Distracting Haircuts
This is Eric Davis II.
He is a 4-year-old from Houston who was sent home from school because his haircut was considered distracting. It is labeled a mohawk but is just a shade longer than his hair on the side. Here is the link: Link
Do you think Eric’s hair is distracting?
Comments (168)
…No.
It’s hair.
how can hair be distacting?
okay, well. let me put it this way. it’s not a fuckin’ neon pink mohawk.
…. what? Sorry. I was looking at his hair…
Seriously, though, no, it’s not distracting. If it was considered as such, perhaps we should all be bald, no?
absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see nothing wrong witht he above. If that is distracting I wonder how many other pre-schoolers will be getting sent home from there as well?
That looks like a great cut……………man……….what is going on?…….
uhhhh no. that is pretty lame, stupid whatever. lets support the idea of clones, we are all going to be obligated to wear uniforms at all times soon, state sanctioned ones maybe!
not his
No. But wondering if you will get kicked out because of your hair must be distracting.
Wow, rebel rebel.
naw
even if it WAS a mohawk, black people’s mohawks take so much more than that to be distracting.
No. I think five people at my school just got a real Mohawk in the weekend.
No, I think it looks nice.
so *that’s* how you spell brouhaha
oh GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ and I live in Houston… oh the HUMANITY!!! this is LUDICROUS!!!! I oughta give my son a MOHAWK and see what happens!!!
That doesn’t deserve a “mohawk” label… ridiculous. A situation of another institution screwing things up.
Wtf? How is that distracting?
Sounds to me like someone doesn’t like the little black kid.
AH just read that he’s from the KLEIN district! I’m in THE WOODLANDS which is in SPRING, which is also where Klein district resides. CRAZY! I really AM CONSIDERING GIVING MY SON A TRUE MOHAWK JUST TO SPITE THEM! lol
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read – of course it isn’t distracting.
Even teachers want in on school drama.
#1: I think that looks like a very nice and classy haircut.
#2: That is NOT a mohawk. Geesh.
Ridiculous, that is all.
No, wtf?
It looks a whole lot like a military haircut. They don’t come more conservative than that.
Ridiculous!!
You cant even tell it’s a mohawk at all. Dumb asses.
No. Wtf is wrong with it? HE’S 4. IT’S HARMLESS.
That is stupid. There are children with REAL mohawks that I used to have to have hair safety lessons.
does it smell?
… lame. no.
Who wants to kick that school’s administrators’ asses?
*raises hand*
Good Grief! There is nothing wrong with that boy’s hair. In fact, it reminds me of a military haircut. This school doesn’t know what a real mohawk hairstyle looks like if they think this boy’s hair is a mohawk.
seriously, i think not.
No, many little boys i know have that haircut. i don’t find that distracting, its actually kinda cute.
That’s one of the LEAST distracting haircuts I’ve ever seen in my life.
That video up at the top left is more distracting if you ask me.
-David
NOOOOOOO. ITS CUTE.
what is up with all these stupid school regulations?? oy! more and more i’m liking the idea of homeschooling my children so they don’t have to deal with crap like this- grr!
no, his hair is far from distracting. it would be one thing if he a cuss word carved into the back of his head or something, but that’s hardly even noticeable.
uh……. WHAT?!?!?
I bet if I went to that school I could find more distractions than that young boy’s hair!
not at all… and I’m usually kind of strict about these things
People are fucking stupid. Leave the kid’s hair alone. Maybe if his hair was distracting, the kid who was distracted needs to be tested for A.D.D.
It is not distracting at all.
Is that really the school’s biggest problem?
not THAT one. some hairstyles are disracting but def. not tha one!
First off, no. Second, that is far from being a mohawk.
No! It’s a nice clean cut!
this is why i hate people. how ridiculous can we get?
um. no.
To quote John McEnroe – YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS!
After just being around a guy with a bright orange mohawk the size of Montana….no.
No. It doesn’t even look like a mohawk.
Obviously these people have never seen real mohawks. I think his hair looks just fine!
ryc: Good luck! Hope the visit goes well.
that’s not distracting at all! Were they being racists?
You have got to be kidding me.
Double you tee eff??
I hardly think so. How could other four year olds possibly be paying attention to their classmates hairstyles? his haircut is quite nice, actually.
That is asinine, plain and simple. On a bad air day my hair is what you call distracting!
Thanks for stopping by,I am well, working hard to get the show o the road.
I have never been distracted by hair or clothes or anything like that
…wow.
if that’s considered a mohawk, and my school acted along the same guidelines, half of the student body would have been kicked out by now.
that’s so extreme.
Aww, I think that’s such a cute haircut!
It looks like every haircut I’ve ever seen on a 4 year old.
I’m not sure who labels that mohawk? And even if one had a real mohawk, who cares.
Are authorities just going mad?! The boy looks fine.
… i wonder what they would do to the kids that go to my school.
NO! Holy cow don’t those people have anything else to worry about?!
I’m so distracted by it that I can barely even type this!!!!!!
