Turn the Page
I was listening to a news program this morning where it was mentioned that a “Clinton” or a “Bush had been president for the last 20 years (as of the end of the current Bush administration). If you include the fact that the first “Bush” was vice-president for 8 years, a “Clinton” or “Bush” has been president or vice-president for the last 28 years (as of the end of the current Bush administration).
It is possible that a “Clinton” (Hillary) could win another 8 years and it is possible beyond that a “Bush” (Jeb) could be in office after that.
It is sort of interested to see how many of the people associated with these administrations are still around. It is amazing to me how long and how many administrations Dick Cheney has been involved in. President Bush brought in so many people from his dad’s administration and Reagan’s administration. I can only imagine that Hillary Clinton would bring in so many people from her husband’s administration.
Barack Obama is running a campaign with the theme it is time to “turn the page.”
On the one side I can see how experience and the same basic people can provide stability. I also see why some would think it is time to bring in new people.
I can’t help but wonder if after change actually takes place if people won’t miss the stability.
Is it time to “turn the page?”

Absolutely. It’s been time for a long while now.
im still not sure, i guess change is good sometimes
not under Obama it isn’t
Yes!…it is all about power, need me to say it again?
Oh BTW, a lot of the time, Barack Obama is a diarrheal of the mouth.
should we be electing dynasties? Change would be refreshing…
What stability? Yes, time for change.
yeah
Not under Obama. If Hilary Clinton is elected, our country will turn to shit.
I’m not all that familiar with the Republican candidates, but we don’t need anything that’s coming from the democratic side.
I hate Obama and Clinton. Obama is a known racist and you’d know this if you did a nice background check on his past (and some present) affiliations. Of course, he’s a black muslim so he can get away with it unlike a white guy. *rolls eyes* Hillary Clinton is just a saggy bitch with jowls. There’s a funny video of her online showing how she often resorts to her Arkansas twang when addressing large groups of non-whites.
However, electing a muslim of all religions to the presidency is a dire mistake. He might seem like candy and roses now on his campaign trail, but just wait. If he gets elected, we’re all screwed.
Democrats will raise taxes and destroy middle America, much like they’re doing currently. Not to mention what will happen with immigration that is already bringing this country to her knees.
I’m not for change with Clinton or Obama.
sure
Absolutely.
They misspelled it
Good God, let them all just go away. Obama doesn’t have a new idea in his head. He is just the same old, same old, but with a tan.
yes it is time i’m totally for obama
It is time to turn the page, but I’m still unsure as to whether it’d be a good idea to do it with Obama.
I think that all depends on the page. We need to get back to good, conservative economics like we had under Reagan. I remember the division in the GOP in 1980 when Bush was selected as Reagan’s Vice Presidential Candidate. It was George Bush, not Jimmy Carter or John Anderson who referred to Reaganomics as “Voodoo Economics”
In 1988 the elder Bush lied to the GOP and Reagan Democrats when he said “Read my lips: No new taxes.” at the GOP convention. Upon taking office, the first President Bush gave us, along with Tip O’Niell and the Democrats, the largest tax increase up until that time.
Clinton knew the public was ready for fiscal conservatism, so he went along with the GOP to balance the budget. Unfortunately, the programs cut to provide this were our military and intelligence communities. An unwise move in my opinion in the wake of the 1993 attempt on the World Trade Center.
Under Reagan we were strong. Nobody would have dared attack us. Our intelligence community knew where the threats were and we dealt with them accordingly. Sure, it cost money, but in the long run it saved us money.
Let’s turn the page, but lets make sure the next page is the right page. Obama isn’t even close to what we need.
Turn the page, close the book and open up a new one.
Good lord – yes – do we need some new blood. The same ol same ol isn’t working. I can see Obama or Edwards being that new guard kind of thing. Everyone else is kind of bleh.
in other words… it’s time to trunthepaige
couldn’t help myself
I think turning the page would be good for both administrations. However, I don’t think Obama’s is the right book.
Totally in for Obama as well. I’d rather die than see Hilary in office or another Bush.
I don’t want Hilary in office.
GO OBAMA! Obama is hopeful and he’s time for a change. He knows what the country needs, and he’s willing to go lengths to get us there. He wants universal healthcare, amnesty for immigrants, and to pull the troops out by spring of next year.
He’s going to turn the page. I want him to be president. He’d do an amazing job.
RYC
Ha ha national tragedy humor ha ha.
Thanks Theo! Sheesh.
All I can think of is the song “Turn the Page” and now I have it in my head as I type my comment…
Something has to change. Be it Hillary, Obama, Joe Shmoe…someone has to get the White house away from the mess it’s in. Someone has to get our country focused on where the REAL terrorists are – in our own backyard. The abismal state of health insurance, the tragedy of our nation’s poor and homeless, the seeminingly endless flow of money and tax breaks going to the richest – these are our country’s biggests threats. And they are being overshadowed by the administration pointing fingers overseas.
So yes, page-turning is wonderful. As long as we don’t get it turned to a re-printed page.
