  • Hunting and Presidential Politics

Mike Huckabee went hunting in Iowa and we have some great photos of the event.

This photo below has Mike Huckabee holding a pheasant he shot.

Standing next to Mike Huckabee is his trusty dog.

Does it make you want to vote for Mike Huckabee now that you know he is a great hunter?

  • No…that has nothing to do with being a president…unless you’re Bill Clinton, then its more like chasin tail.

  • and that’s a pretty lousy pheasant

  • That has nothing to do with being president.

    Maybe for PETA people. lol

  • My voting for him has nothing to do with his recreational interests.

  • Nah… My Pop goes hunting in Iowa all of the time… I’d vote for him for President.

  • I am ineligble to vote,

However if I was eligble to vote.  I will need to know more other than this,  about the people who are running for prestidential before voting.

  • I’ll vote for the dog.

  • Heck yes! I just love me a president that can shoot something

  • the reason I like Mike Huckabee is because he’s not all suit and tie all the time. He’s a “real” american and he speaks about the things real americans care about in the debates.

Him hunting just proves to me that he is not going to drown himself in polls, but also enjoy his life

and he is a real man’s man.

  • If anything it does exactly the OPPOSITE.

    how revolting. . .

  • Well, if he accidentally shoots his trusty dog in the face, and then his trusty dog goes on tv to apologize to him, then we will know that he would make a better Vice President.

  • That’s when Hucky was quite larger in size!  I’m impressed that he was able to get his weight down!  He looks so well now.

I like that he has a dog.  Someone once told me that the way a guy treats a dog is the way he’ll treat the people closest to him.  I’m not sure if that’s true………

Oh yeah, to answer your question, no.  Being a good hunter does not make him a better presidential candidate. If he cooked up that pheasant and gave me a bite or two…he would have a new best friend with me, but that STILL would not make him a better presidential candidate.

Yet, I do think he is a good candidate!

  • In his case i doubt it has anything at all to do with his campaign. He is well known as a hunter and gun rights guy. He has no need to play to that. He has that vote already, his only competition among guys that have a chance to win is Thomson. He is doing this for fun.

I look up records so nothing any of them does has any effect on me. I know what they have already done in the past therefore i know what they will do in the future. What they say, or the shows they put on, is so irrelevant, if you are at all well informed

  • Well I gave Brent “Cabela’s Big Game Hunter for PS2″ for Christmas and my favorite nintendo game is “Duck Hunt”. So it makes me feel pretty darn good!

  • Nothing wrong with hunting, or with defending yourself and others with a weapon. The problem with Huckabee isn’t here. Huckabee’s problem is thinking the federal government is the right tool for solving every problem. Yep, classic big-big-big-government “conservative.”

“There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.” —Noah Webster

  • Hillary and Mike have different agendas, but they both think the right tool to accomplish their goals is the federal government.

I won’t vote for anybody, even people whose goals I agree with, if they think the way to reach those goals is to move toward a fascist state.

  • It’s not that different from “I’ll vote for that candidate because he/she is an Evangelical/Black/a Woman etc.”

  • The reason I won’t be voting for Mike Huckabee has nothing to do with whether or not he hunts.

  • “fascist state”

Not a little extreme at all

  • Makes me want to vote for him less.
Which I thought was really hard to do.

  • ^^
Sorry but there is nothing less than zero in the real world. So in other words this has zero effect on you.

  • Captain jag
That is a very cute profile picture

  • No, but I like the cute little orange hoodie.

  • Dan, I’m a little concerned.  I don’t really want to vote for ANYONE…

  • …Although I must say that at least he shot a bird instead of his hunter-buddies…

  • LOL @ Emjay1′s comment…

To answer your question, whether or not he’s a good hunter has no effect on whether or not I will vote for him…

  • He is apealing to the gun lobby. Mitt Romney tried to say he was “an avid hunter” and it was later found he didn’t hunt. When pressed he claimed to shoot “rabbits and varments”…..which is not hunting, its killing.

So since Romney got caught in an obvious lie by democrat fact checkers, I guess Huckabee decided carpe diem!

The moral of the story is……if you say you’re a hunter to the gun lobby, you better make darn sure that at some time in your life you purchased a hunting license before you open your big mouth.

  • I wouldn’t vote for him if my life depended on it.

  • That dog, on the other hand…now THERE’S a suitable leader.

  • I am not sure who I will be voting for, but I can vehemently say that it WILL NOT be this man, and that has nothing to do with his hunting ability one way or the other.

  • No, but because he is a great hunter and he hunted in my STATE, then sure, i will vote for him. LOL! J/K!

  • The fact he likes to hunt has nothing to do with whether he will be a good president or not.

  • Since I wasn’t going to caucus for him anyway it doesn’t change my mind. He is who he is I agree with his policy positions on poverty, hunger and education but many of his other positions are too far to the right in terms of immigration, and many other issues.

  • What an incredibly in-depth question!!  Do YOU think  s photo of M.H. should “really” sway anyone’s opinion?  Yikes!

  • You should totally photoshop yourself into those pictures.

And seeing him hunt pigeon doesn’t really boost him in my book…

  • That’s a lame pheasant

  • If he’s a skilled hunter it has everything to do with being a president… if he can kill an animal imagine what he’d do if you dropped him into the Middle East? You can send him into a country and he’ll single handedly take out all the enemies! He’s probably a ruthless killing machine. If I was American he’d have my vote.

