  • Subscribing Etiquette

I noticed one of my xanga friends had thanked someone for subscribing to her.  She dropped by the person’s site and said, “Thanks for subscribing.”

I have never once thanked anyone for subscribing.

Do you thank people for subscribing to you?

  • first! no. sometimes if I don’t know them, I ask who they are.

  • I used to do it all the time, I still do it very occasionally, but I don’t always do it, and it doesn’t mean that I am not grateful for any particular subscribers, sometimes I have the time and sometimes I do not.

  • No. I usually don’t notice until after a while. I don’t pay enough
    attention.

  • I think I have but I generally do not.

  • I do when the person reads most of my posts. On occasion, people go through all of them, and then subscribe. When that happens I always go and thank them.

  • No, usually I don’t.

  • every single one.  it’s a full time job.

  • ryc: it’s still funnier when you say “boobs”.

  • I usually make a point of swinging by and saying hello and welcome aboard and all that. I also take time to read some of their posts and see what they’re all about.

  • ryc: you should take your family and go on a European tour (or tour one country like France or England or something)! I saw lots of families while I was there.

  • No…perhaps I should start doing that, it seems like a nice thing to do.

  • No, I never have. Usually, I go check ‘em out and if I like what I read, I sub back. Hmmm…maybe I should thank them. But so many just sub without saying anything and I never even know.

  • I have in the past!  Obviously, they find something interesting in the blog, so naturally a person wants to thank them for stopping by and subbing!

  • I thank folks sometimes. I look at it as someone interested in what you have to say and it’s an honor for someone to subscribe to your site. Sure there are some that just want to harass people (or bully them LOL)when they subscribe. That’s sad, but we live in a world of hate caused by sin. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas

  • Sometimes. And I will usually ask if I can subscribe to them.

  • No, it seems silly – one would assume that they subscribe because they like your content.  Then, shouldn’t they be thanking you?

  • I have put a message on my blog site saying thanks for subscribing etc

  • I have done so on occasion, but don’t really check on a regular basis to see who has subscribed.

Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to me.  Does that suffice?

  • On occasion I have but there really isn’t any rhyme or reason to when I do so.

  • I try to say hi, welcome, thanks, and the like.  It’s like hosting people at my house for me.  My xanga is very much like a window into my home/family.  So if you stop by, I like to know who you are, say hello etc… If you stay (subscribe), than I like to make you feel welcome.

  • Nope, but I acknowledge it by reading one of their posts and commenting (most of the time).

  • Some do…some dont.

  • Most of the time!  I try to thank people when they leave a long or very insightful comment on my site.  This might be the Internet, but people are people and there’s absolutely on harm in being extra kind to them.   Who knows…you just might make someone’s day!!

  • sometimes.. depends what kind of mood i’m in ;)

  • No, although I will occasionally acknowledge their move by subscribing to their site.

  • I honestly don’t go and thank every single person who subscribes to me here because I figure for the most part most of them will read in subscriptions and few are likely to actually comment me. Then again, I ain’t here for a comment record or popularity. I am here because it allows me to be me… MySpace is strictly for keeping in touch with my kids. LOL

Hugs’n'Smooches… thanks for the welcome back sweets.

  • Yep, but I don’t get a bazillion subscribers a day, as I imagine you do. . .being a xanga superstar and all. ;)

  • only if they tell me

    Daniel (dobuledb)

p.s. – ad still annoys me!

  • NO, but I usually go and say hi.  Even if someone new I don’t know drops by!

  • no, but that’s cool of her though… most of my subscribers are friends anyway, so my thanks are implied

  • I believe I always have.

  • I have…but not always.

  • well, no. but i suppose i should

  • Sometimes. Depends on how much time I have

  • Sure I do… and unless they look like axe murderers on their site, I usually return the favor.  I appreciate people who reach out to other people here, and since I’m an “older” Xanga (OK, not THAT old) poster, I don’t get hundreds of subs ‘ya know.  Not like YOU, anyway Dan.

