Condoms in Hotels
China has issued an order to all hotels to provide condoms in order to fight the spread of AIDS.
They have also ordered them in holiday resorts and public showers. Here is the link: Link
Do you think U.S. hotels should provide condoms in order to fight the spread of AIDS?

why not? does the world some good
sure
Why not? I think it’s definitely a good idea.
why not? I think its a good idea..
condoms are not going to stop AIDS, so no. it’s just a waste of latex. plus i think it just encourages people to have sex thinking they are immune to all the potential risks when that is far from the truth
the Trojan man lies- condoms are NOT full proof!
just because you provide it doesn’t necessarily mean they will use it…
what’s next?
government issued condom applicators, where government officials will sit in hotel rooms waiting to strap one on for you?
I’d rather my money buy that than pay for some presidential golf trip or something like that.
oh, and one more reason
who is going to pay for all those condoms? not my hard-earned dough, forget it!
sure…
we can’t pretend like humans aren’t sexual beings that have urges to be, uhhhh, sexual
They already provide the Bible. That should be good enough.
I wouldn’t oppose it but I am not sure I would support it either. It doesn’t seem like the Government’s job do such things.
Why not? That’s where the action is.
let’s put them right next to the gideon’s international new testaments
Sure.
When I was down in Florida, they had hotels that you could pay for by the hour. If you’re not having sex in those, then what are you doing? Lol
great question.
condoms should be provided but not in the room.
condom packages or boxes should be in the category where you call room service.
zao_tok
yep, and I think we should hand them out on planes, super-malls and amusement parks, too.
The last time I went to China, one of the hotels that I stayed at sold condoms and a vibrator at the mini-bar in the room.
I guess so.
I don’t know. I think by providing condoms that we would encourage the spearing of STD’s and pre-marital affairs along with a long list of other problems.
Oh Dont forget Dan, we need them in the airplane’s bathroom too.
yes, Its a good idea for the us to have them but most people are drunk so it probably wouldnt get used.
It would never work in the U.S. Somebody would get an STD or get pregnant and sue the hotel.
I agree with the comment above that they should be included in a room service package that you can order (and pay for), but it shouldn’t be required by law, because that’s just more constraints, rules and regulations on the business owner. The most frequent answer I’ve seen here is, “Why not?” But here’s why not: People need to take responsibility for themselves! It shouldn’t be the responsibility of hotel owners (or the government) to buy your condoms. . .Maybe they should send someone up to make sure you’re putting them on properly or make sure you’re wearing them at all. Government regulations generally tend to infringe on our liberty, not protect it. Visit RonPaul2008.com, if that makes sense to you.
I know, I know. I’ve turned into a Xanga whore.
couldn’t hurt but not a legal mandate from the government…
Makes sense.
Regardless of the aids thing.
if people go to hotels to have sex. . .a few condoms lying around wouldn’t hurt.
Might help prevent veneral diseases!
No.
If people are going to use condoms they’ll make sure they already have them.
We need to take responsibility for our own actions.
From what I hear condoms don’t do much for STDs anyway. But that’s just from what I hear..
dont like the idea, promotes promiscuity and does not mean STD’s wont be transmitted,
I don’t see any cons, so, why not? It can’t hurt.
Hell yeah, free condoms!
probably, but more to have fewer stains on the sheets than to fight AIDS.
That would be a great idea in concept but look at it this way. Health clinics give them out for free including college clinic. Aside from grabbing the guy and putting it on him, you can provide all you want, but people have to act in order for it to be effective.
Newsflash: China’s government didn’t pay for the condoms. The hotels do (They already buy them if they’re anything like the Japanese, what with their porn and beer vending machines)
Sure. It’s a good idea.
I don’t know if it helps in a huge way, but it seems like a good idea.
they should be offered in a package…but you shouldn’t have to pay for it. that would just discourage them from actually using them.
Good picture choice…hmmm. I would say the public showers is going a bit far. Would that not condone sex in public showers?
