. Its just extra insentive because theres a really fun game that these collectables have. Parents are just stupid sometimes.

  • What the eff ever.  Are musicians putting satanic messages in music if played backwards still too?

  • If you turn the P upside down and take away the O and the K, it spells DEMON!

Those people are such retards. What can a card game do to you?

  • Pokemon, then Yugioh. That’s the big one to worry about.

  • Exactly. See, Pokemon => Magic => Child sacrifice and demon worship.

  • no! gimme a break!! do christians always have to lambaste everything? (pokemón, harry potter)

hahaha we ALWAYS talk in absolutes, that way you NEVER have to misunderstand what we’re saying. We dumb Christians :) Dude you rock!

  • haha. sure they lead to the use of other cards…yugioh, digimon, magic, whatever…but it’s just a stupid card game that doesn’t mean anything…kids don’t go around worshipping pikachu for goodness sakes.

  • Yes. Just like high school physics is a stepping stone to detonating a atomic weapon.

There’s a few more steps in between that wise parenting should be able to handle in both cases – if Magic cards are even that much of a concern.

fwiw, I’ve seen pokemon cards banned, but it was because they were a distraction and cause of conflict in school. Not because of any connection to other games.

Can’t help but think some of these parents are a little loony.

  • It seems that many Christians have to be “against” something…and anything they don’t understand becomes evil…Scriptures show that Christ was “for” many things…but seemed to be “against” those who were “against” things…like the Pharisees.

    No…they are NOT evil.

  • For all of those who look at all of the toys of the past and wonder why we cannot have that same sort of joy we had then…

Well, let’s consider the fact that Barbies empossed a sexsist ideal of women on young girls, GI Joes was rooted in the idea of false patriotism and bloodshed through war, and bebe guns shot people’s eyes out (lol). No toy or game has ever pleased every parent. But they also turned out some pretty normal children (i.e. our adult generation now). We really need to stop over protecting our children. Give them the freedom to be children and to explore “imgainary worlds” even if they seem a bit crazy to you.

I loved the teenage mutant nija turtles when i was younger… that didnt mean i grew up to become a ninja with an obsession for shell-bound creatures.

  • I didn’t bother to read all of your other comments, but, “Magic cards” is a reference to the game “Magic: the Gathering” which is a trading card game based around Novels written by several authors.

But, i am sure you knew that and will probably do something else later.

  • Pokemon leads to Magic cards and then before you know it, you’re GAY.

  • If people would just listen to the “heart of the cards” then all this nonsense would go away.

Honestly, it’s a card game. Small bits of paper with pictures on them. Well, I suppose they do give paper cuts…

  • I’d have to say that no, they’re not.  I could see them being banned if kids were fighting over them or if they were a disctraction though. When I was in school we really weren’t supposed to bring any “toys” from home, and I think this would fall into that category.  My little cousins are obsessed with Pokemon and I don’t see the difference between that and any other cartoon character or kids TV show.

  • NO. i hate parents that shelter their kids like that. the sick thing is, they do grow up and when they grow their going to do magic cards no matter what you say. Their going to get knocked up despite what you think. my mom would be right next to that lady nodding her head and praying.
religion is sposed 2 enlighten you, not shelter you.

  • If people would just listen to the “heart of the cards” then all this nonsense would go away.

Honestly, it’s a card game. Small bits of paper with pictures on them. Well, I suppose they do give paper cuts…

  • “He told her that during recess on the playground the children would “summon” the forces on the cards they collect by raising sticks into the air and saying, “‘Spirits enter me.’ They call it ‘being possessed.’” 5

those kids just need to be beaten more. and i mean physically.  maybe with a belt.

  • Pokemon are EVIL ! EVIL!!! EVIL!!!!!

Just like playing cards and tea and those Sear’s magazines that show women in their underwear. It’s the work of the Devil!
And I agree with SaintVi, Barbie is evil. She’s a little tramp.

  • “Yes – Pokemon is the Devil. So is Barbie, Beanie Babies and Harry Potter. Kids should only be allowed to read the Bible and play with dirt. Posted 4/10/2007 12:30 PM by saintvi

    HAHA

I think it’s just a lot of parental hype & fears & nonsense.  Honestly, I think as long as they’re not playing video games, but *shocking* actually have to use thier imaginations a bit to play the game, then go for it!

  • Pokemon is a stepping stone to being brain dead.

  • No, they aren’t. My God, seriously…Those parents are like that one woman who tried to get Harry Potter banned from the school library. IDIOT.

  • MAGIC CARDS? wth are those? you mean the old school stuff with the mana and tapping stuff? the only reason they would ban them (that sounds reasonable) is like theft, making the child feel bad, obsession, undercover for gambling, etc. But attack on Christianity? o.0 Come on! it’s a cartoon! bugs bunny never attacked Religion. maybe culture at a time. but that was it. all in good humor! but Pokemon? its little animals with abilities and people taming them.

  • Both fads are pretty much out of fads; somebody is pretty slow.

And, is this the same kind of person who would freak out from looking at Harry Potter books?

  • This ‘problem’ is #98 on the list of important questions, right behind “are we eating too much garlic as a people?”

  • “Yes – Pokemon is the Devil. So is Barbie, Beanie Babies and Harry Potter. Kids should only be allowed to read the Bible and play with dirt. Posted 4/10/2007 12:30 PM by saintvi”

Rules are made to be broken. The more you shelter your child, the more radical and imaginative s/he becomes. The best you can do is teach them, not censor them. Moderation’s the key.

amen to tallon5. i’ve never agreed with something so fully in such a long time; that applies perfectly to me.