  • Not hunting, but if he was fishing…thats another story!  I don’t care for hunting, fishin’s the best game sport hands down. Actually neither would sway my vote, but it is good to see a president or someone who is running for president as a real person doing normal activities. We get SOOO caught up in thinking certain people are simply UNTOUCHABLE or sometimes even  above everyone else. Fact is, we are all the same….HUMAN ! I like seeing someone who is real, now John Kerry hunting, that was a hoot. That was fake as fake could be. I plan on voting for Huckabee, but things could change. I like Fred Thompson too. I’ve said from the beginning that a Thompson/Huckabee ticket would win for Republicans with no problem. There aren’t 2 democrats trustworthy enough to get more than the 30% that vote Democrat no matter WHO is running. I’d vote for a Democrat if they supported the things I believe in, haven’t seen that in quite some time.

  • I know all the reasons behind this “hunting thing”, but I still find it curious why they drag the photographers along?  Are they paid?  Are they out for the next big hunting story ala Cheney?  The NRA is pleased (which is fine by me), but I just wonder who benefits from all of this?  Who is pocketing cash for the pictures?

  • of course, do you think he will hunt down and kill my ex sister in law for me?

  • uhh…are you serious???

  • I am so sick of presidential politics that I am not voting this time.

  • ryc:  it’s the glass… and thanks (it took me 600 photos for the 9 I have displayed… the cool thing about that camera is 6.5 frames per second and the 8GB card holds a bunch of photos…)

  • No…it makes me want to buy him a decent outfit.

  • I knew he was into hunting when I decided to support Duncan Hunter instead.  Unfortunately, I’m not old enough to vote anyhow.  So vote for Duncan Hunter.

*Gasp* I just expressly advocated and now have the appearance of corruption.  Sue me, McCain!

  • i think it’s very difficult for people to read  your sarcasm

  • Well, it helps more that I now know he when he goes hunting he actually hits the pheasant. Not the friend.

Oh, who am I kidding. If I could vote, I would never vote for Huckabee, no matter how many friends he didn’t shoot.

  • my vote won’t depend on weather or not he hunts………

  • Hunting is not a bad thing. The deer population at least MUST be controlled.

Should i care or not care about a candidate because they are willing to kill the meat they eat?

If forced, I would kill the meat I eat as well.

Peta can get in line to blow me.

    Naked.

  • A pheasent? that’s it? maybe if he wrestled and killed a grizzly with his bear hands, then sure.

then again, I can’t vote, so what can I do?

  • No. Of course not!  But if we have a food shortage it is nice to know the Prez can find round up some squirrel for us hungry citizens!!

  • no because big deal you can shoot some poor defenseless animal good job but can you really run the country? my 12 year old brother can shoot  a pheasant that doesn’t make him qualified to run the country…

but I have to wonder if he actually shot it or if this was some kind of boxed hunt…

  • No. I know tons of people who can hunt well who’d suck at being president.

  • No, that would be stupid wouldn’t it. Hope he’s gonna eat that pheasant.

  • Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter…

  • Good to see his hunting partner is still standing too. Cheney can’t say as much.

  • He looks like he is waiting for someone to hand him the bird and take his pic. Photo-ops to pander for votes does nothing for me. Unless of course the bird is Al-Qaeda’s second in command.

  • Nope.  Still don’t want him to be president.

  • I couldn’t care less, but that is one damn adorable dog.
Though, Bush has one too…having a dog won’t make me like either of them.

  • Well we know Dick Cheyney hunts

  • No, now he just looks silly.

  • He isn’t afraid of guns… That helps…. I think that most politicians are too afraid of guns.

  • omg, he’s evil ! =(

  • Nothing will make me vote for Huckabee.

  • Not that he was a serious contender, but scratch that one off the list.  Just another redneck.

  • Just because he is a hunter doesn’t sway me either way. I will tell you this he won’t be getting my vote. He is a BIG government tax & spend blowhard. HUGS

  • makes zero difference. i will support (b/c i can’t yet vote) whoever i believe is the most competent president with no regards to party affiliations or past activities. all i can guarantee is that hillary will NEVER get my vote.

  • Wow, it took 11 posts before someone made a stupid, predictable joke about shooting someone you went hunting with.

I don’t care if he goes hunting or not.

  • no

  • Don’t really care.

  • what?  No shooting of a lawyer?  :)   I love lawyer jokes even when I want to be one when I grow up at age 50.  Doesn’t impact me, but I’m glad he is pro gun rights.

  • Meh, I’m still not sure if I’m even going to vote, it’s been along time since I last did.

  • I hope he is a better shot than VP Dick Cheney.

  • Dude yeah. THat rocks. Not a decider but it certainly makes me like the guy.

  • Clearly this is a photo-op designed to appeal to hunters (read: NRA) and ‘he-men’ of the state of Iowa.  He could hunt anywhere else, but with the Iowa caucus looming, what an opportunity to get his picture taken totin’ a gun with ol’ Roy panting by his feet.

No, it wouldn’t effect my vote.  I’m smarter than that.

  • Maybe if he had caught something better than a pheasant..

  • He got his bird !
Must be a straight shooter !
