$100,000
Bernard Salcedo found $100,000 in his attic.
Scott Quinn was living in the house and was stabbed to death. He was separated from his wife Lana Quinn. Lana Quinn bought the house two months after he was killed. She then sold the house to Bernard Salcedo. Here is the link: Link
Lana Quinn believes the money belongs to her. Bernard Salcedo believes he should get the money.
Who should get the money, Lana or Bernard?

The dude who owns the house.
Holy cow I was 1st on Dan’s site. The Xanga Gods are smiling down on me today.
bernard
omg 2nd!
damn. definately bernard
wow. 2nd (3rd if you want to be that techincal) I’m proud. very proud.
Wow^^^^^
I’ve never gotten that excited for getting first or front page. But whatever gets you through your day… or… I’m actually still profound people are still excited by that.
Wow, people are incredibly retarded if they care that much about numerical placement.
As for the money; guy who found it. He found it for fuck’s sake! She moved out. End of story.
Word Wildlife Fund. St. Jude’s. Unicef. Oxfam.
i could go on.
world*, not word. my bad.
The current owner.
It wouldn’t be different than someone leaving Christmas decorations in the attic after the close of the sale. Except you’re butt-loads richer now than if you’d found some lights.
The current owner.
If I ever found 100,000 nobody would ever know.
A sale means that that it’s sold. No longer yours. The money is for the new owner. Although were I in that position, I might play the good samaritan and give back at least some of the money. Her husband was fucking stabbed to death, after all.

^I’m with Miguel.
Bernard.
It’s easy to say he should keep it, but i’d be pretty damned mad if I were the previous owner in that case– the money obviously isn’t his. But then again, whose to say it’s hers either?
And why in bloodyHELL did he decide to tell the world about his attic findings??? See, people talk too much.
He was separated from his wife at the time of his death, so he was obviously hiding it from her. She bought and sold the house. I think it’s the new owner’s money.
its bernards
bernard! for sure
Bernard, he owns the house now and anything in the house would now be his property. Besides if he hadn’t found it no one would even know it was there.
berny. if he bought a property and discovered that it was tied to a debt, the debt would have legally belonged to him. in this case, it’s the opposite but the same legal concept applies.
If Bernard is honest, he should give it to Lana. He knows, after all, that it is not his. If she offers hims a reward or something, that would be really nice. If she can afford to do so, it would be really nice to split it with him. But, ultimately, it belongs to her.
If she knew he kept money hidden like that, she should have looked better before selling. Obviously they didn’t check the wiring in the attic, or they would have found it. Hindsight is always 20/20, and it usually burns.
Legally, when Benard bought the house, he also bought all of the remaining contents. Anything that was left whether known or not, is considered part of the estate. The money belongs to him now.
zOMG 28th!!
He should get it.
If I left $100,000 somewhere I think I’d remember.
it’s his.
She sold the house, meaning everything in the house. Too bad!
I agree with what someone said, if I found $100,00 NO ONE would ever know
$100,000
Bernard. She should’ve looked harder. And do we really know if her dh hid it? Could’ve been the owners before?
Bernard – he found it, after all. Finders Keepers. It’s not like she was in that house for years and had put it there and forgotten it.
Lana Quinn should get her money back. Bernard knows it belongs to her and it had been inadvertently left behind. Should he keep it then it is “legal” stealing, however, it is still stealing.
Ask any kindergardener, they’ll tell you what should be done.
Bernard, he bought the house and bought everything that was in the house.
I want to feel bad for her, but if you accidentally left behind $100k that was yours in your old attic and then sold the house, then… well… I don’t know what to say to you. If the money is new and she wasn’t aware of it before at all, then it’s his property now, and belongs to him (it could have been hidden in thr house even before Lana or her husband owned it, who knows).
Bernard, for sure. I read the story and he contacted police because he didn’t know where the money was from, got scared and wanted to make sure it wasn’t a reason for or evidence of a crime. He did the right thing, he found the money in the first place and as far as I’m concerned he should keep it, if he wants to. (I don’t know if I’d want to, something tells me the money wasn’t exactly obtained legally in the first place and who wants to keep all that when everyone knows about it?) But if he wanted to be kind to the widow, he could offer her a portion of the findings… it looks like she’s offering him the same thing, depending on who wins in court.
finder’s keepers, loser’s weepers.
I would think that whoever bought the house now owns everything left in it. We found stuff in our attic when we bought our house, too, but nobody wants to fight us over a bunch of old picture frames and curtain rods.
Benard… he ownes the house and was the one who found the money.
I wonder about the details of the house purchase. It seems reasonble to assume that the transfer of property during Bernard’s purchase of the house would include everything of and in the house: Whether it be the house’s windows, insulation, or loose objects left in it.
If Lana knew about the money, she should have delayed or decided against the sale of the house. She sold it, so now: too bad.
Bernard
bernard.
he bought the house.
anyways, lana should have checked the attic before she left.
Bernard.
Even after reading the article I still think it belongs to the man who found it. It is quite obvious that the money did belong to Scott Quinn given the way the money was packaged, however since the house was sold all the proerty left belongs to the new owner. Too bad for Mrs. Quinn.
Bernard should get the money since he is the legal owner of the house. Lana has no legal positions on the house or the contents after she sold it.
There was money found in the house by police; they gave it to her but she was the legal owner of the home at that time.
“Possession is very strong; rather more than nine points of the law.” — Lord Mansfield (1774)
I’d say Bernard.