I agree with a commenter above that someone would get pregnant or get an std and sue the hotel.
Hell YES!
public showers..sick! Lets not give anyone ideas here…and yes…sounds like a good idea.
maybe just to fight the spread of accidental babies. But all around I think it is a great idea.
It’s a fine idea, but not great. The distinction between China and the U.S. is the accessibility of condoms. Whereas they may be harder to obtain abroad, there are more and greatly more acessible in the States. It would be meddlesom for the United States to pass such a policy as China’s.
you know, there’s something to be said for sticking to God’s commands and keeping to yourself until marriage. Then you don’t have to worry about AIDS, STD’s or anything else! Imagine that! but regardless, I don’t think it’s the government’s jurisdiction
Yes, please!
Hell yes. Historically, governments and churches have shown themselves to be more fascinated with the regulation of people’s sex lives than in any other area of human activity, despite the fact that their efforts have rarely been requested by widespread public demand, and have never achieved any area of human progress. This would help to achieve something useful.
Re your commentator who says “They already provide the Bible. That should be good enough” I really must protest. Paper is an abrasive material, unsuitable to be brought into contact with such scratchable things as eye glasses and willies. I am an engineer by profesion, and have researched the matter: it has to be folded to be so used, and the corners are unconfortable. It is also hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs moisture, which causes it to weaken rapidly, then tear.
Moreover, while I am no respecter of icons, I find it distasteful that people rampant with lust should be recommended to tear out pages of Proverbs in order to prevent Genesis, or in this suggested usage, AIDS.
I’m not against condoms and I’m all for people using them but there’s something disgusting about that picture.
I guess the more condoms around, the less likely AIDS is going to spread. Still though, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be VERY effective, and it will cost plenty of taxpayer money, if it were implemented in America.
But then again, the only effective method I can think of ending the spread of AIDS without a cure would be the immoral “Scarlet Letter” method. Everyone is tested, and those who are inflicted with AIDS are tattooed with a warning mark below the belt.
And obviously methods like that cannot be implemented.

the problem is abstinance is that not everyone believes in god or follows that. this doesn’t mean atheists don’t have morals because they do, but sometimes people actually DO love someone that they’re with and are fully committed to each other but are not the age to marry. even so, what about the people who are raped??? they didn’t choose for that to happen. this isn’t just about AIDS. it’s to be protected all around.
no, especially if they are on a rack like in that picture
sometimes dan,. your pics crack me up.
Daniel (doubledb)
thats a great idea!
andddd i agree the public showers thing is taking it too far.
they’ll charge extra for using the condom bar.
Nothing should be free.
People are going to have sex anyways, so why not help make it a bit safer. I dont know why anyone would object to this, especially in this day and age. It doesnt hurt anyone to have them available, and it will help everyone else who would use them.
Oh, and to the someone mentioned that HIV and STDs couldnt be stopped by condoms all together… Condoms prevent direct contact of bodily fluid to bodily fluids. While there is a 1% chance that the condom could break or not put on correctly, 99% of the time, it works. Condoms is one of the best ways to help stop the spread of HIV. And in countries like China and the US, condoms need to be readily available in places where there is a great possibility of sex happening.
Yes and teen pregnancies! Gosh, so many teens in high school go to hotels after prom… you never know how much that could change the world!
I can think of a few situations where that would have come in handy. Keeps the AIDS and the BABIES at bay…
thats a very good idea
it’ll be great..but at the end it’s the customers to decide to use it or not
ohh they could have condoms and other knick knacks as a part of room service. lol. hotels make more revenue and guests enjoy their stay.
Sure. It also prevents pregnancy and other stds.
*deletes everything she typed*
No. I don’t think they should have to by law.
F’ing A, Dan, F’ing A!
Yes they should be made available at such places. However, I don’t think it’s going to make that big of a difference on the AIDS epidemic. Condoms are available everywhere… Walmart, drugstores, convienent stores… everywhere. If the couple that goes to a motel or hotel to have sex doesn’t have one before hand then more than likely they are not going to use one once they are there in the room.