  • Oh COME ON…first off- what is the matter with a GAME about magical critters and such? People take things way too seriously.

And no, Pokémon does not make you suddenly demonic. *rolls eyes*

  • I don’t know. I do know that stepping stones are all relative it is possible that Xanga could be a stepping stone in one person’s life to using narcotics.

  • This is such a crock of bullcrap…

  • Wow, to me this is old news.

Anything can become satanic if you let it.

  • I will need to do further study on Pokeman before I make a decision on this one. I do, however, think parents should investigate the games their children play and make an informed decision. So many parents say the same thing as your readers, “It’s just a simple card game.” Do they really know that or are they just assuming? Maybe it is, I don’t know. Too many parents assume.

  • No, they are hardly different than baseball cards. Are those evil, too??? HA

  • If Pokèmon is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. :P

  • In all areas of society there are radicals who claim to be a part of some group and in some cases the group claims the radical psychos and everyone in the group gets a bad name. This happens in politics all the time it happens in religion, we see it everyday. These radical “Christians” are not voicing the views of Christians that I know but have the stranglehold on media publicity.

  • I don’t think evil is as easy to identify as we sometimes think.

Kids having sex at 14. Kids shooting students at their highschool. Kids on drugs. Kids cutting, starving themselves, beating each other up, killing themselves..

That’s the problem. That’s evil. Not pokemon cards.

  • This ‘problem’ is #98 on the list of important questions, right behind “are we eating too much garlic as a people?”

    Well said.

  • I highly doubt it.

I mean, Yu-gio (spelling please.) cards were HUGE when I was in middle school, and my father at first wouldnt let me get them (Highly religous guy).
Of course after a while he realized it was idiotic to think I’d turn to some saten child while playing with little peices of paper.

  • Nope. I had Pokemon cards when I was younger and never got Magic cards or any other type for that matter.

  • These radical “Christians” are not voicing the views of Christians that I know but have the stranglehold on media publicity.
Posted 4/10/2007 1:42 PM by mrcolorful

That’s true. Radical Christians are the ones who are selling everything they own and giving it to the poor because they read Mark 10:21. Radical Christians are the ones who are talking about Jesus at work and school when they know they can be fired or expelled for it because they read Matthew 28:19-20. Radical Christians are the ones who stop when people are pulled over on the side of the road, not just to check and see if everything is okay but to hopefully get a chance to be a witness for Christ because of the same verses. Radical Christians are the ones who are putting themselves after everyone they come into contact with, whether they like them or not because they read Matthew 23:12.

The people writing this article are radical, but they’re not radical Christians.

  • yes, i could possibly lead to Magic: The Gathering and even higher levels of geekdom. But, seriously not necessarily to “evil” or satanic practices. I’m a pastor and I play Magic. Most of the time evil is as you make it.

  • It’s a stepping stone from one stupid to another.

“We have since been told that they are stepping stones to the ‘Magic cards’ that have been popular for the last few years, which we do not allow.”

So who the hell told them they were stepping stones? The preacher? In that case, I’m not surprised that they didn’t question it.

  • Holy shiza. People need to chill.

Pokemon cards are a stepping stone to other card games including but not limited to Magic The Gathering.  Which is a specific card game not nearly as vague a term as it is being portrayed as.

They are no more dangerous than normal playing cards maybe even less so since there is no betting involved.

Its all just make believe and the church needs to realize that as long as you teach you kids the difference between real and pretend everything is going to be ok.

    That is all

  • You know how it is. One day, you’re collecting japanese crap, the next you’re sacrificing the neighbor’s three year old to the dark god Baphomet. We’ve all been there. Posted 4/10/2007 12:21 PM by Drakonskyr

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAS!!!
    that just made my day.

  • Actually, it’s a stepping stone to being that creepy, unshowered Worlds of Warcraft kid in highschool. That’s the real evil….

  • The cards are a stepping stone to another game called “Magic”, not tarot cards.

  • No. I played pokemon but never played Magic.

  • Magic cards.  Good times.

  • Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering are not evil.

    Gotta catch ‘em all!

  • The Magic cards that are being reffered to are an actual game, just like pokemon. not like crazy physco stuff.

  • on a much more serious note, i think sometimes people just use games and society’s media as an excuse for the result of bad parenting.

i mean, it all boils down to our foundations no? it has always been firmly believed in my family at least, if your roots are strong then nothing can sway you.

if anything, i think the biggest problems christians have today is the fact that they’ve limited themselves so far away from the world that they no longer know how to associate or approach non-christians. they’re too into their own little bubble and shun whoever dares to challenge them.

  • …Kids that are into Pokemon are -so- out of it. They went out in like 2001 or something. It’s not even like…cool anymore.

Or maybe for once Wisconsin is ahead of the times.

This is just like every other fad –No, it isn’t harming your kids damn it. Get the heall over it, and just let them have at it. Unless it becomes an unhealthy obsession of constantly spending money on cards and memorablia, and trading…don’t worry about it and let your kids just be kids. Jeez.

Parents can be sooooo over-protective. Gah!

  • No. And there’s nothing wrong with Magic: The Gathering! I’ve only played once or twice, but it definitely takes skill.

  • ugh. don’t you people know that the only acceptable toys for a child is a good hoop and stick? And maybe a biblical doll or two? Anything else may encourage them to develope their own personalities and interests and good christians certainly can’t have that now can they?

I just don’t think God is going to damn everyone to hell for playing with pokemon cards for a few years as a kid.

  • Magic the Gathering? ™

    Or tarot cards?

