  • Ads

I was watching Grey’s Anatomy tonight.  The main problem I had with the program was they kept interrupting it with all of these ads.

I could understand a commercial at the start of the program and a commercial at the end.  But it crosses the line to put a commercial in the most dramatic part of the show.

New Google software could make mobiles cheaper

I guess my main concern was about the integrity of the show.  How could the actors be trusted when they were relying on sponsors so heavily?  How could we be sure that the show was not being corrupted by cooperate interest.

    Gorgeous Google phone! Ooooh!...

I just had to turn off the TV and play with my new Google Android OS.  It was the only thing that I knew was reliable.

Is it me, or does it feel like every one else is selling out?

  • FIRST! hell yeah. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Internet!

  • But you’re not selling out to Google of course

  • Nice satire. *thumbs up*
I have developed a new respect for you, Dan, because of this post.

  • it does kinda feel like that actually

  • YOU’RE LYING, GREY’S ANATOMY IS LIEK AMZINGINGN1!!1

  • well, except for you of course, dan

  • awww….i love greys!

  • I think anyone who does public anything sells out one time or another.

  • Haha.

It does seem like everyone is selling out. *sigh*

  • Wow, someone actually cared about being first. Fucking loser.

What is up with the ads on this site?

  • screw them! screw them all!!

the future doesn’t look too bright. I bet some idiots going to buy the sky one day. Then there will be permanent advertisements on the street sidewalks.

    man i’m tired

  • and whats up with these ads!

  • The people who are most bitter about sell outs are those who don’t have the opportunity to.

  • money corrupts if not realized it is just paper.

  • The Google ads on your Xanga always seem to show up at the most dramatic parts – inbetween your weblogs lol

  • :/ there seems to be a lot of Google ads on your page too Dan. I guess my main concern is about the integrity of your blog! ^__^

  • You crack me up, Dan. Thanks for a much needed laugh. What’s up with your xanga tv? I must have missed the info on that.

  • I don’t bother watching tv anymore these days. I HATE advertisements. I just watch everything online without the interruptions of the ads :)

  • I admit, commercials are annoying.  But I’m glad you haven’t sold out to advertising, Dan.

  • Yeah, the world is selling out… but I’ll gladly jump on the bandwagon for Grey’s Anatomy

  • On a completely unrelated note, today India celebrates Diwali – the festival of lights.
    Happy Diwali :)

  • hahahahaha……… google…………… ads……. nice. very nice.

  • There’s nothing noble about being poor. Whatever brings in the money, do it and screw the consequences or any stupid moral controversy.

  • Lol, smart ass.

At first I didn’t get the Google thing right at the beginning. I was thinking “What? Were they running ads for Google or something?” But aha….I caught on. It just took me a bit. I’m a natural blonde and it seeps through time to time.

And yes, everyone and everything is selling out. Where ever you turn there is an ad for something. Everywhere! Buses, trains, tv, radio, internet, billboards (sidenote on billboards: the ones that piss me off the most are the ones that advertise alcohol. Drinking and driving! yay!) …I’m surprised big corporations haven’t started physically marking new borns with their logo, to have a walking (or crawling rather) billboard. It gets sickening after a while, really. Everything in our society just screams “BUY THIS!” “GET THIS!” “GET EM WHILE YOU CAN!” “YOU WON’T BE COOL IF YOU DON’T HAVE THIS!” “GIRLS WON’T LIKE YOU IF YOU DON’T HAVE THAT!”

    America, the shopping mall.

George Carlin’s “Advertising Lullaby” is really good. Listen to that. Hey! Better yet! Buy it on Itunes!

  • You know speaking of ads, i was meaning to ask you the other day, why do you have Google ads on your page? Is that a widget or what?

RYC: I have to agree with you. Anna K and Charlize (Charlize especially) are very attractive women.

  • I watched Grey’s.  I don’t remember these ads, but that’s not saying much… I have CRS.  LOL

  • Oh my Dan…get a life.

  • HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I found it very ironic how you have google ads right underneath your post.

  • amusing end to a thursday night!  :)

  • Sellouts suck!

  • It’s not just you, everyone’s selling out.

Even my school has sold out—on the back of some of our t-shirts there’s an advertisment for a car insurance company. Geez…

  • I can’t believe I’m actually agreeing with Single4Eternally.

Quit wanting every goddamn thing for free you hippies.

  • They have a new phone now? go wonder. Yep ads are most annoying. Go watch youtube…ad free when streaming stupid kids hurting themselves…nothing good to watch there…where to watch…hmmmm

  • Did you read my newest post? This is oddly coincidental…
    -David

  • I think they sold out a long time ago, and now I’m thinking Dan is selling out, too….

Did you buy stock in Google?

  • Clearly I missed the commercial for the google product, looks neat. Anything google does is cool it seem.

  • Wow, Dan The Theologian himself uses the amazing new Google Android OS. If Dan trusts the new Google Android OS then it must be one swell device. With amazing new features and an easy to use interface, the new Google Android OS provides successful living solutions for just about everyone. I think I’ll go out and buy mine today and be one of the first to successorize with the new Google Android OS, the smart choice in personal digital assistant devices.