Last I checked, Obama was not a muslim. He said his father was raised as such in Kenya, but was disaffiliated with the faith by the time he met and married Barack’s mother. Barack was not raised with any particular faith and was eventually baptized at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago as an adult when he said he “realized” religion didn’t need to interfere with free, rational thinking or whatever it was he said. The claim that Obama is a muslim is a rumor and it has been debunked.
I’m not here to promote Obama or anything, but I think people need to do more research rather than listen to rumors and pass judgment that way.
I don’t really care who it is, as long as they can deliver a speech well.
Yep… Out with old, In with the new..
You bet it is.
Not sure about Obama in particular, but yanno.
Oh yes. If nothing else, then because Hillary in the White House is just a revolting thought.
B to the A to the R A C K A O B A M A
I’m ready to throw them both away – and everyone that was ever connected to them.
Bring back the Reagan years.
No Obama is not a Muslim you are confusing him with than new congressman out of Michigan. he is a racist and a Muslim, not that the two go together.
What stability? When this all began we had just won the Cold War after fifty some years of contest and were positioned as the world’s lone super power with few enemies and many admirers. Optimism was in the air and it was supposed to be a new golden age of Pax Americana. Now most of the world is very wary towards us if not openly hateful. Our civil rights are fading away, government corruption has reached new highs and the economic situation for the average consumer hasn’t really progressed anywhere. Finally, we live with the very real fear of terror attacks on American soil as a result of the huge anti-American animosity our failed foreign policy has generated over the past two decades and especially in the past four years when we destroyed the nation of Iraq and killed 600,000 of their people. I wouldn’t call that stability at all. Enough with this roller coaster ride; it’s time for a change.
I dunno, I don’t feel any stability. I don’t care for Obama, either. Not because of politics but because it’s mostly hype surrounding him because he’s “black” (half black half white, he could just as well be called white…).
bob seger for president!
Yes, it’s time to turn the page. I have no idea what to turn to, and will decide closer to the election.
Btw…Just two funny t-shirts I’ve seen for Obama. One was “half honkey, all donkey”…incredibly offensive, but funny. Also, “bros before hoes” with a picture of him and Hilary. Kind of off topic, but I don’t care.
Where in the world did ANYONE hear that Barack Obama was Muslim? For someone telling people to do their research, perhaps she should do hers. Just because his middle name is Hussein doesn’t mean the man himself is Muslim. He is United Church of Christ–QUITE a bit more liberal in religious belief than Muslim is. As for being racist? Unless someone is reading a smear paper, they are not likely to see evidence of that since he is of mixed descent.
Okay, to actually answer the question. Is it time to turn the page? I think it is time to turn the page on the Bush’s at least. I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to Hillary Clinton, but I like Obama as well. Obama could certain turn a few pages: Not only would he (at least) interrupt the Clinton-Bush reign he would be the first African-American (even if only half) president–something which our country needs to embrace. (Yes, I realize Hillary would be the first woman–also something our country needs to embrace.)
And the idea of Jeb Bush ever reaching the White House scares me to death! He seems (notice the word seems; I haven’t read up on him) even more inept than his brother can be at times.
Yes.
Stability? What do you mean by stability?
Just b/c someone’s been in office for a while, or held office before, doesn’t mean they’re any better. People remember Cheney as doing a pretty good job with the first Bush, but it seems the past 6 years he’s been nothing but a corrupt bastard that changes the rules to suit him best.
Sure, it’s nice to be able to have people gain experience and keep the same job for a while, in theory. But it’s also a very American notion to bring in fresh blood, who might have a different perspective, and be able to do things in a different way, break the molds that have held us back in the past.
That and I don’t think I could stand any more years with a Bush in power.
Actually, if you ask the thousands Cheney helped to put out of a job by cutting funding causing places like General Dynamics to DRASTICALLY cut their number of employees, then he did a lousy job with the first Bush and has always been a “bastard”–particularly a rat bastard.
Yes it is. For the love of God Montressor, vote third party!
It’s time for Dick Cheyney to move off the stage
Dear Dan,
And they say America doesn’t have kings and dynasties. My boss and I had the same conversation just the other day.
We’ll have a Clinton and an Obama in the White House. Clinton/Obama in 08. Mark my words. They don’t know it now, but it’s the best ticket for the party.
Michael F. Nyiri, poet, philosopher, fool
yeah, I think so.
no thank you, i’d rather have an aristocratic dynasty ruling my so-called democratic country.
obama ’08!
YES. I would personally rather not have Hillary in office. I would take her over ANY republican. Something needs to be changed so family dynasties don’t run our politics.
not only time turn the page…its time for the new chapter of the new page of the new book.
if it keeps Hilary out, yes. But not if the page-turner is Obama.
eh, I think with a democratic congress that it might be better to have a republican president to kepe things in balance. But I do not think the world would end if congress and the president were both democratic.
Daniel (doubledb)
let’s get a new book
barack obama is amazing. america must turn a new page. the clintons have too many cronies. down with hillary! vote for barack!
Sure.
