Doesn’t it feel a little early for Christmas music?

  • Let’s go back to Charlie Parker!

  • Are you trying to tell me something??

  • My tolerance for Christmas music is limited to the week of Christmas only.  Anything longer is obnoxious and designed only to induce people into a shopping frenzy!  :-p

    Kathi

  • It does start too early.  Two weeks is all I can take.

My bank started playing Xmas music last Sat.

  • NOPE! Christmas is always, for me

  • Never late enough! All the saccharine inflation of joy, happiness, and singing really pounds away at me. And continous praise of what I believe to be a fictitious character and Hebrew mythology irritates me.

Though, I do like the Christmas season! Pretty decorations and nice, cold (California) weather. =)

  • we had sirius playing while we were eating dinner and I everyone was saying, ‘what is this?’ cause it was total christmas music on. :(

  • Most definitely!  But not as bad as hearing it in the middle of October as I did on a KC radio station.  I haven’t listened to that station since.

  • But it’s after Thanksgiving, now, so it’s not so bad as it was last week.

  • Nah, it’s officially after Thanksgiving now.
Anything before/on Thanksgiving is too early though.

  • We’ve been going through all of our cds getting ready for the season. We LOVE Christmas!!!!

  • MOST DEFINITELY.  They start with the Christmas stuff entirely too early – it gets earlier and earlier every year, too!

  • yeah! most people in our town skip from halloween to christmas. very annoying that they forget turkey day!

  • I just go deaf on those Christmas musics.. heehee

  • i just like the lights. the music blows.

  • “Most definitely!  But not as bad as hearing it in the middle of October as I did on a KC radio station.  I haven’t listened to that station since.”

which station is that? i mostly only listen to 92.3 anyway. no music.

  • it starts earlier and earlier every year

  • Yes, even the Christian radio station I listen to is playing nothing but Christmas music from today on.  Whatever happened to Advent?  Waiting and expecting?
    Christmas hasn’t happened yet!

  • Yeah. AT LEAST wait until December. Geeze.

  •     YES. The day after Thanksgiving is NOT December.

  • Yes.  It is always early for Christmas music.  It is unfortunate.  Just like radio stations, songs get played out quickly.

  • YES

oh god I HATE Christmas music.

My mom plays it for about two months straight. argghhhhhhh

  • I agree with ChrisRusso.

  • Absofrickenlutely!

  • NOOOO!!!  Of course, if I still worked in the mall, I might be saying something different…

    But since I’m not…

It’s never too early for Christmas music!!!!

  • I HATE CHRISTMAS MUSIC. No joke. What makes it worse is that I play in my college band so of course we play all of the concert band standards… “Sleigh Ride,” “White Christmas,” “Silent Night…” you name it, I have most likely played a crappy clarinet version of it at one point.

  • it is always too early for xmas music. any day besides xmas. and even then.

  • Now it is ok…but NOT before thanksgiving day! Every holiday is getting worse and worse.

  • It seemed like they started playing it even earlier than usual. But I have a friend who LOVES Christmas…so it’s impossible to stay grumpy about it.

  • Toys R Us starts playing Christmas music November  1st.  Needless to say,  I have been listening to it since November 1st, almost daily.

    So yes.

  • One supermarket where I live started playing the Christmas music in the middle of November -  gets earlier and earlier each year.

  • It really doesn’t matter to me.  I like it when it comes in doses, but I couldn’t take it all day for hours on end.  So if the music starts right around now and I hear only a few hours a week, I’m good.

  • My rule is after Thanksgiving.  So Christmas music has the Marclar Seal of Approval.

  • Although I love Christmas it does seem to hit too early – and earlier with each passing year. Ah, the joys of commericalization.

By the way, I was reading World magazine and I noticed something – many of their short articles hit on new-subjects you’d posted to your photos section. You were first – so in some ways you’re doing a faster job of informing the public about interesting tidbits than a professional publication. Kudos on keeping your readers informed.

  • Yes, it’s too early, but what can we do about it?  I’d rather have a few Christmas songs mixed in with others until about Dec. 10, then after Christmas, mix in ordinary music until Jan.1.  By the way, if I were in charge, I would also abolish daylight savings time,   And no schools would start until after Labor Day, and the kids would get out before Memorial Day.  No spring or fall breaks, just a few days for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas, and 1 week for Easter.  Anyone want to vote for me?

  • Day after Thanksgiving…it’s fine now.

But most stores have been playing it for over a week…AND radio stations!
    That’s too early.

  • The music?.. Heck, I dont even like Christmas .
    Much less the jingle hells

  • Nah – We start listening to Christmas music in October. Not constantly until after Thanksgiving, though.

  • YES! I refuse to begin to think about celebrating Christmas until the official beginning of winter.

  • nope — it is the day after Thanksgiving — not a bit too early…..We just get longer to enjoy it this year.

  • no, haha, i’ve been listening to it for about 2 weeks now. I guess i’m just really in the mood.

  • Crank that Ho Ho music!!!!  Thanksgiving is the gateway to Christmas!

  • Because we have been psychologically conditioned for “all things Christmas” to be a subliminal message to spend money, everything associated with it is being pushed further and further out from December 25th.  The holiday as long been an exercise of national worship at the alter of capitalistic greed. Corporate America has kidnapped what should be a religious holiday and convinced us that massive over the top spending is a religious act.

The music itself is rather nice. Upbeat. Fun to listen to, at least in the beginning.  But after weeks and weeks of hearing nothing else in the stores, they begin to wear a little thin.  Especially when you realize that the purpose of playing it is because research analysts have determined that people will spend more if it is played.