  • I never have– But I do often ask if it is ok if I subscribe to someone, if that means anything-

  • When people do subscribe – yes. But it’s a rare thing for me to have people subscribe to my blog. As of right now, I don’t have any entries – but when I’ve had xanga before, I always thanked everyone who subscribed.

    Sincerely,
         T.

  • i thought you were talking about me
(but i wonder what degree of friend i belong.. a friend from xanga that subs you)

and not forgetting that i reply to all the comments and messages too.

  • I do say thnk you, and if I like what I see I sub back… sometimes I don’t I just wait and see how active they are on my blog and if they comment me I will comment them and get to know them and then sub.

Your blog is different though… It isn’t wht I would consider a personal blog. You have great questions, and responde with great insights. But when I come her I don’t necessarily think I am getting to know DAN…

  • Sometimes, not only for subscribing.  But as well for comment. I do sometime tell them thank you for stopping by and leaving me comment. Becoming online friends can be a wonderful thing to have.  Getting to know each other at the same time.  :)

  • Sometimes.

I do appreicate when an intelligent or interesting person bothers to check out what I have to say.

  • I’ll subscribe to the person if they’re interesting. Otherwise, I’ll say thanks. But that’s the Texan charm in me.

  • I used to always thank folks, but I’ve gotten out of the habit.
I think it is a nice thing to do, but not necessary.

  • Sometimes I do.

  • No.  If they’ve  left no comment of their own, I’m content to let them lurk away.  But I usually comment (and thank) first-time commenters.

  • When my ADD doesn’t get in the way, yes I do!

  •  I think you should visit all 10,000 of your subscriber’s sites and write individual, personal messages of thanks. It’s the right thing to do.

  • I usually don’t thank people who subscribe to me until I see that they start commenting.

  • Not that I ever recall.

  • I hope you’re getting some serious kick-backs for these ads because they’re really fucking annoying.

  • no, but, mostly because nobody subscribes.

  • I’ve never thanked anyone for subscribing nor ever been thanked for subscribing. Honestly, I didn’t know anybody did that until just now. I’ve been thanked for commenting but never for subscribing.

Really for all I’ve been a member for over three years, I don’t understand xangan etiquette at all. Then again I’m not too good at RL etiquette either.

  • No one subscribes to me :(

  • I think I used to, but it has been a long time since I have had a subscriber.  God bless and have a great weekend, everyone.

  • No, I’m sill new on this Xanga thing and I only have one subscriber. I havn’t subscribed though either.

  • Nope.
    Should i?

  • I always do and then I post a “Welcome” note on my blog.  I just think that is the right thing to do.  I will also go to people’s sites to thank them for a comment or for stopping by.  I do miss some, but I do try to keep up.  It doesn’t hurt to be nice.

  • Not usually, mostly beause I don’t have very many subscribers. I actually just went through the list the othe day and deleted about half of them, mostly because they were people I used to know but really don’t want reading about my life anymore, or because they were total strangers who had never commented, hah.

  • I can’t remember.  It’s been so long since anyone has subscribed.

  • I do, because its the polite thing to do.

  • Yes I do…. it’s polite and I don’t think there’s enough politeness going on in the Xanga world!

  • I do sometimes. I do if the person who subs says something nice about my site and how they’re subbing and they hope thats okay.. or shtuff like that.

  • I just thanked someone recently. Are you talking about meeee?
I like to thank them because it makes me feel good that someone cares about what I have to say enough to subscribe to me.

  • Nope, but I’ll usually subscribe back. And when I subscribe to people, I comment their entries. :)

  • no, because: 1. not many people subscribe to me these days. and 2. only my friends can subscribe to me.

  • When I started out, I did.  Now, I’m just too busy, but I’m still grateful.

  • no not really…

  • no, not out of habit. If someone new comments, I thank them though. I can’t remember the last time I got a new subber…well yes I can..yesterday, but she had been a subber and somehow got lost..still on the friends list, but wasn’t on the sub list..so she was always there in my mind.

  • Sometimes I do if I notice they subscribed recently… especially if they leave comments

  • Sometimes.
There’s a bug in xanga though..you CANNOT UNSUBSCRIBE right now!

