Googling Your Name
I asked before if you had ever googled your xanga site name. I was just reading an article that indicated that 47% of adults have googled their own name. Here is the link: Link
Have you ever googled your name?
Comments (98)
Yeah, and it’s kind of depressing; I get forumboard entries of me ranting and raving from years ago, ha. Taught me a good lesson about not using my real name online! Although I did enjoy reading the news story of my 67-year-old namesake who robbed churches–that was amusing.
Sure have. A whole bunch of old things come up, from high school and the beginning of college due to my old webshots name and screen name. Kinda embarrassing. Maybe I should cover my tracks better.
Yes. And when I check out the IMAGE google, I am a fat, old woman!!
Correction: A whole bunch of things come up when I google my xanga name, not actual name. Even though my name is quite uncommon, there is nothing at all that comes up about me in google. Too bad for my stalkers. You have to search for my aliases.
No, but I have now
Sure!
Nothing comes up on me. I am invisible on the internet. You can find my screen name stuff if you google it though, nothing comes up.
Yes and I didn’t show up!
No I have not googled my Xanga site. I did however Google my real name, which was interesting because I found some relatives I did not know I had.
God bless and take care.
yeah, but too bad my name is too common.
who hasn’t?
yep, nothing interesting
Yeah. And I found out that there’s a luxury bag named after me, as well as a band. WOOHOO.
Go Google “Adelynne” and see.
Yeah but my name is so common I find a bazillion different people.
yup
yeah….but nothing came up.
Yeah.
Not much popped up.
What a bummer.
yea,and the names of my fiance and my family…
<8
gina
I have, but never found anything out about myself there.
yes xD
Yeah, and most of the results were actually me, my name isn’t too common.
Not recently. I’m saving it for when I get really bored.
ryc: Not sure what the final count is, but I think we had more than 4″ at the time of that picture. I’d say there’s at least 8″ now. Thank goodness it stopped.
under my new name, i only turn up in one place.under my old last name i am found by the thousands.
Ok I was bored. I tried it. It was boring, not much of me out there. But apparently my last name is also a first name in Germany so it was an interesting combination of search results.
yep
Yes! Though… I didn’t come up
yea, but apparently not everyday.
just now, I see that I have a drama show named after me, sort of, in taiwan or china or japan.
cool.
Xanga name: Yes. I use it as most of my account names, so lots of stuff pops up.
Real name: Yes. I am quite pleased that the only articles pertaining to me are of my involvement in helping the elderly.
yes, i get honor roles and sailing results
yeah lol
Yeah, all the time. If you look under images, I am a fat balding guy in the Middle East or something >_<
My xanga name doesn’t return anything funky though, it’s my real name that turns up some interesting things…
Yeah and it leads right to my xanga.
I”ll shut down soon.
Yeah! I searched my full name, but it’s not about me. Just uninteresting things.
Aye, that I have.
Sure, but nothing I didn’t already know about…
yea I had…very embarrassing.
I have
.
mhm.
not much comes under my real name. Under my screen name I found out that some people used my xanga blog to find interesting stories to write about on thier blog and then credited me in telling them about it. so it was interesting to see that.
Yes, and it’s all about my book. There’s really no personal information about me.
Yep! I didn’t think I was that interesting for someone to google me up.. lol
yep
sure have! nothing interesting came up though….typical
Yeh, but I haven’t found myself, maybe if I type my middle name. There’s a lot of Chans in the world, especially China.
I have. It is amazing what shows. One thing I found out is that there is another “Aslans_daughter” only with a small “a”. She is not like me from what I can figure out. I also found a link that looked like it was supposed to go to my site, but went to some advertising site and at the bottom it said something like, “Why did I get this site?” I think that is a little freaky. Anyway, I think everyone should check out themselves to see what you are putting out there in “La La Land.”
Yes, the first entry is an award I won a couple of years ago.
PS: My name isn’t really Carlotta Valdez…
yeah…
First on the images, nowhere in site for normal hits…I share my name with some other pianists.
all the time and my dh’s and children’s names too- I actually have a google alert on our last name.
Yes of course. I’m surprised 53% haven’t. I found some weird writing of mine from ages ago that I still haven’t the faintest clue how they ended up on some random guy’s website. It didn’t bother me, but it did surprise me. Not much else though.
Yes but I don’t count as an adult.
Yeah…
Sure have…!
yep!
OMG
I JUS GOOGLED IT AND A POEM I WROTE IN SIXTH GRADE SURFACED UP!!! AND ITS ON SOME WEBSITE IVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF !!!!
Yes. It’s pretty cool. =) I appear in the first link.
nope

Is that cool or what? I have my own corporation and I didn’t even know it!
Only got 1,500 with “awth44″, but that’s how I like it, I think.
Loads of exciting stuff………
Well I’ve tried..but apparently I am not doing something right.
yes
Yeah, but all that comes up is a random rabbi, and then a bunch of statues
Yeah, because I was looking for my namesake who plays hockey in Canada. I was hoping to get a hockey shirt with our name on it.
Yes I have.
haha yes.. and everytime I do it brings up all my work stuff and business profile.. Thank god none of my facebook pics are up there
I don’t really get anything when I google my real name, Audrey Cunningham. However, when I google my screen names, LadyValkyrie37, LadyValkyrie, and Lady_Valkyrie_37, I get many more hits.
yes, but i do get a lot of princess Diana. o.o
I’ve googled both my xanga name and my real name.
My teacher actually told me to do so. Haha. My names too common though.
So far I haven’t found me on Google. I’ve found a doctor, a lawyer, a professor, and a hockey player — all with my name. I also found a distant cousin.
on google images.. i’m an asian porn star…
I have, but it was only for surveys and I’d just look at the first thing that came up and then be done with it.
No. But my deceased husband’s death notice has been “googled” by the funeral home from which he had been interred.
I google my name or my kids’ names and my husband’s obituaries pop up, from 13 years ago. Still!
Apparently there is a strawberry princess with my current name and a park in Pennsylvania with my maiden name. Cool.
My Xanga name also leads to my Deviantart site and my YouTube stuff. Both are pretty lame, I mostly have them to comment on other people’s art work and videos.
No, but a friend of mine googled my name about three years ago.
Sure. It’s even more entertaining to Google “(your first name) needs” — it’ll distract you for a while. Also, occasionally you’ll get the results from someone else with the same name doing the same thing, lol. =)
Although, I just Googled my Xanga name and the alias I most often use and a disturbing number of hits came up.
yes.
Yeah. Ain’t much to speak of ‘cept somethimg from years ago..
Yeah but my results were boring
yes real name: plenty
username: quite a lot
Dude. Every blog I’ve read today posted about this. And I have googled myself, durnnit.
yes..yes i have.
i just did and my flickr account was the first, other than that the only other thing that came up that related to me was an award my brother won…
Yes, on a rotating schedule.
yes. i read an article that universities sometimes google prospective students, so I do not want embarrassing entries showing up on the net =]
yeah. . . found a famous *ahem* exotic dancer shares my name. . .
Yes. Several times. My real name is invisible, my aliases don’t have bad results. I’m happy.
no but I have googled other peoples’
Yes, I have.
I admit to googling myself. Apparently there is a lady who created this chocolate/candy shoppe in Anderson, Indiana in the 1940s who has my name. That’s interesting, in my opinion.
Yeah, it leads right to me xanga.
Right under it?
My job.
Precedents will be set in 2008 I am sure.
yeap, did that before and did it again
nope, so what does mine mean Dan?
Yeah. I was surprised that I found myself.
haha yeah but I never get anything interesting.