  • but you sir, have ads as well. =]

  • But aren’t we all sell outs? You, for instance did an ad for Google wether or not it was your intention. And by mentioning that you were watching Grey’s Anatomy is also another, more subtle one. The mere fact that you mentioned these things makes you a sell out too. It’s not your fault.

  • If you could get 200 dollars a month from the hits your google ads get from your site, then GOD YES, DO IT.

200 bucks is a nice night out with the family, movie and dinner for everyone.

    I don’t mind.

  • Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is trying to grab whatever floating buck is out there.  They are all worried about the upcoming season – as well they should be.

My only question is who does this advertising benefit?  Xanga or you, Dan?  Is the pressure on to advertise on your site?  Has your blog hit the “I need to advertise on your site” mark?  Interesting.

  • yes

  • The term “is selling out” is not befitting what you attempted to write.  It’s the wrong tense.  ‘SOLD OUT’ is more accurate.  It’s the seduction to wealth.

  • no, you’re right.
TV stations don’t even care about us as viewers, they care about us as consumers.
    welcome to capitalism!

  • Your Hilarious!  Selling out, who isn’t to a a certain degree.  But as usual you make me think!

  • “For what doth it profit a man…”

Hilarious, Dan. Now that you showed you are still witty, get rid of the f****n ads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you know where I stand, Dan.

Keeping ads limited is a good thing…but can be necessary if one is to make time online worth it.

  • Yeah, people are selling out

  • Seller outer!!!

  • You say after inserting all the Google ads. Pfft!

  • I have never seen Grey’s Anatomy other than bits and pieces.  The ads sure are annoying though.

  • RYC: Um, Dan, heard of the subway? No college student here has a car Public transitin’ like intoxicated.

  • Yes, everyone is selling out. My husband and I watch The Biggest Loser, and it’s so stupid and fake when they are like “Let’s talk about breakfast.  These oatmeal people have this weight control oatmeal, and here is the package, and it is so good!” And “When snacking on an airplane, be sure to bring these 100 calorie packs! Think purple!”  That just makes everyone look even siller.  Come on, people.

  • Remember the scene from Wayne’s World?  Reebok, Pizza Hut, Pepsi, Myoprin.  Funny stuff.

  • That’s why I Tivo and then fast forward through the ads. Here…well…you just have to ignore them.

  • Frankly, the only reason TV survives is because of the media. And the only reason we pay attention to the media is because it is shoved down our throats. Go figure.

                        – Kare

  • I get what you are saying, here, but I really just want to say that I am very disappointed in Grey’s Anatomy this season.

  • To say nothing of the Google ads, my ‘cynical’ friend!!

  • youuuuu…little…

  • This reminds me of Wayne’s World.

    You’re a clever one, Dan.

  • Since xanga has gone all super-ads, I’ve considered leaving it.
Same with Facebook, they’re posting more and more stupid over the top ads, and it just makes me want to leave the service, not use it.

  • OMG, what is that google device. Me want! :)

    *easily distracted, who cares*

  • All the television shows have.  They all put ads right at the most dramatic parts in an effort to up the suspense or make you keep watching or some such s***.

  • Loved all your little ads, Dan.

  • Buy, buy, buy help keep the world spinning! Oy vay.

  • “Selling out” constitutes compromising your morals or values to gain something. I don’t know if having constant ads on tv is “selling out,” but it can sure be annoying.

  • Cooperation don’t care if they are selling out as long as they get their check in the mail.

  • Shows selling out to corporate interest!? GASP! Unheard of!

  • First of all Grey’s OMFG an amazing show.  Secondly they put comercials in during a dramatic moment because they are bitches like that, its always been like that not just greys but with any cable television show. I don’t think its so much as the show is currupt but its a practical joke from the big haunchos at the network—they like to toy with our emotions. jk. But any show does the exact same thing.  If they go to comericals after the point of climax no body would see the comericals, the advertisers would lose money and our economy would indirectly suffer because viewers would skip around to different channels like a child with bad ADD. No body likes comericals, espcially when the volume of the comerical is louder than the show itself and you have to adjust the volume, its just a smart thing to do going to a comerical at the point of climax, it ensures that ratings wont drop and viewers will wont surf around when the show comes back on. On another note, Im disapointed with this season. Not much of a story at all.

  • What’s with the google ads on this site?

  • 30 Rock had an episode mocking product integration. It was hilarious. They just kept talking over and over again about how great their Snapples were.

  • You have finally given in to Ad-Sense.

  • Lose the ads, Dan.

It’s like a Macy’s giftcard thing at every turn, just on Xanga.

  • It does seem that everyone is selling out, as I note the plethra of ads on your site. It makes me not want to visit your site anyone.

  • Sponsorship has even reached the schools. Yes, everyone sells out.  Pretty soon there will be a drink coke sign in front of the judge at county court.

  • You are too funny sometimes.

    =]

    [and yes.]

  • Well, what’s GooGle for the Goose is GooGle for the Gander, eh? Of course it is. We just gotta remember that our GooGle economy is a GooGle consumer driven economy! Isn’t that just GooGle ?!

And kids don’t forget to guilt trip your parents into taking you to Disney World!

That’s all I have to GooGle about the matter!

  • Xanga’s selling out.