OooOooo…they actually have them in all those pretty colours? (I don’t really have a comment for this, I was just sidetracked by the picture-sorry)
Sounds like a good idea, why the hell not?
Might prevent some other things besides just AIDS as well!
Good idea, China. lawl
Oh, please, it wouldn’t really work.
Sure..every little thing helps.
For a fee… Why not?
Giving out condoms couldn’t hurt. Of course maybe not for free, cause that would just be something else us taxpayers would end up paying for. Maybe charge a quarter a condom or something! LOL
Flavored?
Or, we could be mature adults, and buy our own condoms, and make sure we wear them.
You fucking retards, take some responsibility.
Sure, why not. I guess it couldn’t hurt.
…but
Why the hell are they hanging from a string like that?
They are merely providing bandaids to open wounds, while ignoring the real issue – the thing that causes the wounds in the first place…
This is a stupid idea. The most successful anti-aids programs in Africa have been abstinence, not condom, based. It’s a sexually transmitted disease that condoms can’t always prevent.
they have them in hotels in Paris…
they give toothpaste and razors and shampoo…
so why not
Here I am. The annoying Catholic kid that comments a few days after everybody else. Yeah condoms are bad. They’re like evil. Birth Control is bad. Get married. That way you can have sex in your own house.
oh yeah. and public showers?
no
With the population growing faster and faster, we are going to have to step in soon and put limits on children. I think this is a great idea.
I actually think that’s a good idea. What can it hurt?? I can’t see the condoms encouraging sex anymore than 2 people being alone in a hotel room already would.
Sure, it would be kindof awkward if your kid stumbled upon them though. But yeah, AIDS is bad, why not help prevent it.
Bahaha, public showers.
I think that is an excellent idea. Condoms are the cheapest, and most effective way (outside of abstinence, which is an unfair expectation at best) of preventing the spread of most sexually-transmitted diseases, not the least of which is the HIV.
Awesome!
Oh, and you can’t sue a hotel for a condom breaking, just FYI.
“Why the hell are they hanging from a string like that?”
They’re there to dry :]
I think they should, condoms are so darn expensive. lol.
Without a doubt!
I think I’m stuck on the statement about the condoms being available in public showers.
Are the public showers coed there or are they just commonly used by the homosexual community for hooking up?
sure but i think people will forget to put them on anyway.
That just sounds stupid to me.
absolutely!
Why not?
No, they need more babies.
I think that they should be provided, but that taxpayers should not pay for it. I think that they should just raise the price to rent the room up ~ $1/night.
Also, I’m a bit sketched out by having them at a public shower…
Sure put them right next to the bible.
put them in a vending machine at the hotel … so if you want them, they’re there. but not free ones included w/ the room, because then kids will play with them, and put them on doorknobs or make condom balloons, or something ..
pretty bold step from china
It could be a good idea, hotels provide, soaps, shampoo, and lotion, why not a condom or two.
It still takes people using them.
There ought to be more free condoms available, consider the cost of condoms vs health care for people with HIV, children they cannot support, or other STDs.
But prudish conservatives would never let it happen.
I don’t think it’s a horrible idea. Quite sensible, really. Bathrooms have them, why not?
Yes, please. Three years ago during holidays the french distributed condoms with the coffee at their coastline Restaurants to remind people to use them. It was a huge success. In Brazil the local kids asked for special teenage sized Lubbers. Condomes should be available everywhere and their use should become essential. They will not increase the amount of activity, they are not a 200 % safe but they prevent spreading Aids. LOL about the suggested personal control of using them. FEDERAL CONDOM CONTROL knocking at your hotel door, having a close look and giving you a helping hand? Whaaaa!….
Have vending machines on every floor, with condoms as well as toothbrush & toothpaste. Soap optional.
’nuff said…
No bad idea!