Either way, it seems silly to me…

  • I am a Christian and I play (casually because I’m in school) Magic The Gathering and I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s a card game. The largest danger to it is if you become obsessed, you spend way too much money. But the Christian market already thought of that, they have an alternative “Redemption” that is just as expensive, but not as entertaining to play. and they have demons, witches, etc. too. if it is ok as a “Christian” game it should be ok as a non-Christian game

  • Actually, it’s a stepping stone to being that creepy, unshowered Worlds of Warcraft kid in highschool. That’s the real evil….

Posted 4/10/2007 2:02 PM by vocedangelo

I take offense to that. It’s entirely possible to play World of Warcraft and still know how to bathe.

The stereotype of smelly/creepy little losers with no friends that play W.o.W. is quite false.

  • I doubt it. but i’m pretty sure they started to be unpopular about 7 years ago.

  • To answer the question…yes. However, Magic is not the path to hell

  • no but its in violation of animal rights.

its a show about dog fighting and cat fighting and turtles fighting dogs.

its about abusing animals and get a reward for doing such…..

  • I played Magic: the Gathering all throughout high school, and I can honestly say that I have never sacrficed any small animals to any dark lords.

It does have a direct impact on the player’s ability to get laid, but the church is against that sort of thing so maybe they should be promoting them, hm?

  • So what if they are?

  • Who cares!!!! Really….people need to just relax about shit like this. It’s not like doing it is going to lead them into hardcore drug abuse or mass cult suicides.

  • They are cards: it’s a game. If your child cannot tell the difference between a game and how things work in the real world then you probably shouldn’t be reading story-books or watching films with him either. He has reality “issues”.

    Cheers,
    m

  • Everything is a stepping stone to something bad if the Parents are not invovled in their children’s life

  • Interesting. I could see how they would be stepping stones for magic cards. But I doubt that the switch-over would be a usual occurance.

  • hmmm i couldn’t find a date on the article but from what i understand, here on the west coast anyway, pokemon is passe.  magic was passe by the time i was in highschool, like pogs were.  pokemon was passe about 3 years ago so…maybe they are just behind the times but i don’t think any of this is contemporary kid culture anymore!  if the parents are unable to impress upon the child that these are games the same way monopoly is a game then maybe parenting was that one skill they can never master…

  • I suppose so, but then again that’s more of an issue of teaching your child the difference between fantasy and reality. I still wouldn’t let my kids have Pokemon cards, just because of the sheer stupidity of it all. Let’s minimize the brain rot, shall we?

  • Why the switch in fonts at end of post? And I was surprised people still watch/play Pokemon. I thought it had died.

Maybe it leads to Magic. In the end, its an individuals decision on what goes against their conscience, and their reasoning. Is it belief in magic, mystical, fantasy, etc, that person has a problem with?

  • I wouldn’t know.  My only association with pokemon is occasionally playing my brothers pokemon gameboy game.

  • What a retarded suggestion!

  • cool that means my 8 and 10 year old are going to have all sorts of cool magical powers then right?:)  I should go tell them that right now and feed the frenzy

Oh please…it is a fad that the kids have fun with (yes there should be rules about them in school to protect kids) but if a parent actually talks to their child and knows what they are doing then there is no need for worry…..people have the worst irrational fears when really they just aren’t properly parenting their children….(heck my brother and his wife won’t let his kids play with those things or read or watch harry potter movies because of all the magic and magic is evil and against gods nature….gimme a break, it’s just kids using their imagination and has nothing to do with teaching them to turn against God….)

  • Its just a fad…what is wrong with some parents? You know what is dumb? …Bratz dolls….

  • WTF?

  • Yes. Pokemon is a gateway drug to growing up to be a giant nerd. Now I just need to be patient and I’ll have new people to play Magic with.

  • they’re just a fad. i played with them in 5th grade, and i was done with them last week, so, just a brief thing.
haha, jk, i was done with them by 6th grade

  • I didn’t even know pokemon cards were still popular. That was around when I was a kid, maybe 10 years ago?
Anyway, both games are completely different. It’s like saying that letting a kid play the Pacman video game will cause him to play violent ones like GTA later on.

  • I’m going to quote Weird Al’s satiric song Don’t Download This Song, which is about pirating music: “Cause you start out stealing songs, then you’re robbing liquor stores, and selling crack and running over schoolkids with your car!” It’s obviously the same principle here – playing with Pokemon cards will lead to kids being devil worshippers! Oh my!

This kind of “slippery slope fallacy” hysteria is the last thing parents need to be concerned about. Try teaching your kids the difference between fantasy and reality and not making stupid things like Pokemon cards into “forbidden fruit.”

  • I think they mean “Magic: The Gathering” cards. They’re not demonic in any way either, just as bad as watching LotR or reading Harry Potter.

  • Depends on the child I think but with the way a child’s imagination can run wild it probably would lead to more stuff like that with most of them

  • anna nicole finally has a baby daddy lmao

  • nothing that can’t be cured by good parenting skills of course

  • oh yeah. and a normal deck of cards leads to them wanting to be a part of a monarchy, obviously.

  • this reminds me, I wish I had someone to play DnD with :( cry cry

  • oh lord i love pokemon.

  • Ugh please, and then lets ban “Harry Potter” books and force the study of the Bible in public schools.

  • Haha.

I had Pokemon and Sailor Moon cards when I was a kid … I never had an interest in other types of cards. If some people want to think that then let them think that. xD My little brother likes watching Pokemon and I’m NOT going to have a heart attack if he gets Pokemon cards.

