Wedding Dresses
When my wife and I got married, I wanted her to wear a dress that was traditional. I wanted her to wear one that was puffy at the bottom.
I have heard that they call these dresses “princess dresses.”
Then there are the more modern dresses that are straight at the bottom.
I never liked that type.
Do you prefer a puffy dress or a straight dress?

puffy
def puffy.
and first……. i like the “old school” dresses better..although i do like the model in the 2nd dress….. she might change my mind
I don’t like either. I want to wear a cocktail dress to my wedding.
It’s her chance to look as pretty and “princessy” as she darn wants. No one has the right to make her feel unfashionable on her wedding day, dadgumit.
the straight ones, if you have the body for it.
puffy
Compare the two type of pictures that you had provide I liked the one with the puffy bottom. Actually, I like it so much I wish I can have the exact dress from the first picture when I get married. Wow, is all I can say!
I am a princess girl myself. But I think the bride should wear what makes her feel like a princess, whether it’s pouffy or straight.
It does depend on body type and the type of ceremony. Based on personal preference, I like the puffy one too!
i’ve got the hella curves to pull off the straighter cut dress. and usually do.
my wedding dress, however, will probably be more of the ‘poofier’ kind, seeing as every girl wants to be a princessy type when she gets married.
neither fit me well . . .
Puffy !
This sounds horrible … but which one is cheaper? lol, I’ll be getting married on a budget, so I really don’t have a preference.
Except I prefer lace to satin.

you know how princessy I am…so I’d go puffy (and I did!)
*HUGS*
i like straighter cut dresses. i don’t know. i like things that are simple, clean…but still elegant. i think the type of dress a woman chooses is her own decision. on a wedding day, it’s not about which dress you wear. rather, it’s how beautiful the woman feels.
puffy
Probably Puffy.
Or more probable – neither. Wear pants. Be different.
Mine was a puffy dress….much like Princess Diana’s.
If I ever get married again, I’d probably go with straight. Puffy is for young princess brides.
uh, somewhere in between, but closer to the puffy type!
i like puffy
I like both styles personally. My wedding dress was more puffy though.
it depends on your body type. If you are really, really short, overweight or a combination of both, the princess cut (or ballgown even puffier than that), make you look fatter than you are.
I thought I was going to get an A-line cut dress, but I ended up getting a ballgown/princess. I never thought I would but they looked the best on me.
I wouldn’t call that first skirt “puffy,” but if that’s what “puffy” is, I guess I like the puffy.
Straight dresses can look nice, too, but I don’t like the one pictured here.
puffy
Make mine puffy!!
I would definitely love a puffy princess dress for my wedding day.
straight. or rather mermaid.
I like the first dress. I don’t want to get one thats over the top puffy though. Like the dresses my mom made me wear when I was little. Although those were cute…
puffy. but not to puffy.
i want to show off my feminine curves..make it straight.
I wouldn’t know. I am going to elope. Jeans?
Puffy, definitely.
I want to wear the princess dress. How many other days in my life will I get to look like a princess?
puffy
let’s see ur wife’s wedding dress!!
The puffy princess type
I’d rather be a prettypretty princess.
The A-line (puffy) one definitely. Of course, if a lady has a bombshell body then the straight could be very flattering, too. For me, I’m going with an A-line in August. (YAY! I’m getting married in August! YAY!)
I wore a huge princess dress….It was absolutely gorgeous…but very hard to get around in….it had a train and also a hugely long veil.
That’s not usually what I would think “puffy” is.. I generally would not like puffy…but the one in the picture you showed I do like.
dont care much
LOL It is so odd to me that you are asking this question… lol
Having worked in a bridal shop… and having had to fit many…. MANY dresses… I can say with confidence that the puffy princess style will never go away. The slim line is popular… but almost every bride who put one on at some point in her try on would say something like but I would worry about falling on my face… lol
I like them all… every bride is a beuty… even when she’s sitting on the dressing room floor crying because she thinks she’s fat… oye…
Puffy. It just looks more like a wedding dress. I like wedding dresses that look like wedding dresses. Princess is a good term for it, that’s the day women feel like a princess (most times).
I also don’t like the idea of having to wear cream or off-white for your 2nd and beyond marriage. So it’s not your first… not like you were a virgin when you got married the first time, why should it matter the second time around?
Aww, both are so pretty.
Princess
Whatever she feels good in.
Puffy, but I’m so short I’d look like the dress swallowed me
PUFFY!!!!!
I wore a “princess” style one. So I guess that’s the one I prefer.
I’d have to go with the straight one.
I’m not a fan of puffiness.
♥
Both.
I like the top of the straighter dress (a fitted/corsety type top) and the puffier bottom
I think I look better in the straight ones, but I’d accept my husband to be’s input on the matter, since part of my goal will be knocking his socks off with my loveliness. I could wear either.
Puffy.
I’m much too curvy to wear a straight cut dress.
