f1 help, and uh f11 maximize a page. and f8 passes my turn in gunbound.
yes i can
Not a clue…….
no…
first 5?!?
f5 refreshes…
I’ve got mine all reset from the window standard to obey my will.
Such as F7 is “block annoying people on IM who use ‘lol’ excessively”.
lol
Who can tell me what ALT + F4 does?
I have an F15 over here…
F1 helps, F5 refreshes, in IE F11 or F12 makes the screen way big. In Pinball F2 starts a new game, F3 pauses. Like Yohsiph said, alt+F4 closes the program.
I have an F15 over here…
I think F2 does something on startup. That’s all I know.
ummmm… i know that i can use F9 at work to exit out of things, but that’s about it.
No idea.
Aah I only know about f1 means help.. The others - nope..
Just curious… what could we possibly look at to help us out in this? It’s not like we’re picking out states on a map…
F1 is help. I think F12 is save as in some programs. F11 does something useful, but I can’t remember what for the life of me.
the f stands for function
F5 refreshes a webpage.
F12 doesn’t do anything by itself does it?
wow this is interesting. I don’t know any of them and I’d like to know
no
F7, spell check. alt + F4, exit program/window.
I don’t know why we even HAVE those buttons.
F12 on my mac pulls up my nifty weather, calendar, calculator widgets.
I have no idea but I do want to know though. I think F5 is turn on sound.
F1 means to Fuck Some1 up. F2 means to Fuck 2 Chicks.
Yes.
F5 is for refresh on the web, F4 is part of the alt-f4 window close macro. to me the rest are useless.
I think F9 can zoom in for certain programs… like Microsoft Publisher. F5 also refreshes the current page you’re on for Internet Explorer. And F4 can automatically highlight the Address bar (where you type in a URL to go to a website). F6 also does the same.
i have no clue !
F1- help f2- rename (in windows, no idea what it does in Linux, which I also use) f3-search (windows) f4-go to the address bar. f5-refresh. f6-I don’t know it’s actual purpose, but when my mouse broke it worked to jump between windows in IE. This was like, 3 years ago though. f7-Varies by program. f8-Change boot mode. I don’t think it has another purpose. f9-Also varies by program. f10-Menu f11-Makes IE full screen, no idea what it does elsewhere. f12-Varies by program. Nothing as far as I know.
and that, my friends…makes me feel like a geek.
F1 – help F2 – new game!!!! F5 – refreshes the internets F11 – maximize/minimzie F12 – save as
and I think I’m the only one to list them. yay.
ahhhh i did the alt and f4….stupid stupid stupid. haha.
but no I can’t.

Nicely done ol’ chap. Now you just won the N.E.R.D.S. highest award- El Geek Supremo.
^^^ By the way, that’s a compliment.
all I know is that F5 refreshes. I don’t really know what any of the others are for.. ? you should post them on your site, Dan. That would be handy to know.
F13 connects you to TheTheologianCafe’s page.
F9 and F10 do the same thing – they allow me to select which window I want. F11 shoves all my windows off-screen so I can see my desktop. My computer is under the belief that I want this to happen every time I press the button, accidentally (more often than not) or otherwise.
As someone stated before, the “F” stands for “Function”, denoting that each button is assigned a different script (to carry out a specific function). These can be modified in the “Keyboard and Mouse” system utility.
I haven’t used them in forever, so no.
Nope. I can’t.
All I know alt + F4 quits a window.
F5 is refresh
Hit Alt and F4 at the same time and it will open a mini game in your browser!
hmm…….. no idea…
I’ve only ever used the alt+F4….
those “F” keys…so allusive.
geesh all i know that f1 is help and f11 is big screen thing.. im not a computer wiz so sue me but i do know that alt f4 makes your computer run faster ^_^
I have absolutley no idea!
ickk..erm f5 refreshes ehhmm
Lol I don’t know all of them. F1 is usually a help button. F5 refreshes. F11 maxes the webpage. o.O
f5 is refresh.