  • whats wrong with magic cards?

  • Ahaha, I love these kind of parents.

Just like how the Harry Potter books are going to cause your child to immediately take up witchcraft.

^^i agree. people need to pull the stick out of their butts. i’m as christain as the woman who attends church every sunday and i have no fear that pokemon cards, harry potter, or ghosts storys are going to turn the world into a devil worshipping cult.

  • Oh my God. @____@

I remember liking Pokemon when I was little…actually, I still think Pikachu’s kinda cute now.

I don’t see anything wrong with kids playing cards, mmkee? Why is EVERYTHING an attack on something these days?

  • YO! MY DAD’S A BAPTIST PREACHER AND I HAVE COLLECTED POKEMON AND PLAYD D&D AND IM STILL A GOOD KID!!! I HAVE KNOWN PEOPLE WHO PLAY MAGIC THE GATHERING AND THEY ARE ALSO SANE NORMAL PEOPLE… OK THEY ARE GAMING NERDS BUT THATS NOT THE POINT… GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O AND BY THE WAY CHRISTIANS ARE NOT RETARDED!!WE CAN BE COOL!!!!!

  • i dont know and or care

  • It seems that many Christians have to be “against” something…and anything they don’t understand becomes evil…Scriptures show that Christ was “for” many things…but seemed to be “against” those who were “against” things…like the Pharisees.

    No…they are NOT evil.

I have very much noticed this trend of Christians becoming modern day Pharisees. Good comment.

  • There’s trouble! Right here in River City!

Put your dollars in the offering plate and help Jesus save our children from eternal damnation.

  • Oh noooo! Not MAGIC CARDS!
    Omgz.

Magic The Gathering is pretty incredible, actually.

  • Kansas has banned pokemon from schools with penalty of suspension or explusion, I’ve read.

  • hahah this is laughable.

yeah pokemon and Magic are evil and contain satantic rituals…. yeah sure…

    retards

  • no way, this is a pretty extreme thought.. along with how harry potter will lead people to practice witchcraft and magic.

  • No one even plays Pokemon anymore, and if they do theyre already sketchy, so I don’t know what any solution is.

  • whats wrong with magic cards?

Not to insult my own addiction, but you might as well say, “What’s wrong with Meth?” Those expensive little bastards can take over your life if left unattended.

  • I take offense to that. It’s entirely possible to play World of Warcraft and still know how to bathe.

Heh unless 8 million people in the U.S who are gamers don’t bathe or shower.  Go Druids ;)   Oh and I showered this morning btw… ;P

  • I have no problem with the steps they say to take, if anyone read to the bottom of the article.  I do have a problem with the stupid things they say about “goverment schools are teaching pagan practices” and crap.  It discredits their argument to state such obvious falsehoods as fact.

But hey, if parents are concerned, they should do things like that.  They should tell their kids what they think the stuff means.

In short, do I personally believe Pokemon cards relate to the occult?  No.  But if parents do, the steps they say to take are reasonable.

  • well i personally went from pokemon cards to digimon cards to yugioh cards when i was younger xD pokemon cards are equilvalent to “gateway drugs.”

  • Yes, and, what the hell is wrong with magic cards? Are there parents out there that are actually that pathetic? ugh.. this country is screwed up even more than i thought.

  • I think your readership has sense on this issue, seeing as none of the commentors thus far said Pokemon was Satanic.

  • What other magic cards?  My son collected Pokemon cards when he was like in 5th grade.  It was a phase.   He’s almost 18 now and will graduate from high school and go to college.  He’s fine.  Pokemon cards are now ignored, and will be put on the garage sale this summer.

  • “Radical Christians are the ones who stop when people are pulled over on the side of the road, not just to check and see if everything is okay but to hopefully get a chance to be a witness for Christ because of the same verses. Radical Christians are the ones who are putting themselves after everyone they come into contact with, whether they like them or not because they read Matthew 23:12.”

That is not a radical Christian–it’s an annoying one.  If someone tries to help me just because they have some kind of agenda, I’m going to tell them they can help someone else.  I’m not a pity case, and I’m not going to accept help from someone just because they have some ulterior motive.  That’s not kindness, that’s just deceit.

  • God, some of my friends were like that, too. “Pokemon is eeevvviiiiillll!!!!”

    And you’re retaaaaaarrrrrrdeeeeddddd!

    I hate stupid people.

  • hardly a question. overanalysis causes intense hysteria that has no logical basis besides those filled with fallacious arguments.

This comment has convinced me to not allow my kids to ever come within 100 feet of pokemon cards.

  • not only is that ridiculous but its also 8 years late

  • There is actually a group of people seeing parallels between Pokemon and the Harry Potter books. Harry Potter is “the devil.” Apparently Pokemon should be now, too.

    Pfffft.

  • It could lead to Magic The Gathering.  They are related games.

Oh noes!  The next thing you know they’ll be doing heroin and burning Bibles.

  • “Radical Christians are the ones who stop when people are pulled over on the side of the road, not just to check and see if everything is okay but to hopefully get a chance to be a witness for Christ because of the same verses. You don’t need to be a Christian to be a nice guy. You should be nice because it’s common sense, not because a book told you to.

  • because i played pokemon i am now involved in countless evil practices. NOT

  • Now, I love this anti-rationality.  Has anyone, anyone read one comment that says that “Yes, I’m a Christian, and these things are evil”?

(And if you respond to this with a comment that says “yes, here’s one” you are an idiot.  What I mean is, do the majority, or even a strong minority agree with this?)

