Benazir Bhutto
On 9/11, we just wanted people to mourn with us.
I know we care about radicals taking over Pakistan.
I know we care about whether nuclear weapons get in the hands of the wrong people.
But Pakistan just needs us to mourn with them.
And to forget about how it impacts us.
Because it isn’t all about us.

1st??
i like the way you use your words and pictures.
awesome.
alright….ive never been 1st commenter before.
and i think i agree with what you’re saying.
9/11=The U.S. expected the world to mourn with us.
Pakistani Assasination=i think the U.S. should mourn with Pakistan.
its so tragic..
I think that we do need to mourn with them. It’s a big deal, and we need to show them the kindness and support that they deserve.
well said
Hell, after 9/11 I just didn’t want anyone to shoot down our bombers as we dropped every bomb in our inventory on Afghanistan.
Very touching tribute. Thanks. I agree 100%
I don’t know what happened, yet, but I think that we should mourn with them.
Set a precedent.
I COMPLETELY agree.
Thanks for writing this, Dan. And for being open-minded, unlike a lot of others.
*moment of silence* That’s all I can give..
Thank you.
heck if we had followed my plan we wouldn’t have any need for allies only for inept air forces and surface to air missile batteries. It also probably would have saved a number of lives both American and middle eastern.
I cried when I heard the news. This is so, so terrible.
One of the saddest moments in the history of man!
I mourn Bhutto. X_X
R.I.P dear friend of freedom.
This just sucks.
So sad. My prayers go out to everyone.
Yes, the US should mourn with Pakistan.
You really stated this so well. And I completely agree. Thanks for reminding us of this.
Thank you so much.
Well said.
Very well said.
I don’t really have any words. Thank you for posting this.
I agree. I like the new look of your site, BTW.
Nicely said. Hubby and I were just discussing what a blow this was to the people of Pakistan.
bhutto is dead…riots in the streets…chaos in pakistan…
How poetic. Seriously can we bomb the whole middle east? Just H-Bomb it and destroy it. Possibly control the oil industry? Imperialization?
i agree it makes me so sad when people fight espically in times of war
cause this is the earth God gave us and why to we bicker and argue on things like bombs and weapons of mass destrustion
when people only miles away havent eaten in days
well said….the pictures just bring it all that much closer too…
Somehow I don’t think America as a whole is capable of having those human emotions for other people.
If only…
I totally agree.
My father brought this up tonight, and all he cared about what how it impacted the stock market.
Personally, I’ve only briefly read an article or two on her and feel like this is a terrible loss… I can’t even begin to imagine how the Pakistanis must feel.
Is this what made you moody today?
But yes indeed.
Well said. I pray God’s peace will come on them.
It’s horrible. I really feel for them
She wasn’t that amazing. I’m very sad for her death and all but she was far from a saint you know.
Well Said! Thank you for reminding us!
I am very sorry for her death, and the loss to her family and her country.
The “PRESIDENT” (read: prime minister) of their world… has been assassinated… the world should have this on blast on every news station… every radio station… rip to one of a kind… world great…
Very well said, Dan. Very well said.
When I saw the grief of the Pakistanis, the full realisation of the hope and future that they have placed on the shoulders of Bhutto becomes so evident. I cried.
As everyone has already mentioned, nicely said. We forget about other people too often.
I agree…plus the way in which you posted the pictures and words…a wonderful way to pay tribute to such a peaceful person that affected so many others.
I agree with you 100%. It is our turn to mourn with another nation, and to give our support. You certainly have a way with words. Thankyou.
ryc: you sing in a high falsetto that’s out of your natural range? hee hee
Thanks, Dan! That’s the best post you ever did!
Very well said.
Thats very true. Xanga moment of silence maybe??
thank you for that
good point, dan. very good point.
I agree.
Thanks, Dan. I apprecitate this entry very much. It was a hard day yesterday and today. I worry that her life will be quickly passed over and on to the next thing. I hope people realize the impact this woman had on and for her people.
Odd.
hear,hear!
