Important City
I was reading an article about a study that determined that London was the world’s leading city when it comes to “economic performance and cultural significance.” Here is the link: Link
What would you consider your country’s most significant city?

Chicago :]
Cultural significance? Probably either LA or NY city.
I love New York
But I may be biased.
But London is awesome too!
new york, by far
New York, no question
And I don’t say that only because I live here, albeit that does play a big role in it’s cultural significance. Kidding. Not really.
Maybe you should ask for “your state’s most significant city?” At least the answers would be more varied then.
Boston or NYC
and I love the Christmas-y layout
merry early Christmas!
I’d say that New York is most important financially for the U.S. Chicago is very important, too, but Chi-town doesn’t have the port thing going on beyond Lake Michigan. I don’t think that L.A. is as important as it used to be, altlhough L.A. is a major tie to Japan. Boston is still fairly important, too.
NYC, obviously.
I’m Jewish and Italian. The fuck did you expect me to answer?
Using that criteria, New York City, although I’m not a fan of the place.
ryc: Hell, it’s full of dagos (and I’m one of ‘em!) but that’s no reason not to enjoy how beautiful and old it is.
If it weren’t for all the corrupt politicians, I’d say Washington DC, solely on the basis of the historical monuments and documents.
Err I don’t think any city in this nation is significant on that magnitude. Maybe if I was given some examples of accomplishments from the cities then I could decide.
NYC, even if I’m not a huge fan of the city.
(Though I have to admit it was pretty crazy awesome to visit.)
I’d say New York. I’ve never been there, but there does seem to be some global implication that New York is in fact “the world capital”. London (where I have been) would come second and then Paris.
NYC, unfortunately.
Toronto, because everyone thinks that’s the capital of Canada anyways.
Well, I’d say both NYC and LA have earned the title, in different ways. Combine them and they are a force to be reckoned with. Both have economic, cultural, etc. advantages. I love L.A. and have never been to NYC, but I can see how NYC has a few things different than LA. hm, I’ll shut up now.
Probably Toronto, but my heart is in Montreal.
Boston, because that is where I am, people. And THAT is why Boston rocks.
The obvious answer for me is D.C. That’s where the movers & shakers of the world do their little tango. Though, it seems a bit of a cop-out answer.
My other choice would be NY City for its cultural and economical significance. I would pick L.A., but I’ve seen it up close and it could be prettier. =)
Years ago New York was America’s city. Then it was Chicago, then Los Angeles. Today the city that best symbolizes America’s character is Las Vegas.
Or Orlando.
NYC
This is one of your most retarded questuins ever,
goddamned one-handed typing.
Luckenbach, TX.
I would think New York, but then again I’ve never been to New York. But I love Chicago – its diversity, its economic dynamics, its culture, its history…
Seattle, the gateway city for Alaska.
i am so surpised nobody said chicago
sure money wise NYC but chicago had so much culture to it with food and people and just a way of life i guess
but whatever
Even tho I’d love for it to be Chicago, I have to give it to NYC.
As much as I’d really like to say “Chicago” I’m going to have to cave and go with New York
New York City is the most important city in the world because of the mix of cultures and subcultures–there is no more culturally diverse place, anywhere.

gina
Columbus, Ohio because I live in it. Mhm.
New York City, because it is the closest to London.
I will be in London in five days.
NYC…of course!! If you can’t make there then you can make anywhere!!
LA or NYC definitely are up there, in fact, they’re a couple capitals of the world, really.

New York City, would be my unbiased answer. No, really.
The Global City entry in Wikipedia:
“An attempt to define and categorise world cities was made in 1999 by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network (GaWC), based primarily at Loughborough University in Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. The roster was outlined in the GaWC Research Bulletin 5[4] and ranked cities based on provision of “advanced producer services” such as accountancy, advertising, finance and law, by international corporations. The GaWC inventory identifies three levels of world cities and several sub-ranks.
Note that this roster generally denotes cities in which there are offices of certain multinational companies providing financial and consulting services rather than other cultural, political, and economic centres. There is a schematic map of GaWC cities at their website.[5]
Alpha world cities / full service world cities[6]

12 points: London,New York City, Paris, Tokyo

10 points: Chicago, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Milan, Singapore “
Washington DC – Northern Virginia area – that’s where everything’s happening that makes the rest of the world go round. At least it seemed like that when we were living there.
Oh, boy do I miss LONDON and I agree it is the center of the world. We lived there for 10 wonderful years! NYC for America though.
I have no idea.
Berlin
NEW YORK CITY
I have no idea. LA, Seattle and San Francisco definitely dominate the Pacific Coast scene, politically and culturally. Chicago is the Midwestern big city. And obviously New York and Boston are the big ones in the East. Though my favorite city of all time is New Orleans. Sho nuf.

Toronto!
I hope you have a fantastic Christmas Dan!!
*HUGS*
NYC, I guess.
NYC. Probably.
Even though I hate New York and I’ve never even been there.
New York City.
boston!!! duhhh.
(but actually New York. i just love Boston.)
I’m probably the first to say this… KUALA LUMPUR, of course.
The rest of your commenters are Americans, Dan.
Kinda dumb question… No offense.
Los Angeles or New York…
NYC of course. the city i have grown up in and loved..very biased decision..
I’d have to go with Chicago!
Definately my town, :Miami. ; )
New York
LA & NYC.
NYC and LA.
I guess I’d have to say NYC… maybe Boston. I’m not really sure on that one.
Wilmington, Delaware, definitely. Everyone goes to Delaware. XD
maybe you should get more pacific, since i think were all mostly from the states. itd be interesting to see which cities in each state are significant.
I don’t look at any city as more significant than another.
I’m going to say DC.
Logic dictates NYC, but pride says Boston.
new york.
> ….you got a lot of time to think on these questions, don’t you? ;-} I’d have to say Philadelphia, for what it means on the patriotic, go USA, etc…. Without that start and those people there and some other states, we wouldn’t have a few things we take for granted….
Peace
New York City is the undisputed culture and economic capital of the United States. I’ve been to Boston and New York. New York is a much grander city. Culturally, one of its boroughs, Queens, is the most diverse county in the United States. The whole city is a patchwork of ethnic communities. Economically, NYSE, enough said.
Egh
New York?