No.  But that doesn’t stop anyone from attacking the position.  Go look up strawman on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawman.  It’s a form of logical fallacy.  If you are attacking this “Christian” position, and unless you are being some kind of wicked sarcastic, that is exactly what you are doing.

  • No way. I dug Pokemon as a kid, and I still dig Pokemon today. I can’t say that I’m into witchcraft or anything else that’s being implied. I follow a religion and behave well.

  • It’s a kids game. The story is fantasy. Let kids use their own imaginations.

  • I work at a YMCA day care…and our boss banned them because it was “stepping out of Christian boundaries”

  • Magic as in Magic The Gathering cards or as in magic tricks? <_< Either way, this is plain ridiculous.

  • Haha are they saying it’s a gateway card? To harder, more intense cards? :P

I love Pokemon, they aren’t evil or corrupting. The kids may become interested in other cards, but these aren’t “magic” cards, the Pokemon have powers and inflict damage on each other but they don’t KILL each other. Don’t be hatin’ on the Pokemansss!

  • “Yes – Pokemon is the Devil. So is Barbie, Beanie Babies and Harry Potter. Kids should only be allowed to read the Bible and play with dirt.
Posted 4/10/2007 12:30 PM by saintvi”

    HAHAHA.

Right. Even though the show Pokemon: Battle Frontier is the direct work of the Devil on Earth … no. Pokemon cards are nothing more than a harmless trading card game.

  • i think, as a joke, Ash shoud disguise a grenade as a pok-e-ball

  • magic the gathering cards have been around since 1993. that’s not a few years…. ask my husband. he’s played it all those years.

and no, he doesn’t worship satan, think he can actually perform any kind of magic, and he has played pokemon… again, no harm done.

those people really irritate the FLIP out of me.

    *Jac*

  • Hardcore Christians will take anything as a sacreligious, witchcraft-practicing threat to our children nowadays. Harry Potter? Why, the characters go to a school of magic, so it’s bad for kids, while Lord of the Rings is perfectly acceptable. Pokemon? They lead children to “magic cards”? Ha.

That’s not to say all Christians are like that. Most Christians, myself included, I should hope, are rather sensible.

  • So, does giving children playing cards mean that they are gonna become addicted to poker?

  • lol… it’s not “magic cards” [like magic beans or a magic wand], but rather a card game called Magic: The Gathering. To be honest, yeah, Pokemon cards probably are a stepping stone to Magic cards… but so what? I remember being ” not allowed” to play Magic when I was in high school, but I was “not allowed” to do a lot of things… including watch movies in a theater… long story.

My point is this: even from a Christian standpoint, what harm can they possibly do? Are they blasphemous? [no] Do they alter the morals of whoever uses them? [no] So they sometimes lead their users to more complicated games, such as Magic: The Gathering… is that game bad, or morally thieving? [no] In fact, I can’t think of any negative aspect of the cards that can’t be solved by proper parenting [teaching your kids how to handle greed, teaching the difference between the real and the imagined, etc...].

I actually used to work at a daycare [a Christian daycare, even] that did indeed ban Pokemon cards. The reason? Not because they were satanic, but rather because some of the kids who were lacking in the proper parenting department would try to steal cards from other kids’ backpacks.

My conclusion: There’s nothing wrong with Pokemon cards. They simply require the same amount of parental guidance that anything else in this world does. Just because something is not understood does not make that something inherantly “bad”.

P.S. – I really hate how most Christian watch-dog groups rant and warn about “this or that new evil that is threatening our kids” without properly researching whatever it is they now want to boycott. If all the information I had on pokemon was what I read on that article, I would probably not let my kids play with them either. Things should be thoroughly understood before a decision is made.

P.P.S. – It’s not that all Christians are retarded, but rather that some retards are Christians.

  • colored cardboard garbage is a stupid waste of money. sure maybe it’ll help your kids socialize and attain a few friends

but then again who needs friends? if you really want to dump some money on your kid get them a PS3 with one controller
that way they will never need to socialize or have friends, that should keep them out of trouble.

  • There are a lot of really subtle things in the article that kind of scared me…
    1. “Parental authority simply doesn’t fit the fast-spreading new views of social equality taught through the media and schools.”
So Pokemon cards teach devil worship and social equality. Wow, they’re even worse than I thought.
    2. “Far more than earthly parents, God wants His children to be content and full of joy.” give up your brian and you’ll be happy.

Pokemon cards are the devil and social equality trying to conquer mindless masses following a brain stealing god. All in the name of being content and joyful. The same god whose son was crucified.

    The hypocrisy astounds me.

  • i don’t think it matters..both are harmless

  • albillar666: If you are going to criticize Christians, I would appreciate it if you please spelled it “Christian”, not “Cristian”. Thank you.

I didn’t even watch Peter Pan or Cinderella when I was a kid because they had magic in them. As a Christian, I believe magic even as a form of entertainment is wrong because the Bible says that all forms of satanic magic are an abomination to God. I have chosen not watch or read Lord of the Rings or Narnia for that reason.

My Bible also says that some things are lawful, but not profitable. I don’t see any profit in Pokemon. There are forms of entertainment that are profitable and don’t begin to cross any borders.

And even to someone who does not claim Christ – Wicca has increased since magic started to be cool, why would you want your kids to be influenced by the kiddie version of Wicca?

  • Excuse me.

    RRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHGHGHHHHHHHHLJJKLJJKLGJKLAJKLSDKJSDLJK;SDKLJ;SDGAKLJSDFKLJADSFKJLAFUCKINGIDIOTS!!!

    …Okaydone.