No idea.
NOPE.
well, i know the alt f4 bit. but that’s it!
Nope!
it varies, depending on the program you are using. One of my games uses the function buttons for saving at a specific point.
All I know is that Alt+F4 closes a window… I think. I don’t know what the other keys do. Embarrassing, really, I’ve been using comps for years…
I don’t even know where to look for help with that question.
most of them make my computer give me an error message. I have a F13 key too. I’m scared to press it and find out what it does….
Then enable me to use the F-word in 12 different ways … just like the Valk.
F5 will refresh your browser page. GREAT for random pic generators, threads, and xanga sites!
How does one earn such greatness of the xanga world as Dan has achieved?
Nope. Not even one of them. Hahah
No. And I’m a professional computer programmer.
F1 = help, F5 = refresh, F12 = save. F10 = highlights the menu bar. Shift-F7 is the thesaurus and F7 is spell check in Word. Alt-F4 closes the active window. Thats all I know!
It all depends on the types of computers (Mac/PC/Linux) and programs.
F11=fullscreen…
NO
RYC: Thank you Dan, now if publix or some car wash down the street would support me I’d be in good shape.
No idea. None at all.
I only know what F U stands for.
No possible way!!!!!
f7 is spell check. too bad no one uses it.
Shift+F7 pops up a thesarus when you need a synonym for a certain word. That’s it. I don’t know the rest.
I never knew F6 took you up to the address bar… I always used Ctrl+L. Same for F3, I just always hit Ctrl+F.
Alt + F4 = Ctrl + Alt + Del
Nice try, TTC. It’s a trick question. F-keys depend on the app! F1 is generally help and F11 is ‘full screen’ mode which ppl should really use esp. when browsing.
Dan, you need to take a vacation from xanga. You have been working too hard…
I knew these when I was a kid, because sometimes our old computer (the green screen with DOS kind) wouldn’t work with our mouse… so we had to know how to get around manually.
But now I suppose I’ve been spoiled and forgotten.
im on a laptop, so mine adjust volume, brightness, keyboard brightness, num lock and uh….i dont know what F7 does
Alt + F8 will switch to the projector view if you have a projector attached to your computer. Just don’t forget that everyone in the room can see your screen and start checking your email.
F1 is help… and that’s about all I know.
Back in the days of using WordPerfect I might be able to but now, now freaking way. I’m a mouse user through and through.
Besides, who needs F-keys when you can right-click on anything?
Oh wow! I never touch those keys except F11 which makes the screen bigger.
Nope…never have.
F1 is help, F5 is refresh, dunno about the rest off the top of my head.
YES. FEATURED QUESTIONS.
or am I confused?
wait I guess I am since one else is saying that but the tags for features questiosn say what fq1 fq2. . .
so that’s what it stands for if you add the q. . .
F2 most certainly re-deals a new game of solitaire. other than that? nope.
It depends on what program you’re in. Alt + F4 generally closes your program though, regardless of what it is.
All I know is F1 is help and F5 refreshes.
yes.
What do you mean “without looking?” Is there some text on the keys that I’ve never noticed before? Now I think my computer must not be as cool as yours.
Okay, I couldn’t resist. I looked. My F1- F12 keys are very dusty. I’m thinking that whatever they’re used for must not be very important. And it’s time to clean my keyboard.
Hmm. I have no idea.
And guess what? I don’t give a shit.
ok, so why do computers still have function keys?
F3 is Find
one starts a fire and the other extinguishes it.
duh.
F5 refreshes, F10, F2 restarts the game in FreeCell, F10 undoes just one action in that game, too. Alt+F4 closes a window. I think F11 is makes the screen all huge and weird. F3 is find, but I’d prefer CTRL+F for find.
not sure
F3 pulls up the search bar, F5 refreshes the page, F6 highlights the url…

f1 through f7 dictates which wing mate you are talking to, then a series of 8 possible commands shows up as f1-8 and that is just for MechWarrior4.