I mourn with people of Pakistan. I’m shocked upon learning the news..
It’s a tragedy when ANYONE is murdered. Yes we should mourn for their loss and for the families loss. Not caring about a certain nation because of a radical group is ridiculous. The same thing goes for all racial problems. Just because a few whites commit terrible things to blacks, or a few blacks commit terrible things against whites, or you pick the racial problem in your area, it doesn’t mean we should hate the WHOLE race. Terrible acts are commited by individuals, not a whole race. Deal with the individual and you take care of the problem.
I couldn’t agree more.
aww dan… that’s really considerate of you.
Damn straight.
by mourning with them arent we acknowledging the impact on us? i mean, in the sense that what affects them affects others as well. i didnt know anyone who died in 9/11 so that part didnt affect me, im not particularly patriotic, so that didnt affect me either. but i knew people who lost loved ones and such, and that did. i suppose it would be the same concept in this case.
Try to praise the mutilated world
I agree..churches should pray about this
Beautiful tribute.
Try telling this to the war obsessed bastards that run our country. I would love to see their reaction.
Well said. We can be afraid of terrorists any time.
loveandpolitics: Shut up you jackass, now is not the time for asshole opinions. She’s DEAD asshole.
What an ignorant American thing to say. >>
Thank God! I’ve been waiting for someone to say that for so long!!!!!!! We were just debating over stuff like this last night. I was saying that it was just terrorists we were against not the people. They said we shouldn’t be rebuilding in the middle east.
RIP
This was truly a terrible thing… I like how you discussed it.
it totally sucks.
i hope that somehow, someway good can come from this.
What a tragedy. This was an educated Muslim woman who just wanted to help her country. What a sad world we live in.
There is a lot of scary things that happen all over the world. Is the mideast – Pakistan, Afganistan, Iran, Iraq – a powder keg ready to explode?
I feel sad for the people of Pakistan, and especially the Bhutto family and her supporters who had so much hope in her, as well as the families of others killed in the attack and the riots. It is really ashame. So much anger in the world.
Well-written. Thank you.
This was a very good, simple way to make a very good point. Thank you. It’s true.
that was beautiful. i think you’re pretty great.
Very nicely put, Dan.
OMG, your a bloggin poet! truly moving. YES. It is NEVER just about me, or us.
Never JUST anything. we ARE connected, and enriched when we act within this kind of love.
I was asked to comment on this intellectual blog. Incredible fodder for me. powerful. When you look for her stand on issues, gets very murky. Hope when I die, it will be clear. Yet, she was hope. She is a mom, a wife. etc. They need our mourning, yes.
Mourn with those who mourn….it’s what we’re supposed to do. Thanks for the reminder.
I agree. But just one question, what are they rioting about? The government or Al-Queda?
Whoever was close enough to shoot the pics, probably using a hidden camera, ignored the plight of those mourning the death of Bhutto, and disrespected their wishes, to keep the cameras out of there. Who that was may have shot her in the head. …Love, Sande
Thanks for this. Well put.
Very good post. I totally agree.
It was just a month or 2 ago that I read an article about her in a magazine (Glamour, maybe?) where they talked about how she represented a great hope for Pakistan’s women. It is so sad that she’s gone, especially b/c of what this means for their country.
This is incredibly sad….she symbolized so much hope for Pakistan and the Middle East…we are with you Pakistan…be strong.
>Excellent prose and pictures, bravo! And by-the-by, I would agree with the popular view that she was maybe the only real look at democratic gov’t they’ll likely see for a while. Still, keep in mind that corruption and banditry is a norm for many countries in that reqion. Her father was a harsh man who stopped cooperating with Uncle Sam, and was relieved from his gov’t by a ‘fair’ election at the time. The MU is dancing a fine line here, and you’ll note his people have turned down any ‘help’ from us to investigate the assassination attempt. Another failure to communicate, ya’ think?
An’ yeah, they deserve the time and respect to mourn….
Peace
yes
Well said…. I totally agree ! I wish them the best !