  • And JusticeandLiberty (hah, what a name for such a limited and limiting point of view…)…

I’m a Pagan. (Note. NOT WICCAN. All Wiccans are Pagans but not all Pagans are Wiccans, comprende? But that’s another rant.)

    But what’s wrong with Wicca?

  • lol to dmv’s comment.  “You know how it is. One day, you’re collecting japanese crap, the next you’re sacrificing the neighbor’s three year old to the dark god Baphomet. We’ve all been there.”  oh man.

i used to collect pokemon cards.  it never led me to other “magic.”  any dark side i may have most certainly was not influenced by pokemon in the slightest.  but i was part of a family that believed they were of evil, and consequently didn’t allow me to collect them.  i did anyway, but i’m just sayin’.  it always pissed me off that people thought they were evil, cuz i was like nine (pulled that number out of thin air) and wouldn’t have associated collecting anything with dark magic.  like a kid could make that connection.  i know they’re smart, but please.  it’s the adults who think they’re helping us that are actually planting ideas in our heads.  or maybe it’s the subtlty of it all that the parents are so worried about… oh forget it.

  • Just like playing records backwards …

  • NOT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE RETARDED.!

so all yall that said that need to take it back..my chruch dosen’t ban the use of pokemon cards..and i personally dont see anything wrong with pokemon cards either..i had when was young and im perfectly fine..so yal need to check yourselfs..thats like me saying all catholics are rapists.ummm no. so thats my view on that..they’re cards and SOME ppl are overprotective and overdramatic…that all

    skitts

  • i think parents are afraid of the unkown.so there fore asume things like pokemon, yug i oh, are “of the devil” kinda reminds of the waterboy, where his mom thought everything was of the devil or made him believe so. if you dont make a big deal about im sure your kids will be fine. my parent let us watch sabrina the teenage witch. and other shows with magic.but to tell you the truth when i was young i didnt go around saying o sabraina is a wiccan and i want to be just like her..it was harmless entertainment that took you out of the real world. so please parents, teachers, whoever, think about it hard. is picachu really gonna get your kid into wicca? its things like these  that turn people off and ruin the name of christiaity….people trying to make a problem out of nothing.

    skitts

  • ah jeez..more of this magic stuff? i mean really..enough with it already. first it was harry potter.. “RAWR WITCHCRAFT DIE DIE DIE!!!” now pokemon? it’s innocent kid stuff. get over yourself..

  • theres a game called magic…which has cards…and would probably not lead to satanic rituals unless you have some mental illness…
man, people need to trust their kids sanity more.

  • Hahahahaha. Wow. I used to love Pokemon. It doesn’t do any harm. :P True, there shouldn’t be links leading to occult websites through Pokemon, but Pokemon itself does no harm, in my opinion. It’s fun. The games rock, too. XD

  • This isn’t neccessarily a stepping stone to magic cards. You just have to teach u’r kids what’s wrong and what’s right. But I generally don’t like Pokemon. I had some bad things about it. But that’s excluding the cards this is all about how where if you play gotta catch em all backwards it’ll say something like i love satan. So yea. creepy. i thought so. And there’s this one kid who hung himself for pokemon in this one state. one again creepy.

  • I can’t believe Christianity can exist in such a bizarre form.Keeping kids from playing cards? Can anyone please shoot down those idiots?

  • Seriously?!?!

Life long Christian, son of a pastor, youth services, mentoring, etc etc.

I love Magic the Gathering (CCG)  It’s fun, requires deep thought into strategy, coordination, mathematical ratio’s blah blah blah.  Very good game for developing critical thinking skills.  Not insidious at all.  Nor, for that matter is D & D despite what some people think.

Might as well compare them to alcohal, tobacco, caffeine, and any other thing that causes harm if you do too much of it.  It’s is bad mouthed because it is located in the lives of some people who get into trouble, not because it causes trouble.

This is an issue that the Christian Community needs to grow up on…

  • Well in highschool my friends played video games, pokemon, magic, and D&D frequently.
They were the few people in school who didn’t do drugs, so I liked them even though my hobbies were, reading religious texts, music, and poetry.

Do pokemon cards lead to magic cards? Not neccesarily. Because pokemon is so much of a simpler game than magic, it’s not as enjoyable to people who don’t want to strain themselves intellectually while they relax.

    -Alexander the Zounderkite

  • I think it’s effing lame that Christians see things like this as evil or what have you. But from a non-religious viewpoint, all collectible trading card games are equally ridiculous. Sure, playing them in elem, middle school is alright to an extent, but I think you’re pushing it when you’re 24 and still playing every Friday night and you’ve spent more money on those stupid freakin cards than you have on your car. Ugh! Sorry for the rant… my ex was one of those dumbass people. I’m still bitter.

  • I don’t see it as being a bad thing even if it did lead to them playing Magic cards. I mean other than the fact that they will become total geeks, but that’s about it.

  • Im fascinated by how fucking paranoid that article is

    Wow– People are nuts

    But some of it does kind of make sense;

No… A parent shouldn’t let their kids play games all day, THATS NOT GOOD, but these “occult” cards are not going to turn your kid against God, which is the articles other main point.. Given those two topics, you can be sure it *IS* going to be totally exaggerated

And another thing, kids shouldn’t be forced into god anyway

when they get older, they’ll just be doing church b/c thats what they’ve been told to do

    don’t they think THEY’RE manipulating??

  • they are taking the pokemon cards way too far. they are called POKEMON cards… not MAGIC CARDS.

  • hilariously ridiculous. ridiculously hilarious.

  • No. Most people who play Magic start with Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh.

