Boston Red Sox fans held up signs with 756 with an asterisk because of the feeling that Barry Bonds will break the homerun record because of the use of steroids.
Should Barry Bonds record have an asterisk next to it?
..Yeah, that’s cheating. And cheating’s not cool. What does it teach the kids that may look up to him?
“Yeah, kiddies, taking steroids can let you do anything!”
Yeah, no. Go with the asterisk, or just don’t give him the record at all. Make an example out of him.
i don’t understand baseball.
Hmmm…it was proven he used steroids, right? He probably shouldn’t even be allowed the record at all. Nobody likes a cheater.
Barry Bonds life is such a sad story. I want to feel sorry for him, but it’s tough . . .
That is if they keep his record on the books. I think they should wait until he retires and then expunge his records from the books and ban him from the hall of fame forever.
I see him as one of many stains on the sport of baseball.
I also think that Mark McGwire’s 70 homeruns should be expunged because he admitted to using a substance (I forget what it was) that acts much like steroids.
Yes.
Actually the thought has crossed my mind that maybe they should just ban all baseball players for life. Then I thought about it a little more and decided that was not really fair.
Yes. Even though I want to say that steroids won’t turn you into a good baseball player if you aren’t already good at it. I do think his name should have an astericks by it.
Yes.
What I really love, though, is that the kid in the background is wearing a Yankees shirt.
Don’t know. Don’t care. ;shrugs: I think I said this regarding another post. Damn. Am I apathetic or what?!
Sure…
I think every record broken by a player on steroids should be marked. Only problem with that is that most records nowadays would have asterisks on them. It’s really disappointing.
yes, all the modern players should
Are asterisks like, scarlet letter of baseball records?
Pitchers used steroids too!
probably, im not a fan…. he’s lame
You people shouldn’t comment, you don’t know shit!
O NOEZ! A big BAAAD asterisk! The horror!
Ha! That’s funny! I like when you have to think just a little to find the disrespect!
Yes.
No. MLB randomly drug tests its players and Barry Bonds has never failed one. Fans simply assume he is taking them. You are innocent until proven guilty and everyone seems to be forgetting this.
He admitted rubbing flaxseed oil on his knee. The oil was provided to him by a trainer and that trainer was later shown to be associated with a company distributing steroids. He didn’t hide this fact. People just assume he’s guilty.
if you look at pictures from barry bonds early years to now theres too much of a difference.
If i remeber right there is also a difference not too long after his rookie season. i wish i could find a pic closer time wise but whatever
They should. Then, when some kid in the future breaks his record without using anything, people will talk about how he has an “Asterisk-less Record.” And everyone on Xanga 2.36547648687986097 will be wondering who came up with the retarded asterisk idea in the first place. Big circle
damn. the pic i posted isnt showing up. lammmeeee
I say someone. preferrably Randy Johnson, throws a 100+ mph fastball at his elbow and shatters it right before he breaks the record.
LOL. Asterisk.
most definately…i mean taking steriods is basicly cheating, so why should barry bonds be recognized ahead of someone who worked for that recognition without steroids or cheating
ok…so im just throwing this out there…but how do we know back in the day they didnt have something that they used to help them?…i mean has anyone looked into that?
and he has NOT tested positive at all….so why are people acting like he has
haha sure*
I think so.
then again, I’m always the guy who gets yelled at for not paying attention whenever we have to play baseball in gym xD
y-e-s
Oh yes!!!!
Yeah
Yes. But that’s a bit mean.. just look at his face =[
I want to say yes. But I’d also like to know for sure that he was cheating. After all, I still believe in innocent until proven guilty.
I think so.
Don’t they all take steroids or stuff like that?! Just some get caught…
as long as he never makes it into the hall of fame, i don’t care. i know that ruth and aaron were both 10 times the player bonds is
what burns me though is that he has a chance to get in, where as pete rose doesn’t. somehow, in my mind, padding stats with performance inhancing drugs leaves a bigger stain on the sport that, oh noes, gambling. the man is the all time hits leader for god’s sake, one of TWO in the 4,000 hit club
here’s a question for you dan – why is the mlb so adament about keeping pete rose out of the hall of fame?
yes
dont care really, though I am reminded of the SNL skit of the All Drug Olympics. Just see what drugs can make a human body do.
Babe Ruth used performance enhancers call BOOZE!!! Guarenteed to make you all warm ‘n’ fuzzy inside!
Whether Bonds used the steroids or not, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth were batting a million years ago when the game was very different. Think of it this way, all Ruth had to hit was the fast ball, so should any of his home runs count?
and he has NOT tested positive at all….so why are people acting like he has
confound it all. quoting hebchill made everything into a link…
if modern rules and stadium deminsions applied during ruth’s time, he would’ve hit around 100 homers in 1921, 6 years BEFORE the big 60. pitchers in ruth’s time didn’t just throw the fastball, they had the curve, the spitter, the knuckler, the slider, the cutter, the screwball, and the splitter
so, yes, i *do* believe we should count all of ruth’s home runs
baseball players from 1980 on should all have asterisks.
That anyone cares makes me weep for the future. There are so many issues that matter. This is not one of them.
I don’t think he should be allowed at all. Sports records have become a joke. Hank came by that record honestly.
If Bonds gets an asterisk, so should Giambi, McGuire, etc. Bonds is not the only freaking man in baseball using these substances.
I love my Boston fans! They can call it!
No.
Haha yes.
GO BOSTON!!!!!!!
yup.
yeah..actually why would he even be allowed to be in the hall of fame in the first place? it seems a bit messed up.
amanda
Yeah, but I think we’d have to prove that he was using steroids. I actually think that if he has been proven to use steroids, his record does not count and there is no such thing as homerun record by barry bonds.
YEs, and eople will not for all-time what there is an **** next to his name.. its his fault and no one can sya how many he did or did not hit on drugs, so its only fair
Daniel (doubledb)
No they’re all on steroids some just don’t get caught
Hey Dan! Wow – I missed out on this bit of news. Was he busted for steroid use?
That’s funny! Oh, Red Sox fans…
I wouldn’t know.
yes hes stupid…i hate barry bonds hes a cheater
Should Barry Bonds record have an asterisk next to it?
“Barry Bonds’ record”, you mean.
Who cares? Steroids shrink the testes and reduce how hard a penis can get.
yep
Seems like CornFlake Girl8, volunteered to check if Barry Bonds did infact use steroids.
NO! Many players have used steroids, what about Mark McGuire? Does he have an asterisk next to his name?!
Comments (73)
Yes, I believe he should. Suitable ‘consequence’.
Yes!
yup

because it’s been proven that the substances he recieved from the balco company don’t even SHOW UP on baseball’s steroid tests….that’s the whole point of using them. he was on a list of balco customers who have admitted to and/or been caught using steroids in professional sports. besides, he gained 15 pounds of pure muscle in fewer than 100 days. you can’t do that naturally, it’s physically impossible. he went from size a 10 ½ to size 13 cleats, and from a size 7 1/8 to size 7 ¼ cap. people’s feet and heads don’t just suddenly grow in their mid to late 40′s
confound it all. quoting hebchill made everything into a link…

Not until use of steroids is proven.
