The Race
My son challenged me to a race today. He wants to race me one time around the park track. He is convinced that he will beat me. He is 13 and I am 35. I am 6’4″ and weigh about 250. It has been years since I ran this distance.
Last year, I tried to run around the block. I tired and stopped half way.
I remember my dad used to race me when I was a kid. He would always win. But then when I was about 12-years-old, I beat him. We raced down in front of a group of stores and I won. It is funny that all of these years later, I remember that moment.
My son today is under the impression that he will have one of those moments. He has been in basketball for a few years so he has to run during the season. He is one of the faster kids in basketball.
I have always been sort of slow. So today will pit old against young.
Who do you think will win?

Him
him.. haha.. sorry dan
the young’un. it’s inevitable.
Not you Dan. Not you.
aww, shucks, don’t ya hate when your ae catches up to ya?
probably your son
def. your 13 yr old.
they have bountiful energy!
whoever has the pace…
Oh, Dan… Does your son know CPR? Just curious; it has nothing to do with your question. Nothing at all.
oh this reminded me of the time i raced against my cousin who’s 15
(I’m 22) and she left me coughing and weezing >.<
i think you answered your questions yourself already =P
your son’s going to eat your lunch and make you like it
no offense though, dan
I ran 20 miles today.
sorry Dan but it seems it will be he who shall have that moment.
aw, Dan…this one goes to your boy. Today he will be The Man. ;]
Sorry Dan, I always hope the kid will win.
You can do it Rock! You’ll be eatin’ lightin’ and crappin’ thunder!
It’s easy, I will win!
Your son.
sorry dan, but it’s all your son this time.
today is my b-day and according to my kids, I am now quite old…not quite medicare, but almost. so let me take this moment to remind you that old age and trechery can overcome youth and skill any day. think about it dan.
I’m rooting for you, Dan.
i’m thinking that 13 is too young to finally beat your dad. the time for fair play is over dan, do whatever you have to
your son.
Your son is gonna whup ya.
Your son and it will be a great moment for him also! Nice of you to let him have it!
probably him..
but anything can happen!
You’re both losers.
Son, definatly. Sorry Dan.
Your son is going to kick your booty. Be prepared to give up bragging rights for the rest of your life…
Naturally him..
It’s over for you.
My father was a sprinter in his day, I never could beat him. The man was lucky he did not produce a son
I suspect you could easily beat Yohsiph.
It depends how stubborn and competitive you are. If you are, then you will win. You might not be able to walk for 2 days following.
Perhaps you should postpone the race for a couple weeks and work out some?
Sorry, your son.
Well unless your lieing to us about your physical fitness your sons going to win.
Probably you but I hope your son is going to win. Will you tell us the result?
I would have to say that your son will win, hands down…

Granted that I run, swim, and lift twice a week as a requisite for being of being a lifeguard, I’d say you’re full of shit.
your son will…sorry man. I usually beat my dad running. Actually, I threw him once too, but that’s a different story entirely.
I think your son will win. Good luck to you anyway.
Sorry, but your son will probably win–get out there and walk and run Dan!!
My daughter’s bf’s mom has been attacked, robbed and possibly raped, please keep Patty in your prayers!
Yohsiph
No I fairly certain you’re a wimp, and if not a total wimp, without a doubt you are an asshole.
I was lifeguard back in high school, so you’re not all bad.
Your boys gona own you… but good.
Your son! Sorry Dan….even though you are ONLY 35 (for some reason I thougnt you were in your 40′s….) I think he has a great chance….I know how it is. I am sure my kids, of any age, would beat me in a race to the garage. Let us know!
not you! haha….
sorry.
no offense… but not you, haha
You both win for being such loving son and father.
Your probably goimg to get your butt beat!!!! I love hugs.