I think Pokémon’s safe. Yu-Gi-Oh is really lame and I never got into it much even though I had a decent deck and all.

On occasion, my brother and I still get out our old cards and play.

  • * another note *

My husband has never had a drink of alcohol (he’s almost 24), never done any drug, or done anything like that… He played Pokemon first, and when he got older and more advanced than that game, he started playing Magic the Gathering when it came out. So in a sense, Pokemon *can* be a stepping stone to MTG, but that’s not a bad thing… Nothing wrong with MTG. Of course people have their own views, but my suggestion is that parents actually take the time to LEARN about what their kids want to do instead of banning it and saying it’s not something they should be playing. Parents are just lazy. I am one, so yeah… Parents just don’t want to take the time with their kids, so they’ll find any excuse, anything at all, and that’s really sad! But the funny thing is, all the decent kids played MTG, all the ones that weren’t into drugs and did well in school. Everyone thought they were “weird” and parents didn’t really like them because of how they looked, which is horrible. All the “preppy” kids that went to church and did sports were out getting drunk and high on weekends and those were supposed to be the good kids? Yeah… Parents just need to take a deeper look. My husband now plays Yugioh because all of his friends moved off getting jobs and starting families you know, and all the MTG tournaments are held on the weekends he has to work. It’s been like that for years… So he took up yugioh, which he doesn’t like as well, but he likes the trading and meeting people and the gameplay and such. No harm has come from that game. In fact, we’ll be encouraging our children to learn to play, if they want. We have even bought our eldest a bunch of the Harry Potter cards since he was so interested in them.I know… We must be horrible parents.

    Have a great week!!!

    *Jac*

  • …Let kids be kids, they are like what, 10-14? they will grow out of it so why not let them enjoy it.

oh, unless the Bible says “no magic cards!”

  • Also, im not going to think poorly of the christian ommunity now.

just the insecure person, that thinks MTG is eeeevil..

yeah this reminds me of the movie waterboy…

the mom constantly calling things evil..

  • Your kidding me right?Let’s just get our facts straight. Pokemon is anime.anime is japanese cartoons. That’s the problem with some americans, they’re afraid of anything they’re unfamiliar with.Sadly almost every retarded american cartoon show has cards. don’t believe, go into a card shop and your bound to find some trading card collection for like avatar or something of the sort.Pokemon are not satanic monsters, they just encourage children to catch em all

  • That’s pretty much the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard…
I’ve played Magic for a long time, and I’ve been a Christian even longer. Shoot, a group of us would play MTG on long bus trips in the Youth dept.

Blaming cards for stuff like that might as well be admitting that you’re bad parents…
    ~LTG~

  • I’m actually a board and card game collector. I buy games over the internet from foreign countries and get translations of the rules from the internet.

Pokemon, Magic The Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh are called “collectible card games” (CCG for short). And I have a real problem with CCGs.

To answer the initial question, yes Pokemon cards are a stepping stone to Magic The Gathering. If I’m not mistaken, the two games have very similar rules, and they are both manufactured by the same company (Wizards Of The Coast).

Is MTG bad/harmful/evil? There’s been plenty of discussion about that already, so I’ll refrain. Instead, let me point out what’s wrong with CCGs as a whole.

But first, a basic primer for the uninitaited about how CCGs work. With an ordinary game, you buy the box and you’re ready to play. Simple enough. With a CCG, you buy a bunch of cards in a pack (like I used to do with baseball cards. Anybody interested in 80,000 baseball cards from the late 80s-early 90s?). Each pack usually has several common cards (which aren’t very powerful at all), a few uncommon cards (which are somewhat powerful), and one rare card (which is quite powerful). After buying several packs, you choose the cards you want for your deck. Then you find somebody else who has their deck, and you play against each other.

Here’s the problem: it’s a big waste of both time and money.

How is it a waste of time? Serious players (if you’re not a serious player, you hardly stand a chance of winning) will constantly fine-tune their decks. This is called “deck-building”. Deck-building takes a lot of time.

How is it a waste of money? In two ways. For the amount of money that it takes to buy enough packs to build a decent deck, you could have bought a board game in a box. But you can still only play against someone who has their own deck too. With a board game in a box, your friends don’t need to bring anything except an open mind. With a CCG, maybe you could loan your friend one of your decks but that takes even more money, and besides you’d know what they have. The second way is through buying individual cards. If you go to a gaming store, they will usually have individual uncommon and rare cards for sale. They’re kept under a glass counter, like jewelery. Some uncommon cards cost more than an entire pack. One rare card can cost tens or even hundreds of dollars!

And one more problem. Among kind and teens especially, owning the rarest cards becomes a measure of coolness. They begin to measure their self-esteem based on their ability and willingness to put down a chuck of money for a slab of cardboard. Kids who play the game but can’t afford the rare cards aren’t part of the CCG “in-crowd”.

I’m not against having fun. But wasting money is a bad idea, plain and simple. A person can easily find ways to entertian themselves without blowing a ton of cash.

What if, instead of spending $50 for one card (my sister’s ex-boyfriend actually spent that much for The Executioner from Decipher’s Star Wars CCG), a person spent $10 or $15 doing something else that is fun? The difference could be invested in a retirement account. Do that dozens of times a year, for several decades, and you’ll have an extra $21,000 when you retire ($35 x 12 months x 50 years). And that doesn’t even count interest! Do the same thing at 3% interest (APR, compounded monthly), and we’re talking upwards of $48,000! And that’s being conservative. Most retirement accounts do a lot better than 3%. Mine has averaged 16% over the last 20+ years. If the retirement account earns 10% interest, we’re talking $600,000 or more. That’s over than half a million dollars!

