Lots of rape cases don’t have enough evidence to go to court. That doesn’t mean that a rape didn’t occur. If you want to wave around the right to be considered innocent until proven guilty (concerning the lacrosse players), then respect that right for the alleged victim. No one has proved that she fabricated the charges to get money or attention or whatever out of the lawsuit, so don’t indicate that is so.

I thought she was a stripper.
That as well, but no she was really a prostitute. That was the reason for the five different semen simples they found in her, none of which matched the defendants.

Well, if they’re not guilty I guess thats that. I would look for a counterlawsuit, these accusations have pretty much ruined these guys’ lives. If they are guilty, I guess I feel bad for the “victim”. She was very inconsistent
Physical evidence can be hard to find in many rape cases. It doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Even if this woman is a stripper, or a prostitute, it doesn’t mean she wasn’t raped. In fact, in many situations it is likely that she was, because women in these positions are easier to take advantage of, less likely to report the crime, and rarely believed. If the evidence wasn’t there – the case for many rapes – which believe me – are happening all the time and not seeing convictions – than the only choice was to drop the case. I’m not arguing that a rape charge without evidence should be prosecuted, I’m just saying it doesn’t necessarily mean the rape didn’t happen.
I guess I’m just saying if we get all uptight about people making character judgements on people right away – i.e. the lacrosse players – let’s not just turn around and start attacking the woman instead. We don’t have to burn anyone at the stake, and two wrongs don’t make a right.
She lied, save your pity for the real victims not someone like this hooker, who makes it hard on everyone. She lied, she damaged innocent men, and made the next real victim have a harder time proving her case

I only wish the innocence of the lacrosse players could wash away the tarnish now on their reputations.
This girl who cried wolf has not only inflicted harm upon the innocent, she has wasted people’s money and slapped all people everywhere who ever have been raped. I don’t understand how people can take up for her; if they believe her, which one of her different stories do they hold to? What do they do with the others?
At least it’s finally over. Unless, of course, they decide to counter sue or something…

hmmbumpus I think that how these young guys lives were completly ruined because of a charge from a stripper/prostitute kind of disproves your point. Obviously they are very hard to take advantage of since she was allowed to tell four different stories and she was still taken very seriously. To the point where 3 kids were gonna go to jail over it.

The prosecutor is the real villain in this case. Withholding exculpatory evidence, prolonging the agony long after he should have dropped the charges, all in the interest of publicity and a major conviction on his record. Unfortunately all too typical of prosecutors everywhere. I can only hope that he is disbarred.

Yah, I heard that. We (Johns Hopkins) played Duke in lacrosse this past weekend, and most of the (drunk) chants had nothing to do with lacrosse, I’ll tell you that much. It’s not really fair to the rest of the team, and especially to these three guys. Although, I’ll be honest with you; as much as most of my friends felt bad hearing the off-color chants, saying that these guys lives had been ruined, it wasn’t fair, etc., none of them could name the three players involved. So maybe their lives aren’t as screwed as we all think.

What’s almost funny is the number of people who don’t even live in this area, but think they know anything about the kids’ characters.
Plus, when a woman claims she’s raped, I tend to believe her. Why people would even begin to think that she made it up is beyond me. It’s not something you mess around with.
well, considering how many times she changed her story, i’d say it’s about time. i live not too far from duke, so you can imagine how this has all been littering my news… i mean, if someone gets raped, they deserve to go to jail and get other crap done to them in my opinion, but if the girl can’t even keep her story straight then it does seem that she is making her story up. which is just WRONG because so many women get raped and it goes ignored. not fair. i just hope they find something else to talk about on our news because i’m sick of hearing about it.

That’s not exactly what I said. I didn’t mean that this won’t follow them – “them” being both the three specific players and the whole Duke lacrosse team. All I meant was that while everyone and their brother knows about what happened, and yes, will be speculating about what really happened for a long time to come, I don’t think if someone walked up to the average Joe and said one of their names, word-association style, that most people would immediately know who was mentioned. (I’m not sure that sentence was clear, but I’m trying.) The people who know them already are not the people I’m talking about.
its funny how i noticed that a lot of people pointed out she was a stripper and prostitute. personally i think thats ignorance, to think that what she does for a living just proves she wasnt raped. it’s ridiculous! She very well could have and just because charges are dropped doesnt make these boys innocent of any wrong doing.
Oh crap, forgot to mention it a second time: yeah, embarassing as it was, Duke did beat us, 11-9. We’re really not having a good season, lol.

These young men were innocent. Some posters obviously are not aware that their DNA was not on the woman anywhere. Some posters obviously are also not aware that the crooked prosecutor knew this and withheld this information because he was running for re-election at the time of the alleged rape occurred and he needed the black vote. Also, one of the young men was not even at the party as he was at the same time at a restaurant paying for his meal of which there is a receipt from his Visa showing this fact. These boys were railroaded from the very beginning. They should be able to turn around and sue this woman who brought the false charges against them and also bring charges against the prosecutor who knew they were innocent but pursued them to help him get re-elected. The woman also was sooooo traumatized over the “rape” that she screwed immediately with her “boyfriend”, got pregnant and had a baby. Of which DNA was taken and it showed none of the young men falsely charged with raping her were the father. But of course they were not the father, they didn’t rape her in the first place!
So now where do these young men go to get back their good name?

Its because they’re white. And you can’t disagree.
If those boys were black, and the stripper white, with the same evidence, the verdict would’ve been reported months ago with the boys being guilty.

The article makes the victim sound like the criminal – typical. I guess if you were raped by 3 guys you would have many variables in the situation to try to make sense of. Trauma messes with your head and memory. But of course, since she was black and had mental problems anyway and they are rich white boys – typical.