You trifling bitch, please cite where I claimed to be a badass.
I said you were full of shit for claiming that he could beat me, because in addition to his physical appearance, he’s admittedly out of shape.
Your son… sorry about that.
hmmm
well., you have been losing weight. Getting in shape, right?
I have faith in you Dan.
lol, I’m so used to you putting up links. . .this entry has no need for links. . .
i hate to say it dan, but you’ve pretty much admitted it — your son’s going to win.
Thirty-five is still pretty young, Dan, so I wouldn’t give the nod to your son just like that. But considering he does a lot more running than you do, and you got tired just from going ’round the block, I have a feeling he’ll take the day … unless you use your crafty ole brain and trip him at the starting line.
=)
Here’s a smile to cheer you up after the race.
Hi, we are SKNY! challenges, we are just opening registration for our next challenge [Skinny By Haloween '07.] If you would like to join, please stop by and fill out a registration form, if not then thanks anyways!
-skny challenges.
your son, unless you decide you really want to try to win
gotta give it to the young legs. Sorry man. Kids have energy beyond all.
Dan your son is going to own you.
he will. sorry to break it to you. (I guess alot of others have as well.)
I think it’s a sure thing your a goner. RYC: OMG your right!
I- I HAVE FAITH IN YOUUUUUUUUUUUU- *cries*
oh Dan, dude, you’re goin’ DOWN!!!!
I will.
I was going to make a Chuck Norris joke, but I think the moment has passed….
I suggest you trip him.
Your son.
But don’t feel bad; I doubt I could run around the block either.
If there were blocks were I live.
Don’t lose Dan. Just cheat. Maybe you can trip him or sabotge his shoes with thumb tacks.
Hmmm, I’m putting my money on your son. (:
Haha, my dad is WAY faster than me. Or maybe he’s just in better shape than I am. He just did a sort of relay race for some fundraiser thing. He ran 8km. I have trouble doing one lap around the soccer field without my throat burning.

Um, Dan… by now if you’ve run the race you have no doubts. Knowing my J, at 6’4″ and about 275… *I* can outrun him…
ha, sorry Dan, I think he will win. Now if he was like 8 years old you might still win, might
I’ll root for you Dan because I don’t like kids. =D
Your son!
Your kid.
Out w d old. My dad was a boxer. N d day came when i landed more punches than him. Please tell us wht u feel as u r chokin on his dust.
ne chance u can hire a stunt double? If not, ur going down.
The Tortoise did win when he raced the Hare… Anythings possible…
I think you will let him win just so he can feel that great feeling.
Push him down and win. He is trying to exert dominance over you and claim that he is superior. Would he really want to race you if he knew he couldn’t win?
no contest! reminds me of a few years ago when I went up to a mountain lake with a group of friends. all the group made it up in an hour or so…except for three of us who took two and a half hours: poky me, and two nurse friends who stayed with me! (embarrassing) but I was the second one down, in only 45 minutes! maybe you just need a downhill course…
Well, if you haven’t run in a long time . . . and you get winded around the block . . . sorry, my man, I think your kiddo will beat you. You can always start running and get in better shape and then demand a rematch. It may be more fair than this one will be.
Given the way you framed the post, it looks like the son is the favorite. I think you’re playing him up so you can have the underdog win.
In a sprint, I’d think you’d have him. I’m guessing endurance will be your greatest weakness.
The Father our God will help Dan, Jesus will help your Son, and whoever gets help from the Holy Spirit will ultimately win.
kidding of course.
You’re going down, man. It’s inevitable.
Sorry.
Your Kid…I am only 21 and could barely run a mile today…I am THAT out of shape.
I would normally say the adult will win but since you sound like you have not confident beating your son, I think he will win.
I think you’re going down, Mr. Theologian.
my money’s on the kid.
well based on the fact you got stuffed and couldnt finish runnin round the block last year (and pressumin you havent been trying to get fitter since) my dibs are on your son. with that said, let’s just hope your larger adult stride will give you the lead
Wow. If you’re 35, then your main picture doesn’t really resemble your age…
He will win the race, but both of you win really
, you will be spending time together ^_^.
If you enjoy winning all the time, I would start training. I’ve heard of guys who have small “mid-life crisis” because their son or daughter beat then in an activity. It stings…
It’s good for you anyway. Besides the obvious health benefits, it really graces the aging process. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a poster boy for this.