I feel Christmas has been hijacked and left us with a hollowed out, guilt and misery producing, mockery of what at one time was intended to be a sacred spiritual event.  There is very little of that spirit left.

  • yes! i can’t stand unchristian Christmas music! it’s the same thing ever year. you get sick of it! >.<

  • Whats sad is a few of the local restaurants have ALREADY been playing Christmas music for a few weeks now. Come on, isn’t that supposed to start…um…today? The day

    after

    Thanksgiving?

  • NO WAY! I love Christmas music and started listening to it October 30th this year. Bring it ON!

  • nah but i think i feel that way because its snowing like crazy

  • “Little early for Christmas music” = Everyday except for Christmas.

  • just a little..
but what can you do when christmas spurs up economy with those massive shopping?

  • Too early for me!  Unfortunately, my co-worker disagrees…  She figures it is the day after Thanksgiving, so it is now the Christmas season.  She is blasting her Christmas music station as I type.  I guess it is time to get out my headphones and listen to something else!

  • Yes and No.  We now have snow on the ground, but the holiday is still a little more than a month away.  Lets’ all groove to something else, for now.

  • heckk noo

  • Yes. Start it after December 6.

  • Snow flurries = Christmas music.

  • Nah. Now that it’s the day after Thanksgiving, it’s fine.

  • oh yeah.

everything christmas related starts earlier each year. like someone else had said.

  • I hate Christmas music soooo much! The Lite has been playing it since November 2nd. That is why I listen to opera… if you don’t speak Italian, even if they must sing about stupid things, you have no idea what they’re saying.

  • i wish they’d at least wait until December- it feels out of place right after thanksgiving.. but that’s when ya just pop in a cd and go on about your merry way:)

  • When Santa was at the mall 2 weeks before thanksgiving it made me angry. Christmas music always puts me over the edge.

  • if its not christmas eve, don’t play christmas music around me. I’ll freak out. Even more so if it’s clay aiken. for sure.

  • Yes. Its not even December yet.

For orchestra we started our Christmas music (or ‘holiday’ music) in October

  • It is never too early, in Michigan.

  • I’m a violinist – the Christmas season starts the first week of november when I get the first of several sets of music to practice – yay concerts and extra cash!!!

  • yes it shouldn’t play through November

  • Most Christmas music is not worth listening to.

  • Yes, I cant stand Holiday music

  • Dear Gentiles,
I love the lights, I really do. And any excuse to get free shit is always appreciated, after all, I was born to Jewish parents. I wont even complain about the ridiculous amount of money I spend on my friends, because I do love them, but honestly, what the fuck is with the terrible music? There are like fourteen songs, each obnoxious, that play on constant rotation- EVERYWHERE. And then you get pissed when I wear my iPod in public. I love you all, and so does Jesus, but I will not be going into any shopping facilities until January.
    Love Always,
    Ariel

  • NO!!!!!!!!!  I love Christmas music!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no duh
cmas music is good on (and only good on) Dec.25

  • Nothing Christmas is allowed until the day after Thanksgiving.  I do feel it is too early for non-stop Christmas music, but I didn’t mind a few songs mixed in on the Q90, the Christian station I listen to.  To be liturgically correct, though, starting Dec. 1 we should be hearing/singing songs pointing to the future coming of Christ (Advent music) and the rest of the Christmas music should be saved for the actual 12 days of Christmas, beginning Dec. 25.

  • its never too early for Christmas Music!

  • Oh yeah – I find the Christmas shopping commercials started about 2 weeks ago even stranger.

  • A couple more days and then it will be okay.  I prefer to keep my holidays in the month they are in.  Let us not confuse Thanksgiving with Christmas.  Take time to enjoy the season as it is and not rush into it.

  • Yes, yes it is.

  • Nah, I effing love Christmas music. I’ll listen to it in July, seriously. But I guess I’m more of a harmony person. I don’t really pay attention to lyrics, even when I singing along.

  • I’m okay with it AS LONG as it is AFTER Thanksgiving…mind you, the store I work in has been playing it for the past two weeks. :I And it’s the same songs repeating day after day after day.

  • Never too early, especially if accompanied by a true Christmas Spirit!~

  • Yes, yes it is. I’m in band, and we started practicing for the concert beginning of November. I suppose it’s understandable because it’s hard, but then they play it on the radio and it drives me crazy.

  • I like Christmas music, so I don’t mind right now.  But yeah, the only reason we’re hearing a lot of it is because of the over-the-top marketing.  I don’t like hearing it for a straight month after Thanksgiving.

  • Nope!! It’s time to ring in the season!!!

  • My Favorite Christian station in Houston is KSBJ. It is awesome! On Thanksgiving day they start broadcasting Christmas music only. This lasts through Christmas day. I love it! Reminds me what it is all about.

  • Oh well it happens to the best of us!

  • I hate my radio station between November and December – They constantly repeat the same songs in different versions.  Enough already!

  • >….way too early, but there is no accounting for taste or sense….

    Peace

  • Boxing Day would be a bit soon.

  • Yes. I love Christmas, and Christmas music, but the radio stations have been playing Christmas music every day since Thanksgiving.

  • I sing Christmas songs in any season.  It drives my family up the wall.

  • YES!!!

…except for the music from Church christmas programs…

  • I’ve been hearing it since November fourth… its’ ridiculous

  • I think Christmas music is okay as long as Thanksgiving is over. The past couple of years in Kansas where I lived, they starte playing it in the beginning of November though. That’s not right :P