The perfect scenario would be that both would be gracious and split the money. 50/50.
But in reality, who is going to be so nice?
Definitely the guy who owns the house. When she sold the house to him, she lost possession of everything contained within once the paperwork was signed.
Dang. That’s a tough one. I would say that technically the money would belong to Bernard, but that the honest thing to do would be to give the money to Lana, since she didn’t intend on leaving it in the house.
Me. I should get the money. I’m positive I left it there.
Why the hell did he publisize that he found it?
By law, once you sold the place, everything on the place isnt your anymore unless it is in writing. So, if it is not in writing, it is Bernard. Period!
Separated from his wife when he was murdered. Seems he did not want her to have the money or she would have known about it.
So if instead of money he had found termites, would she be claiming that they were her responsibility as well?
it is his money, sorry girl, it was money that was never yours anyway
bernard. it’s not his fault lana’s too stupid to notice $100,000 in her attic.
bernard.
finders keepers
if the husband wanted to give the money to his wife, she’d already knew about it. but she didn’t.
she already sold the house to Salcedo. finder’s keeper!! loser’s weeper!!
whatever the phrase =P
Bernard.
They’re going to spend a good chunk of that on lawyers if they can’t agree. It seems like Mr. Quinn was a running some sketchy business for sure.
bernard gets the money because it was in his house
Bernard because that’s a great name
Finder’s, keepers! Anything within that property belongs to him after HE bought that house.
I guess she should have searched the attic huh? Losers weepers; finders keepers, as the old saying goes.
Bernard. As nearly everyone has already mentioned, he owns the house, and therefore anything that was left in the house.
whomever scott’s will left his monetary assets to.
my house = my money
Easy. Bernard. He was stupid for even letting anyone know, too. Dummy.
They should split the money.
my grandpa alway used to say that possesion is 9/10ths of the law, so i would go with the man who now owns the house and found it.
It simply comes down to signing the contract. When he bought the house they both agreed to whatever contents (unless specified) were in the house would go to the new owner. Obviously, the money was not specified, so the gentlemen is the owner.
Well, the right thing to do is for Bernard to give the money back to Lana. It’s like dropping your wallet/purse somewhere and somebody found it. The founder of the wallet/purse would do the right thing by finding the the owner. And if I were the owner of the purse, I would reward the founder for getting my purse back to me
I say, they should split!!!
It sucks to say… sorry lady, he found it.
He owns it in my opinion. But, I agree with others, I would never have announced it to the world. I would have just deposited it in small amounts and taken lots of vacations!
Bernard should get it, it is his house. If Lana LOOKED in the attic before she sold the house, then she would have gotten the money.
A better question is why did he tell anyone he found the money? By the time the state taxes him for it, it’s not worth it. And he should get the money, it wasn’t hers to begin with and he owns the house, possesion is 9/10th’s of the law right?
eh, i’ll be an odd ball- Lena…
If the woman could explain it with a credible and verifiable story, I’d maybe be somewhat interested in hearing her out. However, I’m strongly leaning towards the homeowner with the details given.
Bernard.
If $100,000 of My money was missing… I would tear through every inch of that house until i found it.
What bout gold claims?
People buying land thinking that their is gold in them, not finding gold, selling the land… adn then the buyiner strinking it rich for looking in another part of it….
I don’t see how that is anydiffrent then this.
Score one for bernard.
split it
Bernard. He purchased the house “as-is”. You can’t go back after the house is sold and say, “Ooops, I wanted the stove, dishwasher and garbage disposal”. Whatever was left in the attic is assumed to be part of the “as-is” clause of the sale. Sorry Lana, you didn’t look in the attic for anything … therefore, you get nothing.
Bernard
Bernard Salcedo is probably entitled to the cash. The apparent original owner is dead, and his widow bought and sold the house after his death. If the house was sold as is, then there is no question about ownership. But my question is how long after the how was sold to Bernard was the moeny found. If he found it right away, a case made that it was accidently left behind; but if a sufficient amount of time had passed, all rights should go to the current owner.
too bad for lana, bernard owns the cash !
Legally – the one was is in possession of the house. Morally – the rightful owner. We live in a really old house. We were going through the attic several months ago and found extrememly old toys. -probally 50 years old at least. Needless to say it was probally worth a lot of money. We gave it all back to the original owners.
I believe that he purchased the house and, at least in Indiana, she has around 30 days to claim her possessions from the house… So if it has exceeded that allotted amount of time, then the money is his! Great investment for him! lol
If I had to pick between the two: Lana.
Wow. Sucks to be her, but that money is his. Same as if the house had been infested with termites. Those woulda been his bugs, so that’s his moolah. Lana, next time, check all cupboards and attics for large satchels of cash before you sell your place.
bernard
According to law it’s his – it was in the house when he bought it so by rights he own it. The money wasn’t hers at all, but her husband’s money – whom she was separated from anyhow. And no I don’t think he should give her any of it.
bernard! she divorced the guy that originally owned it before dying anyways
How could you forget 100,000 dollars hahahahahahahaha
you should check your house for all items before you move out. If you leave it, it is sold with the house.
Lana. She didn’t sell the house knowing that money was there and he didn’t buy the house knowing it was their either. Legally, it belongs to her in my opinion, because it is a separate entity from the house…and it’s mere co-incidence that it is inside the house.
If Bernard is awarded the money, and keeps it, he’s just an asshole.
You snooze you lose. He should get the money.
how about they split it, but legally, Salcedo gets its because it is now his house.