I grew up when mohawks was in style. I know when I see one…but is NOT a mohawk.
No, it’s fine.
Not at all.
I like that 98.98% of the people who voted on the article page also said that was ridiculous. I wonder if the 1.02% were voting yes as a joke?
no. poor kid. i hope he learns to stand for himself and truth through this.
i think it’s more of an issue of racism than than hair.
People need a life.
WHAT??? I didn’t even notice. That’s no Mohawk haircut!!
Jesus Christ. No. It’s hair. Get over it.
That school is retarded. That’s… really all there is to say.
oh wow. if it were pink and green and had more height, then yes. that doesn’t even qualify as a mohawk in my book.
no distraction there!
um…that’s not a mohawk.
and, uh…he’s 4…everything is distracting to 4 year olds…
Note to teacher:
This is not a mohawk, its called a fade. and i think it looks very nice on him.
Okay, not to sound racist, but isn’t that the same way about 90% of black males have their hair cut? It looks fine, completely normal, and not distracting at all. If I was his mother I would play the race card for sure.
Looks fairly normal to me. :S
No…
And you know…this whole “distraction” thing is so stupid. Don’t they realize that most of the things considered “distractions” aren’t until the teachers/authority figures make them into a big deal like this? And I’m speaking from first hand experience at my HOUSTON school, too. People will be like “omgwtf” for like maybe five minutes when they first see you…which will be before school or between classes…then they get over it. Especially in high schools. Then the teachers will spend so much time making it a big deal that the next day everyone’s distracted by the incident.
Seriously. Give it up, schools. At least it’s not stuff all over the teacher’s walls- which personally, distract me a LOT more. I’ll spend the whole class reading them…day after day after day…
Isn’t it standard to have longer hair on top and shorter on sides?
what?!?! distracting? wow…
No…that haircut is on -thousands- of little boys. I see it all of the time. I think it’s cute. Why would that ever be labeled distracting? People in Texas are nuts, I think. (Not to offend any Texans –I’m just sayin’…there beez some crazies!)
no, but the vid at the top of your site is a bit distracting.
No thats not distracting at all.
Daniel (doubledb)
Oh brother……
A second-grader came to school today with a REAL mohawk, and they didn’t send him home…..
it looks very short and clean cut if you asked me….i mean really WTF!!!
nope, nothing wrong with it Dan!
If that picture is accurate, then not a chance. It’s not a mohawk. It’s not even a fau-hawk! (sp?)
They (whoever was making the decision of whether it’s distracting or not) must have just wanted to make a fuss.
Did you see a similar article about the boy who had a star cut into his hair for the Dallas Cowboys.
Same state.
yeah, that’s the most distracting thing i’ve ever seen.
No!
Wow-that’s not distracting at all! That’s a nice clean cut.
I cannot believe that people are complaining about this?! You know, they should just be thankful that children are in school – neatly groomed and ready to learn!
And Dan, I’ve said it before, but I will say it again, “Enough with the ads!” Going “back home”.
No. seems fine to me.
stupid ! he looks fine.
are you serious? what are they talking about
mohawk? I see no mohawk. I see buzzcut gone wrong.
Not really, seems ok to me.
are you kidding me?
no! good grief.
Oi? Looks so normal. I don’t see the mohawk.
um… that’s not even close to a mohawk.
No that’s absurd.
Seriously, it’s ’cause he’s black.
1.) No, its not distracting at all.
2.) Why do you have video ads now?
Woah that hair is out of control
What ever his hair looks great
That’s how most black boys hair looks?
ohmy ..oh my…what is the world coming to????
shame on them the admin of that school! shame on them
and shame on the news for covering it ….
… no i take that back … the school needs to be shamed that that is the way to do it…
I would love to hear the followup on this…
i wonder if the admin will be canned?:)
People in Texas are nuts, I think. (Not to offend any Texans –I’m just sayin’…there beez some crazies!)
rofl.
sincerely
–a Texan.
No, that’s a great haircut. Perfectly appropriate for anyone.
That is the furthest thing from a mohawk. What are these people thinking?
I …. don’t have any words for this.
no, >.< theres hardly hair on his head!
Is it a joke? There is nothing wrong with this haircut!
If that’s distracting then I’m Miss Marple reincarnate.
For the love of all that is good and green have they nothing better to do than a. send a poor lil kid home for having a section of hair one twentieth of an inch longer than the rest of his hair and b. report about it?
Someone keep the troops in Iraq please so they have something and someone to talk about and leave little four-year-olds alone.
That’s my question… what kind of a four-year-old is in school?
Preschool I presume.
How much concentrating do you actually DO in preschool? “Eric honey I’m sorry but you have to go home… your hair-cut (or lack of thereof.. common the kid’s practically bald!) is distracting the little children from playing leap-frog.”
Give me a break. Give the kid a break. Someone needs to fire that teacher.
†Cryssie♥Leah™
Not at all.
i kinda find it neat… That is just… so…. unreasonable.
seriously, whoever finds that distracting… has a problem.
