No. I only buy enough warranties for a year, maybe a year and a half.
Nope.
2nd?
woo!
No, but my dad does sometimes on a really expensive item. Typically, though, we try to find something that won’t break within 3 months.
yesssss
but only on items that would be worth it
Not any more, the most fragile piece of electronics I own is my Epson printer. I accidentally dropped it from a height of 6′ a year ago. It still works fine, no warranty necessary.
No.
I work in sales I know better
why should i?
sometimes
no, my parents often do though
No, Unless it is something I know that I would need it like the riding lawnmower. Then I will buy one but other than that. Depends on what I buy.. Most of the time I don’t.
I do on laptops. But I tend to spend 3,000 on my laptops making the extended warranty, and accidental coverage worth a little more.
twice. once on my logitech speakers. didn’t need ‘em. they’re pretty much amazing.
but i bought one for my olympus point and shoot. three year warranty. fuckin thing broke twice and i got it repaired. and then i broke again two months after its warranty passed and i was at my cousin’s wedding. fucking thing.
No
I almost always buy an extended warrenty. Once I spent $5 on an extended warrenty for a $25 cd player and used that warrenty to replace the cd player twice. best $5 I ever spent.
When its worth it.
no
if it’s the fastest way to shut them up
Yes, on a laptop, because I use my laptop at least 8 hours a day.
In regards to your comment — I have moved on a bit, but that’s also because I can’t understand what’s going on with xanga these days. All the new features came when I wasn’t paying attention, so I have no idea how to do anything anymore, and I haven’t taken the time to figure it out. Xanga has changed a lot since the good old days.

On another note, perhaps you’ve already answered this, but, what’s your favorite C.S. Lewis book? I’ve recently been reading more of his works and am curious. I’m 1/4 of the way through That Hideous Strength. Ever read it?
Melissa
sometimes, depending on what it is. i would buy one on a laptop or other expensive piece of technology.
No…but I hate it when BEST BUY put pressure on me! Anyone from Best Buy in here, go fuck yourself!
Yup, on real expensive items like my car and laptop. Even used them a time or two.
YES. like computer. BUT NOT CAMERA.
nope
yes in my new car and on a dell computer and neither is worth crap!!
no - I cannot afford it
I will do it for my PCs
You really don’t need them on anything. 2 or 3 years down the road, if the thing breaks, it’s better buying a brand new/updated version of it. I work in sales, I feel guilty when someone buys one and I’ve warned them they’re only waisting their money.
only when it is something that I know will break as soon as the warranty is almost up
Only on items that I determine it is worth it.
No. Hubby’s convinced me that for most things they’re a rip-off. For example for a lot of electronics if you buy a warranty for 2-3 years, well by then you might be looking to upgrade anyway.
I only buy waranty that covers my own potential damage or replacement parts for expensive items (£500+ cost to buy) which is basically insurance. Extending general manufacturer waranty is pretty pointless as in European Union there is a statuatory 2 years manufacturer waranty for most items which most retailers wont tell you.
Any contained item like TV’s, Fridge, Dishwasher that are at the higher price range I would expect to serve at least 5 years normally with proper care so expecting them to fail within that period by buying extended waranties doesn’t say much for the product. Computers while they can be expensive are modular by design, so any broken item(s) can easily be replaced at a lower cost than extended waranties/insurance would cost.
Only on certain electronics. Computers, printers, cameras. And cars. You bet I get them on cars.
Only with my Bike, six year extended plan, that just recently came into paying for itself……….
How funny you should ask. I just bought a brand new laptop, hence my return to the internet, and the guy kept trying to get me to buy a three year extended warranty. He tried the entire time I was looking at the laptop, and through the whole checkout process. His final argument was that the laptops batter would have to be replaced in three years, and would cost three hundred dollars, the same price as the three year extended warranty. I was so irritated at that point that I told him that in three years the computer would be obsolete and I could get a battery off of E-Bay for an eighth of what he was trying to charge me for the warranty. So no, I don’t buy extended warranties…Is the spell check feature in posts new?
Nope.
Hello.I am BONNIE.I LOVE TO COOK
Only on high-dollar electronics.
No!
No, haha. I hate spending the extra money.
Oh yes, I did on my new 20″ monitor!!
Yes, I did for my Xbox 360. Lo and Behold, a few months later, I had to send it in for repairs. I got it back two days ago, and today we have no school… So my mom grounded me and said I couldn’t play.
nope…stuff should last long – for expensive items I read reviews and try to get the best product that will last long.
like for christmas my younger sis wanted some mp3 player but when i checked it out, reviewers said they stop working and crash after like a month or so of use.. thus i bought her something else
Daniel (doubledb)
no, but i certainly sell a lot of them
It depends on the product. I did on this laptop, and that was a great call since the video card overheated like two years and a few days after I bought it. Three year warranty ftw.
No. I consider that wasted money.
Only for modern video game consoles would I even consider it, since they are renowned for their high failure rate. Especially the xbox 360. I wish I had bought the extended warranty on mine since it broke right after my warranty ended.
Never. I feel that is paying for nothing.
I used to…mostly they are a waste of money.
Extended warranties are up to 80% profit for retailers, and they usually don’t cover accidents (like drops) or things the consumer has messed up on them (like viruses on computers).
After a few years in sales I can say that I’d never buy a warranty on anything.
nope
Not usually..
depends
I bought and used a 3 year warranty on my laptop and I bought one for my $400 camera because I have dropped and broke cameras in the past. But we recently bought a 40” LCD television and didn’t get the extended warranty because we figured we wouldn’t use it… unless it turns out to be a complete piece of crap (knock on wood).
I get the warranty if there’s a risk that I might break it, lol.
the only things I ever buy the extended warranty on are things I might be prone to drop-camera, walkman, etc. It has paid off in the long run.
No I have never. I just pray that my machine doesn’t break down.
No.
Not usually. But I did on my phone because I’ve ruined so many phones by taking them rollerblading or out on the jet ski. I also did on my camera because I take my camera pretty much everywhere and it gets very scratched, dirty, and broken pretty quick.
If the price is over 150, definitely. I paid $50 for a 3-year best buy warrenty on my $250 mp3 player 2 years ago. When it died this year, I brought it in, and they just looked at me and said “You have $250. Get whatever you like.” I made sure that I did the same again… best $50 I’ve spent so far.
not generally.
Nope, total waste of money.
no
Only replacement plans. Extended warranties are worthless
Always!
I used to, and in 10 years?
I’ve never used one.
Nah. If it needs an extended warranty, it isn’t worth buying. I want dependable products, dammit!
Nope!! I just never have the extra money and to be honest, I have never had a problem with my purchases in needing the warranty!!
Not yet
no way…don’t they think their product will last for 1 year ???!!!!!!
I buy extened warranties on vehicles and it’s paid off more than once
> Nope….
Peace
I never do, because I purchase everything with amex, which gives me an extended warranty for free.
most of the time, however studdies have proven its a waste of money for the buyer.
It’s all about the fine print.
For example, at Wolf Camera the warranty covers everything but fire or theft. Basically, if you can prove that your camera was destroyed or broken… they’ll fix it or replace it with the newest camera. and that also includes unlimited cleanings. (most camera makers ask the customer to clean their camera twice a year to keep it in good condition.)
Not usually, the only thing I have an extended warranty on is my laptop and that has been worth it.