So…puffy. haha
<33
As long as their both hikeable, who cares? I suppose you could hide underneath the puffy one, though.
The Princess style for me please, long white gloves and a beautiful trailing veil.
Puffy.
you would need the body for the straight cut
but i kinda like the puffy one more
I like the princessy ones better
I’m certianly a poofy princess girl myself. I LOVED my princessy off the shoulder wedding gown! Now I have also had some friends that wore the Mermaid design and they looked wonderful too…but I don’t know…it doesn’t seem quite so bride like in the slim fit type though…
puffy.
Mine was in between. Not frou frou, but not fitted. I’m a simple ‘gal and my dress was simple too.
Besides, Dan, you can’t dictate what she chooses to wear. If you do, there’s a trouble brewin’ in those hills…
puffy. by far.
Call me “Puffy”. That’s the kind I had at my wedding… way back in the day!
iΒ΄m a pretty puffy girl myself.
iΒ΄m a straight guy, though.
this comment can only have negative connotations, but i couldnΒ΄t resist.
i like the princess dress.
I like puffy, the top one, but not the bottom one so much…
puffy dresses. then i will be the prince charming
Puffy.
I personally prefer the “puffy” ones, cause they looks very princessy, while the others just look like prom dresses.
The puffy one is pretty in the picture… However, I usually perfer the straight ones. Always had.
Puffy for sure…when I got married I wore a hoop skirt under my dress and had to be careful that the whole thing didn’t go over up over the top of my head when I sat down..
The puffy ones are less comfortable than the straight ones. And if I’m going to be wearing a wedding dress all day I prefer to be comfortable. Also, the straight kind would show off my curves.
Puffy.
im goin to go with puffy
I really don’t care for the puffy dresses. I want something sleek and straight. Something very simple and elegant.
Puffy dresses look more like circus tents than elegant… to me anyway.
puffy
Straight. This reminds me of prom dress shopping. Princess-y wasn’t my thing then.
I like the straight ones, but I would wear the puffy ones because of my “generous curves” (big butt).
I like straight dresses. They look so much more elegant, though I suppose puffy dresses are more “bridal”.
Assuming I can ever get married, I plan on having a satin, silver, straight-cut dress.
I like the princess dresses
puffy
I prefer puffy, because it has that ‘swishy’ look, but if I find a nice straight one when I look one day far far far away, I’ll get it.
depends on the wedding. my wedding will be on the beach. i like puffy but it’s not the sort of dress to wear for a beach wedding IMO. my dress is straight.
I don’t look good in either.
depends on the rest of the dress
Poofy for me.
The dress has got to be EXTREMELY EXTREMELY beautiful and amazing and not simple (ew, not simple on a wedding) if it’s going to be straight cut like that. I personally haven’t seen one yet that I’ve liked. Puffy is beautiful and it makes you seem like your not just one of the guests. It’s beautiful and luxurious and there’s something about it that truly is so regal. I would never go for a straight cut one.
I don’t like the puffy ones at all. The straight dress just looks more grownup, less Barbie Princess.
I have accidently stepped on those “princess dresses” many times at weddings. So for a change I would like to stand next to someone with a straight bottom dress.
puffy!!
STRAIGHT!!!
I’m only 5’2″. Wearing a puffy dress makes me look like a pumkin!
i would want a puffy princess one,
My sister wore a straight dress for her wedding, but she looked gorgeous in it.. I on the other hand would look AWFUL in a dress like that. I’ve also had it in my head that I want the puffy dress if I ever get married.
I like the “puffy” one.
puffy. I don’t want to look like a princess when i get married…
I want to look like a QUEEN, darn it!
Personally, I like the puffy princess one =)
I won’t be attending my own wedding.
I like a taper, but not too much poof.
Too much poof makes a person look stuffy and pretentious. Too little volume, and you look too casual.
I think the type I like, they call it “mermaid” style.
I really don’t care. It is her dress so she can wear whatever style dress she wants to. For all I care she could wear shorts and a t-shirt.
puffy, ha.
puffy for the ceremony, straight for the reception
For all but the bride, I like a form fitting dress better (easier to dance). But a wedding is a (hopefully) once in a lifetime thing, so bigger is better in that case.
But for the love of all that’s true, right, and good in the world, please no puffed sleeves (with due respect to Anne of Green Gables).
Princess type all the way!!!! That’s what I had. And I wanted the longest train I could get, which back then wasn’t really all that long…
ryc: Yup. Same name as my xanga. So is Facebook. I know, it’s scary huh?
Whichever one is not tacky looking and doesn’t make me look like a whale…
Whichever one isn’t strapless! God, I hate those things. Less than 1% of women even look decent in them. It’s cruel and unusual.
Of the two dresses pictured, I like the “poofy” one, although I might wear a straight one depending on the style.
puffy looks better and more comfortable to me…
I’d go for the straight one.
staright!!…the puffyness is way to much for me!