The problem is, these games are generally marketed to kids, teens, and young adults … people who haven’t yet developed a clear idea about the real value of money. (I know I’ll probably get hate mail from teenagers, saying they know what money is worth. Just wait. Once you have to buy your own food, pay your own power bill, and support your own family, then you’ll understand.)

If you want a good strategy game, I recommend The Settlers of Catan. The board is different every time you play, so the game never gets old. You can find out about all kinds of games like Settlers on a website called www. boardgamegeek.com.

  • Absolutely not. It is a card game same as Magic is but they have different set-ups and different rules. There are bound to be similarities. I was exposed to Magic before Pokemon even came out and I loved it far more than Pokemon. To me the Pokemon cards was the equivalent to baseball cards. They were something popular that you could trade and try and collect all of them (I’m missing 6 of the original 151). Magic was one of the original card games and due to its popularity others followed suite. It still comes down to the fact that they are laminated paper board with pictures on them, nothing more. They are just like the bible. Neither has meaning until we give it meaning.

  • Yes. ”Magic” used here is a namebrand owned by the company “Wizards of the Coast.”  Coincidentally, WotC also owns and produces Pokemon cards.  The format and gameplay of both games is EXACTLY the same.  Yes…I am a geek.

  • Pokemon are named after Japanese Demons. A missionary in Japan was there the first time they became popular over there. One of his members of his church said ‘This is horrible! These ‘Pokemon’ are named after the demons.’ So yeah…

Plus they can be obsessive. For some kids Pokemon is their whole world. When their friends come over they watch Pokemon episodes, trade pokemon cards, and play Pokemon Games on their Game Boy. :/

  • More detailed:

Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Matthew 7:17: “Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”
2 Chronicles 33:6: “And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.”
Psalm 101:3: “I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”
Philippians 4:8-9: “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you”.
Proverbs 4:23: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

  • Well, it DOES increase math skills.  I like the games.  I can never forget at one homeschool play group, when kids were small, one kid was running around telling everyone to destroy their cards because they were all Japanese gods.  OMG>  Doesn’t anyone read the new testament?  I mean, when Timothy had a problem with eating food offered to pagan gods, Paul said, if it BOTHERS YOU, DON”T EAT IT!   I mean, doesn’t prayer purify something?  Do these images have that much power?  oh well…  drakonskyr was funny.

  • Japanese demons are not the same as American/European demons. It’s a Japanese culture issue. In Japanese culture there are “bad guy” demons and there are “good guy” demons. Think about magical creatures in European folk-lore: Rumpelstiltskin, Peter Pan, unicorns, satyrs, leprechauns, etc… In Japan those would be called “demons” because they’re magical and not human. I believe Americans/Europeans call them “Faeries”? It’s the same thing, just with a different word that has a negative connotation in the English language.

As far as obsessing goes, yes, kids can obsess over the cards. Kids can also obsess over baseball. or school. or cheerleading. or skateboarding. or anything else that they enjoy doing. If the child in question has proper parental guidance, it won’t be a problem.

  • Christian Parents need to teach their children to have more faith in God so that they wont be swayed as easily as they think. By not exposing them to something as mundane as Pokemon cards WILL make them want to see why. Banning things like Magic Cards and Harry Potter does not strengthen your faith but rather it shows how weak it truly is in the first place.

  • You know, those magic cards aren’t REALLY magic. It’s all just fiction, folks. Just a game.

  • so yea, magic refers to magic the gathering which doesnt have much to do with magic per say, not too much more then pokemon

  • Wow, JusticeandLiberty…that is probably the saddest thing I have read this week.  Imagination is a fantastic thing.  Where does it say in the Bible that imagination and allowing children to read fantasy is evil?  The Christian god does not want robots without brains.  Creativity should be encouraged, not banned.

  • no, it’s a cartoon, good lord.

  • does anyone even do that anymore?

  • I don`t have any Pokemon cards, but i used to watch Pokemon cartoon when i was a kid.

  • :P I’m not banned from Pokemon, Harry Potter, etc. I just refuse to watch them because I have better things to do besides watching Japanese Demons fight the bad guys while Team Rocket flys in the sky again or whatever…

  • It’s a game…*sigh* People these days take things WAY to serious. It’s a fantasy game not a way to get kids to worship the devil.

  • It’s people like those that make me feel almost ashamed to be christian. They give us a bad name. Not every christian is like that. I love Harry Potter and i see no problem with pokemon cards or magic the gathering. But i guess being open minded means you’re going to hell these days (at least according to these ‘cant-say-a-sentence-without-a-bible-quote-fun-hating-childhood-killing-extremist-zealots!)

  • hahahhahahahahahah no way on earth.

I went to a christian daycare as a kid and they almost encouraged them because they would keep us busy for hours.

    They’re like baseball cards.
ZOMZ! UNLESS BASEBALL CARDS ARE CONNECTED TO TAROT CARDS!

    OH NO!

  • Magic: The Gathering?
    that’s an awesome game
only fucktards think it’s ‘real’ magic
/sorry, but a lot of people around here believe that Magic cards are the devil

  • No, if anything they’re so retarded that they steer kids away from playing other cards.

  • Does it matter? Just because some Christians are rather psychotic doesn’t mean that we all are.

I really don’t think they’re in any way bad.

  • BEWARE THE POKEMON CARDS!!

Satan is out to get your all-too-good-Christian souls…through Japanse animation!

SUFFER the CONSEQUENCES of BAD PARENTING!!