Ha! I think the only “stable” thing during those 28 years was the name itself. This would fall back into the superstition category. If the people had different last names, we wouldn’t be calling it “stability”… Unless the people are worried the next president won’t initiate a war, have a sex scandal, and their children headlining the news with their intoxicated outings. But then again, that is stability in most of today’s dysfunctional families.
Pfft, people are too gullible. So worried about selling out the get sold in. Bah.
any clinton and bush would be “establishment” candidates. We need to end the monarchies that are in both parties.
Haha, I just read the comment from justtheway_youare “Half Honkey, All Donkey”. Oh my, that is so offensive it’s funny.
It is time to turn the page and smother all career politicians bringing in people who have no political experience to replace them. Something would probably actually get done in government if we did that.
Fuck yes.
Go Obama!
I should say so. I’m getting bored and I wasnt even alive for those administrations.
yes i think it’s time for change. i think we need to rid ourselves of the past. the bushes and the clintons… i think fresh blood and a new perspective would be good. i don’t know if any of the major parties could do that though because they are always trying to be the same.
I didn’t say he was… I said his FATHER was raised Muslim.
Let’s turn the page, but skip the chapter titled “The Rise of Obama”
YES, and its time to bring back all our men from Iraq !!
What we need to do is turn the page on not just our government, but our society. We need to change the way people think and act. There’s too much hate in the average person’s thought processes. For example, when we go to the polls, the majority of people are not voting for the candidate they think is best. They are voting against the candidate they dislike the most. We need to take all the government officials we have now and throw in completely new ones fresh out of the box.
Oh, wait. I forgot. We live in a world where every one wants weath and power. Nobody wants to give to others and only want to take. We will never be able to make this country what it should be. We’re all screwed and it’s all thanks to the people we believe in and trust to make this world a better place.
“not under Obama it isn’t”
“Yes it is. For the love of God Montressor, vote third party!”
I think I love you. XD
Stability? What stability?
A change is definitely needed.
If Jeb is elected I may move! I voted for both Bushes, both times, and I think they have done more harm to the country than any other pres.
yes.
I’m so conservative I make Rush look like a left winger and I can say, without hesitation, YES!!! Let’s just be sure and turn that page towards less government.
heck yeah! no more bushes
From the looks of the front running candidates, I don’t think I’m going to enjoy this book anymore.
Dan, It’s easier to let you think for me. If you vote for Obama, I will too!
We’re screwed no matter who we elect. Pick your poison mate.
“Institutions, Organisations, and Institutional Change” By Charles North – He won a nobel prize for it. Genius.
Yes, time for something new! Different than any of the Republicans or Democrats who have been in office lately. Back to a Constitutional form of government. I’m casting my vote for Ron Paul!
Check him out: http://www.ronpaul2008.com
I’m not liking anything the Democrats have to offer… Not too familiar with the Republicans either.
How ’bout you run for president, Dan? You’ve got my vote
I wish Powell would change his mind about running.
This whole thing is getting kind of icky! The country is in fact truly divided on this issue. I am a local campaign leader for the Obama camp BUT ONLY AFTER THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATING AND RESEARCHING all of the other candidates (both democrat and republican). I am afraid that he may not be elected on the basis of race alone. That will all but break my faith in the political organization of this country and Americans in general. We have become too polarized and I think it is time to look to a different way of electing our officials. Third party candidates don’t stand a chance against the “Big Two”.
Sure, but I’m not turning to Obama’s page. No way in hell.
We DO need to turn the page… but NOT to Obama!
RON PAUL FOR PRES!
we are still living in dynasties.. we just call them regimes now.. same thing. it is not that our policies haven’t changed, it is the people who hasn’t changed. they don’t feel safe to live through change, and to try out having a different leader brand name.
And did you know that Kerry is Bush’s cousin!!! yikes!
Lee Iacocca. He may be a bit elderly but still smarter then Dubya and Hill put together. Maybe he could get this country back on track? Or how about Fred Thompson? And Hey, he can act too! I would rather see one on them but if that cannot be… Barack has my vote. At least he will try and he will do the right thing, in my opinion. He is young and has plenty to prove.
He isn’t a Muslum even if his name is odd to you. We had a Catholic President and we never saw the Pope run things did we. What does religion matter in politics anyway? Does ANYONE remember seperation of Church and State????? Freedom of Choice? Any of that stuff? Oh wait…I’m old right? Or maybe it is because I READ??
Depends on which page….unfortunately I’m not happy about any of the choices.
Excuse me — you must not have gotten that yet — Yes it is time for that change. Please vote out of office a George W. Bush, (and do not vote into office, Hillary Clinton, please). Choose another.
Obama is trying to cash in on the fact that a lot of people don’t like the government. Well guess what? He’s no different.
Now, if he’s using “Turn the Page” by Bob Seeger or as covered by Metallica for his campaign, kudos to him.
I have to wonder how good of a job she can do, I mean if she is willing to look the other way while her husband ( the president), is committing adultry in front of the world.
What is she going to do when another country attacks us? Just a question….
