what about his leadin to the colbert report?
Um, I think it’s a mistake for Jon Stewart to be put on NBC.. unless the station is ready to answer for him.
But he’s a really funny guy, I wouldn’t mind finally being able to watch his show, since my ass doesn’t have cable.
“Sell out!”
I’m sure that (“Sell out!”) is what elitist fans would say.
Yes! Jon, please stay on Comedy Central!

Yes, because I feel that most people would forget it is comedy.
John Stewart is a very honest fellow. If he joins NBC they have to agree to let him do things his way. He isnt a dancing monkey for us all to watch when hes poked or bothered. Remember his interview on CNN?
to be quite honest, i don’t much care where he goes.

i agree….
I don’t watch Comedy Central. Couldn’t tell ya’.
Yes. Very BAD idea.
he wouldn’t have the creative liscense that he has now
ryc: i’ve actually known her for about 12 years, and we’ve always been close.. i think i just really want to make girlfriends because my friends have always been disproportionately male – and there must be some sort of world out there that i don’t know about because of the disparity. but i love my boys, i really do. : )
Most likely. But god that would be funny.
Eh, I don’t get into comedy. He looks slightly familer, but I don’t even know who he is…
YES. absolutely it would undercut him…
Don’t know. Don’t watch it. Don’t care. :shrugs:
yes; he would probably have to adhere to stricter prime-time/major network guidelines.
Yes I think it would be. He has more freedom on cable.
or phrased better, “less censorship on cable”
I think he could do both
Probably.
But still, if the news was just his show… I would watch it. Religiously
is he going to be a late night talk show host? that would be cool. i don’t think he would be right for the prime news time though.
I think it would be a huge mistake. I would bet that Conan and Jay would like to be able to do some of the things that Stewart does on his show but they are not allowed by the censors because of how obsessive the broadcast networks can be with their restrictions.
OH Jon Stewart, I love your witt no matter where you go but I think going mainstream would censor your creativity.
Bad move. He’s got a very distinct style and following. He can do what he wants on cable, and I’m not sure he’d have the same freedom on network television.
every other show he’s made besides the Daily Show has failed. It doesn’t bode well for him.
jon stewart ruless
I dont care where he goes; I will follow.
Yes, because NBC is where shows go to die.
I’d rather him stay on comedy central!
It might hurt Comedy Central, but not Jon Stewart’s career.
I’m reminded of George Strombolopolus (or however the hell you spell his name) making the jump from Much Music Vjay to CBC news reporter. He sure doesn’t look like he fits in with his piercings and all, but he’s doing quite well for himself there!
nope, his contract is up next year anyway
I think so. NBC would be more likely to censor.
yeah
I really don’t even care!
Yes. It would be a further burring of the line between news and entertainment.
Somehow I just can’t see him on NBC..keep him on the comedy channel.
Huge mistake.
Bleh…I don’t care….I can’t stand Jon Stewart…
hell yes
my new favorite comedy central show. Lil’ Bush.
in a way, yes, it would be a mistake not to switch to a major network; his message is too important to be kept to cable.
the bourgeoisie need to know what’s going on, and if they get entertainment out of it then more’s the better.
seriously, as a college student, my friends and I know what’s going from reading blogs and watching the Daily Show.
network news is so biased.
Which one is Jon Stewart?
stay on cc!! big mistake to move!
No. If Steve Colbert left, it’d be fine, but I find Steve funnier.
As much as I would like him to come out to the public airwaves, here is the question of the day: will he have the same staff as he does with the Daily Show? If he does not, and if he does not have the same freedom to do whatever he wants on air, he’d best not leave.
mmm, i dont know – they are pron trying to get him because fox has a “funny” news show now. i have not watched it yet but its supposed to be funny.
Daniel (doubledb)
Yes – it would be a mistake. I don’t think he’d consider it.
he is a comedian not a journalist, he should stay put
If he wants, he’ll leave.
But I really do like the Stewart to Colbert transition.
It’d be inconvenient for all of us Stewart fans to flip to Colbert right after his show went off [assuming they were around the same time to begin with], and no one wants to miss Stephen’s intro to his show. =]
♥
he does what he wants
Like making the Daily Show switch channels? Or just him without his show? Yeah. that would make me sad, because then it might be on at the same time as Colbert Report or South Park and I would have to pic one to watch…
Big mistake. Less freedom for him.
His fans would be broken, but he should do what makes him happy.
YES. i LOVE that man. something tells me that NBC would censor him just a bit more than comedy central.
It would probably be a bad move. But at least I’d get to watch the show.
Oh yes.
What? Are they going to have some comedy news show now?
monumental mistake
Nope… Ang
Due to how conservative networks like NBC have to be, I don’t think Stewart is going to leave something as good (and in my opinion more respectable than most news stations) of a show as The Daily Show. He’s most likely just in talks to work on a project of some sort.
I think it’d be fine. I’m all for spreading the funny. Unless they’d have to censor themselves – or would they just cut the really “objectionable” parts?
yeah, I agree with Kestryl
YES.
The worst thing anyone can do is take themselves too seriously.
I think it would be a mistake for NBC to hire Jon Stewart.
that would suck.
It would be a huge mistake.
If there were a way for him to be on both, that would be great. But I like him on comedy central…
His branding and Q rating are with comedy central.
Hm. Well I love the Daily Show followed by the Colbert Report. They should take both. Get a liberal view, and conservative. Also it depends on how much they’ll interfere. Just because he’s on NBC doesn’t mean he’s a sell out. He only would be if he changed. Again comes the question of restrictions.
Personally, I can see why they’d consider it. The average viewer is smarter (and becoming better educated on issues) than any other “real” news show. To bring more viewership could actually become a social phenomanon. But that’s a little hopeful.
Enough ramblings. Conclusion: undecided.
I think Jon Stewart is one of the more informative and honest news shows out there. If he gets more attention and viewers, it will be a good thing.
Unfortunately some of the above commenters have a good point, that if he leaves Comedy Central he may be censored more, and have less freedom on what he says and reports on.
Hell yes it would be a mistake!
yes
NOOOOOOO…BRING COLBERT, HE’S WAAAAY BETTER!!!
no cause he would prolly get more money and more viewers!!!!I wouldn’t mind if he kept his show and everything
it would definitely have to be more conservative. but you have to say its pretty cool that nbc wants him to come over. they want those ratings.
Hell yes. Especially if he goes to NBC he’ll be cancelled in a week.
Do I think Jon Stewart is hilarious? yes. Do I think his commentary should be taken seriously? no.
But we humans only listen to what we want to hear, anyway, so it doesn´t matter where he´s at. People believe comedy because it makes them happy. If only people could be happy hearing the truth…
I’d miss him on the Daily Show…but, he, it’s his career. Change is good.
Well, I don’t think I’d be overly happy.
But if Colbert left I would DIE.
Yeah, besides the censorship that everyone else has mentioned, I think we all know him on Comedy Central, and if he moves that may make his viewership shaky for a bit. I know I would be less likely to watch once I don’t have the Daily Show/Colbert Report block. In the end, I think it will just change what we know to be Jon Stewart’s comedy, maybe for better, maybe for worse, but it won’t be the same.
Whoa, someone just called the Daily Show the liberal view and the Colbert Report the conservative view. I feel bad for the conservatives, because the Colbert Report is satire, therefore making it…not really conservative.
i think he belongs in comedy.
i wouldn’t know about NBC though.
that’s a big serious step.
John Stewart would never agree to go public tv.
Probably.
Hm. Don’t know, don’t care.
Don’t know, Don’t care.