It’s not a mohawk, it’s called a fade & it’s the exact same haircut every other little boy who is African-American has. My 8 year old son is mixed & that’s how his hair has looked since he was about 2.
No! Not at all!
WHAT?
YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING !!
That’s like the beginnings of a hi-top fade, circa 1990. Kid and Play. My brother had one, with a part. Dope.
Great hair cut. I have seen members of our military with the same cut.
This is an example of why we homeschooled for over 14 years. God bless him, and I pray he and his family will not get “distracted” by the opinions that are so petty from those who seem to like to flaunt their positions. What a sorrow such people have “power” over families! prayers
Gee…looks like a Marine Corps haircut to me. Kid at our elementary school a couple years back got sent home because he wanted his hair dyed the same color as his mom’s, light orange/red. Not distracting, but since it wasn’t his “natural” hair color they sent him home.
I think schools should focus more on the bullies than the haircuts.
Not at all!!
I dont see why it’s considered a Mohawk. It is the standard military “high and tight” and looks weird on some, but not this kid. Sounds like racial profiling to me….
wait, what is this post about???
High and tight, baby! HOORAH!
Maybe if he dyed it purple or something it would be distracting…or if he got some tats and piercings to go along with it…
Looks normal to me.
Are you kidding me? That’s like the most common black male haircut known to man! What if it was all the same length, but it was a huge afro? Now THAT would be distracting. “Teacher, I can’t see the board…Eric’s hair is blocking my view!” When I taught, we did have boys with the puffball ponytails and the principal sat and cut the rubber bands out.
How idiotic. Are we living in a free country anymore? >:(
You’ve got to be kidding me. That’s absolutely ridiculous.
okaaaaaaay
no…..
Ok, that’s it. I’m coining a new phrase “Activist Principals”. Let’s see if it catches on.
Ah, and let’s see if we can’t send this principal to replace that woman who got 200 lashes?
The government is getting more and more…PETTY. His hair is fine…Jesus…go to a high school, and then try to kick out more than half of the people there for ‘faulty’ hair-dos!
lksfgsykjgh!!
If this is where the human race is headed count me out.
Jeez. People are so ridiculous.
No, it looks nice!
This is actually against the Constitution…
Forms of dress, like hairstyle, are considered forms of expression.
Determined by the Tinker vs. Des Moines case, I think.
testing
a) I’m glad I didn’t have to go to school when I was 4.
b) Ugly people, attractive people, and a lot of other things are distracting. This kid’s hair is mildly distracting.
No. That’s retarded. What is wrong with people today?
what the hell?!? what is with these schools? they should be focusing on preventing drug and alcohol abuse instead of sending 4 year olds home just because of a micrometer of difference in hair length.
no
Makes me glad I grew up in the 80s and 90s and not today. :S I had unusual hair growing up, and I got enough crap about it without being sent home for it being “distracting.” I seriously hope the world gets a little less ridiculous before I decide to have kids….
WHAT?
that isnt even a mohawk! geez.
No way!
No and god he is four what is wrong with the world
NO! OMG these schools are really getting out of hand!!!
no matter what someone does or says there is always going to be someone out there opposed to it.
HAVE A GREAT TURKEY DAY DAN!!!
No it doesnt look distracting at all if it was a color other than a normal shade then maybe but not the way it is now
that’s nowhere near being “distracting”. school’s have such stupid rules…
That is nothing. His hair is fine i personally wouldnt even call that a mohawk, its a really high and tight in my book
Mohawk? Whatever, even if it is Mohawk, so what? It’s just hairstyle.
And I think Eric Davis II is a cute little boy.
“Distracting hairstyles” are against my school’s dress code, as well. This includes any “unnatural color”. I go to a Catholic high school, and they’re pretty strict about the uniform policies (to the point that they make us lift up our pantlegs so that they can tell if we’re wearing colored socks). A few weeks ago (fine, so it was Halloween), I wore my hair in a Mohawk to school, and nobody had a problem with it. That’s a lot more distracting than, say, my friend who dyed her hair pink last October for breast cancer awareness. But anyway, I walked past both the principal and the “head of student services” (he’s just in charge of how we act), and the principal just laughed at me.
Did I mention I’m a girl?
And to make a long story short, no.
There is nothing distracting about that hair. This is just rediculous. I thought this was a free country? The kid is freaking four. Distracted from what? Their animal crackers and juice cups? Please!!!
That’s messed up! It’s not distracting!
that is the most subtle mohawk i have ever seen.
and no, it`s not distracting.
frizzy lizzy raised an interesting question. if a white blond boy had that haircut.. would the “mohawk” even be noticeable?
My 7 year old brother has a real mohawk….I hate it.
School districts here are fucking stupid.
That’s not distracting, it’s not even a real mohawk.
This is completely ridiculous. Its step toward social conformity because difference makers make the weak feel weaker even if its a 4yr old vs 40 yr old.
This story has been dugg on digg.com and some good comments have been made here at MohawksRock.com http://www.mohawksrock.com/forum/topic/show?id=1501994%3ATopic%3A587
That’s the southern school system for you!!!