Weird picture. They didn’t use, rinse, and hang to reuse…did they? And no…condoms aren’t expensive. Let them bring their own.
I am not sure. They might get sued if the condom did not do its job. Condoms are not 100% Then what, does the hotel help pay the child support? Plus it is too easy for someone on staff to mess with them. Plus how many should the hotel leave in the room for each night? And what if someone still gets a std?
That would be awesome. They should at least provide them in a vending machine… maybe in the same fashion that a mini-bar is provided. You pay for what you use.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea, but I agree with Anothermadhousewife, people should take responsibility for themselves and their own sexual health. If they are having sex, they should be able to buy their own condoms.
HELL YEA! BUT DONT FORGET THE MINT, TOO!!!
i say condoms for everyone!
Now I know what a condom looks like…
I think it’s a good idea.
ha what a convo
“hi room service?
yeah this is the guy in room 101…
yeah can u get me about eh….
maybe 2 condoms?…
yeah thanks…
what was that?…
size?…
eh idk ay babe wadya think…
eh ok
how bouta large…ok thanks c ya soon
bye bye”
….ew
If people didn’t go screwing around in the first place then they wouldn’t need condoms. Like, homosexuals. That’s not even right, and it should be illegal in my opinion. And people going around having premarital sex, that’s not right either. If people kept their pants on until they have a ring on their left hand, the world wouldn’t have these problems. If someone caught AIDS by some chance, the only people who’d get it is them and their spouse. None of this orgy-spreading around like drugs at a rave. People should be faithful.
And in my opinion, birth control is self-control. I believe in letting God decide if you get pregnant or not…and no I’m not a religious zealot, but I do believe that Jesus is in control of everything. And that includes whether or not the sperm make it to the fallopian tubes.
Sounds like a good idea to me!
Yes.
Also, preventing unwanted pregnancy.
emphatic no from me. that encourages extramarital/premarital sex which always causes problems.
Do I smell lawsuits ^_^ ? I think it’s a great idea, but I could see alot of people suing hotels if the condoms failed. Most hotels I know of have gift shops, or places nearby that people could buy things they feel they need for their stay.
I think it’s a great idea.
Sure. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I agree with Anothermadhousewife. It shouldn’t be required and people should take responsibility for themselves, but at the same time I don’t think it would hurt if it were made a courtesy like the mint on your pillow or something. every little bit counts. There’s no guarantee that they will be used, but at least they are available to those who wish to use them.
Sure. Won’t hurt.
We need condom machines in my high school. lol.
If I owned a hotel I’d do it. I don’t think it should be a government thing, probably a industry thing… It may attract more customers if they offer complimentary condoms XD just like the mints!!
I….guess it’s an alright idea.
The picture is really disturbing, it made me think that the condoms were used, then washed, and hung on a line to dry. Ick.
Why don’t we wait, see how things pan out in China, and if it works there, we can steal the idea?
Some of the comments here make my brain hurt. The question isn’t really whether people *should* be having sex. The question is whether hotels could (or should be required to) provide something as a courtesy to people who intend to have sex. Who could be against something that could very realistically save someone’s life? Y’all are nuts!
I’m not against it, but I’m not going to go campaigning for it. I do think it’s a good idea, though. Seeing the condom there might remind people to practice safe sex, I suppose.
Hell yes. In cereal boxes, in vending machines, in cracker jacks.
I don’t think it would be too bad of an idea…
They shouldn’t be mandated to. It’s their choice.
Haha, wow, yeah, I guess, that makes sense.
yes, but put it somewhere where adults would look and children wouldn’t.
i really don’t understand the logic of your commenters. since when does providing condoms increase sex? why else would you be in a hotel room with a lover??
I wish humanity could be responsible for it’s actions.
Have sex – consequences.
Don’t have sex – consequences. (Usually good consequences though)
Why do all of the people already suffering in China have to pay for them in hotels? Why should hotels feel they need to provide it? Are they feeling guilty?
Yes