  • Sometimes.
There’s a bug in xanga though..you CANNOT UNSUBSCRIBE right now!

  • Of course….where did you learn your manners????????

  • Yes or No…especially the ones that I have a hard time getting on their friend list.

  • No,lol, I usually don’t notice when they do, I like when people comment though.

  • I will usually subscribe to them in return as a ‘thank you.’

  • I don’t. A couple people that have subscribed to me have nothing whatsoever on their site, so I wonder why they did subscribe. Actually, I wonder why people do anyway because I say nothing interesting.

  • I don’t think there’s anything wrong with thanking them, but I wouldn’t think it necessary, either.

  • I probably wouldn’t even notice for weeks. But people do seem to thank me even for visiting their site (except for you Dan).

  • I don’t write for other people, so no.  But if I was running a layout or icons site, I might do so.

  • haha…  yes, of course.

  • Yes, but I don’t have anywhere even close to the number of people that subscribe to me that you do.

  • no one has ever subscribed to me.  Does that cost money?

  • Yes, every time.

    -Guru on the Hill

  • I don’t even check to see who subscribes to my site.  So the answer is no.

  • I used to.  People come and go so frequently on Xanga that I no longer bother.

  • yeah when i notice but i’m not that much of a noticer

  • well, all the people who subscribe to me are my friends in real life, sho there’s no real point… but if someone I didn’t personally know subscribed to me, I’d probably thank them.

  • No, but I usually want to have hot nasty monkey sex with my subscribers, and that is as good as thanking them.

  • I do sometimes if I’m feeling uber nice. : )

  • no but i think I should  and i am glad it was brought up

  • Dan.

There is no way you could possibly thank all of your subscribers.

  • If anyone is subscribed to me, I probably don’t know it. How do I find out? I don’t really care. Good for them. They probably made a silly mistake – I’m terribly whiny.

  • No, I don’t really expect to be thanked for subscribing to someone either.

  • No..but I always let someone know when I’m subscribing. I think THAT is proper etiquette. I hate stalkers :)

  • I do thank people for subscribing to me. When someone subscribes, I figure they have an interest in what I have to say and that makes me feel good, and I want to get to know anyone who reads my posts.

But I can imagine that you get dozens of subscribers every single day and there’s a difference between someone who can go to each subscriber and get to know them, and someone who just cant keep up.

Maybe just thank everyone on your blog.

Im Rachel by the way. I dont post on here often, but Im subscribed to you and I always read your posts.

  • No. I don’t ask people to subscribe, so a thank you isn’t necessary.
I’m also kind of negligent when it comes to subscriptions. I don’t notice them until weeks after.

  • well it is nice to thank someone for subscribing…
because maybe the person that subscribe likes to read what that person is writing about in the future [=

  • if your open to be read then yes its respect

  • I try to be polite and respond but sometimes I forget !

Are you not polite in just that aspect or all things ?

    I’m not judging …just wondering !

  • > I have in the past, but I fell off for a while, so haven’t had any new subscribers, lately…. Oh, well!

    Peace

  • No, because more often than not they subscribe without asking.  My xanga is like my online journal.  I originally made it so that my friends could know what was going on in my life.  If somebody subscribes to my site without looking at it, I simply let them know that they can be subscribed to me if they want, but whatever I have to say is rather boring and not worth their time.  I always ask others if it’s okay for me to subscribe to them, because to me that is more polite.  They aren’t doing me any favors by subscribing to me…so there is no reason for me to thank them.  It’s simply a decision they make.  (We usually do become friends, though.  And that’s usually rewarding.  :) )

  • I missed one or two, but yes.

  • Why not? I mean, why do we blog?  what an amazing thing — that someone wants to hear what I think!  I pray I can be useful to many. so…yes, I have thanked some from time to time.  Probably should EVERY time!

  • No. And i dislike the feeling that i must update or entertain people. I really wish people would not sub me.

  • Subscribers….what are they….

  • I don’t know what that means.