Puffy. I had one that was kind of straight in the front, but the back had a long train with lots of details on the front and back (seed pearls and beads). Cream. Loved it. $149
straight is sexy. puffy is beautiful
Puff Puff Puff! Of course!
Which ever hids the fat rolls best.
puffy ones- she only has one day to wear this & not look like a fool, beautiful pic btw
I didn’t know men cared about that.
straighter, but not as fitted as that picture.
ball gown…same thing as the puffy style…^^ but thats just because thats what looks good on me. They should choose what they like, and feel prettiest in!
Puffy.
Dan, you need help.
For a wedding, a straight dress.
i think it depends on the body type and of course what the bride feels beautiful in.
Puffy. What did she end up wearing?
I just read: ” I wanted to wear one that was puffy at the bottom.” lol
Puffy seems more fun
I prefer pants. then again I am a guy
Thought provoking, huh?
My dress was puffy at the bottom.
It’s practically the only time you get to wear that type of a dress. You wear the straight-skirt dresses all the time, why not do something fun and different for this one day? =)
Besides the puffy dresses are much more flattering, they make your waist seem tiny.
hahah thats cute you would even think that.
Straight.
i think it depends on the body type.
A-line. Not puffy, not straight.
I wear a puffy dress to cover my hips
I like my wife’s dress
Plain Jane wedding dresses make me sick.
I’m going to wear a cute colorful sundress. White is for virgins.
I love them both.
Mine was more puffy and traditional–but I did have some very bold crimson trim at the top and bottom…just to modernize it a bit.
Cmon, puffy is the best!
puffy.ΓΌ
Puffy ones seem harder to move in. They’re still pretty, though.
puffy!!
I will def. be wearing puff!
It all depends on what looks best on the bride. Some women can not wear the straight dresses do to their figures but most of us can wear the puffy one. I will have to post a pic of me in mine sometime. That would be a fun post!
its the bride’s decision. and no im not one of those girls that would dictate what the groom should wear either. she should wear what she likes and what looks good on her. its just a dress, it could be a sundress for all i care. everything about a wedding has become so superficial anyway. who has the best dress, the biggest ring, ick.
mine will be straight… like a lily…. i don’t like the one here though
The puffy dress. It shows more elegance. The straight ones just show off how slutty and vain a woman can be.
Puffy! I mean, it’s not everyday that you can dress like that. At other formal occasions you can always wear a dress similar to the straight one in a different color!
What did you wife end up wearing?
Puffy all the way
i really like puffy dresses for getting married
Puffy. They’re more fun. :3
I like number one for the wedding….althought it would be awesome to change into a similar cut dress like number 2 for the reception. (I’m Chinese..and we have 2-5 dresses…) lol
They’re both gorgeous.
It’s obviously whatever the bride likes best…
but for me?
Puffy!
which did she wear? i would wear the straight one just to piss you off
puffy.
I like both. As long as the sleeves aren’t puffy
I don’t understand the need to wear a costume like those puffy dresses to your wedding. They look silly, and they can’t be comfortable.
I wore a kickass strapless dress that my best friend sewed by hand (from the big scarf that came with her wedding dress.. it was a really big scarf) and huge gothic combat boots. It was teh best wedding outfit ever. I win!
puffy
personally straight but I don’t mind either.. just hate puffy on me
yes
depends – of the ones pictured, I prefer the first. It’s very elegant. But there are some really nice straight ones as well…
A-line
I like puffy the most, and I like some straight dresses. The one you pictured here doesn’t look good, however.
straight. the ones that bell at the bottom are cute imo.
also, the puffy ones i’ve seen don’t really look like the one you pictured. that one is gorgeous.
I think it depends on the woman. Some women look fabulous in “puffy” while others look more elegant in a straight dress. I think her personality/sense of style as well as her size can influence her choice of dress.
Bottom line, is it’s HER dress, so it should be exactly as she wants it.
justsyain….
Puffy.
straight. Though I have been called a princess several times lately
both are equally nice. but my butt would look too huge in a fitted one. so i’m going with puffy.
It depends on the individual woman’s body shape. If she’s pear shaped, she better wear the princess drss. If she’s big on top, but has a great mid and lower body then the straight dress will look better. If she has a rockin-hot body, anything will do. I personally like the princess. However, don’t forget…there ARE other types of dresses to choose from.
Puffy!
I like the princess one better. Even though I must say I think it odd that you told your wife what kind of dress you wanted her to wear. I want my husband to be surprised.
I don’t think I personally will wear a traditional wedding dress or even have a traditional wedding. I’m just not a very traditional person.
“I wanted her to wear a dress that was traditional” DAN!!! YOU are not allowed to have an opinion on the wedding dress!!! You are just supposed to dress like a penguin and show up and smile for pictures and say “i do” when prompted… that said… puffy. but not princess puffy. i want be able to sit down.
puffy.
those are classic and look beautiful on every woman.
fat girls look terrible in straight dresses.
Straight with lace
puffy, one of these days, i will feel more like a queen on my wedding day. lol
